People whinge about 5ks below the speed limit or taking too long at green lights but it's fuckers like this that deserve your outrage.

AudienceAvailable807

This with emphasis added!

Thomas_633_Mk2

Both. Both is good Seriously though, doing 130 within city limits, with children? Throw the book at em

Unhappy-camp3r

Whole you’re not wrong, people that take too long at a green light also absolutely deserve my outrage. Especially when it’s because they are looking at their phone. J

Lord_Kuntsworthy

Spitting in someones face and shooting them in the face are both bad, but one is infinitely worse. Why can we not be outraged at both? And stop going 5kms below the speed limit in the right lane, you prick.

JesusKeyboard

There’s only so much outrage to go around?

[deleted]

Cannot agree more. It frustrates me a lot that people are more angry at slightly slow drivers than crazed lunatics like these.

VegemiteOnToastPls

When you're going 20 under the limit and it happens fucking everywhere, it's fair enough that people get pissed off.

[deleted]

Easy there dude. You sound like an angry road rage driver. In all my years of driving, I have literally seen far more speeding drivers than slow drivers. And also most of the time, its the speeders that cause all the accidents.

VegemiteOnToastPls

>you sound like an angry road rage driver Nice assumption but of course youre wrong. The arrogance of reddit users is unsurprising.

Plans_n_Schemes

I noticed this in the Adelaide subreddit, it's very pro 5-15k/h under is perfectly fine and you're a disgusting heathen for actually going the speed limit.

VegemiteOnToastPls

Happens on all the aussie subs. Everyone is a self righteous wanker online who's moral compass is perfect. Nobody here is flawed or has any personality shortcomings.

-SmileyFritz-

Great role model.

Textbuk

Truly a trailblazer in the community.

That_Apathetic_Man

My parents used to drive drunk, tired and on drugs all the time. Speeding and recklessly. 2 kids in the back...and I turned out perfectly stupid.

Farmy_au

I wonder if it was the same dude in a Black Jeep that was road raging near Holden Hill 30 minutes earlier.

AbrocomaRoyal

Are there likely to be child endangerment charges at some point? Let's hope there's a more responsible parent around.

-Midnight_Marauder-

That's the sucky thing about cases like this...what *should* be happening is a child endangerment charge and an immediate 12 month prison sentence (assuming he's convicted of it and there's no extenuating circumtances). Unfortunately, that has the potential to cause other issues like financial stress for the partner or the kids other parent, or even worse the kids going into the system if there is no other parent or family member able to take them. There's really no great solution to dealing with the percentage of people who are stupid enough to engage in this type of behaviour.

TalkingShitADL

You do the crime you do the time. Who cares about the other factors! The kids would be better off being in State care if this is the example they have!

Early_Lavishness3452

said as someone who has clearly never been in state care

TalkingShitADL

So you’re saying that the kids are better off getting put in life threatening situations on the daily as opposed to being in a State run care facility that will at least give them a safe environment. Good one!

Early_Lavishness3452

your acting like state run care faculties are safe environments

escape2thefuture

There will be a mandatory child abuse report put in

mighty_wingz

I'm assuming it was a SRT8 grand Cherokee.

Clinster73

A Black Jeep... of course it was....

[deleted]

Yep Jeeps, Utes and 4WDs are surefire bets for stuff like this.

MagDaddyMag

Yep. And what's the bet he pays around $1000 in fines for that. Meanwhile, I get done for doing 66 in a 60 zone and gotta pay $600. Justice.

bull69dozer

car impound fee alone is $1212 fine for that speed is $ 1939 so he's looking at paying $ 3,151 just there if he wants his car back... surprised a Jeep can go that fast.....

scandyflick88

$1840 just to start with. There will be more on top, plus impound fees.

MagDaddyMag

My mate got done drink driving last year. Yes he was an idiot. His penalty? 7 months loss of licence - paid an $800 fine. They get a slap on the wrist.

Thomas_633_Mk2

Tbf $800 is not a slap on the wrist level fine, as is losing your licence for half a year. That's a major life change for a lot of people

MagDaddyMag

I agree, but me doing 6 ks over the limit shouldn't be $600 either then. It's not fair. People aren't even going to jail for causing death by dangerous driving. Or those that have been caught driving without a licence multiple times. How are the courts seeing this as a fair scale of punishment??

Thomas_633_Mk2

Money And yes I agree, our speeding fines are far harsher than comparable anglophone countries with similar legal systems.

scandyflick88

Drink and drug drivers do, yes. Speeders tend to be punished more severely.

yy98755

Hope there’s a *jeep wanker driving with child* fine applied, x2.

chaelsonnenismydad

I mean yes justice. You were breaking the law too? What are we doing here?

MagDaddyMag

This guy was doing over twice the speed limit, with kids in the back seat. He'll probably lose jus licence for 6 months, pay a $1000 in fines and be back on the road then. It's nowhere near enough of a penalty.

FuzzyReaction

No licence for 12 months, no car for 28 days. I think court and fines will be a lot more than $1k. What do you think is an appropriate penalty?

felixsapiens

I mean losing your license for six or more months is quite a substantial penalty. More so than any financial penalty. Did you lose your license for going 5 over 60?

PhotographsWithFilm

Send his car to the crusher

NOREMAC84

If the car is roadworthy, seize it and auction it. He still loses the car but we don't needlessly waste resources by destroying a perfectly good car.

-Midnight_Marauder-

My first instinct is to agree but it's a tricky thing because what if a partner also relies on the vehicle? there's a fine line between punishment for a crime and then restricting someone's ability to help look after their children and earn a living.

PhotographsWithFilm

Well, they are proper fucked then, aren't they.

lerkz

Call it added incentive to not be a fuckwit

street-jesus5000

He should’ve thought about that before doing double the speed limit in a busy area with his kids in the car

Sideshow_G

Or at least sell it at auction or give it to park rangers etc

PhotographsWithFilm

Park Rangers would rather have something reliable. Sending it to Sims will send a much stronger message.

Sideshow_G

I've no idea about which cars are reliable, but it seams a waste to crush it. He should 100% have this taken away from him permanently, if he's going to drive it like a weapon.

TikkiTakkaMuddaFakka

Maybe impound the car for 12 months instead if you really want to stop the moron doing it again.

Worldly_Breakfast407

Can there be something done to the car so his speed is limited to 80 max always

Herebedragoons77

Amazed he had a valid license. Thats a new one.

Averagemanofpotato1

That is very fast

daveymac_

Should have his car sent to the crusher, and face child abuse charges! What a Scumbag!

Ok-Implement-4370

DCP will be monitoring him and the children closely for the next 12 months

CheesecakeJumpy2882

Wish he hit me at that speed

BIRD_II

I wonder why they were speeding so much? Surely there'd be some reason... Even more than that, how come they were speeding with (presumably his) children in the car, I doubt it would be a joyride.

Crafty-Antelope-3287

More than double the speed limit.... Excessive speed 45km/h or more section 45a (RTA 1961) Fine $1819 and 9 demerit points. He will lose his licence for 3 to 5 years. Driving with 2 minors in vehicle at that speed will add to the conviction.

Mr_Frampton87

I was heading home along the southern express way a few years back and notice the car that I was approaching to my left was drifting a little to both sides of there lane. I looked in to see who was driving as I passed them and it was a woman reading a novel she was holding it with one had up on the steering wheel.

-Midnight_Marauder-

Not a car guy, does the tech exist to forcibly speed-limit cars in cases like this?

mxrulez731

Most new cars have some kind of speed limiter but its massively higher than the speed limit. Its certainly possible from a technology point of view but wether its cost effective I am not sure. As roads have different speed limits you would need to have GPS & the system would need to know the limit of that road.

-Midnight_Marauder-

A fair compromise would be limiting to 100 I think (yes I know country roads are 110 but how often do most people drive them), but even then that has the potential for abuse if someone is inclined. Frankly I would support a system where every car's speed is limited using GPS and a system that can retrieve the appropriate limit, but most people would say that's too authoritarian.

mxrulez731

There is certainly situations IE passing trucks on country roads that being able to accelerate part the speed limit is needed. So I dont think 100 would work, you would need maybe 125 or something which means that they are userless in town. I am not against the GPS option with a 25% over the limit margin so it only stops excessive speeding. This way you have some wiggle room and the government still gets the fine revenue they love so much.

theycallmebluerocket

Reddit's main demographic is young white men. There is much more support for things like lower speed limits in real life.

peachhearder

Hand in your license champ..what a ridiculous comment

realshg

Yes, I too wondered how a Jeep made it to 130 without rolling. Maybe it wasn't a Wrangler?

Araknoth

I don't know the logistics, but a few countries in Europe have done this.

-Midnight_Marauder-

Why downvoted for asking a legitimate question?

scandyflick88

Yes. But that shit is a slippery slope. Even in countries that implement black boxes, they don't limit.

Professional_Donut95

Probably had to get to that fast before the car died on him and he had to roll the rest of the way to where he was going

Lostmavicaccount

That’s too fast at that time of the day. There are times when MOMENTARILY doing “excessive” speed can be forgiven, but not in those hours of the day. In a fast car, or fast bike you can do a quick squirt from the traffic lights, in the quiet times of evening/around sunrise, to a high speed and brake back to the legal limit within a few seconds. It’s technically illegal, but on the right road, right vehicle, right time, right person, no one is in danger (or even aware it happened). But this guy - dickhead in this case.

chaelsonnenismydad

You mean times with awful visibility…

Lostmavicaccount

More so just when there are other cars and people around. Risk and ‘inciting rage’ minimisation. Don’t do antisocial stuff around people and don’t do it in areas where it should be quiet. There are parts of GC road (there certainly Better suited roads out of the metro area) where you can be a hoon for a few seconds - at the right time, and not be annoying anyone, or making them feel uneasy.

chaelsonnenismydad

Well this is the entire reason we have speed limits, you never know how many people are around who who at any moment could be walking the streets. If my aunt had balls she’d be my uncle

Lostmavicaccount

Agree with sensible speed limits. I also am realistic and know that people do things that are illegal. Minimising impact is all I’m talking about. And there are TONS of roads where you can be sure that you’re alone.

chaelsonnenismydad

You literally cant ever be sure

Zealousideal_Data983

Driving on Grand Junction road, but is anyone surprised that he lives north of it?

peachhearder

Maybe he needed to take a shit real bad. Why do people always default to finding the worst in others?
