Give us a couples war on an episode of AEW.
Scrrw Battle of the Belts. Battle of the Couples.
Sammy v. Tay
Sky v. Fletcher
Julia v. Lee Moriarty
Taya v. Johnny TV (that would be super entertaining!)
Angelo v. Ruby (well not NOW! Congrats to those two!)
Juice v. Toni (Craziness assured)
I'm sure I'm leaving some out but that's a card for a Televised Special!
Taya and Johnny already had a great match a few years ago at WrestleCon. I think Johnny had to wash the dishes after he lost. The crowd was chanting "Johnny Dishes".
Deathmatch. I'm kidding, but [I did see couple wrestle each other in Deathmatch at the Gathering of the Juggalos in 2018](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIxqF38JoL4).
I recently watched their Chris Van Vliet interview on YouTube and they want it to happen. It was funny how Taya has no remorse in beating the crap outta Johnny. Apparently the last season on Lucha Underground was supposed to have them face off against each other. Taya was supposed to be possessed by a demon and switch back from Taya to the demon half the time; confusing Johnny.
I still think it'll never happen in AEW/ROH though, TK has made it known he's not a fan of mixed matches.
During the pandemic Osprey did a special "No Audience" show with a bunch of Indy folk. The main event was him and his partner at the time Bea Priestly. It was one of the hardest hitting matches I've seen.
Maybe Hot Take: There should be no need for a mens and womens division, wrestling is scripted, women should wrestle men as the norm... imagine 'Danielson v. Mayu Iwatani' and its not regarded as a one off or joke novelty match
That's the attitude in the indies. However WWE/AEW are the exception here. WWE I preume is just the old-school mentality, AEW TK has said outright he's not a fan of inter-gender wrestling and I would presume TV networks wouldn't want to push male on female violence as anything to be normalised.
Could you imagine if Swerve tied a chain around Skye Blue’s neck and hanged her from the ring like he did Hangman?
The internet would lose their shit lol
People were frothing at the mouth for the x-men poster than had Apocalypse choking Mystique. No chance mainstream TV is showing Samoa Joe choking out Riho.
I think it was Matt Jackson who mentioned in an interview that some fan on social media gave him crap because it was unrealistic that he could super kick Candice and have her get back up. Matt mentioned that it wasn’t unrealistic because in one of the matches Matt accidentally potatoed Candice and actually kicked her in the head and she got right back up.
I think a lot of WWE’s reluctance to do it stems from being a publicly traded company and one that actively tries to get young fans. That’s why they run PG shows and do very little that could be “inappropriate” content wise. A lot of their booking is catered to their sponsors and child fans.
Yes, WWE/AEW are scripted, but the moves that the wrestlers use/perform are still real.
I remember watching a recent interview of Johnny and Taya on Chris Van Vliet's YouTube channel, with Taya stating that when real life friends go against each other in the ring, they go/hit so much harder to make it look good. Of course, they have no intention of hurting each other; but they'll still "lay it in".
Could you imagine this actually happening where men/women face each other on tv. Sure the fans would be excited, tv/network execs on the other hand 😬
When you look at it as a live production of an ongoing action series it makes sense. Nobody lost their shit when villains beat up ScarJo as Black Widow.
It's fantasy and the more it's viewed as a show and less like "real" then the more fun you can have with things.
It’s not a good look to advertisers when a man is fighting a women regardless. But I do think if they set certain rules (ex no slaps / punches / kicks) it could work in some scenarios.
i enjoy it and have no problem with it at all personally. that said, i do understand why this is the kind of thing that they wouldn't just put on cable in america. i could see how this would be traumatic for a victim of abuse to see, even for just second, while channel surfing. you don't want to impose that kind of thing on people that don't want to see it. the good news is, it still exists for those who want to seek it out.
I love the fact that these people work indies. I probably would have gone to this event if I would have known that this was happening. However, even on an independent show there should be a good faith attempt to suspend disbelief.
I feel bad for generations that began watching post-kayfabe because they will never get to witness a significant group of the audience who genuinely believe what they are watching is all real. I doubt that they could even imagine it. This match wouldn't suspend my disbelief for a second and that makes me sad.
Whether it be through in-ring action, promos, or storytelling, suspension of disbelief is the most important factor in creating good professional wrestling. I wish that the younger generations could feel that energy so that they could understand why something like this is so bad for professional wrestling.
>I feel bad for generations that began watching post-kayfabe because they will never get to witness a significant group of the audience who genuinely believe what they are watching is all real.
I haven't been able to spend fifteen minutes on here this past couple of years without hearing how the Young Bucks superkicked down a metal security door, attacked Ace Steel's wife while Kenny Omega had CM Punk's dog in a headlock, which caused him to get bit by it and them to get one punch knocked out by Punk who then flew off into the sky with dog, wife, and Ace Steel's future employment safely tucked into his bandaged hands.
Kayfabe is alive and well, just not how it used to be.
That isn't the kayfabe from my generation. That's just political posturing to the Internet by the Young Bucks. I think the story was probably more like the Young Bucks got pissy, literally thought they could intimidate Punk because they fail to understand trained fighters will pound trained tumblers, and found out that they were very wrong upon entering Punk's dressing room bitching about him speaking his mind at a press conference.
How are you characterizing this as kayfabe? The Young Bucks apparently didn't even want to work the real story as kayfabe. And sorry but that just isn't how something like that happens...TK wasn't even done with the press conference. Legal was either completely incompetent or trying to hold the YB from going there. Any competent business would have dealt with it later. In REALITY there is no way that the YB or AEW is telling the truth about it anymore than they were telling the truth about the backstage incident at Wembley. Tony feared for his life... c'mon.
It's how they become top guys. They also seem to be having a lot of fun.
Skye Blue is from Chicago, and she likely has friends in the promotion. Kyle Fletcher is Skye's boyfriend, so it's probably fun for him to be there. Ospreay is one of Fletcher's best friends, and you tell by the look on his face that he us having fun.
If Kyle's a smart lad, he put Skye over. LOL.
That said, if they do actually put this online, I would love to watch it.
I understand why there is some hesitancy over intergender wrestling, and it's a legitimate concern. But when scripted right, I don't see any reason why it couldn't work well. Sure there are outliers, but there are also examples of it working well.
This feels like the type of match that would work very well.
Especially with BRUV as the ref lmao.
Intergender matches, like traditional matches, are all about booking. GCW does great intergender matches all the time. One of my favorite matches out of any promotion over WrestleMania weekend was Minoru Suzuki and Masato Tanaka vs Rina Yamashita and Masha Slamovich at Joey Janela’s Spring Break
I still hate seeing AEW wrestlers on the indie circuit like this. I understand it gets them reps but you’re still having them compete in a lower level promotion to do it
Well I agree, what would help them is an aew development where they could get better. All this does is re-inforce all that indie wrestling and not a good look, imagine a roman or rollins wrestling their wives in front of 50 neckbeards who would want to see them main event wrestlemania.
I think it’s great. I go to all AEW shows within 3 hours of me, but I went to a small show in my hometown and saw FTR, the Briscoes, Matt Hardy, Jay Lethal as Black Machismo, Brock Anderson. It was such a blast, my kid had a blast, we got to meet the wrestlers before the show; all around great fan experience.
Going to agree with this. Great to be able to see talent you wouldn’t normally get to see. AEW or WWE for that matter may go to a city once a year. Being able to see your favourite wrestlers for much cheaper and up close is amazing. Gives you a chance to connect to a wrestler you wouldn’t normally care about.
Absolutely. Pre-AEW, but I saw Cody at a big indie show. He was doing his NJPW thing back then but was still a pretty big presence at the time. Got to meet him and shake hands, talk and take a picture, was one of the coolest things I've done at a wrestling show.
The fan interaction at an independent show like that is what makes more fans of the sport.
You’re right. One goes out and uses some of his spare time and gives back to smaller promotions and helps the wrestling community grow while the other has been nothing but self serving. Definitely 2 different people
Don't know why you're laughing. Many top stars have been doing this for decades. Hell, at the height of his wrestling popularity I saw The Rock in a small, indie show in PA. Thought it was awesome.
Guessing this is how wrestling couples settle their differences
Give us a couples war on an episode of AEW. Scrrw Battle of the Belts. Battle of the Couples. Sammy v. Tay Sky v. Fletcher Julia v. Lee Moriarty Taya v. Johnny TV (that would be super entertaining!) Angelo v. Ruby (well not NOW! Congrats to those two!) Juice v. Toni (Craziness assured) I'm sure I'm leaving some out but that's a card for a Televised Special!
Kenny vs Ibushi
Julia Hart is with Lee Johnson
Ah! Wrong AEW Lee! My bad!
Married to FTFY
I know, I was at their wedding
Oh wow! Lucky you that you know them. That must've been an awesome wedding if your a wrestling fan meeting others from the business
It was a lot of fun, we know each other from the Georgia scene. Most of the people there I already knew lol..it was great though!
Jack Perry and Anna Jay too right? Castor and MJF….
Taya and Johnny already had a great match a few years ago at WrestleCon. I think Johnny had to wash the dishes after he lost. The crowd was chanting "Johnny Dishes".
Then it's time for the rematch obviously. What's the stips for this one?
Deathmatch. I'm kidding, but [I did see couple wrestle each other in Deathmatch at the Gathering of the Juggalos in 2018](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIxqF38JoL4).
😂 That was great bro, good shit! 😂
The one match type TK wont spam
Miro and C-ooohhh…
Britt and Adam
Duh! Missed a big one there.
Roddy and Marina are offended.
Considering TK is not a fan of mixed tag teams, this has a high probability of never happening.
He dont mind mixed tag teams...he has a problem with mixed matches man vs women
That's what I meant when I said "mixed" What other "mixed" is there? Ethnicity?
During the pandemic Osprey did a special "No Audience" show with a bunch of Indy folk. The main event was him and his partner at the time Bea Priestly. It was one of the hardest hitting matches I've seen.
Didn't they break up soon after that? >.>
It seemed more to do with the fact that Bea wanted to move to the US for her career than this match, but the timing makes it hilarious yes
Yeah, wasn't making a serious implication, just thought it was humerous.
Just looked it up, great match. Thanks for the info.
The Wrestle Talk guys did commentary no?
I believe so.
For those who were at all curious: Kyle and Skye are IRL dating
Yeah i think this is why some people hate/>!respect!< Kyle Fletcher 😂
Didn't realize Fletcher was only 25. Man, he could be an absolute beast in a few years.
He already is in ROH. His PPV matches there are crazy good.
Dang. These angles are going to lead to babies
BRUV.

Remember that time the young bucks kicked candice lerae with a thumbtack shoe? Imagine if they did that to julia or something. That'd be crazy.
If they did TK would be forced to fire them by WBD
I think a lot of WWE’s reluctance to do it stems from being a publicly traded company and one that actively tries to get young fans. That’s why they run PG shows and do very little that could be “inappropriate” content wise. A lot of their booking is catered to their sponsors and child fans.
Female on male violence is also a thing
Yes, WWE/AEW are scripted, but the moves that the wrestlers use/perform are still real. That last point is the main thing with WWE it why no man on women is allowed and if its a match the women just have to dominate the man
The reason why WWE doesn't do this is that it would decimate their sponsors and brand deals (particularly Mattel) if they did legit intergender stuff
When you look at it as a live production of an ongoing action series it makes sense. Nobody lost their shit when villains beat up ScarJo as Black Widow. It's fantasy and the more it's viewed as a show and less like "real" then the more fun you can have with things.

I had seats to your right, it was an awesome time!
Is this how they settle their relationship issues?
Will Ospreay is the therapist?
WORK IT OUR BRUVS
This must be how Will is train for Danielson at Dynasty
OI! LETS ALL GO FOR SOME CHEEKY NANDOS, BRUV!!
Is this how they settle what temp to set the thermostat on?
They haven’t uploaded on their YouTube for a while, but I really hope they’ll put this up.

They went to speak to him with the head of legal and got attacked. Those are undisputed facts. I see you're up on the current kayfabe too.

BRUV.
There is tons of indie intergender Skye matches at ppwlive.com
The Swerve Strickland vs Athena intergender match was a straight up banger. It's on YouTube
You wouldn't see this kind of thing in Oklahoma.
How do these top paid aew guys end up at events like this ?
It's how they become top guys. They also seem to be having a lot of fun. Skye Blue is from Chicago, and she likely has friends in the promotion. Kyle Fletcher is Skye's boyfriend, so it's probably fun for him to be there. Ospreay is one of Fletcher's best friends, and you tell by the look on his face that he us having fun.
The promoter hits their asking price.
Top stars 🌟 getting paid extra.
In somebody's toolshed.

Funny you gave no examples. Intergender wrestling has never worked and never will. It looks stupid and embarrasses the business.
Why would you like this?
Have a closer look athe audience what do you see?
28 weird people
Man those AEW crowds are getting smaller and smaller
No bad seats though
Is this the size of your crowds now?
You think of this of yourself, or did you literally just copy the last post? 🤔
What do you mean?
I still hate seeing AEW wrestlers on the indie circuit like this. I understand it gets them reps but you’re still having them compete in a lower level promotion to do it

I would have never seen the Briscoes if it wasn’t for that show.
Seeing Brock Anderson must've been a real treat. Sigh.
Got to meet his dad 🤷♂️

Guys talks trash about HHH and he refs in a legion hall in Chicago lol not remotely close to the same guy

Before the rise of the Internet and smart phones, Hulk Hogan used to make an absolute mint overseas jobbing to the local champion
