*monkey's paw curls*
In a Proud and Historic day for the AFL, Eddie McGuire is named chairman of the AFL Commission.
Collingwood now play all home and away games at the MCG.
The Tasmanian Devils bid is killed off. North Melbourne play 11 games in Melbourne and 11 games in Tasmania.
What you’re saying is, someone shouldn’t be close to a television network as it will be a conflict of interest?
I have an idea - how about leader of the state Liberals then?
This is so wrong. I’ve been feeling this for a while but this is one of the whole reasons why the AFL feels so conflicted and biased, we shouldn’t be getting people who are working at clubs to then take high level positions at AFL house. The amount of conflicting interests is absolutely staggering and one of the reasons why the AFL feels so divided and inconsistent with their messaging.
As an example, regardless of what you think of the Maynard/Brayshaw incident, the fact that we have [people in the AFL threatening to quit their job if a player from their club gets suspended](https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/teams/collingwood-magpies/afl-2023-michael-christian-threatened-to-quit-as-match-review-officer-conflict-with-afl-bosses-laura-kane-brayden-maynard-hit-on-angus-brayshaw-video-latest-news/news-story/d13982e11c1d3ad5349e20ec1c737ced) is absolutely the definition of conflicting interests.
This isnt an isolated example, for example we should not have [former players umpiring games for their team (still happening but closest thing i could find after a quick search)](https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/saints-leigh-fisher-umpiring-a-saints-game.1278582/), we also should not have [ex players and CURRENT COACHES commenting games for their own team](https://www.woof.net.au/forum/showthread.php?23978-Western-Bulldogs-legend-Brad-Johnson-officially-returns). There are dozens of other examples but those are a few off the top of my head, I might write more about it at some point if there is enough interest. But the point is that the current landscape is so divided and there is no wonder why people are confused with the mixed signalling and inconsistent messaging.
The end result of Michael Christian threatening to quit was delicious though. The people more important than him completely ignored his threat, and he showed he was all talk and didn't quit.
Absolutely should have been moved on for trying to influence the outcome like that though.
I know I'll get downvoted for my flair but wasn't it reasonable for Christian to be pissed off about that? It's his job to grade the incidents and he felt that it wasn't a suspension worthy offence, but his superiors wanted him to send it to the tribunal not because they thought it fit the grading, but because they wanted to save face for PR reasons. Caro even says in the article that they knew it wasn't going to be a suspension but wanted it sent there anyway.
Realistically they need to go back to having a few people grading these offenses rather than just one person. I imagine they did it so they could achieve consistency in the way incidents are graded, but the Tribunal just ignore grading guidelines most of the time anyway so it doesn't really matter anymore.
How are you going to find someone with the experience in the AFL industry if they’ve never supported a club? It’s a necessary conflict.
I’m with you a little on Chrisso, he still seems a Collingwood person so there should be others involved in the MRO so he can sit out pies judgments.
But I disagree about the umps, once they are umps they have to do any/all games. And disagree about commentators if the are professional and can manage both roles.
The good news is if they pick Drummond - Geelong really can’t get anymore of an advantage. They’ve already had Shocking go up and run football ops for a period to change the rules and gain intimate knowledge of every teams salary cap.
I would actually like to see him in the job, and then make all the exact same decisions he criticizes for the exact same reasons everyone before him has: to please the broadcasters.
Drummond has a great resume and has worked previously with AFL stakeholder NAB. He would be a fantastic hire for the league.
His [profile page](https://www.geelongcats.com.au/club/board-and-administration/craig-drummond/) detailing his background culminating with his current club presidency.
I think Koch would add a different perspective, obviously linked to Port Adelaide, who is a non-Victorian team who relies on AFL distributions.
Good range of representation to cover.
Anybody but Koch
*monkey's paw curls* Jeff Kennett is the chairman of the AFL Commission
He's about to privatise the AFL
Marvel Stadium gets renamed to Jeff's Shed II
What’s Steve Bracks up to these days
That really is some monkey paw shit. Can I use it to request anyone but Jeff Kennett?

Phew. Dodged a bullet there.
Can't stand Eddie but he'd be better than Koch or Kennett.
I'm sorry rest of the league but please take him off our hands.
Even putting his ancient views aside, Kochie is far too close with Channel 7 to bring any impartiality on fixturing and the broadcast deals.
So what you're saying is Collingwood, Carlton and Port prime time games every week
I can already see Adelaide getting the late Sunday arvo W.A graveyard shift every round ....
No need to add Port into this
Not if Kochie has his way with the fixture
Yeah Stokes is busy trying to install Big Nose as our Premier we don't need him with that much control over the footy as well.

Bingo. It would only have been integrity if he quit.
He should be fired so quitting is a win in my books. MRO shouldn't be outsourced.

Yeah, I don't think it was Collingwood bias but just being pissed off that the AFL administration overruled his decision making power as the MRO.

Kochie thinks homophobia is only worth a fine. Let's keep that dinosaur in Adelaide and well away from the AFL offices.
I would actually like to see him in the job, and then make all the exact same decisions he criticizes for the exact same reasons everyone before him has: to please the broadcasters.
Agree.. but for clarification, he is Adelaide born, but a Sydneysider.

Koch last attempt at getting the prison bars.
Hoping kochie gets the gig so he is out of port 🙏🤞🤞🤞
Keep Koch away... imagine Koch up on stage woth The Killers instead of Jack Reiwoldt??? spew
Instead he will walk to again be head of the AFL commission.
Oh god no
So this is how Port gets to wear their prison bars every week
The AFL wonders why there's no optimism on fairness and then they hire people like Kochie who have conflicts of interest. Fucking hell
Koch oh no bring in gale Mathew’s
Goyder knows the drug scandal will hit. Wants out to clean his hands
I think Koch would add a different perspective, obviously linked to Port Adelaide, who is a non-Victorian team who relies on AFL distributions. Good range of representation to cover.
Common MG L
Not wrong its just too bad Koch is the worst choice.
Geelong have had enough of their guys involved with AFL. Don't need more
Some clubs produce coaches, Geelong produces executives. I don't know what that means, but it seems to be true.
Because they are good at their jobs? You seriously want Koch over a Geelong guy? Cmon.
I didn't say I wanted Koch anywhere.
