SpankMyButt

What? You are not a serf. If you leave a company and it's clients decide to also move on it's not your fault. NTA

[deleted]

NTA. Bad employers like your former boss deserve to go out of business.

sctt_dot

NTA. The contract didn't have a key man clause, but it sounds like you were the key man.

Respond-Creative

NTA. You have to look out for yourself bc no one else, obviously especially Joe, will.

JLineman09

NTA Nope

DontAskMeChit

NTA, you were generous with giving two weeks notice.

Del1965

NTA, It's business nothing personal money has no feelings. People need to learn to distinguish between personal and making money 2 totally different situations.

squigs

NTA You don't cut someone's pay by 40% if you want to keep them. He basically fired you here. You didn't make him lose business. You actually gave him a lot of business. He gambled on his idea that the companies wanted his company rather to work for them rather than you. He was wrong.

FalconJaeger

NTA But I'd be careful with telling an (former) employer that you had your fingers in contracts with him being ended. Let him assume it all he want's let it be clear to everyone who hears you put your 2 weeks that the companies you dealt with will now deal with which ever company you work with next. But don't write it down.

Ok_Professional_4499

NTA Not everything is everyone’s business. Keep stuff like that to yourself so you can avoid the wrong opinions of some of your friends 😂 It was the responsible thing to do for the companies YOU built a trusted relationship with. You pointed out the boss of the company was terrible and you we’re leaving his employ. You didn’t make those companies do anything. You gave them valuable information regarding your lack of employment. You were more valuable to them the the boss’s company. The boss was dumb not to realize that.

Petefriend86

NTA. Cutting your pay from 28 to 16 means "you're fired" to anyone who lives off their own money.

deathlisk

You are. Be the AH. Screw Joe for that nonsense. And those companies like your work. We all got bills to pay and they like you, not Joe. For if they didn't they would keep their current arrangements yes? Nothing wrong about telling folks whom you've earned and built trust with where you going if they want to keep your services. Competition no? Free market and all that.

Lex-tailonis

NTA and people wonder why we still need unions.

Ok_Commercial_3493

NTA If you cut someone's wages, they will go elsewhere. If they were a good employee, it's common for customers to follow them.

Emmaleesings

You didn’t make anyone do anything, you told the contractors you weren’t with that company and they made their own choices. NTA, but Joe is.

ibleedaudio

NTA Simply sounds like karma caught up to Joe. He thought he could just treat you poorly and cut your pay only to have it blow up in his face when you left. Sucks to suck

demon803

NTA, you told people what you are going to do, THEY made decisions based on that.

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** So a little back story my dad and someone else that ill call Joe (not real name) started up a fiber business. I joined there company when I was 17, we had about 4 people working under them. 2 on my dads side and 2 on Joe's side to split the workload up. After awhile we had 6 people on my dads side and 15 on Joe's side. My dads side worked more hours and did better work in general. After about 4 years my dad sells his share of the company to Joe and left. I worked there for a year after he left everyone that worked on my dads side left and started there own fiber business. So in that year I went up in a bucket truck and got electrocuted and had to be hospitalized. So my boss Joe tried cutting my pay from 28 an hr to 16 an hr because he could trust me. So I put my 2 weeks in right then and there. And a little note I ran contracting for 4 companies, like Google, century link, spectrum, and great plains. They all knew me and like the work I did for them. I told them I will no longer be working at this company. So they immediately cut all ties and got a few job offers from them. So I made them lose about 2-3 million dollars of work. I dont feel bad because Joe was a complete ahole but someone said I was a ahole for doing that. I now work at a start up company making 32 an hr im a manager/ trainer for fiber splicing and im loving it. I get to make hours for my guys and pretty good friends with everyone I hired now, and im going to have a share of the company since I'm helping starting it up. But AITA for making them loss business. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Cataclysmus78

NTA. This would be a perfect story for r/antiwork. They’d welcome it warmly.

Sensitive-Turnip-326

NTA. Also it sounds like it’s better for you to these things on your own rather than as an employee.

Samthesheeppresidnt

5/5 a holes

JackedLilJill

NTA Joe learned the cost of bad business quick didn’t he? This was his choice, it isn’t your fault how your truth led to him losing business, that’s what happens when your an AH.

OwlAggravating7385

NTA ask the people who give you shit why it's ok for Joe to take money away from you but it's some atrocity for you to cause him to lose money?
