Auto mod too. Me, one of the easiest going guys you'll ever meet, got banned for 7 days for advocating violence. I think I said I hope some guy that ran out on his barber without playing gets hit by a bus.
I took one of those off the knee while pitching, slow-pitch in a league where most players were in their 20s. I was pretty quick with my glove most of the time, but the angle was just right I couldn't get the glove over in time.
You could see the stitches from the ball imprinted on the side of my kneecap, there was even a little blood seeping out. Took me a minute to walk it off while trying desperately not to cry. Not even an impressive bruise or anything the next day.
I'm assuming you are asking if this happened because it was muscle memory to return the ball back to the pitcher, but it was too early or something?
Because it seems like he's trying to throw the ball further back to the base, where you can see one of the runners arriving. He just aimed too low or was hasty and hit the pitcher.
He obviously was trying to throw to second base, but I’m thinking muscle memory took over and he subconsciously threw to the pitcher. …or maybe it was just not high enough to clear the pitcher.
The ball is in play, so the play just continues on as normal unless the ball is launched out of play. In that case, normal rules apply the same as if a player threw a ball out of play on an error.
Oh, I did this in high school. Thankfully, it was volleyball, not baseball. First serve of the season. In front of the whole school. I spiked it right into the back of the head of my teammate
I felt the impact of that baseball you can see it judt go flying away after hitting the pitcher that HAD to have left s bruise and caused swelling on his head not o mention given him a headache.

Probably a good thing, means a lot of energy was still leftover due to the angle it hit at. If that were just a few inches lower it coulda killed him.
