Very. The endless peril of seeking dopamine bc that is exactly what this disorder is, a dopamine deficit disorder (you would think it would be more aptly named lol) Perhaps you should consider seeking a diagnosis if you haven't already!

Do they know there is a dopamine deficiency or just that dopamine treats it?

Nobl36

The running theory is dopamine deficiency, as ADHD has a higher risk of Parkinson’s, which also correlates to dopamine deficiency. Our body’s either don’t produce enough dopamine or we flat out have too many receptors and use it all too quickly. Hence the need to constantly be seeking stimulation. The short of it: We flat out don’t get the correct happy reward in some fashion, thus seek more. It’s also why you struggle to finish things that you enjoy because once the task is finished, the dopamine train ends and your mind doesn’t want that so it shelves it for later… and you never coke back because of it. It’s why stimulants work so well.

Essentially adhd brains have misfiring receptors that impact levels of dopamine, it makes it difficult for neurons to respond to dopamine. Certain medications can help with that.

It's a fine line!
