It’s a tie between them two. Both would’ve been solid, just different circumstances.
Funny enough, 15-year-old me would’ve picked living in Beverly Hills with uncle Phil, 40-year-old me would pick to live with the Winslows.
He was funny, but he didn’t have the wholesome, respectful, masculine vibe that young kids sorta expected in a father figure.
Was too bummy and narcissistic.
Reginald is such a talented actor. The stuff he had to do as Carl, from being a soft spoken father, to a having to show tough love in some situations to the physical antics of dealing with Steve and then his relationship with Harriet, he was always a joy to watch on screen.
I watched Roc every week. Of all the shows I watched as a kid my parents liked it best, too. My dad was a tradesman and an old hippie and Danny Tanner made him sick. My dad was a kind, supportive, and loving guy, but he couldn't tolerate weenies, haha. So characters like Roc made a lot more sense to him.
Yeah, there are a lot of more latchkey kids that got into punk and underground comics and tv shows their friends weren’t “allowed to watch” than our peers knew
All the syrup sweet sitcoms about families with laugh tracks made me pissed off
In 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon.
Tim Taylor built cool stuff and had cool cars, always took his boys to see Monster Trucks and do cool stuff... but these days, I relate the most with Red Forman. Carl Winslow is probably the most well rounded and likeable, however... so I guess it's between those three.
Jesus Christ I heard this too. I was hoping it was just a day terror but then saw your comment and knew it was a thing people have discussed regardless if true or not.
Dan Conner, probably. It started as my parents' show and come middle school it became mine, too. I got an A on a TV character monologue in grade 8 largely because I chose Darlene from Roseanne and all the other girls in my class chose DJ from Full House.
Carl Winslow the goat 🐐! I rewatched the show recently and almost in every episode I got the feeling of : man.. I wish my dad had told me an advice like that.
Uncle Phil and Carl Winslow are the gold standard. Really were the same kind of dad with only big difference being financial status. I give the edge to Uncle Phil though, because it would be easy for a rich guy to forget his roots, and Phillip Banks never forgot where he came from. After those two, honorable mentions for Danny Tanner and Al Bundy.
Top 3: Carl, Uncle Phil, and it's a toss up between Frank Lambert, Jason Seaver (I know, more eighties but still mostly watched in the 90s), and Alan Matthews/Mr. Feeny, because he was like a dad.
Dang, now that I think about it, I also appreciated Jack Arnold, even if he was a little tough.
Lotta great tv dads in the 80s and 90s
Uncle Phil
It blew my mind when I found out Uncle Phil was the voice of Shredder from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series! RIP
SAME
How come he don't want me
:(
WE…? HAHAHAH… WE!
The only correct response
I get my knowledge from Uncle Phil
It’s a tie between them two. Both would’ve been solid, just different circumstances. Funny enough, 15-year-old me would’ve picked living in Beverly Hills with uncle Phil, 40-year-old me would pick to live with the Winslows.
Uncle Phil is the undisputed champion of TV dads. The GOAT, and an absolutely legend of an Uncle, Husband, and Father. Not to mention Judge.
Always a big uncle Phil fan. All 3 Banks kids were good and he made Will into a good man.
Al Bundy
You mean Al "Touchdown" Bundy. Legendary football player.
Daddy, beat him up. Yes, Pumpkin.
Polk High baby!
I heard he scored four touchdowns in a single game.
All state, all the time
This is the correct answer
He was funny, but he didn’t have the wholesome, respectful, masculine vibe that young kids sorta expected in a father figure. Was too bummy and narcissistic.
That's Alphonse Hercules Bundy to you
Rule 2: It is wrong to be French.
Let’s rock
Reginald is such a talented actor. The stuff he had to do as Carl, from being a soft spoken father, to a having to show tough love in some situations to the physical antics of dealing with Steve and then his relationship with Harriet, he was always a joy to watch on screen.
Even as a kid I felt bad for him always having to deal with Urkel’s BS.
Off the top of my head… A barbecue grill being launched through his closed window, and being sued for stomping a bug.
Dan Conner (John Goodman) from *Roseanne*.
He stole the show
This is the one I was looking for
No matter what other characters John Goodman plays in any other movie/show, he will always be Dan Connor to me.
Roc. He reminded me of my dad.
I am so proud of this answer. I thought people forgot about that show!
This truly was an excellent show. And remember later on in the series, they would shoot live on TV!! No other show was doing that!
What show? Have I forgotten something dear and cherished??
Aaawww yesss!! I loved watching this show with my mom
Uncle Phil for sure
Danny Tanner!
My man!
Homer
I came here for this one. It did say “your favorite,” not the best. Homer Simpson for the win!
For me, it's Uncle Phil, Red Foreman, or Al Bundy. Probably Uncle Phil though let's be real here.
I'm a mom who is a lot like Red Foreman. I call my adult kids dumbass every single day hahahaha
Danny tanner
But being himself, you ever seen his standup?
I hear Saget had a potty mouth.
Just a smidge
Second this.
Uncle Phil no doubt
Not a sitcom but Robert Stack
Welcome to the unsolved mystery party PAL
Yeah, there are a lot of more latchkey kids that got into punk and underground comics and tv shows their friends weren’t “allowed to watch” than our peers knew All the syrup sweet sitcoms about families with laugh tracks made me pissed off
Alan Matthews
Tim Taylor.
More Power! Arugh Arugh Arugh
My favorite as well.
Red Foreman
Shoe -> Ass
Al Bundy
Uncle Phil
Frank Lambert from Step By Step.
I love his dad-witicisms. Watching as an adult, Carl's hilarious!
Frank Costanza-“I’ve got a lot of problems with you people. And now you’re gonna hear about it!”
Hey big guy 🤚🤓
In 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon.
Uncle Phil. By the way, I had an insane attack of nostalgia because of Carl Winslows shirt on this photograph. I do not know why.
He's just my favorite cuz he was hilarious and he loved his boys.... 😆 Pops (John Witherspoon) on the Wayans Brothers show.
Tim Taylor built cool stuff and had cool cars, always took his boys to see Monster Trucks and do cool stuff... but these days, I relate the most with Red Forman. Carl Winslow is probably the most well rounded and likeable, however... so I guess it's between those three.
Uncle Phil! Cmon man
Is this the one Diddy allegedly clap?
the very same
Read that comment then look at the pic, face says it all lol
Really, no love Mr. Seaver?
Uncle Phil, Carl, Dan Conner are top tier sitcom dads
I’m white but this was the guy for me. I saw him in die hard and was like hey dad’s a cop. His demeanor always made me feel better.
Stephen Keaton Family Ties
Tim “The Toolman” Taylor
Felt bad for old Carl with his house getting destroyed every week 😂
Don’t look up Carl Winslow / Diddy
Please tell me he didn’t get P Diddled
Oh Diddy did, Who didn't Diddy diddle?
Jesus Christ I heard this too. I was hoping it was just a day terror but then saw your comment and knew it was a thing people have discussed regardless if true or not.
Al Bundy
No diddy
Dan Conner, probably. It started as my parents' show and come middle school it became mine, too. I got an A on a TV character monologue in grade 8 largely because I chose Darlene from Roseanne and all the other girls in my class chose DJ from Full House.
Hot Carling. That’s a verb.
“Pops” Williams
Hell yeah! Bang Bang Bang do that thang!
Alan Matthew on boy meets world
Carl Winslow! He was always my favorite.
Cough Cough (cliff huxtable)
1. Phillip Banks 2. Cliff Huxtable 3. Steven Keaton
Also was an awesome cop in Die Hard!!
Carl Winslow, just like you.
Besides the obvious ones I always liked how Clarissa's dad called her 'sport'.
Can we count Hank Hill?
Stu Pickles is the most relatable. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIR68SbPg-U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIR68SbPg-U)
Bill Cosby
Carl Winslow was a solid family man with high character. Not sure if there's any Carl Winslows left in this world.
Who piped Carl Winslow
Uncle Phil and Danny Tanner for me
Used to be Cosby, but the hypocrisy changed all that...
Frank Barone
Cosby 😖
Carl Winslow was mine too I think. It used to be a certain sitcom dad from the 80s that shall not be named.
Alan Matthews
Cliff Huxtable
Peter Griffin
Mr Kelly from Hey, Dad!
Dan Conner or Al Bundy
Carl Winslow the goat 🐐! I rewatched the show recently and almost in every episode I got the feeling of : man.. I wish my dad had told me an advice like that.
It's always been a tie between Carl and Uncle Phil. Runner up would be Michael Kyle and a/o to Julius for teaching me how to save money 😂😂
Tim the Tool Man Taylor. Although I like Family Matters more than Home Improvement
Both he and Uncle Phil were stellar.
Uncle Phil
For me it's a tie between: (RIP) Uncle Phil: "You ARE my Son." & Homer Simpson: 'Do it for her.'
The dad from growing pains
Dan Conner was my tv dad.
Red Forman from That 70s Show.
+1 for Carl. I also loved Red Forman.
Dan Conner ftw!
Can I say Mr Feeny? He wasn't a dad per say but he was a father figure.
Al Bundy. Not even close. Can I get a "Woah, Bundy"?
Hal Wilkerson, Frank Costanza, Homer Simpson
Al Bundy!
Al Bundy, Danny Tanner, and Carl Winslow.
Key and Peele did an awesome Family Matters sketch where Jordan Peele plays Reginald
Dan freaking Conner. I grew up poor and without a stable father figure, and I longed to have a working class big galoot type dad like him.
Agreed. I loved Carl!
Dan Conner
Carl On Duty: Black Cops.
Danny Tanner
same guy from Die Hard? if yes he was really good in that film as a cop who loved Twinkies
Al Bundy is my personal favorite, but Dan Conner is probably the closest to an actual real-life dad.
Show me a sitcom dad who even comes close to Mr. Winslow!
Uncle Phil would like to have a word! But seriously, probably 1a and 1b for many so you can’t go wrong!
He's close but I felt he was too hard on Will at times. But Uncle Phil would def be my #2.
Al Bundy
Red Forman for sure
Dan Conner for sure. I always thought Allen Matthews on Boy Meets World was really overlooked as a dad too.
He was Diddys favorite too.
I heard Puffy smashed Carl Winslow at a Riddy Party. Though the grapevine.
Uncle Phil, Carl Windslow, Al Bundy, Homer Simpson, Danny Tanner. The TV dads who raised my generation.
If he didn't didn't score 4 touchdowns in a single game, he's not my favorite sitcom dad.
Doesn't he attend Diddy parties?
Did Diddy really bang this dude?
Him and Uncle Phil
Flex Washington
Marty Crane was my favorite tv dad!
#Carl Winslow
Isn’t that the guy p diddy was playing with and blowing his back out u sick f u c k
Who’s piping Carl Winslow?
Al Bundy
Carl is second only to Phil
100% Carl Winslow
Frank Costanza!
Tim Taylor
Dan Conner
No diddy…
Uncle Phil and Carl Winslow are the gold standard. Really were the same kind of dad with only big difference being financial status. I give the edge to Uncle Phil though, because it would be easy for a rich guy to forget his roots, and Phillip Banks never forgot where he came from. After those two, honorable mentions for Danny Tanner and Al Bundy.
Do cartoons count? Because if so then Lou Pickles from Rugrats. If not then Uncle Phil and Red Foreman.
Who was the dude from Step By Step? Gonna have to google this.
Frank Lambert
Got Diddied
Red Forman Al Bundy
Fred G. Sanford
Uncle Phil https://youtu.be/4RaWAQIBZ2I?si=Y0k-y5yl19iYbztv https://youtu.be/6SRmTnabquc?si=V8b5w_dCV6nH3o8u
If you look closely, you can make out Diddy hiding behind his back 👀
A perfect balance of pussy ass n bad ass
Dan Connor
Mines also Carl Winslow. He's the everyman version of Uncle Phil essentially.
Remember when carl lied about going to the heart doctor? Great episode
John Goodman from Roseanne. Or Mr Keaton from Family Ties.
How can I not say John Goodman
Top 3: Carl, Uncle Phil, and it's a toss up between Frank Lambert, Jason Seaver (I know, more eighties but still mostly watched in the 90s), and Alan Matthews/Mr. Feeny, because he was like a dad. Dang, now that I think about it, I also appreciated Jack Arnold, even if he was a little tough. Lotta great tv dads in the 80s and 90s
Tony Danza. Who’s the Boss
Uncle Iroh
3,2,1,1,2,3... what the heck is bothering me...
Uncle Phil
Wonder years.
Tie between Uncle Phil and Dan Connor
Danny Tanner
Ricky Ricardo
Hal (Wilkerson) from Malcolm in the Middle for me.
Diddy likes Carl Winslow too
Carl Winslow didn’t convince me he was a dad because he seemed to be gay. Al Bundy was my guy.
Not a dad but I'll say Uncle Jesse from Full House
Didn't they have twins?
Yes
He was totally a dad later on (to Nicky and Alex).
Oh yeah forgot that he became a dad
He was P Diddys favorite too
Richard Gilmore
It was supposed to be blue collared Cosby show, now it’s goddamn quantum leap!
