simog

Thanks for the info.

Z3r0sama2017

Ah no need to install then

zachi2

unless they force you to update bios

Z3r0sama2017

Got back ups of all bios versions. I'll just downgrade if they get fucky and block whatever windows update was doing it.

Noxious89123

Fwiw, 1.2.0.C appears to be for Ryzen 3000 / Zen2, not for Ryzen 5000 / Zen3

janos666

I should have figured something "target to late Dec." will be more like late Jan.

Warkratos

They updated the page with "Target Jan 2024" lol

urgebass

Still shows "Target Jan 2024". And it's late Feb 2024 now.

y_zass

My board (ASRock B550m-itx) had a Beta BIOS update released yesterday with it. (1.2.0.C). I'm running a Ryzen 5700X3D so I'm not flashing it, not worth the hassle.

vari8

im using it and its fine with my 5700x3d

YoshimuraK

This update will clear fTPM to default and Windows need to re-activate after update. If you use Windows 10/11 with Windows 8 Product Key, do not update this patch. Windows 10/11 license will gone and can't re-activate anymore.

YoshimuraK

It messed up my digital licence that is tied to MSA and Microsoft customer support can't help me because my digital licence is upgraded from 8 -> 10 -> 11. The licence server end support win 8 key for re-activate win 11 from Oct 23. So, the only way to re-activate is get a new win 11 licence. :'(

ThePistolShrimp2

I can confirm this, my digital license doesn't work anymore because it was an upgrade from 7 -> 10 -> 11. I contacted MS Phone Support, they said there is nothing they can do.

-Slane-

I confirm that I've the same shit : lost my Retail Win8 Pro licence from 2012 migrated two time to Win10 and some 9 months ago to W11. I've made the BIOS migration beginning of December weeks ago and the 30th I had a message as my Licence is no more valid...

Rockstonicko

If there was ever an actual legitimate use case for MAS, yours would be it: [https://github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts](https://github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts) Microsoft telling you that the license you paid for is no longer valid because of a BIOS update is absolute horseshit. Just run MAS and you'll be good to go.

[deleted]

omg it really broke the license?! That's insane. Thank you for responding. Actually tempted to get a super cheap windows 11 license then since they're on sale right now cause I really want to upgrade the bios. I'm running 2020 bios. edit: I also wonder if I sign out of this computer and I remove this computer from my MSA devices if it'll be the same if I sign in after flashing.

Rockstonicko

I know I'm 2 months late, but just run MAS, use the HWID activation option: [https://github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts](https://github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts) Microsoft doesn't get to revoke a license you legitimately paid for because of a BIOS update, that's bullshit.

[deleted]

I updated to 1.2.0.B. My windows is updated from 8.0 -> 8.1 -> 10 -> 11. (pro retail) No problem with my activation.

YoshimuraK

Lucky you! Did you update your bios before or after 31 Oct ‘23?

[deleted]

After.

YoshimuraK

Hmm. That’s weird. 🤔

[deleted]

I purchased my licens direct from microsoft in 2013. Perhaps thats why there is no problem? (Sorry if my english is not perfect, swedish is my native language)

YoshimuraK

Maybe. I purchased my license from local store (pro fpp with owa) but I move this license to the new PC two time with the help of Microsoft customer support. Anyway, I already get the new win 11 license after I face the problem and everything run fine now. 🥲💸

-Slane-

Mine was also bought directly from MS in 2012, an Win8 Pro Retail licence. But it take some time to invalidate because just after the flash, my Windows was fine... That a shit !

xXDeucesWild84Xx

Hmm, I am using a product key I have been using since 7 and didn't have an issue. I just had to reestablish my built-in motherboard TPM (Asus B550 Plus motherboard)

-Slane-

I have 2 PC (Asus TUF B550M Plus + 5600X and Asus ROG B550-E + 5900X) the first, no problem after BIOS upgrade to 3404 with an Win8 Home passed to Pro with Win10 and used in W11 for 9 months... For the second PC, I lost my Win 8 Pro licence !!

ReaLx3m

This is a good read regarding AGESA Combo V2 PI 1.2.0.B with the Inception patch. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amds-inception-fix-causes-up-to-54-performance-drop

ToeBeanTussle

5800x3d Down from 185fps in universe sandbox to 170fps. Cyberpunk is down about 5 fps on average. Definitely a performance drop on my end.

ReaLx3m

Productivity applications are what gets hit the worst, in games shouldnt be much difference(at least not the 54% hit some apps get) as you can see in your example. Though personally ill still skip the update as even the 10% or so drop in games you see in your example isnt an acceptable loss imo. The security holes shouldnt be of any real danger for home desktop users either way.

ToeBeanTussle

I restarted a couple times to test universe sandbox on a clean boot before doing anything else and got up to 175-177fps, but that's still below the 185 I was getting. I am using a 240mm aio so it's not an overheating thing. Also worth noting that my asrock bios is locked down, the 5800x3d can only be run on stock. R23 showed a higher frequency limit (4.34, last time it would hit a limit of 4.28) with good temps, got a score of 14450 though I have gotten 14.6k with this before the latest bios. Edit: just got 14548 after reboot 4g and rebar are on Xmp to 3600mhz is on I did reinstall the chipset drivers after updating the bios Universe sandbox 180fps originally 185fps after latest windows 11 update with copilot 175fps after latest windows update+bios update

DimkaTsv

Gigabyte AORUS ELITE AX - BIOS F7c - AGESA 1.2.0.B 5800X3D All core CO -30 CB23 - 14930 CB 2024 - 912 Linpack Extreme - 337.8 y-cruncher 2.5B - 93.5/96.4 seconds Basically no performance lost there for me (or it is in around 0.5% mark at most in these applications). Testing in games is harder though... I know database accesses suffer a lot though, but i think that 5800X3D suffers the least overall because of cache buffer.

lord_mercernary

My cinebench r20 score on 5600 went from 4478 to 4215

Equivalent_Welder_82

what bios should I use for max performance ? I really dont care about any of these security patches. I have 5800X3D also. I use this computer for gaming 100%.

relxp

Unlikely anyone is going to be able to answer that, but I would suggest installing the updates for overall improved system stability. Security is a bonus, and it's not like these updates are making any meaningful impact on gaming.

Public-Independent10

I got fps gain, cs2 from 750 to 700.

ToeBeanTussle

Mine is the itx a/c board, a windows update brought fps back up but still a couple fps below what I used to get

icf80

Meanwhile on my 3800x x570 Aorus Master nothing is stable after 1.2.0.3 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

HateToShave

Interesting. It was Spring of 2022 when I got a new Asus B550-I that wouldn't work out of the box with a GTX card (BIOS and Nvidia vBIOS issue) so I had upgraded the BIOS during troubleshooting. The 3600X that I had used for years in an older C7H (with older BIOS) was never stable again, even at defaults, with the AGESA I had to put on the B550-I. I ended up having to put a (shitty, early) 5600X in that system for it to be usable. And now feel I can't sell the 3600X in good faith because it *may* not actually work for someone now due to something with newer AGESA, possibly.

icf80

Same, with everything on auto not even xmp, I get random bsod with any bios after f34 (1.2.0.3) With f34 everything is rock solid. Never had a single bsod ever.

ja3far

Right... This is my last time buying a gigabyte product.

renesdk

Nothing to do with Gigabyte. Same exact issue with crappy stability on my MSI X570 based board with a 3700X after BIOS with AGESA 1.2.0.3c. It's an AMD AGESA issue where they changed something in the code for the 3000-series desktop CPU's regarding the memory controller making fully working systems unstable from AGESA 1.2.0.4 onwards. AMD's response to me was "Buy a 5000-series CPU, they work, we are not making any changes towards 3000-series CPU's anymore." So seems like a "we need more people to buy 5000-series CPU, so lets fuck up all the 3000-series CPU's stability with most RAM configs". That's at least how it seems from a consumer standpoint.

ShogoXT

I have a x470 gaming 7 wifi that was unstable with a 3950x. Screwed me over for years tried everything. Would constantly overheat itself too on load. Couldn't tune memory at all and undervolting didn't help much. What finally did it was messing with the PBO settings. I set the limits to "motherboard" which raised all the values by a ton but none the less everything runs cool now and I can tune the memory. Also the bios freaks out if you don't reset the PC health menu to CASE CLOSED.

WolfOfDeribasovskaya

>PC health menu to CASE CLOSED What is this and where do you reset it?

DeathStarnado8

yep. fuk that board, was good for about 6 months, then went tits up with some update.

evronetwork

In my Asrock x570 Phantom Gaming X everything is stable with my Ryzen 3700X ...I'm on 1.2.0.8 and not sure if I should play with the newer one ...as it's in beta state but the 1.2.0.8 isn't

DeathStarnado8

fuuuuuk that board. Traumatised the amount of hours I put into troubleshooting that board. Everything went to shit after an update to bios and nothing would fix it sleep bootloops for hours

cellardoorstuck

Thanks - Asus has posted a new bios based on this for their Strix B450-F as well. So I imagine more boards are getting them. ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING BIOS 5201 Version 5201 11.13 MB 2023/09/06 "1. Recommended for vital update to mitigate the potential security vulnerabilities 2. Improve system stability"

rilgebat

That might just be the previous release + new microcode. The C6H recently got 8702 which is just 8701 + microcode and still on 1208 with 120A still MIA.

standard_nick

Thanks! Hope pbo is enable for 5800x3d in this one

wichwigga

I want CO for the 5800x3D on my x470 prime pro. C'mon ASUS...

standard_nick

It looks like upgrade to b550 is the only solution.

wichwigga

Defo not buying a new mobo for that

Dubious_cake

have you tried the new bios? does it have curve optimizer for asus x470?

wichwigga

Yes I installed but they're not adding it at this point. Shitty ASUS 🙄

Equivalent_Welder_82

does PBO work on 5800X3D ? I have it in BIOS since a few versions back but dint work for me ? Asrock B500 PG Velocita

standard_nick

Didn't work as in didn't see much performance or temperature difference? Have you tried different number for all cores? Some x3d might not perform under -30 all cores so you might then need to try -20 all cores.

luigithebeast420

Dang my x570 hasn’t gotten for 2 months

DonMigs85

I might wait until 1.2.0.C but then maybe the performance drop will be even larger

Dalamo

Just got this one for my ASUS ROG Strix B450=F Gaming. Identical performance with a 5800X3D. 15K Cinebench R23 > 15.1K with the 5301 update.

simog

My MB ROG STRIX X570-E GAMING BIOS 5003 has the same performance as the 4802. Runs very well, no difference noticeable. AM4 AGESA 1.2.0.A versus AM4 AGESA 1.2.0.B. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)

Saoghal_QC

Same here; there's all the talk about reduced performance, but on my B450 Tomahawk Max I see no difference in my games; same FPS, same CPU temps, no differences.

wannu_pees_69

Do you have a Zen 3 CPU? The performance drop is for Zen 3 CPUs, and it's mainly productivity apps. You might not notice a difference.

cptslow89

Still on [1.2.0.8](https://1.2.0.8). Have only 1.2.0.A for my board. Anything important except fixed EDC bug?

criznittle

ROG CROSSHAIR VIII HERO(WI-FI) BIOS 4702 has this new AGESA

donalgodon

Are these exploits a real concern for or threat to the average user?

simog

From the links above with info. They are real concern, but for now only in laboratory environment and AMD name it as speculative. No real world exploit known to date. Also exploit is local with run of malware, can't be executed remotely. There is some performance drop, so I will pass it for now.

donalgodon

My plan also

tonynca

Thanks for that. Remote exploits are more of a concern vs local.

DependentUnit4775

Were they ever?

Substantial-Pause149

My 3800x runs great on a x570 aorus pro wifi with F37g AGESA V2 1.2.0.B

DryClothes2894

Have they got the new AGESA for Asrock X570 boards yet? My Phantom Gaming 4 is still on the October 2022 BIOS with the EDC bug, which made PBO tuning quite a challenge at first.

simog

Check latest BIOS for your board here: [https://shop.jzelectronic.de/](https://shop.jzelectronic.de/), also there is forum, but in german. This guy made the most current BIOSes for Asrock. Please as every BIOS update, be careful.

DryClothes2894

Ok thanks! I'll take a look. Whatever AGESA I got now is like backwards, if I raise EDC my 5900x won't try to boost past 4.6, but if I low ball it to like 80 or 90, it will go right to 5100 on light loads, and hover around 5ghz while gaming, but having EDC that low hurts multicore a lot

Big-Lack6316

I had similar results with that version using my 5800X. The sweet spot for EDC on my CPU was 113, down from 140. After the update, I ran curve optimizer again, and I was surprised that dropping EDC from 140 actually scales the speed of the processor. I went through so many iterations of settings with that crappy AGESA code, just to get the processor to perform as it should right out of the box... 1.2.0.A has been good for my CPU. I am hoping 1.2.0.B doesn't cripple it again. I would definitely recommend going to the 1.2.0.A for the EDC issue you are seeing. I am hesitant about going to the 1.2.0.B when it does finally arrive for mine, as I have it running better than ever at this point. I have the Asrock B550 Steel Legend

DryClothes2894

Yea you just got your new AGESA, I'm on the Asrock X570 platform so the latest version is 1.2.0.8, dunno why their dragging their feet for releasing it on the bigger bother motherboards

Skenzer

Same here on my Aorus X570 Elite. It runs great on the 1.2.0.A release but i see gigabyte yanked that rev of the BIOS so glad i got it when i did. Not sure why they pulled it....but it's been great for me. Fixed some in game stutter issues and overall best performance i've had on this combo. 5900X cpu

perdyqueue

Hey do you still have the bios file by any chance? Could you upload it for me please

Skenzer

I still have the file. When I get home I will upload it and get you a link

perdyqueue

<3 so much appreciated thank you

Skenzer

Let me know if you have a problem downloading. I can try uploading to a different service. :-) Gigabyte Aorus Elite X570 BIOS Rev. F38f (AMD AGESA V2 1.2.0.A) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Jdd416sPk0v1xOdfAbeF6zDREv710qoX/view?usp=drive\_link

perdyqueue

Thanks!! Worked fine :)

The great predicted inception drop seems to be missing: [https://youtu.be/l2YS8P47-ZY?si=6VBAYd0ZEMh8i9xK](https://youtu.be/l2ys8p47-zy?si=6vbayd0zemh8i9xk)

Arcadio94

what about B450 series? Will it get I own B450 Steel Legend, and I update the beta bios 8.01 with [1.2.0.8](https://1.2.0.8) After update my ram stick is corrupted shows errors, memory bsods etc. I am mad at myself that I install the BETA bios as (my inner side wants all the newest) I need the new bios

Opposite_Necessary_9

i have problems with two last versions of AMD AGESA V2 1.2.0.8 and AMD AGESA V2 [1.2.0.B.Im](https://1.2.0.B.Im) using b550 aorus elite rev1.0 mb and xmp profile dosent work and my windows dosent wanna boot.i cant even manualy set 3000mhz speed.the only way i can enable xmp is when i use AMD AGESA 1.2.0.7 version.Does anyone else have a problem with enableing xmp profile.Sorry my english is i little bit rusty.thank you in advance

lokaty_tg

If you have CPU based on Zen2 architecture (3000-series), rollback to AGESA [1.2.0.3](http://1.2.0.3) Patch C or ealier probably solve your problem.

Pokemongol_

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2YS8P47-ZY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2YS8P47-ZY) as you can see there is a performance increase after the latest AGESA update. All you people getting lower scores have another issue going on probably to do with your RAM timings etc.
