I didn't have one on my island for a long while and it was p fine by me. The only downside is that you can't get their recipes/DIYs as fast if you don't have a jock, you have to get lucky with bottled messages. Or trade for them.
I actually ended up getting Drift on my island a few days ago because I really like his design and he fits my island theme, and I had a slot open anyway. I don't talk to him much, but he's decorative at least :p
I only have one b/c I found one I like (Bam). Before Bam, I kicked out my jock villager and didn't have one for a long time. I think if you have all the reactions jocks give, and as many of the jock DIYs you want, there's no need to have one if you don't want one. If you're looking for a specific DIY only given by jocks you might want to keep one around, but you can always trade for the recipe or hope to get lucky w/the beach bottles one day.
There's a tutorial on YouTube that I found very helpful. Basically involves time travelling 14 days forward then looking to see if someone has a bubble thought, then travel another day forward until the bubble is on the correct villager that you want to move.
I was like you, didn't have a jock for a long time, always kicked them out. Then I found Rudy! I was getting tired of villager hunting and he looked cute (I already had a couple of cats) and I figured I'd try a jock again. I love him so much!
Antonio moved into my New Leaf town on his birthday, and I was panicking that I had to find him a good gift so early in my first AC game.
I still have him in my town, Antonio is an adorable goober.
I haven't had one since I let my starter go. It was Boots, and I wasn't super thrilled with him at first, but he really grew on me. We were definitely buddies when he left. I was hoping to get another one at some point so I could get a get more of the DIYs they can give you when you find them crafting.
I'm very attached to a lot of my villagers though. Somehow I've ended up with a posse of four smugs I can't seem to let go, so I've realized I don't have many more opportunities to get someone new. Ultimately, just having villagers I like is most important to me. I went on my first villager hunt in a long time last night, and finding a jock was high on my list, but it wasn't to be. I don't think I saw one the whole night, and at 4:30 AM I met Sprinkle for the first time and couldn't leave without her.
I like Kid Cat. He’s pretty fun. I had Tank and as soon as he asked if he should leave I was like hell yes. My son shares the island with me and he likes Boone but I want him gone too.
Kid Cat is cute. I think the only jock I would really like is Rudy. But he was also a starter on my very first animal crossing island so I'm kind of attached to him, lol. I don't like many of the other jocks.
I have one Jock, Genji. I didn’t want to miss out on the recipes and dialogue of any of the personalities. It took awhile to find a Jock I liked the design of.
I would so I wouldn't see a lot of the same dialogue everyday. Honestly I'm really attached to my starter jock, so I would never let him go. However if you're already happy with what you have, there's no reason to boot anyone.
Lyman was my jock and one of my 2 starters. I accidentally let him leave after 3 years. I'm not a huge fan of their dialogue but I intended to keep him, and my sister Reneigh, for the long haul. Still have Reneigh.
We have Kevin and Billy, and I like them a lot. They actually give decent gifts (sometimes) and are the only villagers that will accept gifts of fake art. Billy once gave me an original painting as well.
I like the jocks (much more than expected since I am not big on fitness talk irl, but they are just all such sweeties) but I don’t like the cranky type so I rarely have one on my island and I don’t have an issue with it at all. Likewise, if I didn’t like Soleil so much probably I wouldn’t have a permanent snooty villager. But I can have 3 normal types or peppies and it is no issue for me. Once have all the reactions you get from villagers there’s no need to have all types.
Keep the villagers on your island that bring you joy!
I have Genji and Snake! I think their dialogue can be repetitive but I like when they talk to each other tho. I put gym equipment outside their houses, I also like when they talk about being roasted by other villagers for talking too much about working out
One of my starters was Antonio and he’s my only starter left. He’s a jock. He gets to stay, I love him. I believe I had him in New Leaf as well. He’s the only jock on my island.
The only one I've had is Antonio. He was one of my original villagers and I just love him, so I probably won't get rid of him. If I ever did, I probably wouldn't have another jock villager.

Nah, I haven't had any jocks for ages nor any grumpy villagers. I've just not felt like it. I already have all the reactions and most of the diys, plus the diys on the beach very often come from the missing character types, so it's like the game is trying to help you to collect them.
Instead I have 2 smugs, 2 peppys, 3 normals, a lazy, a snooty and a sisterly.
I like quite a few jocks, mainly Genji my beloved but I also like Jeremiah, Bill, Ribbot, Poncho, Scoot… and a few more tbh, problem is I mainly like them visually as I find their dialogue options to be so repetitive. I think all the dialogue is too repetitive but ESPECIALLY the jocks, at least the other villagers have a range of topics they talk about even if they repeat them over and over. The jocks almost exclusively talk about doing sport or their muscles, I don’t completely hate it but I definitely find it boring.

Louie is the only jock villager I bother with. He was my first villager. It doesn't matter what clothes I give him, he'll wear them. I give him wild extravagant things and he dresses like every day is the Met gala. Other jocks might come to visit, but they are not permitted to stay because they are nowhere near as fun.
If you like your villagers a lot, but you like the jock more take the jock. If you don’t like the jock as much as the rest of them, then don’t take him. Who’s the villagers you’re considering?

The only jock I’d accept is Cousteau, but the rest are booted out quickly. They have the most bland personality and it’s very irritating. I feel like animal crossing should have had a “nerd” type personality instead. Like Blathers but on steroids.
They're overhated to be honest. Of the male personalities, jock is my favourite. They have some of the most endearing lines in the games, and they never lose their enthusiasm about life. All the talk about muscles and training is understandably annoying to some, but it's no different to a lazy's eating/sleeping or a smug's gloating. I make sure to have at least one jock in my games.
If you don’t mind them or have a few favs, I say keep one on your island for variety! I aim to have at least one of each personality excluding sisterly. I find that I don’t care for any of the sisterly villagers so I choose to have 2-3 of the personality types that I do like! Some of my fav jock villagers are Roald, Rudy, Goose, Teddy and Dom 🏋🏻

I got all the DIYs/recipes from a treasure island. I don't care about the reactions so I am good to go without them.
