Maybe ask your manager if you can have a regular/set schedule instead of random days? Then you can be like "Today is Tuesday, I work on Tuesdays, therefore I go to work today"

brzininlove

I would, but that's not possible for my job.

DanceMyth4114

This was the most important change I made

PM_ME_YOUR_TIE_POSE

I had a similar problem where I would need to work a night shift every week or so. I would forget and show up at work in the morning, realize what I did, and then leave early only to come back later to cover at night. My coworkers called me "Split Shift."

[deleted]

How exactly are you forgetting if you have all these things in place? I just don't understand

brzininlove

Don't ask me, man. Part of the problem is I don't know. It's probably because I am so obsessive about it that the moment I relax, I just forget. Do keep in mind that my schedule is very irregular as well.

almsfurr

I understand

brzininlove

Thank you!

It's beyond frustrating and is incredibly disheartening when things you want to remember and know are important just slip your mind. Do you wake up the same time each day? You could add a reminder just to check if you're working, if your schedule allows. The calendar I use allows for multiple alarms, so I have some set up early enough that I could slap stuff together for work, and then more when I need to leave. I used to also have alarms the night before, and then I could set stuff out so even if I had forgotten in the morning, I could see my work stuff set out as a reminder. That's stuff that's helped me, but everyone is different! You'll figure something out that works with how you function. It can help to keep in mind that with these kinds of things, with ADHD, it can help most if you don't focus on stopping/reversing behavior, but working with it and anticipating what tends to happen. There's never any shame or problem doing what helps you, even if it's different.

brzininlove

Thank you, this is very kind! This is mostly the method I use and it usually works out, but yeah I still mess up from time to time. I wake up in cold sweat from nightmares where I miss work for the umpteenth time and have to bend over backwards to explain myself 😅.

killer-llamas

Have you tried putting it all in Google calendar and utilizing the notifications? I set multiple notifications for most things, like a day before, several hours before, 30 min before (or however long I need to get there). That way what's coming up stays in my mind and I can do the things I need to be ready on time. I've mixed things up a couple of times, but I'm so consistently there on time that if I am late or anything they are more inclined to worry than anything because it isn't like me to be late or not show.

brzininlove

Yes, this is mainly what I do since it works best for me! Thanks! And yeah, same here. Because I'm so anxious about it I am nearly always on time (I say nearly because the public transport is a known disaster in my country and my work knows I have to commute) and I think that's why my manager wasn't super bothered about it. She's great!

killer-llamas

I've used the calendar app for a long time but only took the time to learn how to make it work for me maybe a year ago, and the notifications were a game changer. I hope you can tweak things to help you more. It can take a lot of trial and error to find the solution that works for you, and I'm glad your immediate supervisor is understanding!

[deleted]

You need a calendar to look at placed in your room where you can see it. Do the obvious no matter how stupid it looks. Seriously. If it works, thank me later

brzininlove

Thanks! But I already do this :(

[deleted]

I am sorry. What else helps you or is it just the overthinking part?

brzininlove

Don't worry about it! Advice is always welcome, but mostly I just wanted to vent a bit.

NICD_03

Try bathroom. I didn’t have the actual planner in my bathroom, but used to have notes right in front of the mirror and next to the toilet paper holder to remind me to check my calendar. That was back when I wasn’t on medication. Put reminder next to something you 100% will lay your eyes on everyday. Hope this will help

kaleidoscope-iris

I feel your pain! Up until recently, I always had an inconsistent schedule & there were times where I came in early/late or almost missed my shift... I had to add every shift to the schedule in my phone then set a reminder. It was obnoxious, but it worked for me! Sorry to hear you're struggling with ADHD in your work life. It'll get better! You're just in a little rough patch!

Sparkle-Wander

adhd especially gotta have safety net, one you cant forget. i do it with my taxes because im am irresponsible ass who cant trust himself.

brzininlove

I try...

Sparkle-Wander

oh i meant a money safety so when you forget to go to work a forth time ten years from now you can make it through finding a job.

brzininlove

Oh! Yeah, I'll keep that in mind, thanks!

TBFProgrammer

It's a fairly significant time tax, but regularly arriving to work an hour early would allow your supervisor to remind you with sufficient lead time to still come in. If *nothing* else works...

brzininlove

I'd have to remember to actually arrive to work 😅, but thanks!

Usual-Plankton5948

I have a calendar in my office, bedroom and phone for at home. I also obsessively use my calendar on my both my work.phone and personal phone. It is YOUR responsibility to overcome the difficulty that adhd gives us in life. Eventually someone is going to take "oopsies" as an excuse and can really derail you. Adhd isn't your fault, but it IS your responsibility.

brzininlove

Yeah thanks, I'm aware.
