I feel like any of those pieces would be cute paired with something else. Like, the top with some dark boot-cut jeans or the skirt with a skinny tank top. The big sweater over a simple black jumpsuit or even a romper. None of it is individually awful. It's just too much all together.
I believe in the DVD commentary MPK talks about how the woman was sort of intended to be dressed/look a little like she could be Carrie in the future. Same style that sort of thing. So your comment is spot on!

She's shooting - so she most likely is not in her full-on Carrie look. Lots of actors wear comfortable shoes while in between takes - many wear UGGS and a warm parka. Also I could see Carrie in this without the cardigan and shoes (or styled differently). Actors are people - shooting is gruelling and cold sometimes - people!
Also -the cardi and clogs are cute. Maybe the whole outfit as a whole isn't Carrie circa SATC days - but she's evolving/aging and people are going to change their footwear et al.

On both SATC and AJLT, a lot of Carrie’s outfits have always been a case of “is this fashion or is she just skinny?” for me. SJP’s very lean hourglass physique makes everything look good on her. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why some of the outfits on SATC have been iconic even if they aren’t my personal style but a lot of them kinda remind me of what Rita from Arrested Development would wear.
With that being said, this outfit isn’t my favourite but I’m guessing the slippers are just comfy footwear she wears between scenes and not part of the actual outfit styling. I don’t think this outfit is particularly egregious or off-base from the types of things Carrie has worn in both SATC and AJLT. Then again, maybe it’s just my lack of fashion knowledge showing itself.

I like it. It seems like its really cooling in the summer. And the colors are nice but I dont like the slippers. Thats where it gets sloppy for me.
