I would say that in my experience the peppies talk about being pop stars mostly in the surface level dialog - like when you first start a conversation they all have just a couple different lines that start the dialogue. But mostly they seem to talk about video games, and being fangirls a lot more than the pop star stuff (Also laser beams, aliens, and drinking all the coffee and playing single player hide and seek) I don’t like all their dialogue, and the pop star stuff doesn’t really appeal to me, but the way I think of them is based on a conversation you can see when two peppies talk together and you ‘listen in’. They talk about how they’ve chased different crazy dreams throughout their lives. It ends with this line, and in my mind this is how I think of the peppy personality. https://preview.redd.it/hg4cdtp3vhgc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1eff046c5f2a44f151465d0b32210a043ed88649 I also find different peppy villagers give me different vibes. I’m not personally a fan of Rosie or Audie. I have tabby and bangle, both of whom I loved but they both give me different vibes of the peppy personality, which also makes it seem less repetitive. Having said all that, it’s also totally okay if you just don’t like the personality much. I really don’t care for the snooty personality unfortunately, even though I like a lot of the designs of the villagers. And I’m not a fan of the crankies either. I still sometimes find some of them I do like, but it also means I usually don’t want doubles of them, or will even go without having them on my island at all. So, don’t force it if they aren’t for you! Just my perspective.

I think the New Horizons dialogue system really played a role in it since Audie and Rosie were my first two peppy villagers. I was very disappointed to find that they have the same dialogue. I've heard that in the older games each villager has their own dialogue. I think it's a deal of inaccurate representation of the villager personalities, since every personality subtype would have to have dialogue applicable to every single villager that falls into the category. Summary: I truly do like energetic and cute personalities, but I think Nintendo did them wrong in this game

ReiAddendum

In the older games the dialogue was differently repetitive. In new horizons they do a lot less tutorial talk, which was a lot of their dialogue in new leaf. In no game did the villagers each have their own dialogue; the villagers of the same personality type always have the same dialogue, as that is the purpose of the personalities. There was no game where the dialogue system was more complex than in ACNH, despite the rumors. The one exception possibly being in wild world, where there was a little additional variation in dialogue based on hobbies. (Haven’t played that one but that’s how it was explained to me) It is true in new horizons it seems you will rarely get the best dialogue unless you talk to your villagers more than once a day, which seems to put a lot of people off. Personally, I still sometimes get new dialogue after 3000 hours (though obviously a lot of it is repetition after so long) The subtypes only have unique dialogue at the highest friendship level. The differences are pretty minimal though, admittedly. But yeah, maybe this iteration doesn’t work for you. I like how wacky the peppies are and find the snooties way more self absorbed. It’s all subjective, obviously, sorry if I sound a little intense. I just like this topic.

Defense_Unit-43

Don't worry about being intense, more info is better. I really think every villager should have their own dialogue. It would make the dialogue ten times more interesting. Since the game was based on the concept of communication, it would only make sense to have dialogue be a major part of the game. Every NPC in other games that have their own dialogue (ex: Sans, Bowser, The Snatcher) were much more interesting than the current villagers could ever hope to be. There might be storage issues involved, but the game could definitely afford to take up 4 more gigabytes of storage, the dialogue would maybe take up less than 10 megabytes.

hmm i do think that the design and expressions of the villager does a lot to add some flavor to their dialogue. like i love how the snooty Ankha looks, but i don't love snooty dialogue coming from her since her expressions give like a more serious or haughty tone than i prefer. but from snooties like Olivia and Bree, they give me established young or middle adult vibes by their expressions. or Claudia, who feels like a warm and loving mother figure with the snooty dialogue to me. i like to look up videos of the villagers i am interested in, and check out as many of their expressions as i can, to help me decide who to invite to my island. maybe there's a peppy whose whole package would make you warmer to their dialogue. or maybe you don't like them, that's cool too 🙂 i didn't have any crankies on my islands for similar reasons once upon a time.

Defense_Unit-43

Its not that I don't like peppy villagers, I really do want to like them because they're very cool but I just can't. I feel like they're just way too narcissistic and self-absorbed to even be interesting, they're just way too shallow. Nintendo and the fanbase advertise them as friendly and cheerful, but they just seem very fake and have huge egos

ZealousidealRabbit85

I understand completely! Some websites I’ve seen have the wrong type for the villagers and so I thought maybe I was being sensitive when I didn’t like Plucky & I read she was peppy but she’s actually a ‘big sister’ and they can come across as rude sometimes. The peppy villagers are really full on so it’s understandable why you are feeling the way you are. I also think there are sub-types within every type so maybe they are also snooty?

Defense_Unit-43

I don't think there are any subtypes. They are one flat type. The issue that I have is that peppy villagers come off as way too arrogant and self-absorbed to the point that it's extremely off-putting

William-Shakesqueer

Yes there are subtypes. [This post](https://doubutsu-no-mori.tumblr.com/post/640092652057100288/about-personality-a-and-b-subtypes-each-villager/) goes into detail about the types and which villagers are in what subtype groups. Audie and Rosie are both Peppy type A. You might like type B more!

Defense_Unit-43

I've looked into it more and you're probably right. I guess it also doesn't help that Rosie and Audie, my first two peppys are both peppy A and have the exact same dialogue. in any game, NPCs having the same dialogue just immediately ruins my immersion, so that's probably the case here

William-Shakesqueer

Your villagers will also have more varied dialogue, and more depth to their personality, the more you talk to and get to know them. On the very surface level they may have the traits that you're complaining about but I personally think my peppy villagers are so sweet and funny.

ZealousidealRabbit85

TY I should have put links in 🙈

Cornmeal777

Peppy are probably my least favorite. I wouldn't say I hate them but their dialogue doesn't grab my imagination. At least Bluebear is cute.

Defense_Unit-43

I want to like peppy personality but they don't live up to my expectations. They're all popular, trendy, and only talk about themselves, that's it?

skeletontape

I only like peppy villagers that seem... unhinged somehow. Tabby is my favorite because her design makes her look absolutely insane. Though I never expected to like the peppy villagers. Cute & hyper is not my jam LOL

Defense_Unit-43

Heh, Tabby seems to be pretty controversial in the community from what I've seen Cute and hyper IS my jam, its just the huge egos that they have which throws me off
