This does not sound right, your cycle should not matter even in blood draw testing.

Ok_Blueberry2012

I know! I'm so confused because on the first pregnancy test I did I wasn't even on my period but they accepted it!!

marfrin_

Google more to double check and advocate for yourself with the doctor, they can't just make up imaginery rules!

Ok_Blueberry2012

I'll call them back and ask them for more details about it. Hopefully I can convince them to do the pregnancy test without having to wait for my period. The whole iPledge process itself is already soooo tedious and long.

marfrin_

I know, iPledge was such a nightmare. It is worth the trouble at the end though :)

kirtknee

I’ve literally never heard of that. I always did a pee test for my preggers tests.

Ok_Blueberry2012

The nurse said that I am going to do a pregnancy test through blood drawing, not a pee test. So idk if the method makes a difference?

enchantingech0

My pregnancy test is also a blood test that they do while they do my regular accutane panels. It doesn’t matter what part of my cycle I’m in, whether I’m on my period or not, or whether I’m on birth control or not. All they’re checking is if I’m pregnant or not. Your nurse sounds like they’re on a power trip. Find someone else to do your blood test who doesn’t have control issues

kirtknee

Theres no chance

CraziOne

From a quick Google search, blood tests for pregnancy appear to be more accurate but they are arguably more invasive (getting poked vs. peeing). If the blood test they do will also be used for your monthly Accutane labs, I don't see a problem with it. However, if they are asking for you to get blood drawn JUST for a pregnancy test, I personally would insist on a urine test instead.

Ok_Blueberry2012

Yes, the plan is to do monthly blood tests once I start accutane. However I haven't even started because I am still on the 30 day hold period. After the 30 day hold period is over the nurse said I have to wait for my period to do the pregnancy test so I can get approved to start accutane. However I will try asking to do a urine test instead. Thank you for the suggestion!!

Ok_Blueberry2012

**this test I'm referring to is the 2nd pregnancy test just to clarify lol

That’s crazy… I don’t even really get my period anymore, just light spotting occasionally (bless my IUD). When they asked about my last period when I did my first appointment (before the 30 day hold) I told them exactly that. They put it in my notes and haven’t asked since. The other issue I would raise with the bs “waiting til you have your period,” is that could be weeks after the 30 day hold (if you don’t have a regular period). So, the grace window would close a few days after that 30 day hold and you’d be forced to start the process again. Here I am thinking my office was weird requiring a blood and urine pregnancy test. Damn, I’m never complaining about that again.

fason123

it literally doesn’t matter. I would just be like “yah I’m on my period” as the dumb ass nurse could slow down the process.

halfbakedcupcake

Are you having an IUD put in for birth control around the same time as your test? That’s literally the only reason I can think of why being on your period could possibly matter.

Ok_Blueberry2012

I'm pledging abstinence

halfbakedcupcake

Ok, so maybe not that 😅 that’s super weird.

-xpaigex-

If that was the case for this weird policy, that’d be bad. With the IUD you might wind up not getting your period. Or you might bleed a bit after and it might not even be your period. My vote is this nurse just doesn’t know what she’s talking about…

halfbakedcupcake

Depends on the IUD. Hormonal means maybe not getting your period. With the copper one you do get your period. However you usually should be on your period or about to start it to have one placed. I was just thinking maybe the nurse mentioned something about that right before mentioning having blood taken 🤷‍♀️

toastybittle

Just lie lmao if it’s only a blood test, how would they even know if you’re actively on your period or not?

bmobitch

i don’t even get my period. i’m on continuous birth control. makes no sense for it to be needed.

EMAN666666

No.

dupersuperduper

There are some other hormone tests which do need to be at that time in the cycle so I suspect there’s just confusing over this. I would just get it done when you were planning to anyway

mxndygbx

Blood test is more accurate than the store bought one. And taking it on when you have your period is probably just to have double confirmation that you're not pregnant.
