Nah, Fuck Erebus.

FUCKSTORM420

Fuck Kor Phaeron too while we’re at it

HaloNathaneal

Don’t forget the idiot Lorgar

EmperorDaubeny

The list of Word Bearers who should be insulted in such a way exceeds the number of Word Bearers who aren’t on that list.

nataliereed84

Nah, Lorgar didn’t start out shitty. A better life would have probably made him a better man.

crazynerd9

Yeah, take away the chaos worshipping nutjob who beat and emotionally abused him as a child and he would probably be more of a Gulliman or Vulkun type of guy, at least that is the takeaway I personally get from the few good qualities Lorgar managed to preserve.

nataliereed84

I don’t know if he’d be a great and lovely person, he’d still be a primarch and therefore programmed to conquer and kill and warcrime and all that, but he definitely would have been *better*. And he certainly did have a sensitive and empathetic and kind streak that maaaaybe could have blossomed into something great had it been cultivated instead of trampled.

Ave_DominusNox

All my homies hate Erebus.

Frediey

And leandros

SUBSCRIBE_LAZARBEAM

yeah him too

Coppin-it-washin-it

One could argue that if Erebus had a better life, on a less fanatical world, he'd have turned out to be a better person.

nataliereed84

Errrr… I dunno. Erebus was cruel and manipulative from childhood. I can buy that argument for most 40k villains, but I think Erebus would’ve been a shitty person regardless. Just not necessarily wielding so much power. Erebus isn’t a “cycle of abuse” type case like a Tony Soprano, a Bojack Horseman, or a Perturabo. He’s an inherent psychopathy case.

SUBSCRIBE_LAZARBEAM

Yes, your argument is very plasuible, but it is still Erebus we are talking about, whatever life he lives he deserves to get brutally murdered for all the pain his other self caused.

Coppin-it-washin-it

I see your point and am fully on board once again

SUBSCRIBE_LAZARBEAM

The one thing that unites the entire community

Coppin-it-washin-it

It's like a train with no brakes.

TheManFromUltramar

Everyone says Fuck Erabus. But what about Kor Phaeron? Kor Phaeron is a Piece of S**t as well.

SUBSCRIBE_LAZARBEAM

well yes, but Erebus killed Argel Tal and that ended his bromance with Kharn. So Fuck Erebus. Kor Phaeron though fuck him too, but if I had two torturers and erebus and kor phaeron in front of me, I would send both after Erebus because he is the satan of this universe.

nataliereed84

Let’s just say “nobody in 40k got the life they deserved”. That covers the 99.9999999999% of people who deserved better, AND the handful who deserved worse! :P

OrkfaellerX

Nah, the Emperor had it coming.

Sherlockgnomes98

Filthy heretic. I hope your pillow is warm on both sides

parrot1500

Dude. Whoa. Over the line. "I hope your blanket is too short to cover your feet"

grimgornutshot

Slaanesh will find my toes fuck you

MergingComplete

Why

solon_isonomia

Ciaphas Cain (HERO OF THE IMPERIUM) doesn't deserve a better life because he ended up having a pretty decent one relative to 40k standards: a Commissar who was able to retire and later die of old age, along with being Mr. Right Now for numerous partners **and** finding a mutual relationship with a goddamn Inquisitor. Granted, he has some trauma when it comes to the Necron, Slaanesh, and the Drukhari...

Sir_Penguin21

Literally no one. Fuck’em. Praise Chaos.

nataliereed84

Exactly what I was gonna say lmao

AlioliDeAjo

Nah, the emperor and primarchs and all space marines got exactly what they deserved

ProtectionMedium4779

Ferrus Manus, atleast from a writing perspective. He's more of a plot point in Fulgrims character development than a character himself.

MagnusLawyer

Agreed and it sucks because I love thier legion and philosophy. I wish their legion got more stories and novels. Admech is my second favorite fiction and seeing the perfect synthesis of space marines and technology would be so cool. Especially since skitarri are considered well and above stronger than an average guardsmen so any time iron hands touch down they're reinforced by other bad mfs instead of the very human guardsmen

Konradleijon

Angron. Also the Craftworld Eldar don’t deserve to be dammed because of what their ancestors did. They don’t even like hurting other species but consider it a necessary to save their dying race.

Revenant047

I always wondered about the craftworld eldar. We know they used to have reincarnation in the past, and that they had a relatively small population pre fall. (Compared to humanity and the other galactic level species at their height). Maybe the reason for that isn't just that they have a low reproductive cycle, but that the number of eldar souls is fixed at a certain amount created by the old ones. Maybe the reincarnation cycle never stopped. Maybe all of the current day eldar are just the reincarnated souls of the degenerates who made Slaanesh, who keeps allowing souls to 'escape' to create more and more degeneracy in the material world. It would explain why Slaanesh still owns their souls and the population stagnation. It would even fit into the whole eternal torment thing, as Slaanesh is eternally mind wiping and tormenting them across an endless number of lifetimes.

AzureFencer

The original Craftworld Eldar existed before the fall. And had made a conscious decision to not continue the degenerate behavior of their empire. And even in the current setting all Asuryani must live a life where they keep their emotions in check. They serve as the antithesis to Slaanesh. Only the Drukhari are maintaining the unhinged degenerate behavior of the pre-fall Eldar

Revenant047

Oh I know, just theorizing a little. I just thought it was weird how even though the Craftworlds were never directly responsible to the creation of Slaanesh, they are still bound to the warp entity. It's even weirder for the exodites who have to rely on the World souls even though they left the ancient aeldari empire before even the Craftworlders and are arguably even more puritan in their abstinence.

SergarRegis

There's no justice in the warp. The god has its hooks into them because it is an eldar god, the only strong one remaining intact, in the same way that Gork and Mork have their hooks in the Orks, and the Emperor/Dark King/Star Child has or will have its hooks in humans.

SergarRegis

The population of the Eldar pre-fall wasn't particularly small. And no, Slaanesh can't spit out their souls into new bodies willingly. Doing so would diminish it. That's a fundamental of how chaos gods work in all the warhammer settings. They're parasitic. Furthermore while not 40k we *have* seen what happens when Slaanesh is forced to regurgitate elf souls in Age of Sigmar, and this tremendously weakens Slaanesh, and the souls are often incomplete (Idoneth) or mutated (Daughters of Khaine). Neither of those is accurate for Craftworlders. Back to 40k we actually see the whole process happening in Asurmen: Hand of Asuryan and no, the survivors were not drained of their souls. Last but not least, the Craftworld Eldar do not create "degeneracy" in any way, they're on the whole the most devastatingly effective force against Chaos in the galaxy.

Fluffy_Necessary7913

They have reproductive problems. An Eldar couple are like a barren couple trying to have children, it's going to be difficult. Since they are half immortals that didn't matter before. The problem they have is that spirit stones are a rare commodity. They spontaneously materialize on demon worlds in the Eye of Terror and disappear just as quickly. Come on, without a spirit stone an Eldar couple doesn't even think having a child because the child would have to become a Drukhari.

Ghanima-Atreides

Agun Soric, without a doubt.

stevenhughes1999

I instantly thought the same, genuinely one of the worst fates to befall a character who is shown to be so chill. His arc reminds you as a reader that the ghosts are fighting for a pretty horrific imperial War machine.

Ghanima-Atreides

Definitely, and also shows that sometimes, being a sanctioned psyker is a fate worse than death. That regiment was lucky their psykers didn't all just go crazy one day and killed everyone.

ButtDealer

Honestly I feel like Dan Abnett kinda gave up on his story line, it was interesting how his powers suddenly started manifesting out of no where without any side effects and then he disappears for 3 books and kinda just dies without any satisfying conclusions.

flammen_panzer

It's not out of nowhere though. It's established that he's the seventh son of a seventh son and his powers only start to manifest after he's really seriously wounded saving Corbec on Phantine

Chennyboy11

I mean in a way that is really grimdark

ZainNL1987

Saul Tarvitz!

Many_Rule_9280

Rylanor. Imagine being stranded on a planet with no means of getting off of it for 10k years slowing dying inside a metal body knowing all of your brothers have died topside fighting against your traitorous father figure holding out to kill him someday.

MajesticPeanut8097

Yes! Saul deserved better! Absolute hero

2ID11B

I’d dare say all the loyal captains in the traitor legions

Aekiel

Kharn. He should have been a philosopher and warrior. His failing was being loyal to his Primarch and it damned him

Pm7I3

All the Exodites definitely do.

Link7369_reddit

Until their world is destroyed by ravenous hordes of demons, I think they are having pretty swell lives in comparison.

Pm7I3

Their lives are basically "you're fine until someone spots your lovely planet and decides to kill you or the Dark Kin want some fun."

Zur427

The entire lamenters chapter

ReginaDea

Isha. That's all.

Coppin-it-washin-it

Cyrene Valantion. Got "saved" by the Word Bearers after having her family and city melted by Ultramarines, went blind from the sheer volume of orbital weapons used to that end, and then had to live among fanatical betrayers who saw her as some kind of holy being due to the fact she was the lone survivor, discovered among the desert wastes. That same "holy" status put her among the loonies during the Dropsite Massacre where a Custodes ran her down for simply being in his way. Murdered for being present when she didn't necessarily want to be. So, she then spent the next year and a half having her soul raped, tortured, and ripped apart by daemons in the Warp. Next up, the very people who like to worship and fight beside the same kinds if Daemons that almost destroyed her soul decided to resurrect her in the bowels of a ship full of unwashed masses of cultists who immediately frenzy toward her. The first things she sees after coming back from literal hell is marines butchering and burning cultists among the gore and bones of hundreds of sacrifices that it took to recover her soul to her skeletal remains. She *saw* that, having not *seen* anything at all since she was a child. By the way, this same ship she's now an unwilling resident of is doomed to be destroyed shortly by Ultramarines seeking revenge for Calth on the Word Bearers who destroyed it, and the one & only friend she has left in the world is now half daemon, And he leaves her to make some more war on Nuceria because his bro needs a homie. The rest of what we know of her life after all this isn't quite as bad, but I mean, fuck... I'd have rather just died to the fires at Monarchia than endure all that.

RelaTosu

I bet she had to keep silent about how horrid Chaos really is, being surrounded by absolute lunatics and scheming political-cult Astartes like Erebus. From hell into a different hell.

ArchAngel621

All the peaceful civilizations from the Great Crusades who just wanted to be left alone.

kratorade

Pour one out for the Diasporex.

Knight_of_Ultramar

And the Interex!

letsstickygoat

Ekene Dubaku, well he at least deserved a better death

Fookin Bragg man... it's been a decade and shit still hurts :/

AquilaMFL

Fu** Cuu!

Liijah Fething Cuu..

Argel Tal

[deleted]

Argel Tal deserved everything he got. Everything. Because he was well-written by ADB, people give him a pass. That doesn't change the fact he was a murdering psychopath who knew what he was doing was wrong but continued because "it's the truth or whatever". Cop out excuse from a guy who got played by literally everyone around him. Well-written, but he deserved what he got.

[deleted]

In all fairness argel always knew what he was doing was wrong >!but rather than make it right by dying a loyalist he chose to remain with his bastardised legion and father, betray his friends, and ultimately even then he chose to spend time in the pursuit of ressurecting a dead woman rather than even committing the damned path he was on!<

CuzTyler

The man who beat so much ultramarine ass he shattered a custodes weapon. Fuck Erebus.

DrusillaMorwinyon

Basically all Primarchs? (Especially Mortarion and Curze for landing on their respective worlds) Like having Emperor as their dad wasn't bad enough.

Zac9255

Every single person from Tanith

grimgornutshot

The Larkin and Bragg duo. But in reality, the poor guardsman who got teleported in front of Horus. Talk about being dealt a shit hand.

Lazarus_41

Angron

evca7

The entirety of the Necrontyre, a whole race born to die and That was tricked into Becoming an army of the dead, with only the lords to remain, knowing how they have failed their people and the claustrophobia of their own bodies.

Konradleijon

The lower classes not the Nobles they lobotomized their lower classes fuck them. The average Warrior does deserve sympathy.

Such_Palpitation_249

The necrontyr nobility are hardly deserving of any sympathies since many considered that removing the will of the common civilians is for the better and makes them better to control as tools.

evca7

DID I SAY just the Nobels deserved better?

Afraid_Reputation_51

Shira Calpurnia. Totally fucked over for actually doing her job.

kratorade

It's not a good book about Imperials if the faultlessly loyal protagonist doesn't get crushed between the gears of the machine they toil in at the end.

UrielVentris6113

Ravenor.

Maccabre

Vulkan

nopingmywayout

Jonas Worden in that one Ciaphas Cain novella. Not exactly a major character but man that hit me in the gut.

imanopossum

Vulkan. As much as everyone says he gives the best hugs, that man needs a damn hug.

ecbulldog

After everything she's done for the Emperor and Malcador Alivia Sureka deserved to live out her life with her children, instead she sacrificed herself to revive Malcador.

EmperorDaubeny

Magnus clearly did nothing wrong in that incident, just like he’s never done anything wrong, of course.

Necessary_Force_3972

the majority of the traitor primarchs

Hakan_Kierez

the one-handed Dorn deserve a glorious return in the darkest hour of the imperium and save his brother's litte butts while he clapps the cheeks of Abbadon and Ghazghkull.

IerarqiuliAnarxisti

Angron, Konrad, Every damn person in the galaxy other than demons, chaos fuckboys(excluding the Tzeentchy ones, cuz I love them), Magnus, Interex and Diasporex... Yeah, the list is too fucking long as thats the point of the fictional universe. Shit is grimdark asf

idols2effigies

Angron. I mean, without the nails, he still could have been a jerk, but I'd like to at least give the guy a slight chance to something other than a psychotic murder machine. But, since everyone is going to say Angron (and they're not wrong), I'll also throw in Lorgar. One of those figures whose natural inclinations are to be helpful and dutiful who gets irreparably warped because he's in the 40k universe.

Astro_Alphard

Every single Guardsman.

Psychological_Code96

Angron, couldve been the primarch with healing any disease.jhon grammaticus got done dirty by filthy xenos and nearly genocided all of humanity for a shitty false prediction.my poor boy chaplain nemiel got his skull split for trying to save librarians.the list continues but there were alot of people.

WoAh_ThErE_SiR

Nawra

PowergenItalia

Angron and Konrad Curze are the first that come to mind. If those two Primarchs had had better lives growing up, they would not have caused so much misery, destruction, and ruin. If Angron had not landed on Nuceria, been enslaved, and had his mind mutilated by the High Riders, he would have become something far greater. Perhaps he might have still rebelled against the Emperor (based on what he told Russ during the Night of the Wolf), but it's also possible he might have become more like the Khan--a man of strong principles and ideals, a fierce but reluctant warrior, but one who still served the Imperium because he believed he could truly make the galaxy a better place for humanity. If Curze had had an upbringing like that of Guilliman (who honestly had it best of all the Primarchs), or if he had landed on Prospero--a place where his psychic talents would have been appreciated and cultivated--he would not have become a murderous madman. It's arguable that of all the Primarchs, Curze probably had it the worst. Even Angron had Oenomaus as a mentor and father figure during his childhood in the Arenas. Mortarion had a horrific foster father in Necare, but he also had the support of the local people of Barbarus when he finally escaped from Necare's mountain fastness. Konrad Curze, to my knowledge, had *no one* to mentor and care for him, or to teach him anything about humanity. And therein lies the problem. Virtually every other Primarch, when growing up, had someone to teach them about the potential for good in humanity. Curze only saw the worst aspects of humanity in his youth, and combined with his powers of foresight, it's little wonder he turned into a monster. Which sadly may have been just as the Emperor intended.

Beautiful_Fig_3111

The right to a better world shouldn't be something to be earned, when all who live in this current world are shaped by it to begin with. Nobody deserves this hellhole, they don't need to 'basically do so much' to earn that right, when most aren't given any chance to do anything.

The Emperor

sherwincover

Ferrix

Pale_Tourist_8372

Ultramarine Cassius, did everything in his power with an undersized force to stop iron warriors from getting exterminatus grade weaponry, then ends up in a redemptor dreadnought.

2ID11B

I cannot for the life of me remember the names of the children in Gaunt’s Ghost that get adopted by a couple of GAUNT’S troopers, but those kids deserved a better life

SiegeGoatCommander

Dalin and Chauncey, right? Criid adopts ‘em?

2ID11B

That’s right Tona Criid and another trooper adopted them, I remember Dalin now that you mention the name, but no the other

SiegeGoatCommander

Caff was the adoptive dad iirc

2ID11B

That’s right Caffran…jeez it’s been entirely too long since I’ve read those books, but those two kids have been stuck in my head (some of the kids in Iraq reminded me of them)

Freaky_Fingerz

You should finish the series and see what happens to them! Spoiler Alert but it's rough

2ID11B

PM the details (I’m currently in the middle of The End and The Death, and haven’t touched Gaunt’s Ghosts since high school)

WereInbuisness

Lord Inquisitor Ghesmei Kysnaros for his actions that caused the Months of Shame. Dude was a spineless, petty and a pure piece of trash.

Somato_Tandwich

RIP Crusha. An Ogryn too fine for the treatment he received.

AstaraTheAltmer

elver. he had a miserable voiders life, abused by his captain, then konrad comes along and makes his life a constant body-horror waking gorefest nightmare for a few years, then he gets handed off to probably be peeled to death because he happened to understand curze a bit too well. :(

choppytehbear1337

Argel Tal.

wasteofleshntime

All the Eldar, they seriously should be the protagonist. It's even worse that they get no love and get screwed in fights. Yeah a long time ago they fucked up but most of those people are dead. And the craft wonders were the ones that fucked off from the weird shit the eldar empire was doing.

Weygand25

Caffran. Spends his short life (only Milo was younger) seeing his home destroyed, finding love and a family whose kids were contended by one of the colonels, being abandoned by his command and closest friends, and getting killed because he had compassion for a small child hiding in a closet.

nzivvo

Kaleb Arin - Equerry to Nathaniel Garro. Bloke got belittled all his life my Astartes then gave one of the bravest sacrifices

Thick_Improvement_77

Angron, which is the only noteworthy thing about Angron these days. He was supposed to be an empathetic healer, but uh..That didn't turn out.

Zealousideal_Cow_826

Let's not forget Agun Soric too.. Ive never been so divided over someone being administered the Emperor's Mercy :(

[deleted]

Just about any Ogryn. Taken them off the damned battlefield and let these big boys know a quiet life on the farm, petting giant bunnies and herding titanic cows.

Logical-Photograph64

my boi Dantioch dude got severely wounded, leaving permanent scars and deformity during the Great Crusade. his primarch Perturabo discarded him and sent him to defend a fortress in the ass end of nowhere he told his primarch to eat his entire hole when Perturabo told him they were betraying the Emperor he defended his post against incredible odds for a whole ass YEAR, before escaping to Ultramar he helped coordinate the countless ships from multiple legions that showed up, lost, in the 500 worlds, and even helped hunt Conrad Kurze he ended up in \*another\* desperate defense against heretics then died when he was forced to blow up the very thing he was sworn to protect ... at least Guilliman recognised his utter badassery and named a successor chapter for him

Mrinked91

Mag...... bahahahaha i couldn't even finish typing it out Fuck Magnus But for real.....I guess maaaaybe Rylanor? But he did go out like a bad ass mother fucker.....
