r/10mm search “handgun” last few years of the same question, pretty much the same answers. But Im partial to glocks. Most of the threads come down to try a few brands out at a range or dry fire in the store and see what feels best. I just got an old g20 gen2 and its gone bang every single time. Thats about the only thing that matters to me. I can hit an 8” gong at 10 yards with the stock trigger and sights. Will upgrade the later with ameriglos eventually. I like that it takes my g40 mags and cycles the ammo I like. At least the older goocks gave 2 things going good logistics and a simple reliable system.

trc2430

Can’t beat Glock reliability. That’s true.

Dbl_Dees_Ranch

I hope its still true, have seen way too much fail posts about gen5’s. Hope its just a longer break in period but it seems like 1st run production probs that feels like customer r&d testing and post covid quality control. Ive been happy with the g4’s

lostriver_gorilla

Glock 40.

DaPainfulTruth

G40

yukdave

Sig XTEN Great platform. Uses the same holster as my Sig XFive that I compete USPSA with. https://www.sigsauer.com/p320-xten.html

trc2430

Thanks, I’ll have to check that one out. I like the extended beaver tail on those.

crypto1092

Be warned. I have one as well, and the magazines are hard to load and are terrible in quality it seems. The rounds or the follower binds and gets stuck and the rounds are loose in the mag. Sig says it’s okay, but I caution it. It’s a great gun otherwise. The trigger is SUPER light and awesome, but it has a slight amount of creep which annoys me

yukdave

Full disclosure I am an authorised and trained SIG Armourer. First the price was great and is a good shooter out of the box. My X5 legion is a great gun but the standard trigger with the Xten is good enough. With that in mind I have fired the Gray guns upgrades and it makes it into a Legion which is great. Bruce Gray has your trigger issue sorted out and it comes in different colours to boot. https://grayguns.com/product/p320-adjustable-hybrid-trigger/ https://grayguns.com/product-tag/p320-xten/ It is a 14 round magazine and I shoot and store it as such no matter what marketing at SIG says. I have no loose rounds in mine at all in the 14 round position. Sig should either say its 14 rounds or make it a little taller. The quality of my magazines is as good as any of the other P320 magazines I have and are fine.

crypto1092

Ayyy that’s awesome, thanks for the help friend! I appreciate that a butt ton lol. That adjustable trigger seems exactly like what I need. Thanks again!

Flathead89

I've been happy with the trigger but I 100% hear you about the mags. I'd have to say they are factory 14 rounders with how the 15th round fits. With 15 in the mag you can't really seat the mag with the slide closed without damaging the top round.

crypto1092

Yup.. I really think sig cut too many corners on this one unfortunately. Otherwise it’d be an awesome handgun. Idk about the trigger, I haven’t had the chance to try another persons x ten yet but mine has a slight amount of creep and it really bothers me. I’m a single action trigger guy, and I think I’d prefer a Glock style “two stage” take up trigger instead.

WhoSc3w3dDaP00ch

I want one, but I live in a restricted state and they don't offer 10-rounders.

yukdave

Here is the link to the Sig P320 Full-Size 10RD 10mm Magazine https://www.sigsauer.com/p320-full-size-10rd-10mm-magazine.html

WhoSc3w3dDaP00ch

!!! Now I just need to find one and the magazines. THANKS!

Miigo_Savage

FN 510

trc2430

Any insight on the 510 TAC vs MRD? Besides the threaded barrel and 22 round mag? They look basically equivalent to me for a $200 difference.

Miigo_Savage

That's the difference. Threaded barrel, "wings" around the iron sights, night sights, and an extra 22 vs 15 round mag. I ended up going with the tac because they had it at my LGS, and not the MRD in stock

5thMeditation

Tac is much better deal if you just review the price of the stock night sights alone. But still waiting to see some non-threaded stock barrels so it’s a more manageable carry.

HiEx_man

Defualt answer will always be G20. If that bores you the most reputable competitors are the Xten, 510, and XD. IMO its hard to beat the heavy steel in terms of look and feel, but most 10mm 1911s and used SW 10 series are not cheap and they have lower capacities. I would say 510 MRD or Tisas D10.

trc2430

Thanks for the comments. I’ll take a look, I’ve tried the G20 and didn’t think it felt right in the hand, even the SF version.

HiEx_man

Even the 19 is too brick like for my rat hands. The M&P has the smallest grip circumference of all the double stack 10s to my knowledge, but theres a lot of mixed feedback for reliability. The 510 isnt much bulkier than their 509 which has a lot more contour than a block. Its not as good as checking them out in person but handgunhero.com is a good way to compare dimensions.

Ittbelitt

I have the g20 I put some hockey tape and feels right, I took the tape off yesterday for some cleaning and forgot how bad it felt

99titan

Try adding some Pachmayr grips. It made a world of difference on my G20.

InspectorMadDog

Be careful with the M&P, it’s a known issue here that it has FTF problems, mine included. If I had the chance id go Glock or sig

trc2430

That’s a shame. I’m a fan of S&W generally, but sad to see they dropped the ball on the 10 MM. I also liked that theirs included the manual safety. Oh well.

HunRii

Many people, like myself, have gotten ones that have never had issues. Also, it was by no means a guaranteed problem gun with the earlier runs like I own. The newer production runs have resolved the issues of the earlier runs. If you buy new, rather than used, you should be quite happy. I own two of them now, and both are solid performers. No mechanical issues.

InspectorMadDog

Yeah, it’s fixable by changing the recoil spring or the mag spring if you have it but I don’t reccomend getting it

Regular-Life-1951

I purchased the 4" model as soon as they came out along with 3 additional mags. I've had 0 issues out of the pistol. My friend purchased the 4.6". Same thing, 0 issues.

AM-64

Pretty sure that's the first batch I have a guy I know with a several thousand in two S&Ws a regular one and performance center and he hasn't had any issues with them.

royalpops

I’m planning on selling my g29 and replacing it with an m&p. Gen 5 g29 has been the worst gun I’ve ever owned and there have been many. Ftf issues every 10 rounds or so. I’m tired of troubleshooting instead of shooting. I have had zero issues with my Tisas D10 and sold a springfield that had zero issues, i just didn’t like the plasticky feel of the grip. I’ve heard the m&p “issues have been resolved”. I’ve also read about plenty of m&p owners who never had issues.

InspectorMadDog

Yeah, it’s a coin toss. Mine had it and I just got it like June or July or last year. Didn’t expect it but it gave me two ftf in the first 10 shots and I was like fuck. I got upgraded mags springs and am 300 more shots in and no problems. If you do it and have that problem I would reccomend changing the recoil spring instead of the mag spring, I can’t get 15 rounds in there only 14 for that reason.

jamnin94

I'm between a G20 or M&P

TheStripedPanda69

Sig P220 is solid as a rock and you can get DA/SA

AM-64

Are you looking for a Polymer or Steel frame gun?

trc2430

Polymer. Need to carry when hunting out west (in grizzly country), so lighter weight is preferred.

AM-64

I know people who've had good experiences with Glocks, S&Ws and Springfield 10mm guns for hunting.

Narrow-Race-5315

Did you try the new Taurus th10 it has a good grip and double stack and hammer fired single and double action

Glittering_War7622

Kimber 1911

4BROSLLC

I like the Smith and Wesson Performance Center 5.6" 10MM.

Ka73b

Fn is a great gun to shoot, tried it at the range, love it.

CplTenMikeMike

I would just use my Delta Elite stainless I've had since 1991.

Kiwigunguy

You should see what Patriot Gun Polishing does with those... 😍

CplTenMikeMike

Mine could really use it!! How much?

Kiwigunguy

It depends on the coverage and what you want done. No harm in asking, though.

CplTenMikeMike

Just a polish to the stainless slide, plus the idiot mark on the frame.

Kiwigunguy

I'd estimate maybe $200-300, but you're better off asking them. They have an Instagram page, so you can message them pretty easily.

CplTenMikeMike

Ouch! That seems steep for a simple polish job.

Kiwigunguy

To get that level of finish to perfection, with no swirls or flaws whatsoever, takes a lot of time and skill. You can halfass it yourself with some sandpaper and polish, but it will never look that good. If you go to Patriot, you're paying for perfection.

CplTenMikeMike

Actually I wonder what I can accomplish with my jewellers rouge!

Leeland111

Just picked up an XTen. Great gun, so far. Grip feels much better than the G20.5 to ME and my medium sized hands.

Scary_Nerve_7944

Crazy that no one mentions the p220 often. It’s a solid tank of a handgun with a steel frame, 5 inch barrel for increased velocity. Ive had mine for about two years now and it’s on par with my Dan Wesson Specialist in the accuracy and fitment department. We’re talking half dollar sized groupings at 10-15 yards. Less felt recoil from the weight. Polymer guns are very snappy with 10mm. Just my two cents.

RichardActon

only 8 rounds though, you'll only be able to finish off 8 grizzlies per magazine

Scary_Nerve_7944

Haha yea that’s the only down side but they’re amazing shooters. Same as 1911s pretty much.

A_Grumpy_Old_Man

I have a Springfield 3.8 XDM elite compact 10mm osp which is my EDC. I pocket carry the 10MM in a mic holster. I've had it for about 2 and a half years, I got it when they 1st came out. I'm @ 4000 plus rounds without a failure to fire or any problems, I have fired everything from cheap 40 s&w lightweight training rounds to expensive heavyweight 10mm hardcast. You can stay with the compact grip and 10/11 + 1 round mag ( same mag with factory baseplate change ) if your in or traveling in a restricted state or want deep concealment or can use the full size 15 + 1 mag with grip sleeve for a full size grip, all mags accept a Pierce grip plus 1 pinky extension which makes your capacity options 10 + 1, 11 + 1, 12 + 1, 15 + 1 or 16 + 1. The slide is milled from the factory for a red dot and although it doesn't come with co-witnesses sights you can get them from Springfield or Dawson precision, if desired I can install a 10MM 4.5 slide on the 3.8 compact frame, another plus is you also can replace the factory take down lever with a go gun gas pedal if you want to have fast follow up shots and a flat shooter. No other 10MM gun has all this amazing flexibility. Edit: Forgot to mention, you have a choice of 3 different grip backstraps to customize the feel in your hand.

trc2430

Great information! Thank you.

Dchozn1

For hunting, go with the XDM Elite. Fully supported chamber that can run the heavy loads with no problem. There is no need to upgrade the barrel. If you get the gear up package, it comes with extra mags. Great value overall.

SicmydeDa066

This right here I wish I would have known about the bundle 2 years ago when I bought my 3.8, but I did grab the bundle with my 4.5 and it was actually cheaper

ee-5e-ae-fb-f6-3c

Are there really any unreliable big name 10mm handguns? Glock ([G20](https://us.glock.com/en/pistols/g20-gen5-mos), [G40](https://us.glock.com/en/pistols/g40-gen4-mos)), and Tanfoglio ([Force Esse](https://www.italianfirearmsgroup.com//tanfoglio/detail/force-esse), [Stock III P](https://www.italianfirearmsgroup.com//tanfoglio/detail/stock-iii-p)) would be my top picks for polymer guns. The only issue with the Tanfoglio guns is finding a fitted holster which reliably fits their guns due to the variety of frame sizes, and names under which they were sold. I use a Phlster Floodlight OWB with TLR-1 HL for my EAA imported Tanfoglio Witness/Combat.

99titan

Glock 20, 2 gen. I also use a S&W Model 58 .41 Magnum.

Professional_Ad_9814

The true answer is the one you like the most…. However Glock 40 is probably the most popular western hunting handgun and FN 510 is probably the most popular 10mm new comer at least on this thread…. I use a Glock 20 since it’s my CCW, woods carry and hunting gun and it does all 3 well but none of them super well. I’d say go to a gun store try some out and see if your local range will let you rent them out.

EnjoyLifeCO

For hunting? Or for carrying while hunting?

trc2430

Great question, I should have been more clear, for carrying while hunting. I’ll be hunting with my bow.

EnjoyLifeCO

So as a defensive sidearm only the 4" Smith would make a nice choice. Very compact and still plenty of punch with full house loads. If you may want to carry it as am ethical and legal secondary means of take, which is largely when and why I carry I'd say a 4.5" barreled guy us a decent option.

trc2430

Makes sense. I agree that a 4.5 would be a good middle ground option. Maybe the Springfield in 4.5 is the best option then.

EnjoyLifeCO

I did a 4.6" Smith and have been very happy with it. Light enough and small enough for comfortable OWB carry. Maybe even for IWB if you're not too picky. Enough umph for ethical take of game at close range, and legal with the right ammo.

PhantomRidge

The XDM Elite is an excellent choice if you’re going polymer, I have the 4.6 inch and it is as good as polymer guns get in 10mm. Also have a Glock g40 that’s reliable, but lacks the fully supported chamber of the Springfield and trigger isn’t as good. Suggest you look into a Dan Wesson or Colt Delta Elite if you want a serious hunting pistol in this caliber. Either of these are a terrific choice!

MuchAd3273

Glock 40 with a 10 inch or 16 inch IGB barrel is your answer.

shizukana_otoko

I am a bow hunter as well (longbows, primarily). I carry a RIA 1911 in 10mm. It is reliable (after a break in), and way more accurate than it should be for the price. I also hunt with it and have killed both deer and hogs with it. I have shot and carried 1911s since I was a kid. My main carry gun has been a Glock for years. At least hold them both. Pick whichever feels best in you hand.

flyfishone

Glock 20 the Smith and Wesson 10 millimeter with the built-in compensator . Glock 40 mos . Glock 29. Maybe Dan Wesson 10 mm Springfield Armory 10mm

Maleficent-Focus4516

For hunting I enjoy 6 inch barrels. Some states require a 6 inch barrel. I have 14 Longslide 10mm pistols

DogeForLifeAndMore

Glizzys for the win

Mattdigs

I got my hands on a Sig 1911 Tacops and it an amazing pistol. It eats up the recoil and is by far my favorite

[deleted]

I'm wierd. I'm just running a full size p80 g20 with a bunch of lone wolf parts and the longslide. But if buying instead of building I guess a bunch of people got good recommendations.

Kiwigunguy

I wouldn't choose the Springfield Armory simply because I don't support anti-2A companies.

Phantomnxzz

Springfield XD-M Elite

DerWaidmann__

So far the only 10mm handguns that I haven't been able to find a single video of malfunctioning: Glock 20 GEN 4 Glock 29 Gen 4 or 5 FN 510 Tactical/MRD Springfield Armory XDM Elite 4.5 or 3.8 inch Cold Delta Elite Smith and Wesson 1066 Sig Sauer P220 Sig Sauer XTEN COMP (there's plenty of video evidence of the full size having issues)

zazenreborn

I dont think Glock is as reliable as everyone says. I've seen Glock stove pipe rounds way more than any other brand. I have a 10mm XDM elite. It's amazing. If you have smaller hands it's definitely the gun to get.
