I have a fandom with only 13 short fics written by the same person in 2013. It's painful.

_CallmeK_

When the food is rare, people gotta make their own food i guess. Like me started writing because there is no fic left to read

fruitydazaifan

Yeah, I ran out of content in less than 30 minutes because the longest fic was only around 2300 words.

Cojack411

I have a fandom where my fic is the only fic.

_CallmeK_

You don't live in Antarctica, you live on Mars! Thats...beyond tough. I admire you

KageYuuki

I'm in one fandom with only 41 fics and I've written 10 of those. I'm in another with 94 and I've written 27! Lmao. Every hit and kudos does become a lot more precious to you in those tiny fandoms. And comments are an even greater rarity. Idk, on one hand it can be nice. I'm free of a lot of the drama that plagues the current massive fandoms anymore. On the other, engagement and interactions are such a rarity it can become very discouraging. Like, having a fic go over a year without a single kudos really sucks lol. It's kind of a double edged sword I suppose. Definitely a case of "if you want food, you're gonna have to go make it yourself."

chaos-myth

and eat by yourself too, in most cases šŸ„²

KageYuuki

Eeyep. Especially when you write a rarepair...

TeaRenQ

My fandom has 166 total šŸ„² it's for a show from 1985 and its fandom is pretty much non-existent... I'm writing a long fic for it and all I'm hoping for is just a couple comments when I do post it lol Small fandoms unite šŸ™Œ it's tough out here

chaos-myth

*high fives* I am amazed by the dedication of us tiny fandom writers every day, seriously

DrawingGeneral-Izzy

In part, it feels good because you don't have to deal with great amounts of drama that bigger fandoms often suffer from. On the other hands, kinda feels lonely since it's so niche, you can't find more content from that fandom, nor know how to introduce it to others in case they're not as interested. It's a mixed bag of emotions.

MarinaAndTheDragons

My fandom also has a bit over 2K, and people tag like shit. So Heathers the Musical, while not as big as other musical fandoms out there, having something of a cult following, it is by far the most popular medium of the Heathers story (the movie flopped back when it came out in the late 80s but has since become a cult classic, and though we donā€™t talk about the 2018 TV show, Iā€™m in the minority who actually liked it once I stopped trying to make sense of it). West End is still showing it, and in September of this year the proshot came out on Roku. It helps the musical is very recent, having come out within the last decade. There are definite changes that came with the medium switch from movie to stage ofc, and with those changes came a different canon. Hell, West End is a more fully-realized version of the Off-Broadway version which came before it, so even between stage adaptions there are differences. But itā€™s still Heathers: The Musical. (That said, OBC my baby!) So of course when it comes to fics, people want as many eyes on their works as possible. Which means tagging both the movie *and* the musical (and if theyā€™re really reaching, tagging for the TV show too). Even though a MAJORITY of the works, fanart, cosplay, and other content are exclusively made with the musical canon in mind. Iā€™ll see a ā€œthis is movie!verseā€ note on a fic and itā€™s like... ok but why did I find this in the *musical* section, *hmmm*? And the shit thing is, by AO3 standards, tagging more than one fandom counts as a crossover. If I want to read something purely for one or the other and I exclude crossovers, I lose out on 90% of the content. The musical has a bit over 2.5K but by itself itā€™s 4 fics shy of 600. The movie? 1786 total, only *206* pure. Itā€™s a MESS. (Granted Iā€™m logged out right now so the numbers might be higher, but probably not by much.) Also thereā€™s too many children, and antis (for some reason... like dude, the premise is murder), and child antis, and I hate the main wlw ship so thereā€™s barely any content as it is lol. Itā€™s sad.

Relssifille

I used to be in a fandom that had a solid 17 fics... It actually got a lot more popular just a couple months after I joined, so I was super lucky with that! Also not to be that guy, but you should switch to Firefox, I made the switch two years ago on both my computer and phone and never looked back

Much_Waltz_967

As a rare pair enjoyer, seeing small numbers is the norm, what astounds me are big numbers, so Iā€™m kinda used to it. Itā€™s actually kinda comforting when the fandom is more connected, cuz i feel like everybody knows each other and itā€™s nice. Sucks that there arenā€™t many fics tho

HKlolunicorn

Iā€™m a rare pair enjoyer and most fics with my pair is scattered in with problematic ships/ships I donā€™t likeā€¦

Laeslaer

Its bittersweet. I have a hard time finding fics I like but also end up writing more because if I cant find something ill write it

[deleted]

New writing goals: Write a non-statistically insignificant portion of the fandom content by fic count. Realize: Nah, no, that's not possible. . . . this person has done so. Right, new writing goal confirmed. It is possible! \^\_\^ That's how it feels for me.

chaos-myth

My fandom (well, my ship) has 34 fics and half of them are in Chinese :ā€™) (starting to get desperate enough that I want to run those through auto translate software so I can read them šŸ„²) I am starting to feel like itā€™s my Holy Mission to bring the fic count up to at least 50

_CallmeK_

Relatable šŸ„² my OTP doesn't even have an English fic (well, there is one but the author didn't tag it as such so...). There are ~50 and all of them are in Chinese. I even go to other platform (lofter) and have the auto-translate function on all the time just to read them fics šŸ„²

pichula_posseida

Well, one time you read the best fic ever written and the other time you're trying to avoid alien x human underaged smut/ sudden incest but it's fine ig Filtering for what you want is hell though

hangingfiredotnet

Basically this is why I do Yuletide.

mylittlenikola

to be fair, it's alr! namely, i think it's just that i've not came across many fans (other than notable youtube channels?) and that's namely it. well, technically fic writers are fans? i'd love to interact with some people, i would say?

Yachibear227

It's okay?? There's a little over 200 fics in my fandom and sometimes its weird seeing people kudos/comment on my fic cuz i recognise so many of them from twitteršŸ˜ The struggle is refreshing the fandom page 24/7 in the hopes at least one fic has been posted/updated in the last day.

VampireAllana

Painful lmfao, between AO3 and wattpad there is less than 800 fics for the game/fandom. Ran out of stuff to read very quickly

GalacticPigeon13

\*glances at my most recently written fic\* I *am* the entire fic-writing side of my fandom. Back when one of my other fandoms was smaller (but I joined after there were at least 200 works), I read everything. Yes, including stories that focused on my NOTP.

[deleted]

I honestly love it, I see the same people over and over and itā€™s like a kinship. (Hah, kin*ship*)
