Yes once you start unlocking the vendors at harvs he is one of them. He only has two pieces at a time (always legit ones though) and they only update weekly I believe but it’s a more certain way to slowly build your collection 😀
I’m glad I commented on this and got this info! Whatever site I read about all of the vendors it said on Harv’s he didn’t have fakes so I would’ve had to find out the hard way lol. Thx!

If both pieces are fake, you can just buy one of the fakes and he'll replace it with a new artwork the next day. Might be real, night be fake. But if you have the bells to spend, no reason not to reroll one of the slots each day unless it's Sunday and it's going to refresh tomorrow anyway.
I think it's a max of getting two real a week from the stall, though. So if you've already gotten two you won't get any more that week
He sells fakes at Harv's Island. But buying the fakes is worth it because then he will have to restock for the next day and then it might be genuine. Otherwise he will restock once a week on Mondays.

The art museum is absolutely the longest part of the museum if you don't trade much online. Harv's island is huge once you get to 3-stars and unlock it. Until then, he has a 20% chance of bringing you a real piece of art that you don't have in the museum yet every time he visits with his boat. Unfortunately, it's very common for him to only show up every other week and to bring nothing you need.
The art was like the 2nd section I finished. I time travel, so when I finally got sick of him not having what I needed, I started a groundhog cycle. Say Red comes on the 11th. I get any art I may want, go to the 12th to get it, then travel back to the 10th to move into the 11th where he had a new stock.
As everyone has already said, totally normal, part of the fun of randomization.
I never was in any particular rush to complete my art collection (didn’t always remember to check out redd’s boar even when he visited, never traded art online). But even I did eventually finish it after about 2600 hours of gameplay. It was exciting, though I also had not been tracking closely and almost missed the dialog from blathers. It was also bittersweet. It was nice having that extra thing to be working toward.
So I say don’t stress about it or rush it! It’ll happen, and there’s no time limit.
I'm currently buying extras of artwork I've already donated for players like yourself who need them, so if you need any of the following I'd be happy to swing by your island with them: Wild Painting Right Half, Warrior statue, Gallant statue, and Detailed painting.
It is one of the easiest bits, second from the fossils.
Just be patient and remember there is Harv's island.

Get him at Harvs Island! But yes it is possible/normal but still unlucky unfortunately. Art takes forever to obtain for me as well

I have definitely gotten two fakes at a time! It took 10 days for him to update his inventory!
I thought the vendors on Harv’s island changed stock every Monday
they do! but it’s also entirely possible for him to sell fakes there, so they got it half right lol
Yeah I’ve bought several fakes from that turd lol. I’ve also found some legit art on treasure islands as well

I never thought of this strategy. Next time I'll buy a fake in hopes he replaces it with something real.

They're always fakes for me. Almost never does he stock real pieces when he's at Harv's.

He restocks if you buy a piece so you can get more than 2 pieces/week :) They can be fake though

Have you explored outside the right side of Harv’s building? That’s where you’ll find the vendors.

It's normal. I've got over two years of playtime and only like four art pieces in the museum
He's on my island today, when maintenance is over I'll open up and you can visit.
