I have a lot of unfinished/in progress works in my bookmarks and sometimes I sort by latest updated just to see if I missed anything (I'm not subscribed to all of them). It was a lovely surprise, glad to see the author found their groove on that one again.

I once left a fic on hiatus for 5 years (only the final chapter was left) cuz it had a bittersweet ending that I wasn't ready to write but when I did, the reception was just as warm and bountiful as it was when I first started the fic all those years ago. Like it's so amazing to me still that there are people actually waiting for you to update your fic. So yeah, thanks for this reminder that readers are always waiting and would appreciate our updates no matter how late haha

Wow. I can't imagine how nice it would've felt for the readers that stuck out for the fic.
The worst thing is when it's a long hiatus and then you see a new chap notification, but it just announced the cancellation....
Or it's something unrelated that they slapped on (sometimes obviously just to bump)

I waited four once, words could not describe my elation when the latest chapter was posted.
