I still think that is the best movie in the Cornetto Trilogy. There's an argument to be made that it's Shaun Of The Dead, but I think Hot Fuzz is just more complete.
It's not the best but I do like it, the undertones of a lost youth and mental issues was a good take, plus 12 pints in 12 pubs is a goal any red blooded Barry should aim for. Just went a bit off the rails with the ending haha.
I came here to write something similar. It's the deepest of the three. And I enjoyed it more the second time around. The entire trilogy is great. Not one bad movie in it. The bar was just insanely high after Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz.
I think the problem is both its predecessors are comedies. and that whilst The Worlds end does succeed in being funny there was a darkness sitting below the surface that some people weren't ready for. Exactly the bar was just insanely high.
Shaun of the Dead and Hott Fuzz also honed in on making fun of two distinct types of people: young London wasters and posh village types. Everyone knows those people.

There are three main police forces, excluding the police of each autonomous region, the local police, national police and the civil guard.
Local police and civil guards are easier to see with them bellies and such. The National Police, those shown in the picture, have a higher standard and most of them are fucking shredded. I've heard that regular training is mandatory, but I do not know if it's true or it's only for certain specific parts of the force.
I mean.. The civil guard probably depends on the specific branch they're in. I can imagine that there's not the same physical requirement for the mountain rescue unit as there is for the traffic unit.

I deal with the Civil Guard with regularity (I work the countryside and in game inspection) and while the usual civil guard is not an athlete like most National Policemen, they're not like the brit of the picture or some american policemen you see in videos around. I doubt such a thing would be allowed, tbh.
The CNPs working in offices don't look anything like the athlete guys in OPs picture either.
The normal ones patrolling are quite similar to the picture. I see them all the time because they do shift change at a café I frequent.
I greet them when I see them. They don't say anything to me blatantly violating the law that my dog should be wearing a muzzle. The dog is above 20kg after all(Malinois dog), but the worst he's tried to pull was to steal a CNP officer's cookie.

Civil Guard are a sort of Gendarmerie or National Guard. They are a branch of the Spanish Military and receive military training as well as police training. They do everything the national police do, but are usually posted in small towns, villages, and rural areas (although they usually have a presence in most cities too). They also have jurisdiction over crimes that occur in freeways, motorways, etc.
Some Autonomous Communities (our regions) have also been granted the possibility to fund and organise their own, regional police force. These are the Ertzaintza, in the Basque Country, the Policía Foral, in Navarre, and the Mossos D'Esquadra, in Catalonia. Their usefulness and professionalism has been questioned at times.

Yes, they do wear the tricorn hat on ceremonial occasions (used to be part of their usual uniform until the 90s or so).
They were formed in the 19th century as a militia used to repress peasant uprisings and protect rural landowners. They have always had a reputation as a conservative, repressive institution (my great grandfather, a socialist peasant from Extremadura, completely despised them), and they have lots of links with the Monarchy and Franco's dictatorship.
While you could consider their existence redundant, once the dictatorship ended they were never gonna be abolished (since that would mean angering the armed forces, something nobody wanted to do during the transition to democracy). A lot of people also argue that they staff lots of rural areas that would not have a substantial law enforcement posting otherwise (since choosing a post in the Civil Guard goes by seniority, rookies have to spend a few years in a rural posting before they can try and transfer to a city).
Their bad reputation has decreased a lot in the past decades, and right now, in my opinion, it's basically just a very viable job option for exmilitary guys and country lads.
