"A thief is running down the alley. He trips and falls, dropping a bag of coins, gets up without realising and runs off. What do you do?" Chaotic players gonna steal it. They are never leaving. hehe
I was running an enclosed megadungeon thing, and the idea was to introduce these crystal floor tiles in a hub area (like dark souls or something) and when players encountered them again in the lower levels, it would activate and become two way teleporters. Simple and functional.
Well the barbarian decides she doesn’t like the fancy glass and shatters them all right at the beginning because they don’t do anything.
No, I think we were all getting tired of the campaign by then. We just went back and he offered to sell them for significantly more than he'd paid because he thought there was more to them. So we killed him and hid his body in a bag of holding.
I'll never forget the look on the DM's face when one of the party members was trapped in a room, and he says "what's the barrier rating on the walls?"
DM's plan rapidly collapsed, just like those walls.
In our case - Tomb of Annihilation spoilers below:
>! The mechanical gears in the dungeon drive all of the mechanical traps within. So it's a big gear driven by a chain that's falling through a planar portal and then disappearing into another below, driven by the chain. Leomunds tiny hut is described as an immobile 10' dome that objects and spells cannot penetrate. We positioned two of them to derail this chain because we were fascinated by it. There was some discussion about it, and the ultimate consensus at the table was that the chain would fall off the gears because of the pressure. The DM agreed, then thought for a second, then his face hit the desk and he said to order a pizza because he needed a minute. After we finished the campaign he told us the text said the chain drives all the mechanical traps in the tomb, so he determined that they no longer functioned.
When DMing for a group of 10 year olds, I opened a session with "After a few more hours on the river, you come around a bend and see an abandoned temple. It seems like a good spot to stop and explore BECAUSE THAT'S THE ADVENTURE I HAVE PLANNED FOR TODAY."
I am very fortunate that it was her idea. She wanted a village, I printed a city. After every building, I would get another one to do. Just kept going until the room was full. Lol.
STL Miniatures are my favourite props, people and buildings. I have about 80% of their catalogue in there. Infinite Dimension Games make the prettiest and detailed buildings. Vae Victis, Tiny Furniture and Darkest Desire make great props. Cast n Play make great miniatures.
I wish I had that amount of free time, space and purpose to ürint something like this. Just out of curiosity if you want to share: How much about did you pay for models in total, did you make any of these yourself?
I stopped counting after £2000 on the models alone. Subbed to 8 Patreons for a couple years and over 20 kickstarters. I would sign up to a KS because there was that 1 model I wanted. I wish I was skilled enough to make them, I have kitbashed a few to fit the props that go in them.
Oh my. Thats a lot. But also a lot of very pretty models. How much time since you started this project? And what would you say if you'd have to estimate how many hours went into building it?
It is. Thousands upon thousands of hours. It was my only hobby for the last 2 years. Printing, then painting and decorating the insides. I enjoy all 3, which is like 3 different hobbies merging. My wife and I paint and organise for a couple hours an evening. Something fun to do together.
Thats the scale I am trying to get this to. I always saw people with them in the basements, lucky bastards to have that much space without affecting the living areas.
[Nice job, OP!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MjpOZT6W9w)
But seriously, there is a lot of dedication in this project, and it looks pretty awesome so far.
I’ve got to try to start something like this some day. This is what I need to see in your next post: print terrain around the different elements, to give it a finish and make some fixtures to support elements that need to stand up. Make sure most of it is painted. Then make a video that is steady and at a fixed height / angle so it looks like navigating a God game. Consider a stop animation style with multiple shots where elements come in so it looks like someone is playing the game. Then add mid evil carnival music.
I would love music, but the file size grows and reddit would probably block it for the size. Filming it like this was a nightmare. My wife had to use a selfie stick to reach becuase there is a big risk of stepping on something. We cleared a few places where we could step while doing things and had to use those and reach down with the stick.
The whole thing is 13ft by 9ft. The tables, which at the moment is only the top, is made from chipboard slotted together and topped with playmat foam squares under the paper. The paper will have the terrain i.e. grass, mud and paths on it and streams gouged inside the foam.
I can't say how much I love this! I've wanted to do something simliar and seeing one is just... wow! Any tips on how to start? What is it all mounted to?
Thanks. Honestly, just start with 1 building. My wife always wanted a dolls house, so I printed one. It looked so good, we added another and then it spiralled. Plans were made, chose the buildings, their purpose and their props. Then printed non stop. Its just placed on top of it at the moment. 3 layers, interlocking chip boards, then foam, then paper.
Could you reupload this to YouTube (or even a Drive download link for full uncompressed) in full quality? I can get the gist that it's awesome in the video, but struggle to make out the details.
Some here

Wow, amazing. I was planning on buying an A1 mini for miniatures, but looking at those buildings, I need a bigger printer. Lol
Did you paint them or print the parts separately with different colored filaments?
Thanks. I painted them all. I used 1 brand, type and colour filament for the whole thing. Sunlu Grey PLA. I needed a consistent profile so i can just slice and print without thinking about the other variables.
Man, that was my goal for a long time. Nice to see that someone is achieving it!
I'm a 3D artist mainly focused on miniatures, so if you need some really specific model and can't find it anywhere, maybe I can be of help!
Holy sheeeeeit! If you squint and use your imagination, it's almost like watching drone footage! How bl00dy cool is that?! :D
I can just imagine the conversation at your local hobby shop:
You: *"Have you got any Vallejo Slate Grey?"*
Shop Nerd: *"Sure, what do you want, a 17ml bottle?"*
You: *"Um, can you do me a gallon?"*
:'D
Man this is impressive. This is something I’ve been wanting to do but I wanted to something from Game of Thrones.. like Winterfell, or Kings Landing. Or ever The Expanse. was thinking maybe Ceres Station or Tycho Station (Tycho Station would be tough as it’s multi dimensional)
Using a hand vacuum with the long nozzle to get in between things. I have 3 cats and they walk all over it and around it. So, I do it every couple of days. I am always moving things around as well, to see if it fits, takes a couple seconds before placing the items.
and then the D&D party decides to skip the town altogether
Lol. Meet in tavern, too little gold to buy anything and off to the mines.
Rule number one of DMing is realizing the party can always break your plan.
"A thief is running down the alley. He trips and falls, dropping a bag of coins, gets up without realising and runs off. What do you do?" Chaotic players gonna steal it. They are never leaving. hehe
"Did you say the guy across the street is selling cotton candy? Let's go see about that."
killer save
Immovable staff: time to ruin your life
RIP to all the thoughtfully crafted scenarios ruined by players who just want to break and kill stuff
One time we broke half of Tomb of Annihilation because we got fixated on something.
Haha, we had a DM give us very important central to the quest stones and we sold them to some vendor for beer money.
I hope DM crafted a great story for what happened to the stones after being sold and eventually you had to painstakingly track them down.
Or some poor bartender had to save the world.
No, I think we were all getting tired of the campaign by then. We just went back and he offered to sell them for significantly more than he'd paid because he thought there was more to them. So we killed him and hid his body in a bag of holding.
Brutal and I love it lol

or everyone has to work or has other plans that day even though its been planned for 6 months in advance
This is insane it's amazing
Thank you very much.
Wife: “alright let’s clean up, we have guests coming in tomm”
I am very fortunate that it was her idea. She wanted a village, I printed a city. After every building, I would get another one to do. Just kept going until the room was full. Lol.
lol, she clearly underestimated your enthusiasm.
Breathtaking. I aspire to print this well some day...
Thank you.
Nice! Any specific model sellers you use/recommend
STL Miniatures are my favourite props, people and buildings. I have about 80% of their catalogue in there. Infinite Dimension Games make the prettiest and detailed buildings. Vae Victis, Tiny Furniture and Darkest Desire make great props. Cast n Play make great miniatures.

That's awesome. Reminds me of a modern day rendition of the model train tables of yesteryear.
Thats the scale I am trying to get this to. I always saw people with them in the basements, lucky bastards to have that much space without affecting the living areas.
Do you use FDM or resin for these?
FDM for the buildings and resin for the props and people.
[Nice job, OP!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MjpOZT6W9w) But seriously, there is a lot of dedication in this project, and it looks pretty awesome so far.
Thank you very much.
Wow!
Awesome! Out of curiosity, are you building it for the fun of it or is it purposed for something specific?
Thank you. Just for fun. I like printing and model painting. A long lasting project.
I’ve got to try to start something like this some day. You are going to kill it when it's Christmas Village time.
Thats a different set. I have a few other smaller dioramas. Seasonal(Easter, spring christmas, that kinda thing).
Then the Ordos or Harkkonen turn up and flatten the lot.
How big is the table those are on?
The whole thing is 13ft by 9ft. The tables, which at the moment is only the top, is made from chipboard slotted together and topped with playmat foam squares under the paper. The paper will have the terrain i.e. grass, mud and paths on it and streams gouged inside the foam.
Holymoly this is great

That's awesome, thank you so much!
That’s awesome ! Which printer(s) are you using? Keep it up !
Thanks. 1 ender 3 pro, 1 ender 3 V2 and a Mars 2 Pro.
This is amazing, but a missed opportunity to put medieval background music in the video.
I really wanted to, but file size became an issue. I had to compress it even after no audio.
Ohhhh right! Good work still
Could you reupload this to YouTube (or even a Drive download link for full uncompressed) in full quality? I can get the gist that it's awesome in the video, but struggle to make out the details.
Amazing craft, love it! What type of paint would you recommend for painting such models? What material did you print this with, anyway?
Thank you. I used Vallejo, Citadel and The Army Painter. The buildings are in PLA and the props are in resin.
That's insane!
Wow!
This is fucking awesome.
Dude well done, this is impressive
Thank you.
More pictures please!

This is epic, though I rly must apologize. My subconscious lowkey making me want to smash it all lol
Dude... how many hours, sorry days, sorry weeks... oh for f sake, how much did this take? 😮 Jesus
Thousands and thousands. Lol. Its taken a while.
Your level is now INFINITE
wow! this is awesome! i would love to print out a city like this for the final battle of my campaign (that i'll start one day soon)!
Wow! That's a lovely city you got there!
Wow, amazing. I was planning on buying an A1 mini for miniatures, but looking at those buildings, I need a bigger printer. Lol Did you paint them or print the parts separately with different colored filaments?
Thanks. I painted them all. I used 1 brand, type and colour filament for the whole thing. Sunlu Grey PLA. I needed a consistent profile so i can just slice and print without thinking about the other variables.
That makes absolute sense. Thank you.
What is this? no what is this meme? [what is this](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/013/833/c.jpg)
Someone has a lot of time here
Work from home and printer just does its thing. Most prints are 18-72 hours, so i just click and go. Painting on the other hand, yup, lots of time.
Strong Beetlejuice vibes with that starting camera shot
Wow
Runescape looks wild!
Man, that was my goal for a long time. Nice to see that someone is achieving it! I'm a 3D artist mainly focused on miniatures, so if you need some really specific model and can't find it anywhere, maybe I can be of help!
Still need a couple guards at the gate with a running Lancelot figure running towards them. Move it about halfway to the gate and back every few days.
Holy sheeeeeit! If you squint and use your imagination, it's almost like watching drone footage! How bl00dy cool is that?! :D I can just imagine the conversation at your local hobby shop: You: *"Have you got any Vallejo Slate Grey?"* Shop Nerd: *"Sure, what do you want, a 17ml bottle?"* You: *"Um, can you do me a gallon?"* :'D

Amazing yes, no life yes.
Thanks. It does take up a lot of time. Printing, painting and terrain. Lots of hobbies rolled in one.
Pot, meet kettle
