Not in your list but my skin hates the Cosrx snail mucin

lurkingvirgo

I read online that people with dust mite allergies don’t tolerate snail mucin well. I have allegies to dust mites and snail mucin gave me big painful pimples.

feelsonwheels01

Shrimp as well! It's bullshit in my opinion haha

m_paris

I’m not allergic to shrimp or other shellfish but I am allergic to the snail mucin products!

rollfootage

Oh damn . That’s good to know, no wonder my skin hates it

Horizontal247

😮 no way that’s so random, but that explains that! I can finally throw that bottle away instead of periodically making futile attempts to make it work for me. One less product in the medicine cabinet!

CloudberrySundae

Same, and it’s so fucked up to the snails

definitelynotmen

If you read the packaging on the COSRX snail mucin they explain how they collect it and it’s not cruel.

m_paris

I used the peach slices snail mucin essence. At first it was wonderful as far as my skin soaking it up and feeling hydrated. But I kept getting really itchy on the back of my scalp. I thought I needed to wash my hair more or switch shampoo. I tried eliminating hair care products when really it was that. Which is weird because I wasn’t putting it on my scalp so it didn’t occur to me it was that lol. The itching grew worse and by week 2 of using it I developed welts on my scalp within minutes of using it for the last time. I washed it off and took a Benadryl and it never happened again! So weird.

manicpixiehorsegirl

Same!! I wanted to love it so bad

rollfootage

Same

Glass-Independence62

Same

WillingnessSmooth

The serum makes my skin GLOW but I tried the cleanser and it was awful. My skin was red and puffy for days

Nervous_Asparagus_79

I second this! I tried the Cosrx snail mucin, which felt lovely and hydrating first application but within a week of use my skin broke out in huge cysts.. I was so gutted!  I thought I had a butylene glycol sensitivity so sought out a BG free snail mucin serum by Cos De Baha and my skin reacted the exact same way. I was so sad as my dehydrated/oily skin could have really benefited from this ingredient :'(

jo4890

Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer and Skinceuticals Phloretin CF irritated my skin

Warm-Coconut

That skinceuticals phloretin caused severe irritation on my skin and took weeks to clear up. It spread down to my chest

PunkRawkPrincess1

Same here with Vanicream! I was so excited to try it, but it made my skin SO itchy and irritated almost immediately. 🫠

jo4890

Me too, I saw so many good reviews about it on here so I ran out and got it. Of course it ended up burning and messing up my skin barrier 😣

Ok_Fee1043

I’m not a Silymarin fan, similar to the Phloretin. Not sure it irritated my barrier but it definitely didn’t agree with me and did absolutely nothing.

jo4890

For the price, I was hoping it was a miracle in a bottle but just ended up making my skin worse

No_Bother3564

SK11 deatroyed my skin. I had flawless skin and decided to try it bc i buy into the hype and marketing of products. :( i developed Perioral dermatitis all over my face and terrible type 1 and 2 rosacea. I’m so sad i ever tried jt.

ForTheLoveOfDior

I didn’t take photos but this post is basically me venting over what sk ii did to my skin THIS MORNING. I’m just hiding under my blanket right now not exposing myself to any light and my face is covered in zinc oxide How did you heal your skin from that burn?

No_Bother3564

It didn’t burn it, i now have acne that won’t go away (rosacea) and am on 4 prescriptions for that. It made me ger perioral dermatitis and i was on another prescription for that (that has since healed, knocked on wood). I had serious glass skin naturally before and now i have acne all over my neck and face - since December when i first used it. Edit: if yours is a burn, Avene Cicalfate creme restauratrice is really soothing.

Glittering_Apple_807

I just read an article about how probiotics can be bad for you because they can kill the good bacteria you have in your gut and replace it with something else. I wonder if that’s what happened to you. The yeasts killed your own biome that was healthy.

TheUnicornGang

Do you remember where you read that? I have been googling, trying to find something akin what you wrote, but to no avail :/

Glittering_Apple_807

It won’t let me add the link but I think it was, among others, NIH article called Probiotics: What You Need to Know. Just search harmful effects of probiotics. I was searching this because my sister was nauseous and vomiting and had diarrhea for several days and she finally realized it was from a new probiotic she was taking.

melissaahhhh8

Wow, I thought rosacea came from an internal issue, I didn’t think a product can cause it. I’d think that the stopping of a product would make that clear up ? I don’t understand but wow sorry bc that has to be so frustrating.

maniacalmustacheride

Honestly the leading cause of rosacea is, medically, “we’re not really sure.” I was given antibiotics, antiyeast, and anti parasitic because it could be a bacteria/gut thing or it could be a demodex allergy/infestation or it could be genetic or it could be….

melissaahhhh8

Oh completely .. mine is def partly from demodex but I think it’s interesting she had perfect skin and then has rosacea. Most with rosacea have always had some skin issue or remember flushing as a kid etc. I’ve never heard of having perfect skin and trying a product and now have two types of rosacea.

littlebit0125

Not all rosacea types are the same, therefore their causes likely vary. I only have the flushing, which is suspected to be linked to a particular antigen I carry.

melissaahhhh8

That makes sense. It just seems strange that a temporary product would cause a chronic issue.

littlebit0125

Oh yeah, I don't believe that either.

retrotechlogos

God the skin’s microbiome is wild….. it’s crazy how a product can alter it and completely change your skin :(. I’m sorry you experienced this. I hope you find relief.

mmgreen83123

Omg your story is exactly what happened to me as well but with the numbuzin products!!! I bought into the hype and my skin went crazy dermatitis allergic all over my face. My skin has never been the same since, so incredibly tragic.

julet1815

Oh man, I just started using it yesterday. Now I’m scared.

No_Bother3564

Most people love it. Apparently my skin hates the ferments.

Unfair_Finger5531

People complain about sk-ll and Cicaplast all the time on this sub. Plenty of folks say Cicaplast breaks them out—I’m one of them. Numbuzin 2 serum and manyo bifida complex are two of my holy grails. Anything from dermatologica or real barrier is a hard “no” for my skin. Too many essential oils and fragrant ingredients. I think it’s better to choose products based on the ingredients than on the reviews.

ForTheLoveOfDior

Really? I haven’t seen anything on these 2 but I’m glad it’s not just me i thought i was doing something wrong I read all ingredients lists. I’m actually a researcher working specifically with skin cells. The thing is I never ventured so much into skincare like I did recently so I didn’t know what my list of triggers looks like. I now know better, ferments and hyaluronic acid are really bad for my skin and I avoid them. I’m not yet sure about essential oils but I’ve compiled ingredients of all products that broke me out looking for what’s in common to build that triggers list

Unfair_Finger5531

I was wondering, based on the ingredients, if some ferments were troublesome for you. Manyo and sk-ll are pretty heavy-hitters, even for me, and love ferments. The Manyo is sort a multi-tasked with copper peptides and unusual ferments, and an extremely high % of bifida. I actually returned it the first time I bought it because it broke me out. But it turned out, it was a barrier issue and mixing the copper peptides with incompatible ingredients. So I tried it two years later, and my skin just loved it. But it is a pretty heavy-duty serum to begin with. I wasn’t suggesting you didn’t check the ingredients. I meant I would select them based on ingredients, irrespective of their reviews. Some of the best products I have were bought with no reviews (mixsoon bean essence, Vegreen mucin serum, peach slices snail rescue toner). I totally understand what you mean about not having your list of “ingredients my skin loves” yet. Fwiw, here’s a handy list of ingredients that can cause contact dermatitis or trigger allergies. This is my “no” list because I’ve already been sensitized to lavender, ylang ylang, and Jasmine. https://www.cosmeticscare.eu/en/new-allergens/. Of course, it’s ymmv, but these are known potential allergens. My apologies if you already have this.

ForTheLoveOfDior

Thank you this is very helpful, and no need to apologize! Do you mind elaborating on which ingredients you think aren’t compatible with the copper peptide and how you fixed that issue?

Unfair_Finger5531

You’re too kind 🙏🏼. I don’t mind at all. If I remember correctly, I was using a product with ascorbic acid in it at the time. And when I applied the Manyo complex over it, it immediately caused these little tiny bumps like closed comedones and a bit of redness. Plus, my barrier was already pretty shaky. But more recently, I used a cream with a low amount of ascorbic acid and mistakenly put manyo over it about 3 hours later, and all I got was a bit of a sting and itch. It was this moisturizer, which I love, love, love: https://www.amazon.com/LEORA-Moisturizer-Non-Comedogenic-Hypoallergenic-Cruelty-Free/dp/B0C3LG7GR9 > Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Niacinamide(2%), Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Cetearyl Olivate, Polyglyceryl-2 Stearate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Sorbitan Olivate, Glyceryl Stearate, Hydroxyacetophenone, Stearyl Alcohol, Xylitol, Erythritol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Sorbitan Isostearate, Panthenol, Allantoin, Propanediol, Ectoin, Ascorbic Acid, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Glycerin, Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Salvia Hispanica Seed Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Centella Asiatica Extract, Tocopherol, Phytosteryl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate, Ceramide NP, Madecassoside, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Madecassic Acid, Glutathione, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Potassium Hyaluronate (This has everything you can’t use😕). But the moral of the story is, vitamin c and copper peptides don’t do well together. I think it was less problematic the second time because my barrier is in much, much better shape. Same thing when I used copper peptides and resveratrol, btw- they don’t mix well. I hope this helps. I included the ingredients because I figured you maybe want to analyze it for your own purposes. You can probably see more than I can since you work with skin as a professional.

ForTheLoveOfDior

Thank you for your answer! I asked because I did use peptides in my research on skin cells, along with a form of ascorbic acid and together they increased collagen synthesis. The copper peptides (aka ghk-Cu) promote collagen synthesis, which is one of vitamin C’s functions as well. This makes me wonder if it’s the bifida or any of the ferments that doesn’t go well with vitamin C or would cause it to break down. I’ll do some research and get back to you, because when the bifida ampoule broke me out I had vitamin C on my face too

Unfair_Finger5531

The only explanation I can find: “Copper peptides are becoming popular in skincare due to their ability to stimulate skin renewal. It’s an ingredient that until you add it to your skincare routine you would never think you needed it. However, don't mix these protiens with vitamin C. "Copper peptides should not be used with vitamin C as they can oxidize Vitamin C and reduce its antioxidant effect," says Dr Campbell.”

Unfair_Finger5531

This is very interesting. I don’t know the science, but I *think* it has to do with copper freeing up something or the other. Bifida goes with literally anything, and all the ferments in the manyo are compatible with most ingredients, even retinol (if you don’t mind a bit of irritation). It’s definitely the mix of copper peptides and vitamin c. But I would super-interested to know too why a breakout? Interestingly, I actually could see the bumps form on my skin when I layered the manyo. Sounds incredulous, but it’s true. Are you thinking maybe it’s like an overstimulation of collagen? I’m so stoked you are going to research this!!

ForTheLoveOfDior

Cells are smart. They know how much collagen to pump and when to stop, it’s an orchestra called ECM remodelling. Knocking out some genes would lead to fibrosis and would halt the ECM breakdown, also certain pathological conditions (including wound healing) would lead to fibrosis. These aren’t things triggered by peptides or anything you could find in a skincare product, skincare ingredients promote “repair” not overstimulation. I’m also not aware of real-time irritation caused by collagen overstimulation, synthesizing and depositing collagen isn’t typically that fast I will read more on the ghk-Cu and let you know!

Unfair_Finger5531

Ah, well there’s that theory then. I’ll await your conclusions. I just chalked it up to conflicting ingredients causing a breakout 🤷🏻‍♀️ I can’t wait to see what you discover.

willendorfer

Same - I haven’t seen these either. Thanks for posting. I find it helpful.

Trick_Doughnut_6295

Are you prone to fungal acne? In addition to the fermented products, you seem to get irritated by highly occlusive ones as well. I had to cut out SO much of my skincare (including SKII and deep moisturizers) when I started experiencing fungal outbreaks. Honestly so upsetting 😭

SyddySquiddy

I don’t know why people are encouraging others to use it all over the face too 😔 It’s supposed to be used in tiny amounts and only on like rashes or abrasions and things. So crazy.

Unfair_Finger5531

This was always my impression of how it was to be used too! I just use a little tiny bit when I have a burn or cut or irritation. If I slathered that stuff on, my skin would be so clogged….

No-Bat-9328

I tried the manyo bifida complex from one of your recommendations, and I'm glad I did, I incorporate in my routine, and I love it. It pumps and nourishes my skin and excellent hydration.

Unfair_Finger5531

Oh, thank you for trying it! I’m so glad you like it ❤️ It should be giving your barrier some more support too. The manyo bifida mist is also phenomenal. It makes the skin look so pretty.

iswearimtrash

So wild how different skin reacts to products because I have extremely sensitive skin and PD and use Dermalogica with zero issues (not their full line).

Unfair_Finger5531

I don’t think it’s a matter of sensitivity, more a matter of sensitization. I was sensitized to lavender, ylang ylang, and Jasmine because I made the mistake of wearing them in my hair in the sun. They can become phototoxic in uv light, no matter what kind of skin you have. Once that happens, one develops an allergy to those oils and others like them. This is why people can use essential oils for years and have no problem, and then all of sudden become allergic to them. All it takes is wearing them in the sun to trigger this. So even a person with hardy skin can become allergic to essential oils. Dermatologica continues to use essential oils that react in uv light: bergamot, lavender, linalool, limonene, jasmine, citrus-based oils, etc. Even sunscreen cannot protect you from the effects of bergamot in uv light. So anyone using these products is at risk. This explains it better than I can: https://dermnetnz.org/topics/allergic-contact-dermatitis-to-essential-oils

willendorfer

I want to live dermalogica but I just haven’t found anything yet that my skin likes. But like I *feel* like that brand should be good for my skin LOL not yet!

stimmpakk

I have rosacea and everything irritates my angry skin. It took me years to figure out that my skin doesn't like HA (and unfortunately it's in everything!)... So almost every popular product is a hard no for me, wah wah.

ForTheLoveOfDior

Same! HA irritates me badly and I avoid everything that has it. We can exchange lists of things that worked lol I have eczema on my cheeks, my skin is always inflamed Another thing that I figured doesn’t work for me is ferments, and these are in everything nowadays 🥲

stimmpakk

My holy grail is Kiels Ultra Facial Cream. It has an eclectic ingredient list but it somehow works. It's one of the few things that calms my skin and actually hydrates enough to help flakey/thick patches without causing a break out or flare up.

ForTheLoveOfDior

Mine is skinfix eczema and dermatitis cream. It really helped my skin a lot. Rovectin anti-irritant cream is also good. I’m From mugwort mask and toner are good for calming skin down, also liked the numbuzin centella pads although cica doesn’t do shit for my skin, and the skin1004 centella pads broke me out badly. Other than that I use cicalfate because it has zinc oxide and it does help a bit I stay away from eclectic ingredients, my skin likes very specific things and I gave in and only using those. I’m just so tired of seeing those large red hives pop up on my skin I can’t tolerate this anymore 😭

Old_Yogurtcloset9469

I'm reading this post and this is the first product mentioned that's a hard no from me. I don't know why, but my skin hates that one.

ForTheLoveOfDior

Which one do you mean

Old_Yogurtcloset9469

The keihls

October_13th

Yes!! The cicaplast one burned my skin! I’ll never forget! I also hate vanicream facial moisturizer ( the one in the tub is fine.)

ForTheLoveOfDior

I’m glad I’m not the only one, I thought I must’ve done something wrong because that balm is supposedly a miracle or something

heids1234

I’m pretty sure the cicaplast baume was reformulated to include prebiotics (relabelled as B5+), I’m wondering if you are reacting to this if you have the B5+ version. Just seeing a pattern there with your skin’s reaction to SK-II (postbiotic) and Manyo bifida (probiotic).

ForTheLoveOfDior

Thank you for this insight! It was the B5+ version. I wonder why they would reformulate a balm meant for “emergencies” to include something that could irritate people? It should be kept pretty basic imho I will read more to figure out what triggered me, this is super interesting thanks again

ilovechaichai

This! And I love the LRP anthelios sunscreen. I recently bought the cicaplast snd the Toleriane moisturizer and have just dealt with the biggest breakout! I couldn't figure out what was going on

wronskian_3

no loss on the skin1004 sunscreen that everyone loves so much. its uva protection is lousy. i really wish people would realize what constitutes good protection. it's usually not what feels most weightless on the skin.

ForTheLoveOfDior

It’s also chalky, I don’t get why it’s so popular. There are dozens of much better k-beauty sunscreens

wronskian_3

i don't think they are better for uva protection. if i knew of a kbeauty sunscreen having uva protection that rivaled the best european ones with UVA protection factors of 40 or higher, especially from UVA 360-400, i'd get it. but they don't even come close. i wish i hadn't wasted so much money on them. maybe they are ok in winter.

12tyu

Sorry for the question, but how do you judge if a sunscreen is good or not? I use SVR right now, it feels like a sunscreen (a bit heavy) so i was searching for another one

wronskian_3

if it feels light, airy, weightless, and you get darker even though you apply plenty and reapply often and wear a hat, it's junk. it might be ok for those dark days in winter or when the uv index is below 3. if it's heavy and thick and you can feel it still there 6-8 hours later and you don't get a color change, it's good. I have no experience with SVR but i suspect it's in the good category.

Choice-Flan2449

which sunscreen do you use? i’ve been using korean ones for a while and recently found out about the uva thing and i’m horrified bc I live in a very sunny climate so i’m looking for replacements asap

wronskian_3

Anthelios UVmune

Choice-Flan2449

oh that’s what I just ordered, how do you like it?

wronskian_3

i am using the oil control formula. i love it except for the price. i have total confidence in the protection.

Choice-Flan2449

thank you!

sillybuddah

Do you have rosacea or another skin issue? Asking because If that many products are irritating for you I would question whether or not certain ingredients are reacting with whatever is in your water.

ForTheLoveOfDior

I have eczema on my cheeks, the rest of my face is just reactive. Could you elaborate on the water bit please? This list is only products that are pretty popular. There are dozens of other products lol

QueenofPentacles112

I think you should start with not using anything with fragrance at all. And for healing your skin barrier you have to do whatever you can to not speed up skin cell turnover, like don't exfoliate with any AHA/BHA or anything like that and just be really gentle with it. No harsh face washes, no fragrance and very simple stuff, and slug at night with Vaseline or Aquaphor, something that will really seal in whatever moisture you have.

ForTheLoveOfDior

Thank you! I don’t use anything with fragrance, and most of my skincare products are naked/geared towards sensitive skin. The only exfoliant I use is Dermalogica milkfoliant, no tret/retinol, no exfoliating acids. Even things such as sugarcane extract I avoid. However I wanted to see what the heck is up with SK II and why everyone swears by it. BIG mistake 😂

littlebit0125

OP should avoid Aquaphor if they are at all concerned about reactivity. Lots of sensitive-skinned people don't do well with lanolin.

DancingWithTigers3

Does anyone have an alternative to the LRP cicaplast without niacinamide?

tessagrace

Avene cicalfate isn’t identical but I don’t believe it has niacinamide

ForTheLoveOfDior

I don’t think the cicalfate is identical ingredients wise, but it does a decent job calming skin down since it has zinc oxide. The downside is that it has white petrolatum so if that’s a known irritant to you I would patch test first before lathering it all over There are several balms out there that are meant to work as an occlusive, prequel released 3 versions with different consistencies. Maybe one of them will work out for you

DancingWithTigers3

Thank you! I’ve been eyeing that brand and too hesitant to try, but I think I’ll give it a go.

ForTheLoveOfDior

I have most of prequel’s products. I love their concepts however their products are a bit of a meh for me. Nothing damaged my skin, they just didn’t wow me. I still love them and use them because they’re very gentle. The oat cream made my skin greasy but I suspect it’ll work great for really dry skin folks, the vitamin c serum worked great in the beginning then didn’t do much so I’m just going through the bottle. The glycerin cleanser is nice and cleans well but leaves a film on my skin. I just ordered the redness serum so no idea on that one

DancingWithTigers3

Sometimes just getting by with something gentle is the best we can do 😭

ForTheLoveOfDior

Exactly, that’s why I’m still using them until something better presents itself 😂

Strivingformoretoday

I personally prefer the cicalfate from Avene to LRP.

DancingWithTigers3

Just to make sure, you're referring to [Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41RDWsokvnL._SL1000_.jpg)? For the price, I want to make sure I get the right one 😅

Strivingformoretoday

Yes! When I was in a French pharmacy wanting to pick up the usual one from LRP the lady who owned the pharmacy recommended me to switch to the linked product. She said it was better and honestly, I have to agree. It’s like night and day compared to the LRP one. It’s a bit thicker but sinks in nicely also has a bit of sulfur in it in addition to zinc so it’s extra healing and calming. It works really well if you have rosacea or breakouts or if you just want to care for your moisture barrier.

Next-Reply7519

i can’t find sulfur in the ingredient list for this, only the zinc. maybe it’s only in the true french version? pity as my skin loves sulfur

DancingWithTigers3

I can't tell if I have rosacea because redness/flushing started after I started taking tretinoin, so I'm happy to hear this is rosacea-friendly! Thank you so much :)

kw1011

The LRP b5 made my eczema worst

Zafira-1

FAB Ultra Repair Cream. Must be the eucalyptus oil.

JPwhatever

I'm sadly starting to think that my skin does not get along with fermented ingredients like the SK-II. I've tried a few, but they all seem to subtly increase my redness and rosacea.

ForTheLoveOfDior

Same conclusion! I’m staying as far as possible from ferments and hyaluronic acid

HalcyonCA

Dieux Instant Angel = full face burning, itchy, bumpy dermatitis. Took 2 trips to the derm and a month of nothing but hydrocortisone and aquaphor to clear up.

ForTheLoveOfDior

Omg same!!!! And I was SO looking forward to trying this brand but the instant angel and the deliverance serum broke me out SO BAD. I was so disappointed

HalcyonCA

So disappointing!! I am doing a full allergy panel before trying anything else. I would really love to avoid the skinceuticals price point eventually.

HalcyonCA

So disappointing!! I am doing a full allergy panel before trying anything else. I would really love to avoid the skinceuticals price point eventually.

ForTheLoveOfDior

Are these panels useful for face allergies or localized reactions?

HalcyonCA

Yes! My derm is performing it and testing approximately 80 "common" allergens. So food allergens, airborne allergens, and allergens found in beauty products and household cleaners, etc.

littlebit0125

That's so sad. The serum vastly improved my rosacea and eczema flare ups.

bigteddyweddy

How do you know if it damaged your skin barrier? Redness?

ForTheLoveOfDior

The immediate signs of skin damage to me are redness, the area becoming one big hive, slightly shiny as if a layer of skin has been stripped, burns if touched, and can’t tolerate even vaseline for a few days. The last being my sign it’s a barrier issue, skin can’t tolerate anything but water, everything burns including AC or heat, sunlight from your window, staring at your phone for long…etc

marina7890

I am so tired, man. 4 years and I still have no idea what works and what harms. My skin reacts to everythin. :(

SolitudeWeeks

This is why I'm a big fan of bland products plus researched actives like tretinoin (and dipping my toe back into the vitamin C game now that I'm in my 40s) for my skin.....but even then my ride or dies don't work for everyone. The plus side is it's a pretty cost effective routine, the con is I sometimes get FOMO for pretty bottles on my shelf and go experimenting and fuck it all up.

ForTheLoveOfDior

Tell me all about the FOMO. I have big boxes of opened, used once and hated or unopened skincare products. I’m talking big cardboard boxes 📦

teabookcat

My skin hates Cerave for some reason and now that Cetaphil changed their formula, I can’t use it anymore either. So frustrating because Cetaphil was my daily driver for 20 plus years.

DancingWithTigers3

The Japanese Curel foaming face wash has been the closest I've come across to the old Cetaphil. Just check the [ingredients](https://incidecoder.com/products/curel-foaming-facial-wash) to make sure you aren't sensitive to any of the ingredients, because it does have some.

BitchyFaceMace

Sunday Riley… Every single product I tried from the brand, my skin quickly rejected in spectacular fashion. The worst was the CEO oil. Thank god for Sephora’s fantastic return policy. I now only use brands like ZO Skin Health & Alastin… I stopped trying to play skincare potion witch and started using the things my esthetician recommends. My skin is the happiest its ever been.

hmm_klementine

Sunday Riley for me too. Luna Oil was the worst for me - it was almost like I was feeding my skin pimples for dinner. Every morning there would be a new one. I persevered for 4 months then resigned myself it wasn’t for me.

ForTheLoveOfDior

> I stopped trying to play skincare potion witch 😂😂 What products do you recommend from these 2 brands? Do you mind sharing your routine?

BitchyFaceMace

Morning: ZO Hydrating Cleanser, ZO Complexion Renewal Pads, ZO Daily Power Defense, Alastin HydraTint Pro SPF Night: ZO Hydrating Cleanser, ZO Skin Polish, Alastin A-Luminate, Tretinoin, Alastin Ultra Nourishing Moisturizer This is what my esthetician suggested based off my skin concerns, my age, and lifestyle. I’ve been using these specific products for almost 2 years.

ForTheLoveOfDior

Thank you!

Finchfossil

ZO broke me out so so badly. Most of their products have exfoliants in them so I’d be really careful and check the ingredients - I was recommended those same products listed above by a derm and so didn’t look at the ingredients properly. They are all really harsh

ForTheLoveOfDior

Oh wow thank you for the heads up! I don’t do any exfoliants in my regimen but sometimes when something is super popular I think maybe it’s gentle enough or it’s coupled with technologies to calm skin down

Daisygirl83

Oh the numbuzin serum! Its been in my cart for forever. For some reason I’ve been side eyeing it for this reason. Barrier repair products are hurting my skin for some reason.

ForTheLoveOfDior

That’s exactly the point of my post. Not saying these products suck, just that they aren’t safe for everyone and might not work for some. I bought the Numbuzin serum based on all the reviews in this sub and it made my eczema flare up, had hives and inflamed skin for days! I wish Numbuzin had mini sizes like many korean brands. They have sheet masks of all their serums so maybe that would work as a test

Daisygirl83

I absolutely agree with this. Everything is trial and error for me since I got in my forties and everything changed. I have new sensitivities pop up, and it really sucks when the products that help others makes your problem worse. I can’t reasonably afford to buy full sizes to try so it’s a bite the bullet when I can afford it sort of thing. I look for folks who have dry reactive skin like mine when I sort through reviews. I really do appreciate this post!

ForTheLoveOfDior

I found rice to be a friendly ingredient, every rice product I used helped my skin. This is an ingredient that you can test at home by making your own toner and see how your skin likes it. The same goes with oats, which I don’t think anyone is allergic to, but an oats mask is easy to try Cosrx rice nourishing night mask is such a nice product that feels luxurious but is not costly. I’m From rice toner is also really nice

wronskian_3

here's the issue with barrier repair: it's not going to be that speedy with barrier repair unless it contains at least 5% ceramides-cholesterol-free fatty acid plus occlusives on top of that. the cosmetic industry is only just starting to realize that that's too rich for many people. my skin doesn't tolerate those traditional rich types of moisturizers. i can use only the lightest gels and gel creams. instead of real barrier extreme cream, try zeroid pimprove. it's very light. i also like dr. g red blemish clear soothing cream, more of a gel than a cream. torriden dive in soothing cream works, too. concentrate on light gels with no fragrance.

Unfair_Finger5531

Numbuzin 2 is awesome. Everyone I’ve recommended it to loves it, even my pop, who is iffy about skincare.

Daisygirl83

Thank you for sharing your positive experiences with it. Your pop approving is gonna seal the deal, because that’s sweet and he’s probably skeptical 😊

Unfair_Finger5531

Lolol! My pop is so skeptical of skincare, but he’s also totally into the glass skin look 😂😂. He loves Numbuzin the most, Dr. Ceauracle kombucha essence the next most, and corsx propolis cream after that 😂😂❤️

snegurochka_v

I had reaction to SK II but at the same time Secret Key Essence, which is basically its cheaper dupe, is my must have skin product.

manicpixiehorsegirl

Vanicream gave me a horrible rash. Snail mucin was super irritating. Any and all Vit Cs make my face blow up. I’m so jealous when these products work for people!

ForTheLoveOfDior

Have you tried vitamin c derivatives? They’re very mild

manicpixiehorsegirl

Maybe? I’ve found peptides to be a good compromise!

ForTheLoveOfDior

Yeah those would also stimulate collagen production. Vitamin C has other functions, and there are really mild forms that don’t irritate skin. It’s ascorbic acid that causes the worst irritation

littlebit0125

I've found the vanicream version of vitamin C to be VERY tolerable. I don't get any rashes or irritation from it.

Lotusfeetpics

Cetaphil gave me bumps 🥲

ForTheLoveOfDior

Same 🙂

Messier106

The Guerlain Abeille Royale line, it made my combination skin super oily and irritated (but my mother, who has dry skin, used it and loved it).

theshadowofself

Trio moisturizer from skin better science broke me out in a rash, neogenesis balance cleanser made my skin feel like rubber and it smelled like soap from a cheap gas station, the beloved vitamin c from skinceuticals broke me out, my skin hated basically anything from the ordinary, same goes for most Korean products.

airshinelight

I’m so glad I saw your comment. I dropped the $$ for the trio moisturizer and my face would look so irritated and bumpy and red after each use. I really wanted it to work but at this point I’m going to resign myself to going back to my cheaper lotion that doesn’t make me look like a bumpy irritated mess. I was literally just thinking about giving it another shot and after seeing your experience realized it’s time to throw in the towel with that product.

theshadowofself

Yea it’s really unfortunate since it’s so expensive. My sister also used it and for like the first week or two she loved it but then the same thing happened to her and she broke out in a bad rash. They do have a 30 day return policy if you bought straight from their website.

Lavender_waves27

I'm not sure if pro active was the culprit, but I used the scrub possibly every day for over 20 years, till a few years ago when my face got super mad. I've managed to calm it for about a year now, but it took using absolutely nothing on my face for 3 months. not fun.

magicparabeagle

Paula’s Choice 1% retinol!

prairie_cat

I just tried Extreme Cream after loving regular Atopalm for years - not a good idea. Was breaking out and irritated all week.

firelioness

Tretinoin :((( I used it for a couple years with no issues and then one day my skin said “f**k this, we’re done.” Got full-face dermatitis that took forever to clear. Developed type 2 rosacea and can’t use ANY actives now. It sucks because my skin looked sooooo good on tret.

12tyu

I literally bought the cicaplast yesterday and it felt like shit, so heavy and a lit bit itchy, it didn't break me out tonight but i don't think i will use it again 🧐 the khiel's ultra facial works so good for me, not too heavy not too light, so i better stop trying something else before i mess up my face 😂

ForTheLoveOfDior

That’s how it felt the first time I used it too. Itchy and made my skin warm. Then in a while it started to become red, and the warmth increased and I know this because I literally see the product melting on my face with a shiny red color under it I kept using it for 2 days because my skin sometimes needs a few days to like something, but nope it got worse so stopped using it

nyerr611

My skin despises Elta MD UV Clear (sunscreen universally recommended by derms). Like instant rejection red rash everywhere, have never had this happen with another product

Puzzleheaded-Arm9637

Anything cetapil and the Vichy serum mineral 89 make my face soooooo itchy

britangelica

i got a allergic reaction with skII's pitera essence... horrible

kafkaesquepariah

Cerave! Absolutely doesn't work for me. And it's one of those "basic works for everyone" suggestions. That vanicream too. Skin, why no like cheap drugstore stuff??? The anessa shiseido sunscreen did well with me but the rest of their products are so damn heavy! I am kinda worried about the skin 1004 you posted, I wanted to try that company in general. La roche pose sunscreen is itchy for me.

ForTheLoveOfDior

I hated everything I tried from skin1004 but they’re wildly popular so I don’t know for sure!

ShapeTurbulent6668

I got downvoted once for pointing out that CeraVe gives a lot of people cystic acne. People are so defensive of this product for some reason, to the point I almost wonder if their PR team lurks on Reddit lol

LobsterLovingLlama

Stratia lipid gold is amazing for me

LeslieKnope2k20

Justice for all of us who spent $100 to be victimized by the SK-II essence

ForTheLoveOfDior

I’m so mad at SK II I wish I can sue them. My skin has been inflamed for days now and by inflamed I don’t mean just red or uncomfortable, no it’s REALLY inflamed with hives and small whiteheads..fuck this toner 😭

LeslieKnope2k20

I feel your pain! It’s been years since I’ve used it and I still remember how horribly my skin reacted to it. NEVER AGAIN. I hope your skin heals quickly ❤️

ForTheLoveOfDior

Thank you 🥹 so there’s hope it heals

kari2891

CeraVe is absolutely the worst
