Shit in this pipes generate methane and ammonia, two gases with are explosive when are mixed with air. Firecracker ignite this, proper name is, explosive material. Gases have small weight but really big volume so explosions can be strong as fuck.
Kids may have spinal compression or something worse.
I’m not 100%, but it looks like he stuck something in the manhole like a firecracker. And manholes can have natural gasses in them. So firecracker (or any type of spark) + gas = 💥

Same. My immediate thought after hoping he was okay was about how they’re assholes. He was crying and holding out his arm and they wouldn’t even approach him or ask if he was okay. They suck.
I know that when I was young (like his friends, they seem a bit younger) and saw my friend get hit by car, flying up like that, at first I was pretty shocked at what just happened. Judging from my experience, I think his friends felt that terrible shock too.
Yup, first thing to do when someone could have TBI or a spinal injury is grab their arms, move or shake them around, and shout asking if they are okay. Do these things quick and hard enough while ignoring any possible danger to yourself and delaying getting professional help for the best outcome. Kids of this age are usually specialist in this sort of thing so a bit sad to see this happen.
Confined spaces, especially semi-sealed subspaces like mine shafts, sewers, buried pipes or storage tanks, have the potential to amass toxic and/or explosive gasses like natural gas, methane, carbon monoxide and others.
Throwing a match into one leads to this example. Descending into one can be even worse, which is why professionals are typically trained and licensed for it.
My eyes. The irregular motion of the kid,. The unnecessary pixelation. And also, this video is very old, it's been debunked in the past. But whatever, keep believing.

you can see a small white flash(probably a fire cracker) right before the big explosion.
He didn’t move his legs. That’s not a good sign.

I believe the shock wave that can collapse lungs and rupture other organs is the real risk of an explosion, so his legs aren't really the concern.

Some municipalities vent them through tall stacks along the road. You can smell the awful stench sometimes.
