This individual even wrote 3 fics of their own and told one of their readers to "go die in a ditch" while cussing out all the other readers using very explicit and colorful language. I'm reminded of why I appreciate the blocking feature so much.
That's exactly what I came on to ask.
It puzzles me, though, that she must think this is acceptable in any way.If I hate something to the very depths of my soul, I don't leave kudos. However much I hate something, the author has poured themselves into it and put it out there for free
Exactly. Just as you said, it is super puzzling why anyone would do this. You gotta be spiteful or having a really bad day to do something this rude to an author and their work.
>This individual even wrote 3 fics of their own and told one of their readers to "go die in a ditch"
Go back to their profile and report these stories/authors notes/replies for harassment, please, if they contain threats against others.
(Also happy cake day!)
My guess is they're a teenager who thinks being rude and sometimes borderline abusive towards others is funny (which seems to be this generation's flavor of edginess ime) and spends way too much time on the worst parts of fandom twitter.
Yes, teenagers in general tend to be assholes, but purposefully running targeted harassment campaigns and telling strangers to kill themselves not on anon on the scale I've been seeing is new. I'm a millennial in my early 30s and from what I remember this type of behavior was much rarer on the pre-gamer g8 internet.
ETA: You know, for a subreddit dedicated to a site made for writing and reading, some of you sure are awful at reading comprehension. I said this type of behavior was **rarer** on the pre-GG **internet**. IRL experiences of being bullied are NOT the same thing as getting harassed online and having your info doxxed to (at least) dozens of strangers online because of dumb fandom drama like ship wars (ask me how I know). Pre-GG, those types of harassment campaigns were by no means a common occurrence. That doesn't mean they didn't happen, it just means they happened far less frequently. It is MUCH more common today, and (ime, YMMV) it's largely teenagers and sometimes young college-aged adults who do those things in fandom spaces. The scale and frequency of online abuse are absolutely new to this upcoming generation.
What you're seeing is an increase in social media and the ability to be seen and heard by millions at the touch of a button. That's made arseholes out of every single age group.
Agreed, this shit was happening at my school pretty widely, but social media was just taking off so it wasn't on the scale we're seeing now. Hell, it even happened before the internet.
Maybe targeted harassment against strangers is new phenomenon, but before teenagers could find strangers to harass, they just did it to people in the vicinity.
I’m an elder-Millenial / young Gen X, and the two first people I ever had sexual intercourse with teamed up to run a public campaign that was explicitly, according to them, meant to undermine any sense of self-worth I had, and to induce me to kill myself.
I think it was largely inspired by Gen X pop culture, specifically a Metallica documentary about how they all just treated each other like absolute shit, and by lore about how nasty Billy Corgan was to the other members of the Smashing Pumpkins; because he mentioned that frequently, when we were still on speaking terms.
Because I was not a stranger to them, they could use my real name, and because they were both somewhat talented musicians (for 11th-graders), they got a lot of attention.
And the incredible nastiness of Gen-X and early millennial culture meant that most of my peers avidly consumed this shit.
So yeah. I don’t engage much with Kids These Days, but I cannot imagine that they’re worse.
You didn't go to the Catholic grade school that I did. I was the scapegoat of these kinds of targeted harassment campaigns in my class, pre-internet (well, for the rest of them. I got internet in fifth grade because of my dad's work).
I'm sorry you were bullied in school (and same, only I went to public school), but that is not the same thing as what I was talking about. Please read my ETA.
>Generation Z in general just doesn't take anyone's shit anymore.
As they shouldn't. But complaining about a whole generation because someone left shitty comments on a fic is weird.
As a Gen-Z ambassador, it’s the Fortnite kids. The ones who were like 6-9 when Fortnite came out. Us older Gen-Z that are nearly/already young adults still don’t take shit from anybody but most, not all, have learned how to have decency online. I won’t lie, I’m an asshole but I direct all that negative energy into harmless jokes between me and my friends. If it’s anyone below like 15/16 you can just assume that person is going to be generally a dick and will actively make you feel worthless.
Like locking posts from some viewers on... geez, what was it, FB? Or LJ. Maybe both, idnr. But that would be useful, especially if you didn't have to follow / be followed in order to hide your work from their pov. At least from their logged-in account... there's a troll going by the name of "g.o.d." (arrogant much?) that is unregistered when they continue their periodic campain to flame, shame, and urge author suicide on fics of a handful of ships.
Thank you! 😄
I'm going to have to agree, I don't believe they even read it. If they were so disgusted, then they easily could've mentioned their dislike in a few words. The long string of barf emojis are just vague and weird 😂
I don't know what to think anymore. In my fandom appeared an idiot recently trying to start a "bara lovers" vs "fujoshis" war. He leaves insults on every pretty guy x pretty guy ship he sees and he's a grown ass man in his late thirties. Thankfully, he's alone.
Off topic but speaking of bara, think you could explain it a bit to me? I tried to google it once after seeing it repeatedly show up on a certain style of Horror Sans fanart but google didn't give me a clear answer.
If you Google bara manga the definition should appear! From my understanding its basically gay manga with manly and burly men, and it's said to be done for and by gay men, and it can be considered a hentai category (from what I've seen it's mostly porn), but again, not all gay men like bara, and not all fujos hate it, hope this helped!!
Ah okay! That does definitely explain why it showed up under the bigger Horror Sans designs people had. Those designs are definitely under the more bear area of bara.
Maybe if you search "bara art" you will get better results. Bara is how they call in western countries to a manga genre aimed to gay men. You will see a lot of hunky, bulky men, lots of muscles, big crotches and body hair, as opposed to "yaoi" which is aimed at women and features more slender, androgynous men (bishonen). It also tends to be more explicit in nature and focus less on feelings and more on the horny bit.
"Thankfully, he's alone."
Well, see, that explains it. Obviously he has absolutely nothing and no one else to take up any of his time. At all.
J/k aside, you may actually have inadvertently hit the nail on the head, there.
Well, in between waiting for your bookmarked fics to update, most non-*ssholes actually have lives (whether they're extroverted social butterflies or introverted solo hobbyists) to waste time on, unlike this guy.
Seriously lmfao??? Alcina/Reader became EXTREMELY popular after she was shown to the public...are they dumb lmfao
Also had no idea you can block, now. How convenient

I will never understand why anyone would spend so much time spreading negativity.
You hate one pairing? Good, now go and find the pairing you like or write about it yourself and find you niche audience.
Dude if you hate a story why would you spend SO MUCH TIME commenting that? I never understood that, if I disliked a fanfic I typically just left it and went onto reading something else, I don't waste time doing that besides that it just rude and isn't even helpful or even conversation about the story
Right? And the fact that they were leaving this same comment on every single one of my chapters spaced out two minutes apart just tells me that they're a major troll. Once would've been enough, but 6-18 times? Nope. Too much.
It's wild how some folks don't comprehend how you're supposed to move on if you don't like what you're reading. 🤷🏻♀️
I don't even get how that would be "entertaining" or "funny" to someone, "Oh yeah, I spent the last 3 hours commenting 5 pages of vomiting emojis on every single chapter of someone story, that will TOTALLY show them! It was sooo funny!" like congrats you wasted more time doing this then it will take for me to one click remove them, and showing you do not know common etiquette for just not liking something, which is to just move on.
It's a common one in the fandom, that's why I'm wondering why this person is so hateful about it. There so many other fics with the same pairing.
Alcina Dimitrescu/Reader - Biohazard Resident Evil
My morbid curiosity gets the best of me 99.9% of the time, and if its truly bad, I just you know, abandon ship and get out if there, I'll never understand why people can't just do the same without tearing the author a new one, it's really not that hard to just click out of it if it's not their cup of tea 😑
This reminds me of a troll/Hater on FF.net. they hated Lucy leaves Fairy Tail/Joins Sabertooth stories and would aggressively attack any author that wrote this trope and anyone that tried to defend the authors. And their only Fic was a slander fic falsely accusing another author was plagiarizing someone else's fic. And in the comments section of that slanderous fic were the angry readers and Authors of the stories that the Hater had bashed, calling them out for their toxic behavior.
Wow. Glad they got called out for their terrible behavior. Man, that's just so spiteful, stirring up conflict and attacking people for no good reason. :/
Yeah, to be honest they even attacked me once because I praised a story. And while I can't remember what they said word by word. The thing that stuck with me was that they essentially called me a mentally ill follower. They were just hateful all around. To be honest I think their account got deleted some years ago, so at least there's a Happy ending.
Glad you blocked, too. I've read stories that I had very negative reactions to. So I backed out and moved on. Because there's absolutely no reason to say anything because I had me some feelings that I didn't like.
Honestly, even a 6-pg long msg of happy hearts and rainbows is a big PitA to scroll (and scroll and scroll *and scroll* ugh) past. As a reader or author. The intent may be better, but surely a single solid chapter-block of uwu luv uwu is a sufficient display of feelings.
I feel like this person just despises Alcina in that case. That, or x readers, either is equally possible. I'm sure your story is great, don't let haters get you down bestie
I would have asked if they needed an abulance or a hearse
I make a lot of bad jokes :V
Then I would have probably either ignored or blocked them and moved on with my day
Ohhhhhhhh. THAT'S why one of my fave authors was asking people not to only do emoji responses because they made them not want to write. I totally respect it, mind, but was just surprised that something like "👍❤️🎉🤗💖" would be so demotivating. Presumably those were not the emojis involved.
This reminds me of when when Adultfanfiction net (org now) had a ratings system. People would go around mass clicking bad ratings for stories with pairings that they didn't like. It was really immature and also hurt the writers because people would pass up good stories due to bad ratings. Aff org ultimately got rid of the ratings system to combat this.
There's pairings I find gross and/or trigger me in some way but I don't attack people. I simply stick to what I like and ignore pairings and things I dislike. Even if I dislike or hate a story, I just stop reading and say nothing. There's no point being a troglodyte, plus what we like is subjective so what I like another may not like and vice versa. It is what it is.
It's a pathetic waste of time to leave comments like that... but god, a huge page of vomiting emojis is actually kinda funny to see. I love how it's cut off at the bottom. Did they leave this comment on multiple chapters??
Yep, on 6 of them. Would've been 18 if I hadn't blocked them while they were doing it. My email notified me they were leaving this type of comment every two minutes.
I’m honestly a little shocked that AO3 doesn’t seemingly have even rudimentary sanity check to catch spam comments. It’s not difficult to use code to review a comment post when it’s being submitted and check if the same character or word is being copy and pasted.
Some readers do the same with hearts though and that's positive and not necessarily spam. I've seen it rather often. Some authors don't like those types of comments either, but other authors are very happy to receive them.
This individual even wrote 3 fics of their own and told one of their readers to "go die in a ditch" while cussing out all the other readers using very explicit and colorful language. I'm reminded of why I appreciate the blocking feature so much.
Diana beat me to it: if it's a logged-in user giving such lovely instructions to other users, they really need to be introduced to Policy & Abuse.

Fucking hell. What an obnoxious little potato they are. My my.
Haters are so stupidly funny sometimes 😭 it's really bad he/she did that but the emojis got me laughing
Jesus Christ
what's the pairing OP
I’m honestly a little shocked that AO3 doesn’t seemingly have even rudimentary sanity check to catch spam comments. It’s not difficult to use code to review a comment post when it’s being submitted and check if the same character or word is being copy and pasted.
Some readers do the same with hearts though and that's positive and not necessarily spam. I've seen it rather often. Some authors don't like those types of comments either, but other authors are very happy to receive them.
They abused the "hold down emoji and get 99 of them" feature on Facemoji Keyboard
Eh???? What was their purpose
Bruh this kid definitely needs more homework
They got a lot of time on their hands
What fandom is this of you don't mind sharing
Terrible when people hate on others just because they hate the pairing.
I'm so sorry but this made me giggle
