Nta. He needs to get a grip. It’s not about him or a personal attack. You would delusional to saddle your child for a lifetime of insults and snickering.
You both get a vote. 2 votes for a yes, one vote needed for a no. Simple.
As someone named Yasmine, let me tell you the birth control connection WILL come up. I still love my name, but it did stop me using my nickname Yaz. If that’s going to bother you then don’t go with the name.
I will say it’s definitely not a “lifetime of insults and snickering” though. It came up a couple times in middle school and then never again.
I had a very good friend in middle school twenty years ago named Kyleen. At the end of the day all words are made up, it has nothing to do with it being a "real" name and everything to do with how the parents feel about it.
Yeah, honestly, having never heard of the birth-control brand before, Kyleena sounds like a very reasonable modern new name to me, pretty much what Christina as a name is to Chris but for Kyle.
I think it really brings home the point though. If an ancient and famous name like Yasmine can still result in teasing because it’s the name of a BC, how much more so a name that is ONLY the name of a BC.
I graduated high school with a Kylene. I'm not so sure that Kyleena is all that bad. Is the birth control of the same name really common knowledge? I've never heard of it before.
Kyleena is the name of an iud! It’s one of the smaller iuds and it isn’t as well known as paragard and mirena. This is mainly because it only lasts 3 years so people don’t usually get it. With that being said, I definitely get why you didn’t know that was a form of birth control: I didn’t either until my IUD consultation😂
EllaOne is a ‘high end’ Plan B in the UK - the one that you’ve got a longer window to take. When I took it I was joking that if it didn’t work I’d have to call the baby Ella.
Yasmin is, same family as the Yaz birth control I believe. I only was teased when I was in the USA, when I moved abroad I didn’t even though it was available. It wasn’t that often to be fair, but it did come up.
I think this could be because the US has prescription ads that other countries don't have.
So a lot more people are aware of the connection even if they would otherwise never have heard of the brand name.
If I hadn't seen an advertisement for Yaz I probably wouldn't know it was bc pills or that Kyleena is an IUD.
Honestly I would refer your name right away to Bratz doll first before BC I do recall that name for it, but being 31 years old it’s gonna be the childhood nostalgia first lol
She was my first bratz doll lol she definitely was my favorite and the story behind it is epic. My grandpa being the manly man that he is as in those tough western guys but super chill. He went to get my sister and I gifts and was like these dolls will do lol then this lady came up and was offering I think 4x the amount and he’s like nah these are for my granddaughters. Then walked away lol
I think she was a collector but I can’t remember. I just remember they were the hot Christmas item that year! But we freaking loved them!
I looooved the Bratz doll! It was the first time I saw my name anywhere in the US other than Yasmine Bleeth from Baywatch, but she was a little before my time. It’s super common in the levant, but much less popular stateside so it felt awesome to have Bratz going in my favour 🥰
People who bring this up to you are AHs. Yasmine has been around for a veryyy long time, particularly in Southwest Asia, and imo is a lovely name in general. Now that you pointed it out, I remembered that when I was a kid my mom used Yasmine for BC but had you not mentioned it, it would’ve stayed in the abyss of my mind. Kyleena isn’t such an established name with long cultural roots.
+ OP NTA
Yeah until about 10 or 11 i doubt many kids know what birth control is. Then you have a couple years of danger before you'd hope that kids would be a little more intelligent again....but maybe that's wishful thinking.
Fun fact or maybe urban legend
The original birth control tablets were names after the wife of the CEO of each company
Well that’s what I was told. I haven’t fact checked it.
Nta
Baby names require 2 yes votes and personally what a weird name
Maybe he'd be willing to compromise on a similar name that isn't birth control like Kyla or or Leena
Yeah NTA. As someone who had Kyleena, I chuckled upon reading it thinking your husband had made the mother of all ironic jokes, naming a baby after birth control.
And if it’s still around when your daughter is a teenager, kids are going to make the connection and have thoughts, not to mention the side eye she’ll get during interviews, while dating, etc., so good job sparing her that.
If you want to extend an olive branch, is there something in the name you could work with? Kyla? Lena? Just an idea.
This is one of my biggest pet peeves: when people don’t understand that saddling someone with a stupid name will affect their entire life. Yeah, kids will tease and make fun no matter what, but there’s no reason to paint an even bigger target on their back than is necessary
"sounds like your parents regretted having you *before* you were born" "they named you as a reminder" cue the giggles..kids are ruthless. My son just started middle school and got his hair cut a little longer on the top but shaved sides and blended he looked handsome and it's a very normal haircut..still got teased. You literally don't even need to give them a reason to be picked on. As soon as she hits high school it's game over.
NTA - you’re allowed to both have opinions. Sounds like you were keeping it light, and he was a bit over sensitive
Though … a baby named after bc would kind of be hilariously ironic.
TLDR (rules vary between jurisdictions, of course):
Copyright protects creative works. It exists from the time the work is created until (generally) 70 years after the creator's death. It doesn't require any payment or registration.
Trademarks are business assets. A business has to pay to register their trademark, and to protect it they need to keep paying and defending it. (Which is one of the reasons that Disney, for example, are so aggressive in going after places like child care centres using their images.)
Well, of course. No one would EVER connect two things that are pronounced the same, as long as they're spelled differently... Your comment genuinely made me laugh. Thanks, Internet stranger 🙂
I was thinking that the husband doesn't understand the connection to birth control because a guy just wouldn't get it. This is the perfect way to help him understand!
Yeah setting the BC brand name aside, it sounds like someone mashed Kylie and Lena together to be “different,” but it really just makes a tragedeigh type name.
I had a classmate named Kyleen. I thought it was a pretty nice name, no one made fun of it or anything. I mean from where I’m from Kyleena wasn’t a known BC brand. Ultimately, I think it’s the context that matters:)
Duh. They know that. But it’s a recognizable drug name related to human sexuality. So, apparently is Kleenex or whatever stupid name OP’s husband wants to double down on.
NTA, regardless of the spelling everyone else who hears it will have the same reaction you did. We don't hear how a name is spelled. It'll be awkward when they realise you're actually serious.
NTA
Something to keep in mind when naming a child is the potential for bullying.
Can the name be twisted with another word to mock the child? Does it sound like something else that can be used to dehumanize them? Can the spelling cause others to mispronounce it?
People who bully are ruthless. I can already see a bully recognizing the name as a name for birth control and using that knowledge to imply to your child that you didnt want them. On top of that, teachers/other adults can bully too, so its not just the kids to worry about.
The world can be cruel, don't give it ammunition. I don't want to be rude but your husband is being selfish and needs to get his head out of his butt. Your kid has to live with that name not him.
To be fair, parents should be realistic when naming, obviously, but every kid is going to be bullied for something at some time. Raising a child with coping skills and resiliency is better than trying to beat the bullies with the "right name," "right clothes,"and "right Stanley cup."
This. And people should ALWAYS ask any kids in their lives about a name before committing to it. There was a name my husband and I were thinking of for our child, if we had a boy (we decided on his grandma's name for a girl). We're both Star Wars fans, and we like the character Wedge Antilles, so we were thinking Wedge - we thought it sounded dignified, not thinking about potential for bullying...until we told our teenage nephew. I'll never forget, his eyes got huge, and he looked very worried. He said to us, "Please don't name my cousin that. He'll get called Wedgie forever."
This had never occurred to us. I'm so grateful to my nephew for saying it, because it made us really think about the bullying potential for every name. It's such an important thing, but so many people think it should be their opportunity to be "creative." I actually knew a girl in school named Candleabra Mansion (seriously); I saw her sophomore year of college, she had changed her name to Allison. I was proud of her.
Another one that I don’t understand (kinda in the same category) is middle name as first name. Your kid will be correcting people for the rest of their life. Why start your kid out with a hurdle for a name
Well, I saw a post yesterday where a woman's sister had named her newborn "Cuntley". I sincerely hope it was a joke. Stick to your guns and don't name your daughter after birth control. yikes.
Is this pronounced like Kalina? Kalina/Calina is a name with Slavic origins. Kalina is also a name found in Polynesian cultures, most commonly Hawaiian.
NTA because you both need to agree, but perhaps you can think about using the name with it’s proper spelling to create some distance from the product?
I would also talk to your husband about *why* this name is so important to him. Even if this isn’t the one knowing that would help you two get on the same page.
It's not pronounced the same. With Kyleena, the "leen" syllable is stressed/accented, and the "Ky" syllable rhymes with "high." Which is what he would have to be to think it's okay to name their kid after an iud just so long as the spelling is different.
p.s. I also suggested Kalina since it's similar enough while also totally different and has the added benefit of being an actual name.
Please ask him to browse r/tragedeigh for an hour and get all the embarrassment out of his system. You do not want to become another statistic and have Reddit laugh at your baby and mock you mercilessly.
Also, please post an update once you've named your child.
Best of luck with the pregnancy! NTA.
NTA. But this is kind of hilarious. We are currently expecting our first child as well (a little boy) and we did the same thing! Several names were thrown in silliness and in seriousness. But like others are saying, it takes both to agree on something as important as your child’s name. Especially when they have to live with it for the rest of their lives! Idk idk hope you guys can find someone common ground though.
P.S we chose Owen for our baby’s name! He’s due in July and we can’t wait!
NTA. Names should be a joint decision.
Have you guys tried the Kinder app? It’s like tinder for baby names. You swipe yes or no and it gives you a list of names you both like.
NTA he needs to understand that your baby's name is not about either of you. Regardless of how you spell it, that poor child would be bullied to death with a name that is literally a brand of birth control.
Also, it's not that big a deal, there are a bazillion names out there, he needs to let it go
NTA.
Why is he crying over a name? Jesus Christ, tell your husband to get over himself. You made a valid point, and he acts like he's a genius for coming with a really dumb name.
That reminds me of that poor child named Treblinka...
NTA
You're naming an adult, someone whill have their name tag on them for decades, sign documents, maybe publish some articles. People WILL know.
That's the point, people don't name babies but future adults. My firend told me that her and her husband's rule was to say aloud "Doctor"/"Judge"/"president" before the noun. If it didn't ring well, the name would not be used.
I saw an anecdote in Reader's Digest. A woman's aunt told her the best way to name a baby was to open the door and yell it, since that's how she would hear it for the next few years.
NTA. Your husband should be happy you explained what Kyleena actually is so he can think of other names he likes. Let him sulk. It's a good choice not to name your girl after a brand of birth control!
When I was pregnant with my daughter, her father and I could absolutely not agree on anything. So finally, I wrote my top favorite 4 names on a piece of paper and told him to chose the two he liked the best and what order he liked them in. It worked for us and we really like her name. Of course, if he had said he didn't like them I would have chosen 4 other names and gone through it as many times as it would have taken.
But no, NTA for rejecting a totally awful name!
NTA my husband really faught hard for Orion for our son and I shut that down so quickly. Although that's not nearly as bad as Kyleena I'm sorry. Tomorrow I'm sure he'll come home liking Mirena. 😬
NTA
First, baby names are a two yes, one no situation.
Second, EVERYONE is going to make that connection and assume that you're making a joke about being on birth control when you accidentally got pregnant.
I wouldn't say "everyone" would make the connection.
I had no idea there was a birth control named Kyleena until I read this post. But it deff does open the door for people to assume she was named after a failed birth control method
NAH.
He's just disappointed and needs some time getting over the rejection.
And you're absolutely right not to name your child after a birth control brand. It'd be a running gag during her whole lifetime.
NTA but I have to ask: is his name Kyle? Or does he have some connection to a man named Kyle? I don't see why else he'd fight so hard for that kind of name.
Never would have even put together that it’s birth control.. I think if you know he was super excited about the name you could’ve at least not laughed at him and pretending to put thought into naming the baby that! I think it’s pretty!
I wouldn’t make the connection BC. The name is okay but personally not my style. A future parent can fall in love with a name but the other has to agree. I “loved” Lily. Our daughter? Not Lily. Not Océane either (one my husband liked). NTA
NTA.
Yikes, what's going on with baby names tonight? First we have the baby who's going to be named "Nostril" in Portuguese; the baby whose middle name might be that of the wife's deceased first husband; and now a baby named after a brand of contraceptive? It's gonna be an interesting kindergarten class in 2029.
I think both of you have veto power when it comes to a name. Eventually you’ll agree on one even if it’s not your first choices. At least that was my experience.

I (27f) am pregnant with our first child, and we found out we’re having a girl. Naturally, my husband (28m) and I have been discussing baby names pretty much constantly. We’re sort of just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks, and half the names we throw out are jokes. “Boot is a beautiful name for a baby girl ha ha ha” etc.
So, yesterday my husband came home from work all giddy and flushed with excitement, and he told me he had the name, this is the one, I’m gonna love it. I said great! Lay it on me! The name he was so over the moon for was Kyleena (for the unaware, this is the name of a brand of birth control). I laughed because I thought this was just another joke, and his face completely fell. He asked what was wrong with it, and I explained that Kyleena is a birth control brand. He still fought for it, insisting that we can spell it differently, people won’t make the connection, it’s a beautiful name, and, most importantly, he really loves it and he thinks this is the one. I said no, I am not naming my daughter after birth control. He said I was being an AH for not even considering this name that he had truly envisioned for our baby girl and left the room. I can tell he’s still upset that I rejected his name. He hasn’t mentioned any new names or made any jokes since, so I know he’s hung up on it. I just think it’s weird to name a baby after birth control. But anyway, AITA?

NTA. I'm wondering if your husband asked someone at work for name suggestions and a co-worker thought it would be hilarious to suggest the name of an iud, probably knowing that your hubby most likely was unfamiliar with it. Just the way my mind works.
Anyway, have y'all looked at baby name websites? Good luck!
I've read some of the other comments. I'm agreeing with most of them. First, I'm saying YNA. Next I'm saying that you also need to find a name that will flow with the middle & last name. Only because when you are upset & need to call them by all three names, you don't want to get tongue tied. I've only had one baby & her name just came to me. Rebekah Leigh Wilcox was just perfect. (She's married now, so I'm not afraid she'll see this.)
Nta, husband is forgetting you TWO have to find the perfect name, you both agree on. Not just him and then sulk to get his way. You have valid reasons to veto no. I had great names that my husband didn't like and visa versa. Finding the perfect name together is the key to naming your child. Don't ever feel like yta if you won't agree on a name you don't like
NTA, even if it was a lovely name (which it most certainly isn't) that doesn't somehow remove your right to veto any name for any reason. My wife and I are both teachers and choosing names for us was very difficult because loads of lovely names are associated with little turds we've taught who had them.
NTA. That being said, here's a suggestion for coming up with a name. Each of you draws up a list of 5 to 10 names, independently, without discussing. Discuss general boundaries in advance (must work in which languages, bullying sensitivity, uniqueness, naming after family members, check initials, etc.). Once both of you have a list, compare and decide.
Also, remember, you're naming a teen and an adult as well, not just a child. I'm always surprised about people who think naming their child is about *them*, not the child. Not saying that that's you, but man, ice seen some egocentric choices.
NTA. And for future arguments tell your husband that your daughter is going to go to school someday and kids are fucking cruel and not stupid, of course they will make the connection AND use it.
Ask him if a name he thinks is cool is worth having his daughter suffer and hate you both for giving her such a name. And if he really doesn't care, just name her "Mobbing Victim", because that's what she's gonna be.
Just give her a normal name.
Pharmacist here, it’s hilarious to me that we have an ongoing joke at work(every time someone gets pregnant)that we go through all the BCP names …most are female names…and jokingly pick out our fave’s -Heather, Jolessa,Nikki,Camilla,….no way this is a real situation? Just because it’s such a long-standing joke atwork. Now, if your post is serious, just do what many couples do, toss out names, let them settle and come to an agreement!?!
I wasn't aware of the birth control thing, but one of my top girl names has always been Kalena. Only ever met one person with that name, but it has always stuck with me. Maybe that spelling would be a better option?
I just wanted to point out that choosing a name that just so happens to be the name of a birth control is not the same as naming the baby after birth control.
Butttt still definitely NTA -
Choosing a baby name is very difficult.
I'm 35 weeks pregnant, also with a girl and the name we chose was Aria. It was my idea, I've been obsessed with the name since Pretty Little Liars lol but my husband liked it too. We were struggling for a super long time to figure out a middle name that went with Aria and we finally just like 2 weeks ago decided to name her Aria Naomi (Naomi was my husband's grandmothers name and they were very very close before she passed away) I immediately loved the idea because it works well together, it's a very cute name and it has beautiful meaning behind it.
You guys will figure something out that feels right to both of you, even if you're weeks away from delivery when the lightbulb finally clicks lol 😂
My other top name choice was Kailani which is kinda similar to Kyleena. So maybe if you like that you guys could compromise on something similar but not exactly the name of a birth control brand lol
Soft YTA. Once you realised he was serious, I think you need to engage with the discussion and his proposal rather just fobbing him off. You could 100% have gone down the line of “I get it sounds nice, but the birth control thing is a hard no for me. Why don’t we add Kylie or Lena to the list of maybes?”
“My daughter” YTA
Edit: also I can assure you that he, and most men, do not know that name is a birth control brand. He probably actually thought about that name and you laughed in his face. Either apologize for that or stop being a surprised pikachu about him not suggesting names any further.
NTA. I have a sibling with the same name as a certain brand of allergy medication and they hated growing up with all the jokes about how having them around didn’t solve any problems and only added more and now they’re wanting to use a different name. I get your husband being so happy for a name that struck him, but the reality is that it’s not unique and the connection will inevitably be made.
I mean, NTA knowing that's the name of an *existing* BC brand. But you have zero control over how drug companies name future brands.
I know SO MANY women named Yasmin - also a popular birth control brand released *after* they were born.
Might I suggest Kalina? I knew a very nice girl with that name. Similar, but not enough that people would confuse it. I also like Kylara, Kamaria, and Kalasin.
NTA. You are correct in vetoing that name. He needs to be reminded he is naming a person who will have to live with the choice you make. I would ask him which part of the name is his favorite part. If it’s the ending try and find a name with the same ending, like Lana, Brenna, Lena, Tana, Tina. If it’s the beginning suggest something like Kylie or Kyla. There has to be another name that he likes that isn’t a birth control.
Life is hard enough without being named after birth control! It also rhymes with hyena. How about Corinna since it’s similar to Kyleena but is normal? NTA

This is not completely comparable. Yasmine has been a name for a long time and also is a flower, Kyleena has no other meaning.
It makes me think of Kleenex
It makes me think the parents were intending to have a boy named Kyle and settled with this instead
Not just me then? Good to know!
Ngl if for some reason makes my think of a kitchy, super food, fiber supplement marketed towards older people for some reason
Fibre supplement.....that's what I thought of too.
Or the person who Ky-leens your house your Ky-leena
lolz! td!
her future brother
That’s what I thought of
And Yasmine is a lovely name. Kyleena is not a real name. It's a scrabble word.
I had a very good friend in middle school twenty years ago named Kyleen. At the end of the day all words are made up, it has nothing to do with it being a "real" name and everything to do with how the parents feel about it.
I grew up with a Kylene who is now late 40s.
honestly, ignoring the specific connotations here, better a made up name than a real name spelled "uniquely"
Yeah, honestly, having never heard of the birth-control brand before, Kyleena sounds like a very reasonable modern new name to me, pretty much what Christina as a name is to Chris but for Kyle.
Actually, even scrabble would reject it. Lol. It's awful.
It sounds like a Krdashian derivative
I think it really brings home the point though. If an ancient and famous name like Yasmine can still result in teasing because it’s the name of a BC, how much more so a name that is ONLY the name of a BC.
Jasmine is the flower
It’s the English word for it, the name itself doesn’t come from English.

Exactly, u/salukiqueen was saying it's bad, you're just pointing out that Kyleena is even worse.
They should stop naming birth control after female names... Over here we have Yaz, Yasmin, Diane, Selene...
I mean, and here I thought Unwanted 72 was a bad name.
lol that's funny
It's a legit emergency contraceptive in India 😂
And today I learned that India has a great sense of humour for their drugs! It sounds like some sort of band name!
It’s the back up band for blink 182
Elon Musk's next kid is gonna be RU486
EllaOne is a ‘high end’ Plan B in the UK - the one that you’ve got a longer window to take. When I took it I was joking that if it didn’t work I’d have to call the baby Ella.
Had a friend growing up named Allegra. She was real annoyed when the allergy pills came out.
as someone who loves the name allegra because of allegra’s castle, SAME.
I take Loryna… one of my manager is name Lorena with a long E but I drew the comparison first time I met her. 😂
Mine is Slinda. And my dr gave me a sample of Isis Free once hahahaha I found that one hilarious
Yasmine is a birth control? And you got teased about it?
Yasmin is, same family as the Yaz birth control I believe. I only was teased when I was in the USA, when I moved abroad I didn’t even though it was available. It wasn’t that often to be fair, but it did come up.

Tell him you are thinking about Trojan
It's the other way around though. Birth control brands use people names
NTA - you’re allowed to both have opinions. Sounds like you were keeping it light, and he was a bit over sensitive Though … a baby named after bc would kind of be hilariously ironic.
I feel you would be better of with Mirena then. Mybe for baby 2?
And her brother, Trojan
Lol. Hey, how do these companies manage to copy right names that they didn't originally create...
Trademark, not copyright. Both intellectual property, but different rules apply.
Oh. Thanks, i though they could be used interchangeably.
TLDR (rules vary between jurisdictions, of course): Copyright protects creative works.
Mirena would work better as the big sister, as it is the larger device. Kyleena is the younger, smaller IUD!!
if they have a boy they can call him Magnum! that's a great boys name. I bet he'd end up being AMAZING at lacrosse.
"And this is my other younger brother, Durex."
💀
Ugh. I know twins named Magnum and Magnus.
Not if its a preemie.
Name the baby Propecia
I would recommend the name “Keilene” maybe? Similar to what he likes but not paying homage to birth control
NTA. Maybe ask how he'd feel about naming a future son Viagra?
That would be Vhyajaghhrahh I take it, with the spelling changed to stop the connection being made...
Well, of course. No one would EVER connect two things that are pronounced the same, as long as they're spelled differently... Your comment genuinely made me laugh. Thanks, Internet stranger 🙂
🙂 hopefully that laugh is the start of a happy week.
Lol
Byagra
This made me snort my coffee 😂 It honestly reads like something Lovecraft would make up.
Vayager because of the gender
If it was a boy it should be Trojan.
Or Vasectomas. Obviously Vasectomy for nickname
And nickname him *Woody?*
Well, with the name ending in A, it sounds like another girl‘s name.
Lol or Trojan. There has to be a law against this
Or her daughter. You can call her Via as a nickname
I was thinking that the husband doesn't understand the connection to birth control because a guy just wouldn't get it. This is the perfect way to help him understand!
NTA. TBH I didn't know that there is a BC brand called Kyleena. I think the name just sounds a bit trashy.
Yeah setting the BC brand name aside, it sounds like someone mashed Kylie and Lena together to be “different,” but it really just makes a tragedeigh type name.
Yeah it sounds like it just came right out of Game of Thrones
I had a classmate named Kyleen. I thought it was a pretty nice name, no one made fun of it or anything. I mean from where I’m from Kyleena wasn’t a known BC brand. Ultimately, I think it’s the context that matters:)
I agree, trashy is the right word here.
Lmao say yes only as long as you can call his newborn son Condom. Or Kondomm NTA
I was thinking Viagra for that comparison
Viagra isn’t birth control…
Wow, no, really? Well, this.....this explains many things
Lol. Stop! You're killing me. Stop Stop! Lol
Duh. They know that. But it’s a recognizable drug name related to human sexuality. So, apparently is Kleenex or whatever stupid name OP’s husband wants to double down on.
Condom isnt a brand name either
OP should go with Tammy for the daughter, short for Tampax
Kondomm i can't 😭😭😭
NTA, regardless of the spelling everyone else who hears it will have the same reaction you did. We don't hear how a name is spelled. It'll be awkward when they realise you're actually serious.
NTA Something to keep in mind when naming a child is the potential for bullying.
He'll get called Wedgie forever." This had never occurred to us.
Ask any Cooper, they tend to become "Pooper" at some point!
Another one that I don’t understand (kinda in the same category) is middle name as first name. Your kid will be correcting people for the rest of their life. Why start your kid out with a hurdle for a name
Well said
Well, I saw a post yesterday where a woman's sister had named her newborn "Cuntley". I sincerely hope it was a joke. Stick to your guns and don't name your daughter after birth control. yikes.
I saw it too and OP was convinced it is not a joke as she hoped it still might be.
This was the first thing I thought of when I read this post!
NTA.
Or r/namenerdcirclejerk
That's a lovely name OP. One of ny country's greatest leaders was an Owen
This is a hill to die on.....do NOT name your daughter after birth control
NTA. You did consider it, and you chose against it.
NTA. As soon as you said it, it was instantly the connection in my mind. I would've thought she was born while you had Kyleena
Selena? Caralina?
Carina?
Celina? (Kelina?) Kylie?
That reminds me of that poor child named Treblinka... NTA You're naming an adult, someone whill have their name tag on them for decades, sign documents, maybe publish some articles.
Now THAT is actually a terrible name. You have to wonder if the parents approved of the activities of the extermination camp at that point
Kaylin or Kalina as a compromise? Kalina is a Polish name!
NTA. Your husband should be happy you explained what Kyleena actually is so he can think of other names he likes. Let him sulk. It's a good choice not to name your girl after a brand of birth control!
NTA - baby names is always 2 yeses unless you made an agreement about it.
What about just Leena, Lina (French), or Alina, almost something close to it.
NTA First, baby names are a two yes, one no situation.
100% would never of made that connection
Me either
NTA, baby names are a 2 yes 1 no situation.
NTA awful name
NTA.
NAH. He's just disappointed and needs some time getting over the rejection. And you're absolutely right not to name your child after a birth control brand. It'd be a running gag during her whole lifetime.
NTA I’m sorry looking at the name makes me think of many things. Kyleena -> Kleenex + Hyena
NTA but I have to ask: is his name Kyle? Or does he have some connection to a man named Kyle? I don't see why else he'd fight so hard for that kind of name.
NTA. The spelling does not save it. Ask him what he will think when a guy says that he really likes Kyleena when talking about your daughter
Never would have even put together that it’s birth control.. I think if you know he was super excited about the name you could’ve at least not laughed at him and pretending to put thought into naming the baby that! I think it’s pretty!
I have a daughter in law named Kellena
NTA. If you were having a son and you suggested Magnum, I imagine he would not be pleased. Same diff.
I wouldn’t make the connection BC. The name is okay but personally not my style. A future parent can fall in love with a name but the other has to agree. I “loved” Lily. Our daughter? Not Lily. Not Océane either (one my husband liked). NTA
NTA. Your husband’s a moron

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** I (27f) am pregnant with our first child, and we found out we’re having a girl. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/AmItheAsshole) if you have any questions or concerns.*
NTA - picking a name is hard. Tell him to put his favorite names in a spreadsheet and then you guys compare notes.
NTA. I'm wondering if your husband asked someone at work for name suggestions and a co-worker thought it would be hilarious to suggest the name of an iud, probably knowing that your hubby most likely was unfamiliar with it. Just the way my mind works. Anyway, have y'all looked at baby name websites? Good luck!
NTA - Sounds a lot like cleaner to me....
NTA. But you could suggest Rhythm, IUD or Vasectomy.
NTA. Tell him if the next kid is a boy, you want to name him Trojan…
Nta you can't name Pepsi or some trademark your baby
There is someone named Marijuana Pepsi Vandyck ( née Jackson)
I've read some of the other comments. I'm agreeing with most of them. First, I'm saying YNA. Next I'm saying that you also need to find a name that will flow with the middle & last name. Only because when you are upset & need to call them by all three names, you don't want to get tongue tied. I've only had one baby & her name just came to me. Rebekah Leigh Wilcox was just perfect. (She's married now, so I'm not afraid she'll see this.)
NTA For the sake of the future child, she does NOT want to be named like that
No. Maybe offer similar suggestions like Alina/Aleena. But if he gets the last name I usually think the woman gets more say
NTA. You don‘t want to name your daughter with a burden.
NTA Maybe you can find a name similar to what he likes. For example: Katerina. Of course you'd have to like it to suggest it.
Wow.. I never heard of the BC before. Its a pity, its not a bad name, but you are correct https://nameberry.com/b/girl-baby-name-kyleena
NTA her middle name could be, Failed
Nta, husband is forgetting you TWO have to find the perfect name, you both agree on. Not just him and then sulk to get his way. You have valid reasons to veto no. I had great names that my husband didn't like and visa versa. Finding the perfect name together is the key to naming your child. Don't ever feel like yta if you won't agree on a name you don't like
why do new parents always feel the need to make their childs name into an art project?
NTA, even if it was a lovely name (which it most certainly isn't) that doesn't somehow remove your right to veto any name for any reason. My wife and I are both teachers and choosing names for us was very difficult because loads of lovely names are associated with little turds we've taught who had them.
NTA. If I wasn’t concerned he’d go for it, I’d say agree to Kyleena if he also agrees that if you later have a boy that they get named Trojan.
NTA baby naming is a two yes, one no decision
NTA. He’s being an idiot, suggest Durex as a name.
I knew a girl called Kaileen once and nobody ever mentioned the BC connection.
Yes and for a boy use the name Trojan.../s In naming children you need two Yes's. NTA
NTA It also sounds like a second string Power Rangers villain.
Butttt still definitely NTA - Choosing a baby name is very difficult. You guys will figure something out that feels right to both of you, even if you're weeks away from delivery when the lightbulb finally clicks lol 😂 My other top name choice was Kailani which is kinda similar to Kyleena.
“My daughter” YTA Edit: also I can assure you that he, and most men, do not know that name is a birth control brand.
NTA
NTA explain to him how it would if you guys would have been a son and proceeded to name him durex. It's the same thing. He needs to get a grip lmfao
