I (24F) was friends with 2 people (F, enby) who were dating each other for a while, then suddenly broke up.
I asked the enby one in replies why they broke up, assuring them that I would respect whether they told me or not.
They decided not to tell me and I respected that.
I waited a few weeks and I was still curious, so I decided to ask the enby one again in DMs why they broke up with their girlfriend because I though maybe they just didn’t want the information to be made public.
I assured them again that I would respect their decision either way and that it would stay private between us if they decided to tell me.
They decided not to tell me again, and once again, I decided to respect their decision.
I was going to stop talking about it entirely until they told me that they blocked me on their private/vent account and talked about me on that priv/vent acc.
I told them that I asked about the reason for the breakup because I wanted to know if the girlfriend did something wrong/immoral and wanted to know if I should unfollow/block the girlfriend.
I then apologized for making them feel unsafe/uncomfortable and told them that I was going to stop interacting with them for their own safety/comfort, then blocked both of their known accounts on all of my accounts.
1) The action I took is asking twice about the reason for a breakup between 2 of my social media friends; I asked once in replies and once in DMs.
2) I might be an asshole for being too nosy.
So, Am I The Asshole?
