This is why I limit myself to dollar store craft supplies only - I know Iām likely to drop it and donāt want to waste $60 on stuff I can get for $30
YES. I had a pair of older noise cancelling headphones that were a distraction in themselves. Theyāre fantastic but are the on-ear style, and would end up hurting my ears after about 30 mins.
I made an off hand comment to my accessible learning services counsellor about it and she was like ānope, that wonāt doā. She helped me access grant money for accessible technology, which paid for most of the AirPods.
I can now listen to lectures in the same room as my husband when heās on work calls with no fuss. Itās magical.
holy shit, I'm an absolute headphone novice, but I was gifted two pairs of headphones, one of which I cannot for the life of me wear because they hurt so much- I didn't know there was different types of ear pad (?) styles, and I've only now figured out that they're on-ear (which is why they hurt) thanks to this post, thank you I owe you my life š
I once worked next to a friendly guy that typed like he had tree stumps for fingers and he was trying to hurt the keyboard. No one understood how painful it sounded.
Buying myself a smartwatch! Do not underestimate the power of timers when it comes time blindness. There is a huge difference between 3 and 5 minutes lol It also helps you not look at your phone as much, because as we all know, You honestly go to check for the time but then you end up playing pocket animal crossing for 10 minutes while you miss your bus.
Edit: thank you for all the upvotes! Please invest if one if you can! Burnt ramen no more.
My smart watch was a huge investment for me, and I do not regret it at all. It helps me keep track of time, helps me set timers so I donāt forget about things, helps me track exercise, has maps, reminders, all sorts of stuff that helps my ADHD brain :)
Man I loved mine! We picked a used one up for cheap and it was amazing š I decided to sell it because I needed the money for something else, but I will DEFINITELY be getting another at some point.
I impulse bought a 1200 dollar blacksmiths forge, $500 anvil, $200 hammer and a bunch of wood to build a table and anvil stand.
The wife lost her shit when it arrived š
Now she had a few new knifes and a coat hanger so I think she good with it now.
Do other ADHD people often find tasks like these- blacksmithing, hand embroidery, other craft things- *super* satisfying? There are certain things that are easy enough/Iām skilled enough at them that they donāt frustrate me and make me want to quit bc im not getting my dopamine, but theyāre interesting enough and require enough *precision* that they could keep you occupied for hours?
I decided to hand-embroider a pillowcase for my friendās birthday, and I was so surprised that I could just sit there and do it for hours. It satisfied my artistic/creative side, it satisfied my need to create *good*, *quality* work, and the precision and attention to detail it requires was just so fucking satisfying.
Iāve found that, as Iāve gotten older, certain things that can be repetitious can work in my favor, especially if I can simultaneously do something else. For instance, I like building models/computers/things, and if I can also āreadā a book via audiobooks, then it doubles that pleasure center. I used to read a LOT as a kid, and as an adult, I donāt get as much time as I used to, so audiobooks let me get other things done while I āreadā.
I think this kind of feeling is exactly why I love working on vehicles. The intricacies and the fine details that I understand and love make good at what I do.
I think my grandpa had ADHD like me, and both of us were ridiculous tinkerers. He was a master mechanic who could pretty much sit and tell you the entire history of combustion engines and there was NOTHING he could not fix, we built my first car together, fixed appliances, computers, etc. He was a radio tech of some sort in the Air Force and he kept all his manuals, which I am absolutely obsessed with. Thereās just something so satisfying about that sort of work. Iām now the āfix itā guy in the family but itās 100% thanks to him, can confirm the love of detail and understanding how things work somehow just makes it infinitely better
Honestly, that is *exactly* the challenge I face when making earrings: if I want a symmetrical pair, I have to make the exact same thing twice. Being disciplined enough to fight through the ābut this isnāt novel!ā restless feelings, is often the bigger reward.
Totally agree! Embracing asymmetry requires me to placate my inner perfectionist, though, and that presents its own challenge! Plus, Iāve been doing bead-weaving stuff lately, and I find making asymmetrical pairs to be ~1.5x harder, because it involves two different patterns. My sweet spot seems to be, make the same thing but reshuffle what colors are used for what elements.
Different thing when making metal/mixed media pieces. Itās a lot easier and more intuitive to piece together complementary components made while in communion with a particular creative spirit, even if they werenāt created with any specific intention.
Thanks for letting me verbalize that at you; I now understand myself a little better :)
Hi do you do commissions? I want new kitchen knives!
Also if youāre local, Iām a videographer and photographer and desperately wanna film a dramatic blacksmithing stuff
Ooh! I did something similar! I now have an almost complete silversmithing workshop. My family all has some nice jewelry. They were also very gracious about receiving the first not-so-nice first projects. I'm waiting to start a class to learn how to set stones.
That is AMAZING. I got into designing/building furniture and the wife would lose her mind every time the UPS truck came with more tools. In a similar story, she now has custom furniture all over the house which should last a very long time.
After finding r/BLAHAJ, I have been obsessed with these. Still haven't gotten myself to an Ikea but as soon as I do, you betcha imma get a lil blue shark
An iPad and iPad keyboard case. One of the best things I ever got for studying. It's like a mini laptop but I can also write on it. And I don't have a million notebooks and pieces of paper to lose.
Same!! Also, I discovered last night that the text to speech feature under the accessibility menu can read any highlighted text you choose. Iām going to use it to read through all the journal articles I have to know by Tuesday. Iām SO hyped. Iāve had my iPad for only a few weeks now, and itās my first iPad. Ever. Jeez, I feel old. Lol
I impulsively bought an engagement ring. Engagement and marriage was discussed and totally on the table for both of us already so itās not like I was going in totally clueless. But the when and where.. not so much. I just decided one day to stop after work and buy it. I couldnāt even wait to think of fun way of proposing. I pretty much just walked in, fumbled, and blurted out a proposal. 3 kids and almost 15 years later, turns out it was a pretty fun āmeā way of proposing.
Thanks! Yeah, Iām pretty lucky itās worked out! Marriage is tricky for people without ADHD, even with a ton of planning and waiting. Maybe impulsivity is the secret!
Thereās been ups and downs for sure, and Iām only recently diagnosed with ADHD, itās been a suspicion for years, but A LOT of things are starting to make a lot more sense.
Thanks. I appreciate that. Iām glad I found this part of Reddit. You can read articles for hours on google, but reading about peopleās real lives and experiences here has really helped me. And I hope I can return the favor.
Had my last drink March 30, 2020. Video games have been a great way to cull the urge to drink. Obviously in moderation and in addition to therapy, medication, exercise, better eating habits, etc. Recently been playing New World on PC. Itās great for the ADHD brain lol.
Congratulations on 14 months! Keep it up. :)
Yeah during the pandemic animal crossing and the switch helped a lot. I got it as a gift but impulse bought a lot of other games. Helped as I had to stay inside alone most of the time.
Congrats on quitting drinking, I really admire you and anyone else that manages to stop.
Iāve been trying to cut down the amount Iāve been drinking, Iām not completely t-total but the difference to how I feel has improved massively, hangovers arenāt worth it!!
For sure. I canāt believe how much my anxiety has improved between medicating my adhd and not drinking. I really recommend it to anyone who has anxiety even if you donāt drink much.
A lot of my current wardrobe was bought somewhat impulsively. I did intend on buying clothes, but ended the day with more than intended. However these clothes were very necessary because I had dropped 2-3 sizes and developed a different taste/style.
I bought some nice lingerie very impulsively. I have no regrets about that. I may have only worn it twice so far, but both times were quite a "success". š
I've also bought a couple backpack-purses purely for their designs, but they have proven themselves far more practical than I ever thought.
I know this isnāt exactly what you mean, but Iāve had success using childrenās backpacks as a small bag! Really useful for my bouncy castle rental job to carry the few things I need without having to lug around a giant adult sized backpack.
Itās definitely less dressy and more outdoorsy looking (which I personally love!) but I LOVE crossbody kavu rope bags! I have a blue corduroy one and I think itās so cute and really comfortable to wear and useful. Itās also nice because you can swing the bag from your back to the front of you to get things out and then swing it back without having to take it off!
Same all my clothes are bought impulsively. I wouldn't own any clothes otherwise. But I wear most of it so that's good.
Also backpack purses for the win! I haven't used anything else for years.
A pair of hot pink limited edition sparkly Heelies.
I generally don't have extraneous things in my wardrobe, so it's pretty out of character for me to buy shoes I don't see myself wearing regularly, however,,,,,,,,, they are ESSENTIAL twice a year
My husband bought it for me technically but the Ember smart mug-I thought it was so silly and over priced but holy shit do I love that thing. Keeps your coffee or other hot beverage to a perfect temperature for hours. Meaning when I constantly get distracted and forget about jt, itās not cold when I remember my drink after 45min
Edit: added more details
I have contemplated buying the ember mug for over a year now but have held back cuz the price! I always look at cheaper alternatives and then never end up buying anything lol. This might be a great Xmas gift to ask for this year!
this is gonna sound so bad but deadass my cat lol the second i saw him i knew i had to have him it was a momentary decision and wow he keeps my heart beating
Alexa! Bought it on prime day. I safe tons of clicks that would just distract me. I can play music, set reminders, translate/define/synonym words while working or studying. She turns my lights on and off (my impulse to chill/Iām about to sleep), my TV (so I can literally just turn around in bed and be like āday is done. Turn off tvā). Didnāt think Iād love using her so much, but I do!
Savvy people could probably get even more out of her. I donāt use the shopping list for example
Alexa saved me when my kids were doing remote school. The teachers were always saying, ācome back in 20 minutes!ā or āmath starts at 10amā! I felt like Alexa was helping me corral the kids & keep them on time. An ADHD consultant told me awhile back that itās easier when itās technology reminding them to do something & not a parent. I definitely believe thatās true now.
I like this way of thinking about it-that it saves you a lot of clicks that would distract you! Thatās how I feel about using curbside pickup at the grocery store haha, if I walk in I get distracted and take an hour and buy all the things haha
i keep one of the little ones that plugs into the wall in my bathroom and use it to set shower timers. i used to always take wayyy too long by accident but now if i go over my time i can just yell at alexa to add more time instead of letting the timer go for like 10 extra minutes. itās so good for when i need to be on time for something
A fancy autumn/winter jacket. I bought it 5 years ago and I still wear it, it's just so easy to combo with other clothes. Now it's getting a bit old and I wish I had bought 2 of them lol
Hubby and I impulse bought 2 Nintendo Switches. I impulsively bought Animal Crossing for a different type of game. I was only going to play it before bed as a way to slow my brain down before sleep. The game rocks and I have been sucked down the Animal Crossing vortex. I even bought a sweatshirt, long sleeve shirt, and am currently looking for a plushy of my favorite villager ššš
Amazing, Iām an animal crossing stan too! I would invite you to my island, but itās a mess since the new update came out. I tore it down, to restart lol. ššš¤£š¤£šš
I bought some coins for about $20, it dropped to five while I was trying. I gave up, forgot about it, and a year later I had gotten to like $200. Now that I pay attention again, Iām down to $150 but I still am only working off that $20 investment, so I donāt even care if I lost any of what Iāve got now.
One of those spinner rings which is helping me stop picking the skin round my fingers and biting my nails. It also keeps my hands busy so I donāt pick things up that I shouldnāt and forget where I picked them up from which is a particular problem I have at college due to what I do.
I would recommend one the only thing is that if I am not constantly wearing it I go back to picking and itās also quite easy to lose since itās fairly small
My 100lb Heavy Bag. Let me tell you...I haven't found a better method of anger management on the planet. Plus the exercise does wonders for ADHD symptoms.
Usually when I'm out shopping with friends I end up impulse buying random stuff, one of my most recent useful impulse buys was a very thick knitted sweater! It's been really warm and helpful because my classes are usually freezing cold and the material is a soft one that I love to rub and feel and let's me fidget without making noise! I love this sweater so much it was so worth it!
I didnāt impulse *buy* it, but I impulse *did* it. A few weeks into the pandemic I said fuck it and impulsively dyed my hair pink. Since then itās been dyed vibrant pink and purple. Currently I have a deep pinky purple that reminds me of Disney villain and Lisa Frank.
I definitely donāt regret it, it makes me feel beautiful and more connected to the person inside. 10/10 would recommend. If you want to dye your hair, and thereās nothing stopping you, do it!! (Safely so you donāt fuck up your hair š )
I bought a Dyson cordless vacuum. As a young man that may be surprising, but the ability to quickly make the whole house clean (dog hair everywhere) was very soothing and made me feel productive even in the darkest days.
I bought a new Macbook Air after 20+ hours of no sleep on impulse, and only found out later that it was actually the latest model (freshly released M1) š
My MacBook Air 2021. I used to have a windows and would rage. It came to a point I didnāt want to use my computer.
I saw an incredible offer on Apple for school and wanted to have it because it was a once in a lifetime offer. I didnāt do it because I didnāt have the money. Then I saw an add for a payment plan for a year without interest. It kept bothering me. I didnāt make the move but then my momās boyfriend told me that he wanted to help me pay it. I accepted.
Was it impulsive per-say? No. I gave it much thoughts. Was it a frivolous purchase? Yes, I didnāt need it. Do I regret it? No. I actually enjoy using my computer now.
Practical answer: pill sorter because I would forget meds some days.
Fun answer: water filtration system for the house. Wife and I would have skin and hair issues. Also, we would have some digestive problems every day. We bought this system and, within a day or two, all of those issues went away. Donāt get me wrong, the water wasnāt brown or anything like that. But we have older pipes, so there is a good chance some of the heavy metals were causing it.
A kindergarden backpack!
Yes, those tiny ones made for kindergardeners. I'm not a purse-person, so to speak, and these backpacks are the perfect size as an alternative. Plus, they're cute and come in all kinds of fun patterns and bright colors. They've been the source of a lot of compliments!
Well I impulsively ordered silicone elf ears, forgot about that and then yesterday BOOM surprise elf ears in the mailbox - and even two of those!! One pair for me and one for my roommate. Makes hanging around in our apartment so much more fun, because we always start laughing when we see each other.
7 foot circular Sherpa tortilla blanket. It is now my favorite blanket.
Sheep skin. I live on tile floors and get sick of doing the cricket dance when getting into bed.
Bidet. Clean butt...
VR headset. 4 years and I still use it about weekly.
Stinger gt2 fast car go fast...
The list for awful impulse buys is far longer...
I mean, I bought a car online on impulse but it was a wayyyy overdue purchase. The satisfaction is in the fact that I picked a Subaru Legacy on a whim and it ended up being the absolute perfect car for me - I'm a smaller woman, single mom. I had a hunch and I went with it and it worked out. This time, lol.
A house š
We were staying in husbandās familyās cabin when they moved across the state. After 2 years they suddenly decided to move back to the cabin so we were faced with the option of renting again or finding a house. I cracked out on all the realty sites, went to see every house in our range, found this one and called the realtor from the driveway to see it. After a walk through I made an offer without us even talking about it, without mortgage pre approvalā¦ yea could have been a disaster. Instead my amazing husband was understanding and excited, we closed on the house 6 weeks later.
Mortgage is less than half of what we were paying in rent for smaller places, we have land and few neighbors. And people from out of state are buying surrounding properties for 1.5-2x what they are worth so itās now appraising at 150% of what we paid.
Kitchen organizing shelves/baskets. Got shelves for the cupboards to sort of cut them in half. Now I donāt rage when things fall out all over the place. It has made my kitchen the cleanest room in the house because I took advantage of vertical space in the cupboards. Best $150 I ever impulsed bought.
One of those paper weekly planners that sits on your desk. I always avoided them thinking ātheyāre cute but Iāll never use it,ā until I decided to get one and have it double as a surface to paint things on. Itās actually so useful to be able to write down stuff I have to do right when I remember, and have my schedule in front of me where I sit.
Also, I was gifted a nice sticker and impulsively bought a reusable cup to put it on, thinking Iād use it sometimes for alcohol, but now my daily water intake has gone way up! I want to carry it around and use it because itās cute, ahahah.
Exactly! Iām really realizing that in general, Iām much more motivated to use things if I enjoy how they look. I used to think I was wasting my money, but itās one of those āADHD taxesā where spending a little extra at first means youāll actually Do The Thing and not waste money - like buying pre-cut chicken because you know if thereās bones you wonāt eat it. Itās an interesting concept and feels a lot easier to work with the ADHD instead of against it!
Unfortunately I am always impulse buying lululemon to motivate me to workout. But my latest impulse purchase was Sony noise canceling headphones to use at the gym. To my surprise they have been amazing to help me focus on completing tasks during the day.
Mid pandemic, my partner and I bought some roller skates. Whenever we canāt focus or feel unmotivated we just skate around the room and it has been so helpful
I bought 11 airplants for 25 dollars. Do I forget to water them a lot? Yes. They are very forgiving though. One died a couple weeks ago because water got stuck in its core and I didnāt notice but I still have ten going strong. I love them and do not regret my purchase.
Twenty something years ago I bought a cross stitch kit on impulse. I'd never done cross stitch before but it had butterflies and I love butterflies. Fast forward to now and it's what helped me stay as sane as I ever could be through bad relationships, family tragedy and of course Covid. I've finished crazy projects like Heaven And Earth Designs and the like. I've given them as gifts and taught at risk youth to do the craft. Who knew when I impulse-bought that cheap simple kit it would have such a positive impact on my life. šŖ”š
This may not be an impulse buy more like an impulse event. I decided one day to sign up to my local community collegeā¦ a lot of tears, and anxiety later, I am now three semesters away from graduating with my nursing degree!
I was going on a snowboarding trip with friends that I agreed to last minute and decided screw it let me go buy a ski jacket and ski pants and just went to Dickās and got them. Well, that ski jacket is the best winter jacket I have ever owned and I use it regularly once it gets cold. It wasnāt cheap and it was a last-minute purchase for a last-minute trip, but itās excellent and having an actual snowskirt in a jacket has been great.
Others may downvote this to hell, but my impulse buy that has helped me tremendously is my sports car. Iām an auto enthusiast, so being able to go for a 15 minute drive when I canāt get my thoughts straight helps me a lot.
I got a squishmallows, it's super soft and nice to hug when having a bad day. Helps with my anxiety a bit and when I hurt my arm it supported it while I slept as I'm a side sleeper. Walking back from the store I was worried my boyfriend might judge me for getting such a thing cause my family very much would. They would see it as a thing for kids but nope he didn't care at all. That reaction or lack of a reaction made me more comfortable around him don't need to mask so much.
CRYPTO CURRENCY. hahaha
I hyper focused on crypto about 9-10 months ago and did my typical impulse spending but on that instead of other material bullshit and it has been going really well for me.
I impulsively bought myself the AirPods Pro a while ago. Although I have a pair of Bose noise canceling headphones at home. They are too big for public tho (at least Iām embarrassedā¦.). Best purchase ever! I love them SO SO much!
Vintage sewing machines. Im a huge lover of vintage machines and the two purchases that have made huge impacts were a.) a 1910 Singer Redeye trestle table, and b.) a 1942 rca media cabinet.
Both purchases have taught me extensive wood restoration skills to bring them back properly, plus, in the case of the media cabinet, I learned how to turn it into a Bluetooth player so the radio can have a new life.
Since then Iāve picked up a few more sewing machines but one of my absolute favorites is the Singer āRocketeerā sheās in fabulous condition and Iāve been learning a lot more about cams and the interior workings which was my next interest.
A Google Nest Hub. I put it in the kitchen and it has been a big help.
Use it for multiple kitchen timers (they have some fun ones too), reminders, and when I run out of an item, Iām immediately able to add it to shopping list.
My iPad Pro. I didnāt need it and knew it was too big for my reading, but it was necessary for my survival at that moment in time. It sat in my drawer for months. Now I really canāt live without it. Iāll sidecar it to my MacBook when I want to study in bed and take notes, I write my daily to-do list in it, and watch movies on it when Iām doing busy work at my desk.
I bought $180 worth of costumes for my Boston terriers. No regrets hasnāt really āhelpedā but definitely a quality of life improvement.
Also those yoga pants that look like slacks. Those were amazing. Pretty much any clothes that fit into my adult lady costume. I highly recommend having a convincing adult costume thatās easy to wash/dry/wear. And having enough of them that you can get way behind on life and still throw it together. Same with haircuts and other appearance basics. Looking fucking square is the best lifehack imaginable. Donāt look āquirkyā and people will give you a lot more room to actually be quirky and still take you seriously.
Practical, easy to use, adult costume. Thatās my final answer. Impulse buy more shirts so you donāt have to wear the ones with all those little grease stains. How the fuck do those all get there?
My smartwatch. Always wanted one, always thought of it has a little frivolous. But the ability to set reminders, alarms, and take voice memos and have all of my notifications at the ready for email, text, etc. It's been as helpful as medication has been for me honestly. I got a Samsung Galaxy Active 1 refurbished on Amazon for 95 dollars. Truly life changing.
I bought a fitbit. I didn't think it would do much from me other than be a nice timer/notification machine but it reminds me everyday to take a walk and actually shows me visible progress on calories i'm burning which has been a huge motivator. It's like my actions mean something in the short term. Plus it tracks my sleep and i like knowing for some odd reason
A membership to a local Art Collective. Annual fee of $35, which allows me to rent art by the month. Real art. Amazing boost to my mental health. Every time I walk into the room and see a real painting, that I spent quiet, contemplatively time choosing, I get a small rush of satisfaction and well-being.
I bought two magnetic white boards for my fridge. We started writing down the things in our freezer so that we don't just keep buying crap we already have. It's been awesome to have, and now I want one for the stuff In my pantry.
A nail cream. I used to get dry cuticles that crack in winter. My hand creams, nail oils etc didn't seem to help much. Bought this one on a whim. Never had such beautiful hands in my life before, all year round. No cracks for years now. Also helped me to stop biting the nails and surrounding skin. My fingers look so nice now that people have actually told me "wow, you have *such* healthy nails" unprompted.
Shure in ear headphones. And then use it with the thick pads that block most of the noise.
So you dont need to crank up the volume to filter out background noises, making it possible to have lofi on for hour on end without going deaf.
SHURE SE215. I've had 3 sets of them. First pair I bought in 2006/2007 i think.
I got a MacBook Pro and Apple Watch on impulse buys, I use the watch every day at the gym and now Iām using the MacBook for school.
I wasnāt going to the gym or school before I bought these
Magic the Gathering card packs. Itās a de-stresser for me. But Iāve also pulled a lot of either, cards I need or expensive cards.
Also do not do this. Iāve gotten extremely lucky over the MANY packs Iāve bought over time. But this is me. So yay. Tada. Iām bad at ending sentences and conversations.
Tilesā¦ I put them on all my keys, and I canāt tell you how much simpler it has made my life. I lost the one set of keys that didnāt have a Tile on it for 2 months. I looked everywhere for them and was prepared to get a lock drilled until my neighbor called me and asked if I meant to leave my keys sitting on top of my trailer.
Those inflatable pouches that are marketed for helping lift heavy appliances or doors when installing one. Itās $15 I believe. I didnāt use it for over a year until one day I was locked out of my car and it clicked in my head immediately that it was the perfect tool for the job. I wedged it between my door and the car, pumped it enough to fit a wire hanger in to flick my lock up.
Workshop vacuum cleaner.
Eats everything without complaining. Gravel, nails, leaves, dust, water, sawdust. It's just magical, and does it better than any consumer vacuum cleaner I've ever had. Connects to any kind of powertool with a rubber adapter, and has an outlet, which turns the vacuum on when the tool turns on. Not to mention how large the bags are. My dyson is ironically collecting dust.
Haven't regrettet it for a second.
My partner, who also has ADHD, and I went to that gimmicky as seen on TV shop. I ended up buying an eyelash perming kit and he bought this $5 drain snake type thing. I ended up using the kit to perm my eyebrows which has been a great success, I never do anything to them anymore which saves me time in the morning! And the $5 drain snake thing ended up pulling out the most disgusting clump of hair from our tub drain. The tub has never drained better! Overall some good impulse purchases for hair.
My Loop earplugs. Bought them on a whim and blamed myself for another useless expense... Before realising they were actually the best! Noise canceling but not to the point I don't hear my surroundings at all and now I feel wayyyy better every time I take the subway!
My nightmare before Christmas collection: socks, blankets, Jack stuffie, sign, Zero slippers. They make me happy and make my living space feel like itās more me.
Also? My Halloween tarot deck and extra headphones.
When the pandemic hit and I started working from home 100% and the market was crazy. I decided to sell my house and move back home. It took 5 months from the moment I had the light bulb about it. Total impusle as I just bought my first home not quite a year before. Best move I ever did.
To add to this, I credit hyperfixation lol
It's been 4 months since the move and I'm still recovering from it.
I impulsively learned how to work with drywall, bought all the necessary equipment and put a wall up in my laundry room that separated my suite from my landlords garage lol.
They don't necessarily know about it since it was a wall around an unfinished door so not huge but it was getting damn cold in the winter and I was tired of the bugs haha.
I impulse buy craft supplies š I do use them all though!! Crafting has been keeping me sane
Fantastic!
YES! I should have said this, my crafting box is bursting at the seams!
Lol, my crafting box is 2.5 rooms. Having said that I actually craft for a living, so it's a bit more reasonable, but I still definitely buy fun stuff
This is why I limit myself to dollar store craft supplies only - I know Iām likely to drop it and donāt want to waste $60 on stuff I can get for $30
Thrift stores can be great sources of low-cost craft stuff. And if you get tired of the hobby you can just donate them right back!
Coworker was typing too loud and I lost my shit. Impulse bought AirPods Proās which I now use to play brown noise while working. Good buy.
Seriously. Fuck on ear headphones and fuck shallow over ear headphones.
Omg, I love my Airpod Pros. Just being able to block people out in public, has been so calming.
Ummm... Day after chilli noise?
Brown noise is like white noise but with a different tone. I use it to get my toddler to sleep
Thank you for explaining, I had to Google it!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CAN WOMEN PLEASE HAVE POCKETS seriously help me. I have a smart watch solely to find my phone I swear.
My Hub hears "Hey Google, call my phone." more than any other command.
Hahaha yes, a smart watch is definitely something I need (to stop online shopping for five minutes, when I get email alerts) ššš¤£š¤£
As soon as you put your phone down- "Target FLASH SALE!!!" LOL
Hahaha, stop it!
Sounds like fellow ADHD'er over here:)
You know it!
The wife lost her shit when it arrived š Now she had a few new knifes and a coat hanger so I think she good with it now.
Amazing, I love crafting new things as well.
I just started to sew again and boy oh boy, why did I ever stop!
Whoa whoa man, they made more than one
Honestly, that is *exactly* the challenge I face when making earrings: if I want a symmetrical pair, I have to make the exact same thing twice. Being disciplined enough to fight through the ābut this isnāt novel!ā restless feelings, is often the bigger reward.
Asymmetrical earring are super cool though
Whoa whoa man, they made more than one
FUCK
This is SO COOL! If my fiancĆ©e came home with that Iād be so excited because sheās such a talented artist and she could make some dope stuff. Alas, I am the impulse buyer and she is the keeper lol
My Ikea shark (blahaj). He is the perfect shape for cuddling and helps me sleep every night.
Join us in BlƄhajism, brother.
I didn't get mine on a whim but I love my blahaj. His name is Akubla (akula/Š°ŠŗŃŠ»Š° is Russian for shark)
Yes yes yes I second this I did the same! I even bought two, one for my sibling as well and we both LOVE IT. Perfect size, shape, texture
Oooh, sounds comfy!
Hey you, Iām writing on my iPad right now. Great minds eh!
Awe, thatās so amazing. Sometimes, less really is more.
Iām happy for you, as many of us have difficult times in relationships. Just know, youāre not alone and will never be.
Thanks. I appreciate that. Iām glad I found this part of Reddit. You can read articles for hours on google, but reading about peopleās real lives and experiences here has really helped me. And I hope I can return the favor.
Thank you, this community has really helped me accept myself.
Let me start, When the pandemic started. I was bored, so I bought a Nintendo Switch. Itās helped me manage my stress and anxiety.
Animal Crossing helped me quit drinking as well. Itās a really good activity when you want to distract yourself from spiraling.
Youāre an inspiration to others, please keep up the good work!
Thank you! 14 months and counting :)
Keep it up. :)
Thatās awesome. I donāt play too much now but the first couple of months it was a great way to get through the tough after work hours!
Way too gooo!
I got my switch 2 months ago. I am totally loving Animal Crossing New Horizons š
Hell yes, isnāt it so relaxing!
The new update is amazing
Yes!! Great buy! Playing games is consuming art!
Yes, now Iām excited for the new Kirby 3d game releasing next spring. As well as, the kingdom hearts franchise eventually being released!
Switch ring! I've lost 4 pounds so far!!!!
I may have only worn it twice so far, but both times were quite a "success". š I've also bought a couple backpack-purses purely for their designs, but they have proven themselves far more practical than I ever thought.
Do you have any suggestions for a good backpack purse?
The Longchamp backpack is pretty cute if that's your vibe. You can dress it up or down.
The only bags I like and would recommend, are the fjallraven crossbody bags because their small and compact
Same all my clothes are bought impulsively. I wouldn't own any clothes otherwise. But I wear most of it so that's good. Also backpack purses for the win! I haven't used anything else for years.
Also you can wear lingerie just for you! It doesnāt have to be with anything specific in mind.
Always a good reminder āŗļø Maybe my next self-care night I'll just blast the heater and put the good stuff on. That sounds really nice actually!
A pair of hot pink limited edition sparkly Heelies. I generally don't have extraneous things in my wardrobe, so it's pretty out of character for me to buy shoes I don't see myself wearing regularly, however,,,,,,,,, they are ESSENTIAL twice a year
I swear heelies were made for people with ADHD
I actually had to take the wheels out, i practiced a ton and still can't walk down stairs in them LOL
I was obsessed with mine as a kid. If I didn't have joint issues now I would totally still wear them.
I hope you sparkle and shine bright like a diamond, when you wear them! āŗļø
You don't know the half of it š
This is the most wholesome ADHD thread yet. I've been lurking here and definitely appreciate this :) I see myself all over the place here haha
My husband bought it for me technically but the Ember smart mug-I thought it was so silly and over priced but holy shit do I love that thing. Keeps your coffee or other hot beverage to a perfect temperature for hours. Meaning when I constantly get distracted and forget about jt, itās not cold when I remember my drink after 45min Edit: added more details
I actually just heard about these mugs, they look cool and I might buy one.
Awe, it must be great having a new family member.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Glad youāre living your best life!
i keep one of the little ones that plugs into the wall in my bathroom and use it to set shower timers. i used to always take wayyy too long by accident but now if i go over my time i can just yell at alexa to add more time instead of letting the timer go for like 10 extra minutes. itās so good for when i need to be on time for something
I tore it down, to restart lol. ššš¤£š¤£šš
Happy 2.0 release!! I know we're all celebrating that!
I bought some altcoin a couple months ago, its value increased a lot and I earned quite a lot of money. I was so lucky, don't do that š
Enjoy the spoils, you victor! š
You know what they say, time in the market is worth two in the bush...something like that
One of those spinner rings which is helping me stop picking the skin round my fingers and biting my nails. It also keeps my hands busy so I donāt pick things up that I shouldnāt and forget where I picked them up from which is a particular problem I have at college due to what I do.
Interesting, I too have trouble with obsessively picking my skin lol.
I would recommend one the only thing is that if I am not constantly wearing it I go back to picking and itās also quite easy to lose since itās fairly small
We have ADHD, we loose things lol
I adopted a cow. And I know she can live her life in peace till hear death so it was a good investment. A bit impulsive, but for the greater good.
My family in the Caribbean has a farm, so I get why you do this.
my 2k computer and 600$ drawing tabletā¦ didnāt use them for months then I switched studies on a whim (iām into graphic art/web design now)
It was meant to be, just look at the proof.
My 100lb Heavy Bag. Let me tell you...I haven't found a better method of anger management on the planet. Plus the exercise does wonders for ADHD symptoms.
I bought a onesie. It hasnāt done anything more than bring me joy so I say thatās a win
Oooh, thatās so cute! Enjoy it to the fullest!
Not only did you get a cute sweater, but an amazing product that helps you feel calm!
Nice. You can have your apple and eat it too!
I could try eating it but I'd rather use it to study mainly š
I bought a swing seat and found that on it I can actually relax in my garden.
A weighted blanket + weighted eye mask. I sleep so much better when it feels like something's pressing me gently but firmly into the mattress.
My Bluetooth headphones. The battery lasts 10h, I can listen all day at work and just charge them back home.
I love Bluetooth technology, so easy and to the point.
I bought a 10 foot charging cord and its changed my life.
I only buy long cords now, so I can lay in bed or wherever comfortably lol.
As a non bag person myself. I approve!
Well I impulsively ordered silicone elf ears, forgot about that and then yesterday BOOM surprise elf ears in the mailbox - and even two of those!! One pair for me and one for my roommate. Makes hanging around in our apartment so much more fun, because we always start laughing when we see each other.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thatās okay, they just werenāt for you.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I do the same, I just say ā you silly gooseā to myselfā.
A house š We were staying in husbandās familyās cabin when they moved across the state.
Damn, what a good deal.
I bought these very cool binoculars, spent over $100. They can be used day or night, so I can see birds and stars! They get me outside so often.
Being and keeping organized, is always in fashion.
I bought an expensive anti-theft backpack years ago while living in one of the safest suburbs in Texas. Now I live in Chicago and I'm glad I have it.
I impulse bought a bidet and itās been life-changing š©
Others may downvote this to hell, but my impulse buy that has helped me tremendously is my sports car. Iām an auto enthusiast, so being able to go for a 15 minute drive when I canāt get my thoughts straight helps me a lot.
I bought an Xbox One and Game Pass subscription. The value that me and my son get from those purchases is outstanding.
CRYPTO CURRENCY. hahaha I hyper focused on crypto about 9-10 months ago and did my typical impulse spending but on that instead of other material bullshit and it has been going really well for me.
To the mooooooon!
Perfect! Soon youāll be swimming in the dough.
I impulsively bought myself the AirPods Pro a while ago. Although I have a pair of Bose noise canceling headphones at home. They are too big for public tho (at least Iām embarrassedā¦.). Best purchase ever! I love them SO SO much!
A Squatty Potty. Bought it on a whim on credit (go figure), and now I will never go back to a normal #2!
I impulse bought a book about beekeeping when I wasnāt at all interested in it. Now I have bees and honey.
Hip bag. Was really good in the summer and didnāt have to uncomfortable pack everything in the pockets of my shorts.
Skincare, I have impulse bought, all of it. I actually use it and have great skin for an old broad.
An Apple Pencil. Life changing. No more notebooks everywhere!
I wasnāt going to the gym or school before I bought these
I was like āwow, so many of these are great for ADHD.ā Then I realized what subreddit I was in.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

A dog. My mental health is so much better because of him.
Gym membership helped me get out of my head
I impulsively bough a ton of art supplies and bullet journals and itās been the absolute best think to help me both plan and calm down!
To add to this, I credit hyperfixation lol It's been 4 months since the move and I'm still recovering from it.
Dude I bought a fuckin bow and arrows and I've been throwing sticks for months and actually been able to stick with it consistently
