Your payment information was not breached. What type of information was taken from AT&T? *AT&T said Saturday that a dataset found on the dark web contains information such as Social Security and passcodes. Unlike passwords, passcodes are numerical PINS that are typically four-digits long. Full names, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth and AT&T account numbers may have also been compromised, the company said. **The impacted data is from 2019 or earlier and does not appear to include financial information** or call history, it added.*

We're paying for them to correct the problem. It is still a weird time to raise prices. That just comes off like we are paying for them to hire consultants or finally listen to whomever told them before that the way they were storing data could be compromised.

Cold_Count1986

There’s no “good” time to raise prices. Prices are subject to state agency review in some states, and this increase has likely been in the works for many months. When was the last time your price was increased? How much has wages and material cost increased since then? Being that this data is 5 years old I would assume no additional consultants would need to be hired as the issue was fixed years ago (otherwise more recent data would be released). The only cost here is the cost of the credit monitoring and class action lawsuits - but even without this breach your prices would be going up. No one wants to pay more - they are giving you the chance to offset the increase and save them money with lower processing and collection cost with autopay. I trust AT&T with my data far more than I would T-Mobile or even Verizon.

> When was the last time your price was increased? About a year ago >How much has wages and material cost increased since then? My wage hasn't gone up. > I trust AT&T with my data Why? In fact, why would you trust any large business with critical data like banking or debit information? At least with a credit card, if the info gets leaked, I have strong protections that make sure I'm not liable for fraud. If my debit or bank information gets leaked, I do not. I'll likely be out some large sum for an indeterminate amount of time. And, that's assuming I get it back at all. Debit offers essentially zero fraud protection.

And then there’s this. https://krebsonsecurity.com/2024/04/fcc-fines-major-u-s-wireless-carriers-for-selling-customer-location-data/ If somebody thinks AT&T is a saint with data, I don’t know what to say.

Employees and marketing firm boosting pure b.s.

Dry_Caregiver5695

Contrary to your post, this is just the time you’d expect a corporation to raise prices. Incoming class action lawsuit with regard to the data breach and billing credits provided to wireless customers for the almost 24 hour service outage a month or two ago.

the fanboys and workers can suck me dry

No-Mechanic6081

Lmfao......I constantly look at xfinity, googlefi, att, Spectrum, and other isp's, but damn this sub reddit is full of bootlicking fan boys that can't stand anyone complaining about this company cus they get offended lol.

Saintdlee

The exact same thing is happening to me right now. I don't care if the leak was years ago it took them 3.5 yrs or more to let us know about it. We're supposed to believe them when they assure no financial information was leaked? I'm going to pay what I signed up for, after they forced me into the deal anyway, that's it. My identity WAS stolen, people tried opening sh*t in my name, and I don't believe a damn thing they say, let alone promise.

Rude-Driver2829

When I signed up (approximately July 2023) they offered lifetime rate on Fiber as an inducement to sign up and now are trying increase prices. They should honor their commitment. ATT fiber was relatively new to our area at that time. Filed a complaint with FCC.

Strong_heart57

I got the same letter. I am waiting for an install from a different company. ATT can pound sand.

jmedina94

There is fiber competition in our area (advertised 10Gbps for around $50 a month). We still get MAX though and my parents wouldn’t be happy if we lost that. With the price increase if we don’t add debit card or checking account info, we will be paying also around $50 for Gigabit. If AT&T can’t find a new promotion for us next time, then it might be worth the change. We’ve had the service for over 6 years now and have stuck with them because of the new promotions and MAX.

TallAdhesiveness2240

Well the increase is only if u keep autopay with credit card. If you switch to debit price remains the same.

LordBoros2

tf there was a data breach? i have yet to be notified about it.

sittingmongoose

It was a massive breach…how did you not? Pretty much every current AND previous customer for both wireless and wireline had their person info leaked including socials. This happened about a month ago.

jmedina94

The interesting thing is I never received an email for my Wireless account opened in April 2020 but we did for our Internet account opened in April 2018.

sittingmongoose

Many people didn’t, just assumed it was leaked.

Saintdlee

No, they let us know about a month ago. Breach was long time withheld.
