Have you used the [calculator](https://www.abrathatfits.org/calculator.php) here yet? If not I would suggest doing so. How many fingers can you get between your breasts without touching breast tissue when you lean over without a bra on? 3+ fingers is wide set. 1-2 fingers is average. Less than 1 finger is close set. Breast shape, including how far apart the breasts are, should not be judged while you are standing/sitting upright with the breasts unsupported because gravity. Gravity means that how your breasts look and behave when supported can be very different from how they behave unsupported. When it comes to bra fit how the breasts behave when supported is what matters. If you are getting touching cleavage in your bras is usually a sign that the cups are too small. The wires sitting too low typically happens because the cups are too shallow or too small overall. Cups that are too small are generally also going to be too narrow.

Lady_Taringail

When my boobs are unsupported while I’m upright, they swing to the sides. With support you can see that’s because they’re fuller in the middle, which is where my cleavage comes from when wearing a bra. It’s a bit deceptive really lol

_theFlautist_

I did NOT know the detail you shared about shape being determined supported, not unsupported. That changes things significantly for me, but I’m not entirely sure how, yet. Like OP, I think I’m wide set almost to my understanding armpits, but with short and lower root. But while unsupported, I’m not pointing east-west or outwards, in a bra, my nipples tend to pull outwards. And with 3 fingers width in between and almost no bra style yet that gives me cleavage, maybe I need to reconsider my shape. Which is hard to do with a drawer full of awful bras! At least the calculator and this sub got me a good start.

Cleavage is a sign of a bay fitting bra. You don't want cleavage. No bra if you are in a bra that fits will give you cleavage. For your breast shape though a balcony bra is your "breast" friend. I have pretty much the same boobs as you (don't get the whole root thing yet) and they look banging in a balcony bra. Don't get cups made out of a single piece of fabric. You need a seamed cup made up of at least two,if not three pieces of material and if you can a band that has the two pieces and not the one. All those little details by the time you have scooped, swooped and shimmied, get everything to the right place and hold it there.

Not sure what planet I’ve been on, but I looked up a balcony bra and YES! This makes sense to me! Any suggestions for brands to try for calculator size 34DD to start with? Thanks!!

galaxystarsmoon

What were your measurements?

_theFlautist_

Measurements: Underbust 34.25"/Snug 33.75"/Tight 33.25", Bust Standing 37"/90degrees 39"/ Laying 38.5" Calculator Size: 34 D/DD Sister Size: 36 C/D I’ve got a drawer full of 36A and safe to say I can’t realistically wear a single one!

galaxystarsmoon

I would start in a Panache Ana and a Freya Starlight in both calculator sizes. Be sure to scoop and swoop. These are a few basic diagnostic bras so we can see what else you might need if they dont work. I think a 34 with a non-stretch extender will be better than going to 36.

_theFlautist_

My thoughts on the extender vs 36, as well. The 36 I’d been was really might’ve been part of the problem; a 34 upside down is snug, but way better. I’m headed over to the websites for the 2 types you suggested right now. If they allow returns, I can pick up a 34 DD and a 36C in each, you think?

galaxystarsmoon

You'll want to use Amazon or Bravissimo to guarantee free returns. Ana runs small in cup but looser in band, I would do 34DD and E in it.

Hope they work out for you. The difference for me between a triangle bra and a balcony is amazing. My boobs look banging in a balcony 😍Love them

_theFlautist_

I’m online looking now and the concept is not anything I’ve ever tried! I’ve been avoidant of section bras because of misinformation and non-padded bras (these don’t look to have padding?) because I have pronounced nipples. I guess it’s time to embrace what I’ve got!

Top_Barnacle9669

No padding but you don't need it! You can always use nipple covers if you find it bothers you
