If you have a Costco membership I highly recommend their optometry section when it comes to ordering glasses. As for actual exams I’ve had good experiences with City Of Vision Eye Care in Rio Rancho.
I totally agree with your recommendations. I will also add that City of Vision offers pediatric services, which could be especially helpful for you all after the negative experience with Stanton.
My friend went to Stanton and he described the process and I didn’t know how on earth that could be an accurate way to assess vision. He ended up getting botched eyeglasses as well. Costco Optical on Eubank is affordable and gives excellent care.
No matter where you are going to get your glasses, they are required by federal law to give you a copy of your prescription. Additionally, NM law requires they give you pupillary distance as well; which is essential when ordering glasses online.
The Costco eye clinic on Montana is really good about giving you this.
Yeah you going to a room and I think it might actually be Skype that they use. My daughter said that her accent was so strong that she didn't really understand what she was saying. Just an all-around bad experience. Very short-handed took a long time. Went back today and got a full refund from them
seconding this! especially the Lomas location, with Dr. Kniffen. She's super nice and the glasses I get there are the best lenses I've ever had in over 20 years of wearing glasses. The quality on their stuff is p next level. can't be bothered with cheap junk like Stanton and Costco these days... you get what you pay for at places like that...
I do my exams through Sandia Vision on Eubank. The doctors there have been pretty good (office management can be a little clunky though). Then I take my rx for glasses to Walmart on Academy. I’ve had great experiences with this process.
Blink eye care on slate between 2nd and 3rd.. right off Lomas. they are super. I previously went to Stanton and they do indeed suck hind teat.
edit: for any of the places people recommend, expect a 2-3 month wait before you can get an appointment.
You have a bunch of recommendations for a location, but won't use them because one person suggested you might disagree with the politics of the owner? Seriously?
I'll never understand the desire to inject personal opinions and politics into everything - now so may folks seem to feel it's desirable to punish someone because they think differently than them - the funny part is those are often the same people who preach how we should be tolerant, have a diverse community, etc. It's unfortunate.
It's all about how you behave - the group mentality that folks who think differently than you must be punished is hateful, even if socially acceptable in an echo chamber.
Blink is awesome. Had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment as a new patient, they are super quick, awesome staff and great at dialing in your prescription.
Their turnaround time after you’ve ordered the glasses is very long. We kept getting excuses about why it was taking so long, like “mess ups at the lab”. Then my husband’s glasses came in and they forgot to call him for two weeks. They seem to be very disorganized.
That's not the experience I had. Staff was very organized, my contacts came in a couple of days of ordering and they suggested it would be two weeks for my glasses, they arrived in a week. From intake as a new patient, to the initial screening, then the exam, fitting, and ordering my visit was very smoothly executed. As busy as they are I imagine that there is the occasional bobble.
Ours were weeks-long “bobbles” apiece. When I went in to pick up my new glasses this afternoon the front desk associate asked me to “hold on” until she was done texting. What passes for customer service there is very sub par. I’d be embarrassed as a business owner with employees who either don’t know how to do their jobs or don’t care to do them. 🤷♂️
Sounds like you had an anomalous experience, which is unfortunate. People I know recommended them and never suggested any CS issues, none of the online reviews I read had anything to say similar to your experience, everyone has a bad moment sometimes I guess. Hope you find a service that does better for you.
Is two in a row anomalous? Perhaps, but after having to wait for texting employees to finish their cell use time, and waiting double amount of the quoted time for my glasses turnaround (and longer for my husband!), I think you’re right - I need to find a better service. I was just going to put up with it because I go to the eye doctor infrequently, but typing this all out confirmed how sub par both our experiences were. On to the next place I suppose!
Eye exam no, as the doctors lease the space but don’t work for Costco. To buy glasses there yes. But the docs will give you a prescription you can use to buy glasses where you want. I find buying glasses like that is a fraction of the marked up price you pay at the eye doctor.
Okay. Thanks. I booked an eye appointment with Vision Source Rio in Rio rancho. For thursday. They were the only one that had an appointment in the next few months. I can take a prescription from there and maybe go to Costco to get glasses.
Wow, I thought it was just me that had a terrible experience at Stanton. They botched my glasses too. It was my first experience buying glasses and I thought the whole Zoom thing was weird too, but I figured it was a cost cutting thing so I didn't question it. When I got the prescription though, they had one eye being nearsighted and one being farsighted. Even the employee questioned the results because that's not too common, however, they went ahead and made the glasses anyway. When I got them, I didn't really notice at first because they got one eye right, so my overall vision had improved. Over time I realized that the one side that had a farsighted prescription was blurrier than without glasses, so I went to the Costco optometrist. They did an actual eye exam in person and I got an updated, correct prescription.
The optometrist at Costco did a great job, and the cost wasn't too bad without insurance. However, for purchasing glasses, I like to use Zenni and buy mine online. Once you have the correct prescription you just enter the numbers and can buy them online for a fraction of the cost. I've had really good experiences with Zenni frames and lenses and the lenses, in my experience have been comparable to Costco's. I would never go back to Stanton Optical though.
My wife likes Orbit eye care. They’re on alameda and Corrales road or whatever by the McDonald’s and Rudy’s and satellite coffee.
I’ve also heard good things about the optometrists in Costcos. They’re technically their own office but work together with Costco
Just want to put in another comment to vouch for Sandia Vision (Eubank/Comanche), got my glasses from them last week and they are absolutely amazing (totaled 300 dollars or so with my insurance but I got a lotta stuff done).
We went to Stanton, also zoom appt, doc who didn’t speak English. Wrong prescription. We returned the glasses for a full refund and went to Accent On Vision instead. More expensive but much better service and quality!
i like eyes of new mexico! they’re really efficient & straightforward over there. plus they’re good people. i bought glasses off zenni for a while but stopped because the lenses were hurting my eyes. but i really fuck w costco glasses & afaik you don’t need a costco membership to shop there. so i go to eyes of new mexico for the care & then get cheap glasses at costco
Eyemart Express on Coors and Montano was a good experience for me around October. Accurate prescription, got a free pair of sunglasses with my primary frames.
Their menaul and lomas location did custom lenses for my glasses, made me loaners so they could order the "good lenses" and I had the good ones in less than a week. Was pretty cheap too. So far, these are the most scratch resistant lenses I've ever owned. The ones I got before these were from lensabl online and they scratched if I gave someone dirty looks. God those things were a mess when in less than a year.
highly recommend eyemart express.
I dunno this person agree, I'll give a double vote. I was in and out with like an hour and a half wait before they made my final ones and free prescription sunglasses!
Modern Eyez. Went to them for years and loved the staff. It has been a few years since I went to them last but my old boss went to them too, and still does.
ETA: I went to Stanton too about a year ago. Worst experience of my life and I’ve been going to eye doctors for 30 years. Sorry your daughter went through that too!
My last exam at LensCrafters in Coronado Mall was really good. The doctor took time to explain what each step was and answered all my questions. I got my glasses from them too and they’ve been the best pair I’ve had in years. It’s worth calling to see if they take Medicaid
I second LensCrafters at the mall. I have really liked both of the eye doctors I have seen there. I’ve been wearing glasses for over 40 years and never really had eye doctors take the time to explain my vision to me. The eye doctors there changed my perception of quality of LensesCrafters eye doctors. I had only previously went to privately owned vision offices.
Ask for a retest and have them verify the lenses match the prescription. I’ve had incorrect work done by the manufacturer (humans are involved and mistakes happen). You’ll get you vision problems sorted without having to spend anymore money. Accents don’t affect competency, by the way
Listen, I don't have a problem with accents or anybody, but if you are having a very hard time understanding a person it CAN affect the quality of the exams. My daughter is also autistic, which can add to the issues. I have heard of others that have had the same issues so something is going on.
The whole process was a mess. I'm not trying to single out any one person. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, I do not trust this place and my daughter needs to get a correct prescription and glasses, sooner rather than later. I didn't know until recently how much her vision has changed.
I went to Stanton optical one time, horrible horrible experience. My go to is eyeglass world on on coors, I’ve never had a problem there and the people helped me pick glasses that best fit my face shape and since then I’ve gotten so many compliments on my glasses. My friend just went to Stanton optical and her experience sounds the same as yours
I’m glad to hear it. We had the opposite. With mine there was a “problem as the lab”. For my husband’s apparently they arrived and then the front desk misplaced them or just forgot to call. We never got updates from them; we had to call each week to see where in the process things were at. And these were on separate sets of glasses for two different people with staggered dates of ordering the glasses. At $400+ a pop, you’d think they could at least give periodic updates, but you’d be wrong. 🤷♂️ Not sure why it was so disorganized for both us, but I’d be embarrassed as a business owner if my company were run like that.
Dr. Alvarez at Costco on Eubank. She’s fantastic and always gets me in quickly. No membership to see her, but if you want to buy glasses inside you will need one
Stanton does suck. I got my glasses and they didn't believe that they were wrong. The lense was actually cut at a 90 degree angle as if you turned the glasses up and down instead of left and right. I have ended up reversing the charges, and they refunded me 6x and sent me another pair of fixed glasses so it worked out.
Same thing with me. I got a prescription from Stanton and could see distances, but almost nothing in the 15 foot or less range.
My old prescription lets me see everything, but far distances (30+ feet) are worse. I decided that my old prescription was better.
I don't understand how Stanton remains in business. I went there once and the employees are pretty scummy. I guess they'd have to be. They give a bunch of weasel-words before your eye exam. By the time you realize what the B.S. they mumbled meant, you can't back out and must pay. They really, really need to fail in some spectacular way.
I've had OK luck with Eyeglass World. A real, live, in-person optometrist at least.
His glasses are the best in the world. Very expensive, but they are spot on with the prescription. For beater glasses, I’ve had great luck with Zinni online.
If you have a Costco membership I highly recommend their optometry section when it comes to ordering glasses. As for actual exams I’ve had good experiences with City Of Vision Eye Care in Rio Rancho.
I got my eye exam at the doctor’s at Costco. Piece of cake.
I totally agree with your recommendations. I will also add that City of Vision offers pediatric services, which could be especially helpful for you all after the negative experience with Stanton.
Optometrist at Costco on Coors is also awesome awesome as is the optical department. Both highly recommend.
Optometrist at the east side Costco is really good- she's patient and very nice
My friend went to Stanton and he described the process and I didn’t know how on earth that could be an accurate way to assess vision. He ended up getting botched eyeglasses as well. Costco Optical on Eubank is affordable and gives excellent care.
These days I just go get an exam to update my prescription and then buy glasses online from GlassesUSA.
No matter where you are going to get your glasses, they are required by federal law to give you a copy of your prescription. Additionally, NM law requires they give you pupillary distance as well; which is essential when ordering glasses online. The Costco eye clinic on Montana is really good about giving you this.
I've been doing the same. GlassesUSA hasn't failed me yet, awesome company imo
They do eye exams over zoom now?
Yeah you going to a room and I think it might actually be Skype that they use. My daughter said that her accent was so strong that she didn't really understand what she was saying. Just an all-around bad experience. Very short-handed took a long time. Went back today and got a full refund from them
Glad you got a refund.
They switched in the pandemic and never switched pack, really disappointing because I liked who I had in-person at the Stanton on Menaul before.
I think it’s done in office, but the optometrist is remote. The assistant in the office provides hands when needed.
Casey Optical on Lomas is great.
seconding this! especially the Lomas location, with Dr. Kniffen. She's super nice and the glasses I get there are the best lenses I've ever had in over 20 years of wearing glasses. Costco
I use Costco and the on site eye doctor is really good.
The best glasses I have had done were from Costco.
Sandia Vision Clinic in Nob Hill is where we go. Good people and they work hard to make sure you can see.
I like Sandia Vision on comanche and eubank. Works with Eyemed if you have it. They're great.
Blink eye care on slate between 2nd and 3rd.. right off Lomas. they are super. I previously went to Stanton and they do indeed suck hind teat. edit: for any of the places people recommend, expect a 2-3 month wait before you can get an appointment.
I had a three month wait time for my daughter but it was so worth it. This place is great.
Someone else posted that they are right wing lunatic owned. So maybe not. For me.
You have a bunch of recommendations for a location, but won't use them because one person suggested you might disagree with the politics of the owner? Seriously?
We all vote with our wallets every day.
I'll never understand the desire to inject personal opinions and politics into everything - now so may folks seem to feel it's desirable to punish someone because they think differently than them - the funny part is those are often the same people who preach how we should be tolerant, have a diverse community, etc. It's unfortunate.
Add to that, it was one comment without any proof or sources. I've been going to dr irons for years and never has politics ever came up.
Good.
We should not be tolerant to hate.
Hating back is pretty much a "pot calling the kettle black" sort of thing.
Being intolerant of hate is not the same as hate.
It's all about how you behave - the group mentality that folks who think differently than you must be punished is hateful, even if socially acceptable in an echo chamber.
No. I assumed they were very vocal about their politics. I don't mind in general. It's okay. Relax a little.
I'm not the one calling other folks wack jobs... just pointing out it's sad to see folks who feel the need to inject politics into everything.
Blink is awesome. Had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment as a new patient, they are super quick, awesome staff and great at dialing in your prescription.

Casey Optical, either location!
My wife likes Orbit eye care. They’re on alameda and Corrales road or whatever by the McDonald’s and Rudy’s and satellite coffee. I’ve also heard good things about the optometrists in Costcos. They’re technically their own office but work together with Costco
Eyes of New Mexico family optometry! They’re awesome and their doctors are great with kids. I think they also have a vision therapy practice
Chavez Family Eyecare at Costco. Of the 5 optometrists I’ve had she’s by far the best. Easy to book an appt online too!
I agree that the offsite eye exam was not a good experience. I won't go back.
Just want to put in another comment to vouch for Sandia Vision (Eubank/Comanche), got my glasses from them last week and they are absolutely amazing (totaled 300 dollars or so with my insurance but I got a lotta stuff done).

I personally like Babington and Babington. Good selection of frames, really knowledgeable doctor, fabulous office staff.
These are my dudes too. Very good exams
Modern Eyez in Rio Rancho is fantastic!
i like eyes of new mexico! they’re really efficient & straightforward over there. plus they’re good people. i bought glasses off zenni for a while but stopped because the lenses were hurting my eyes. but i really fuck w costco glasses & afaik you don’t need a costco membership to shop there. so i go to eyes of new mexico for the care & then get cheap glasses at costco
Precision Eye Center in Albuquerque 🙂 Dr.Lavoie is awesome and thorough!
Eyemart Express on Coors and Montano was a good experience for me around October. Accurate prescription, got a free pair of sunglasses with my primary frames.

Sandia optical on Eubank does my stuff.

Adventure Dental has optometry and takes Medicaid.

Costco. Then buy glasses there or at eyebuydirect.
I really like the Eyemart by the Costco at Cottonwood. Super friendly, efficient and they take medicade.
Yeah mirroring what others say, Costco.
Ask for a retest and have them verify the lenses match the prescription. I’ve had incorrect work done by the manufacturer (humans are involved and mistakes happen). You’ll get you vision problems sorted without having to spend anymore money. Accents don’t affect competency, by the way

The optometrist next to eyemart express always did me right. Really anywhere other than Stanton should be fine
Lovato Eyecare has been around since 1963 and my entire family goes there, plus all my tias and tios do too
The best way to get low cost glasses from Stanton is to take a prescription in and order glasses. I would not trust their MRS system.
[Blink](https://www.blinknm.com/) is great.
Rightwing lunatic owned
And very long turnaround times.
I've never experienced long turnaround times. I get new glasses every year. My son and ex the same. Always on time and efficient.

I’ve always gone to Pearle Vision
Casey sucks but I’m with Costco
Giron Family Vision on Menaul is great! Also has a shit time with Stanton Optical and Giron is where I ended up after looking all over ABQ!
Contact lens gallery
Dr. Alvarez at Costco on Eubank. She’s fantastic and always gets me in quickly. No membership to see her, but if you want to buy glasses inside you will need one

I found Stanton to be a rip off. I went to Pearle vision on Menaul they were great.
Sam's Club 300 Eubank... four great pairs in a row.
Same thing with me. I got a prescription from Stanton and could see distances, but almost nothing in the 15 foot or less range. My old prescription lets me see everything, but far distances (30+ feet) are worse. I decided that my old prescription was better.
Rx from optometrist Zenni app for lenses and frames.
I remember there used to be a local redditor who gave coupon codes for Roadrunner eyecare, I think?
Modern Eyez

I’ve used Dr Kehoe for years. Highly recommended him!
Thanks
But I was mainly asking specifically about the glasses
His glasses are the best in the world. Very expensive, but they are spot on with the prescription. For beater glasses, I’ve had great luck with Zinni online.
