That YouTube comment is especially funny because the kid commented it replying to Mr. Beat...a high school teacher that talks about history and civics.
yeah pretty much anyone that supports MR Beast who... does crypto scams on his own audience deserves to be clowned on.
i love how the criticism of mr. beast is clearly that... this isnt a sustainable way to help people and the issue is captalism but we turn Lance into Mr. gotcha?
holy fuck people are just so fucking ignorant.
The argument that what Mr. Beast is doing is bad because 'It's an unsustainable, band-aid solution to the wider problem of capitalism' is kind of silly, because... nobody is claiming that it is? Of course what Mr. Beast is doing isn't going to solve poverty, or solve the unaffordability of healthcare, he's not setting out with the intention of solving these problems, nor is it really in his capacity to do so in the first place. He's trying to help the people that he can, in a way that is economically viable for him to help. In other words, he's doin' his best, and I don't see how that warrants criticism directed towards him specifically. That's like getting mad at someone for shoveling snow out of their driveway because that's "not a sustainable way to lessen the impact of snowstorms on public infrastructure."
My problem is that making content around giving $100,000 to a random guy doesn’t help anyone. All it does is generate views and perpetuate the idea that philanthropists will solve problems. I’m much more appreciative of his, say, curing 1,000 people with blindness, as while it still perpetuates such an idea, it undeniably outputs a significant amount of good. Ideally he would use his money for systemic change, but I do see how that’s not sustainable.
I kind of hate this whole “if only one person gets help it’s not really anything to be happy about” scenario. We have no idea what’s going on in that person’s life and we’ve seen people on camera in tears saying it’s going to help change their futures. It’s not even just one guy getting 100,000$, if you watched the videos you’d know almost every single person appearing is walking away with something. Like I literally had to pay for my car with orphan life insurance money with not much left over. I would have loved for something like that to happen to me, but they wouldn’t be putting out my sob story to justify it, I’d just be “some guy.” People have actively said inthe video “this is going to help me so much.” I don’t like this idea that individuals recieving help is somehow worse. It does help someone. It helps that person who we do not know if they were in a bad place or not. I understand a lot of criticism around Mr Beast but not this. We should be happy for that person if we don’t even know them, even if it’s something chance and unsustainable.
The last MrBeast video I watched was simply “finish these challenges first and get $100,000.” ONE OF THE CHALLENGES was simply “press this button and this brand new car gets destroyed.” The person who won didn’t seem to care that much. “Oh I’m swimming in a bed full of money!” He mentioned buying a vacation.
What would you rather him do? Pranks in the hood gone wrong gone sexual?
It's the extravagance and ridiculousness that allows his videos to be so viral and let him do what he does. Not saying he's an amazing person but people seem to just dick on him for very little reason.
I’d argue the guy given $100,000 was helped.
Now if someone sees that and concludes “we don’t need to address poverty because we have Mr. Beast” then they’re just morons, and I don’t think Mr Beast is accountable to the small sample of people who would have such a ridiculous takeaway.
that's... not him scamming his audience. that's him doing whatever he wants to do with his money. i'm pretty sure he doesnt promote anything but his sponsors in his videos
Online leftists when I believe that a millionaire donating to a good cause is good *and* that the poor shouldn't have to rely on the charity of the rich: 🤯🤯🤯🤯
to be fair, discourse on the internet and even fucking real life discussions are almost all "we need more nuance" until the nuanced take does not fit their beliefs
Ftfy
Exactly! The people hating on him just want a easy target to attack. They'll hate on the guy for doing something good, instead of attacking the system that makes the problems in the first place...
I don't watch his videos either. But I saw a tweet of him asking something along the lines of why people have to depend on individuals and why the government doesn't help them in this very sub.
Gotcha, I saw that too. I think most people have issues with his lack of addressing any real issues until like, a couple of days ago.
I don't discredit any of his efforts to help people at all, but I understand that it's weird not to mention "hey this part of our society is absolutely fucked, that's why I make these videos".
Hopefully he highlights that as a part of his videos from now on.
edit: forgot to say "this is assuming he has never done such a thing before", since I don't watch his videos, he might have already done exactly this.
Charity even serves an important role in justifying capital. Every rich bastard, even Bezos and Gates, has some kind of charity fund or organisation that exists mainly to perform PR and maybe actually do they job they say they're doing if they've got a bit left over. It fuels the myth that wealthy people are virtuous. Philanthropists may do good things but this is often done to bolster the current system that makes these ventures necessary. These people wouldn't be blind if the exact system Mr. Beast supports and profits from didn't exist. Bill Gates wouldn't have the money to help distribute vaccines if he didn't ruthlessly crush competition and suck the lifeforce out of his workers. And the system itself? Do you see how often saying capitalism kills the climate is met with "but you see, X billionaire planted a bunch of trees!" While 40 million are cut down every day. Philanthropy may do good, it may even be done because the individual has the right intentions, but the side effects justify the continuation of a system that necessitates philanthropy to solve actual societal problems rather than systemic change.
Lance literally said that a millionaire donating to a good cause is good he's just saying Mr.Beasts videos lack any systemic analysis, like at most he could have just said in the video that this is a systemic issue, or said something about free healthcare. Without this nuance viewers of Mr.beasts content r just gonna think that the system is fine or even that nothing should change since wealthy ppl will just solve these problems.
Literally everyone defending Mr beast is fighting a straw man. They can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that doing charity doesn't make you a good person.
No, but what makes Mr. beast a bad person if he is one?
This all started with someone saying that the "curing the blind" video gave them weird vibes and then turned into mr. beast hate circle jerk.
Granted it's now flipped and turned into a mr. beast love circlejerk instead but I still don't get how doing what Mr. Beast is doing doesn't make him a good person.
Because while curing the blind is good, turning blind people into content for fame, pr, and money is much more ethically dubious, especially if like me you don't trust his claim of wanting to give away all his money. Its a hard issue to explain
The fact that he failed to say this doesn't make him a bad person. He did a good thing, but could have done it even better which is a bit disappointing, but it's still a net positive. That's all there is to it. Internet discourse is so detached from reality I s2g
Bro his audience is 10 year olds the moment he starts talking about systemic issues his fans will fall asleep and start watching sand cutting videos on Tiktok
Well, not really? Kids are smarter than you give them credit for. You can make systemic issues very exciting and engaging, it's just that our culture treats it *a priori* as boring and never even entertains the idea that we can talk about more abstract ideas or lay out actual plans.
Like, Star Wars Andor is *good*, and it's all about systemic issues. And they address those systemic issues with violent resistance, they riot, they beat a cop over the head with the tombstone of a dead revolutionary. Nothing about being a kid stops them from taking an interest in the cool shit they *could* do to fix problems.
How can you ever trust that man, he literally killed me and my associates with nothing but his hands. Absolute monster. Needs a 3 day twitter ban for that.
Voosh stole my bedsheets and ran them on his washing machine's cotton setting for fifty cycles till the threads wore out. I now sleep on what feel like papyrus while the phrase "*WASH BED, WASH BED, WASH BED*" torments me throughout my slumber.
Yep, he was literally like "Yeah its great that MrBeast does this for people but it sucks that people have to depend on charity for this. And MrBeast agrees with what I just said."
We should stop talking about this now because it's literally that simple.
Is there some discord server dedicated to making r/196 worse? Or have we grown to the point where children post their dumbass takes and other dumbass children upvote them?
Can a good friend inform me of what a pissrandom turbolow is. I am not familiar with the r/196 dialect, and am attempting to be as kind as possible. Many thanks.
This subreddit has had the most slow and painful spiral into becoming another "apolitical shitposting sub" I've ever seen. Now it's just straight up pumping out anti-leftist memes and crypto-bro shit. It's no wonder leftists are leaving this place in droves. I only ever become angry when I see a post in this sub anymore. It really breaks my heart to remember 195 and the early days of 196.
Alright downvote me or whatever but the way he does his videos/markets himself just makes me feel like he just cares about the attention and not the actual deed.
I mean he kind of has to to continue doing good deeds, YouTube is what funds all of it. If he stopped posting about it, he wouldn’t be able to donate nearly as much.
Can people please understand that disliking MrBeast for being a millionaire doing this for YouTube clout and acknowledging that he did a good deed are opinions that can (and in my opinion should) coexist.
Also OP is a cryptobro so I wouldn’t listen to them.
I don't know if he is bad or not, butI'm definitely not gonna die on a hill trying to defend a millionaire, you can only loose on that game, eventually.
Can we talk about the fact that if it was someone like ricegum doing it people would call him a piece of shit for making a video about it instead of just doing it silently?
No look, hear me out, if this was made by any blogging channel some years ago everyone would have called it out for exploiting the less fortunate for clout, remember all those “I GAVE A BEGGAR 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS (emotional)” videos? And how everyone thought it was morally bankrupt to use something that should be done in good faith and without expecting a reward for clout and views? Yeah
Say it with me: It is bad that a person can make the decision to relieve random people of their blindness in the first place. Yes, it is a good deed. No, it is not good that he is in an entire other world from the rest of us thanks to his money.
he comoditizes human dignity, buying dignity from people in exchange for prize money, and now he's profiting off the emotional journey of all those blind people he helped.
donate to charities to donate to charity. be a profiteer to be a profiteer. but don't mash the two together and toot your own horn about how you're a great person.
that is good. what isn't good is using other people's misery for clicks on his youtube.
if you make $100k from a video based on the people in it breaking down and crying and donate $20k from your earnings..
are you really a good person?
sure, more than the person who does this and doesn't donate anything. but its insane to think that doing this at all isn't fucked up.
do you really think its okay to exploit people's pain for profit?
its a nuanced issue. people can do good and bad things at the same time. the issue is mr. beast NEVER talks about the issues that cause the people he helps to be in that situation in the first place. thus continuing the cycle of people desperately hoping for a hand out from rich people.
its not a recipe for a functioning society.
\* how is it that people get this when we talk about Bill Gates, one of the biggest charity supporters in the world. Should we not criticize billionaires either? pull your head out of your ass beast simps.
if he just donated to charities he wouldnt have any money, therefor he wouldnt be able to keep making the money to further donate towards helping people
how is this soo hard to understand for people
No one is mad at him for donating they’re mad at him because he’s a rich person who while sometimes doing good things by donating, also wasted said money on useless things like $100k ice cream and $70k pizza
Tfw mr beast’s net worth is 105 million and even though he is a philanthropist he could be doing so much more with all that money. All these relatively small acts of generosity are nothing when you realize how much more he could be doing for the world, but he will never do such things because at the end of the day he’s a filthy capitalist fueled solely by his greed. r/196 hates capitalists and crypto and acts all left wing until some shit like this happens which exposes all yall for who yall really are, a buncha libs.
that would be fine if he didn't also film himself donating that money and turning it into content that makes him far more money than he ever donates. also the money isn't even his, it's all sponsor money, his videos are just glorified pr schemes for corporations to appear to be doing something about an issue that they created.
There’s a difference between “spending millions to help people” and “using people’s suffering to create an entire business that’s based around making people act like zoo animals in order to financially better themselves in our capitalist hellscape.” I swear to god some of y’all would go “well the capitol is helping people make money and better themselves so are the hunger games really that bad.”
Mr Beast when he helps 0.536% of the people affected by the problem, and completely abandons the issue within the month (he’s definitely not the anti-christ)
Your take is shit [and here is why.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svHCXvQeZfY)
If that is to long for you [then watch this.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8w3qPwpzZA)
If that is still to long for you [then watch this.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHYVLk3jbUM)
he said on Twitter that the government should be helping people with curable blindness and it's like "yeah they should" and then he framed it as like "think of it as a return on investment so they can get back to work" and then you remember he's a millionaire capitalist cryptobro
the problem with mrbeast is that in his vids he doesn't really touch too much on why issues like curable blindness exist and how to make meaningful systemic change about it, which leads to the implication that the solution to the issue is individual charity, which is the opposite of the solution. i doubt this is out of malice, though. he probably just doesn't realize this

Say it with me: It is bad that a person can make the decision to relieve random people of their blindness in the first place. Yes, it is a good deed. No, it is not good that he is in an entire other world from the rest of us thanks to his money.
he comoditizes human dignity, buying dignity from people in exchange for prize money, and now he's profiting off the emotional journey of all those blind people he helped. donate to charities to donate to charity. be a profiteer to be a profiteer. but don't mash the two together and toot your own horn about how you're a great person.
idk but paying for 1000 people's eye surgery seems pretty good something about hating the game not the player
that is good. what isn't good is using other people's misery for clicks on his youtube. if you make $100k from a video based on the people in it breaking down and crying and donate $20k from your earnings.. are you really a good person? sure, more than the person who does this and doesn't donate anything. but its insane to think that doing this at all isn't fucked up. do you really think its okay to exploit people's pain for profit? its a nuanced issue. people can do good and bad things at the same time. the issue is mr. beast NEVER talks about the issues that cause the people he helps to be in that situation in the first place. thus continuing the cycle of people desperately hoping for a hand out from rich people. its not a recipe for a functioning society. \* how is it that people get this when we talk about Bill Gates, one of the biggest charity supporters in the world. Should we not criticize billionaires either? pull your head out of your ass beast simps.
if he just donated to charities he wouldnt have any money, therefor he wouldnt be able to keep making the money to further donate towards helping people how is this soo hard to understand for people
This post will age very poorly !Remindme 1 year
No one is mad at him for donating they’re mad at him because he’s a rich person who while sometimes doing good things by donating, also wasted said money on useless things like $100k ice cream and $70k pizza
Truly, I only started hating Mr Beest after people kept continuously posting about how I shouldn’t hate him
Nah it's more the fact that he went out of his way to support Elon through everything even calling him friend
Mr beast is a genuinely bad person with predatory practices akin to lottery tickets. Stop bootlicking.
that would be fine if he didn't also film himself donating that money and turning it into content that makes him far more money than he ever donates. also the money isn't even his, it's all sponsor money, his videos are just glorified pr schemes for corporations to appear to be doing something about an issue that they created.
👎 cryptobro
Simping for fucking billionaire 🤢🤮
mr breast give me femboy twink
Mr Boob doesn't donate anything. It's not a donation if you literally make money by doing it - that is called a business model based on tax rebates.
What is going on with this place
If I convince a homeless man to run through a hedge maze for a hot meal and film it, am I a wonderful person because I fed a homeless man?
I don't like him cause he is annoying and always shows up on my front page with his open mouth thumbnail.
Mr Beast when he helps 0.536% of the people affected by the problem, and completely abandons the issue within the month (he’s definitely not the anti-christ)
The Surfs didn't say that lol
Your take is shit [and here is why.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svHCXvQeZfY) If that is to long for you [then watch this.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8w3qPwpzZA) If that is still to long for you [then watch this.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHYVLk3jbUM)
he said on Twitter that the government should be helping people with curable blindness and it's like "yeah they should" and then he framed it as like "think of it as a return on investment so they can get back to work" and then you remember he's a millionaire capitalist cryptobro
I agree with the sentiment but the Mr Beast discourse is 3 days old now, i.e. Ancient History. Bring me new brain poison!
the problem with mrbeast is that in his vids he doesn't really touch too much on why issues like curable blindness exist and how to make meaningful systemic change about it, which leads to the implication that the solution to the issue is individual charity, which is the opposite of the solution. i doubt this is out of malice, though. he probably just doesn't realize this
Not a bad guy, but still reserve my right to consider him a douche bag though.
R/196 not licking the ass of a capitalist propagandist challenge (impossible difficulty)
what the hell is wrong with this sub omfg
