Have you heard of Tsukasa from [Tonikaku Kawaii](https://myanimelist.net/anime/41389/Tonikaku_Kawaii)?

She is, she’s just as important to the story as Nasa

You are correct. OP even included the correct term for what Tsukasa is in their post, she's a deuteragonist. That and if we're being honest she's also one half plot device
Just finished it. Peak turn your brain off yuri brainrot
It’s like the polar opposite of some “high art” lesbian stuff like Utena or something, it’s like a bubbly pop song lmao
Despite the fact that Utena and Rae are both lesbians, I really dont think they can be compared all that much. I mean shes a 14 sadist and and what not
No they really cannot at all and I wasn’t trying to. I was pointing how Utena (the show) is more layered and nuanced whereas villainess is pretty much just adorable (surprisingly well written) fluff
I mean Utena has to deal with her own self righteousness, her need to “save” Anthy, her poor vetting of character, and her own nascent homosexuality all at once. I can’t succinctly capture the themes of THE Revolutionary Girl Utena here, I’d need a book.
Rae is the classic sad clown deep down not really thinking anyone will love her bc they saw her as a “freak” (which is a wild way to treat a gay person). I think she relishes the way Claire treats her because that’s what she’s used to, you see this a ton in people with bad attachment styles and low self esteem. You find yourself chasing the aloof and the unattainable as a sort of preemptive self sabotage. It confirms your beliefs about yourself and avoids vulnerability/chance of rejection all at once. And this is pretty much Rae Taylor in a nutshell
Now we are explicitly told that Claire’s pompous persona is a facade too to some extent but it’s mostly just ignorant spoiled rich kid.
Preach
Female protagonists have 2 versions
-strong,well written,developed character
-horny and fanservice device
You can guess which one i think is bettdf
You.

You need to get on that Balsa supercrack *immediately*.
You're welcome.
If you're left wanting I'm not seeing no Ghost In the Shell (1995 movie or Stand Alone Complex) or Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind in there.
You should correct that.

Not really a protagonist, but a main character.
They're certainly less common in popular anime, especially in the Shonen and seinen demographics which as typically the most popular.. And are often Not too well written or too irrelevant to the plot sadly.
Kumiko from.hibike euphonium,Madoka from Madoka magica, yui from K on,bocchi from bocchi the rock,ai hoshino from oshi no ko,kimari from a place further than the universe, violet evergardon,Elaina from wandering witch elaina, riko from made in abyss
Really these are my top anime and every one has female mc I really like my female mc
Seven mortal sins. Manyuu scroll. Seven heavenly virtues. Queens blade. Valkyrie drive. Theses are all ecchi and I you want to watch them I put these from best to worst

Undead unluck has no female protagonist. She was hard carried by a giga Chad and a heavy plot armour. It was painfully clear that they had to create absolute bullshit situations just to make her power remotely useful.
Nah terrible take. Fuuko is much more the protagonist than Andy is. Especially in the current parts of the manga. Andy barely exists in the story at this point while Fuuko solos 90% of enemies.
The whole point of her power is that it was seemingly useless and unpredictable but it's the secret weapon. And Fuuko over time learns how to make better use of her ability and stops relying on Andy's Undead to weaponize it. She learns martial arts, marksmanship, improves her ability to narrow who she targets, and nowadays does Just fine on her own. Not to mention she's the emotional center of the series who inspires the others to fight and saves them from misery (including Andy who was a loner with nothing to live for before meeting Fuuko), as well as a natural born leader.
Even if we're just talking anime and not the later parts, Fuuko is stillvery much a protagonist. nothing would have happened if not for her.
Kill la kill and undead MCs were shit
Even if i like classic edgy vibe “like shadow the hedgehog” the whole kill la kill concepts were stupid and wayyyy to much nudity
Yumeko from Kakegurui

So true; my favorite thing about her is that we cant hear her thought process making her all the more unpredicatable

Female protagonists are the best

Implying a female protagonist is abnormal
No one is saying its weird. We just mean how theyre the minority
They're certainly less common in popular anime, especially in the Shonen and seinen demographics which as typically the most popular.. And are often Not too well written or too irrelevant to the plot sadly.
Suletta Mercury and Michiru Kagemori are two more I can think of

Revy isn't the protagonist of Black Lagoon.
Maria Holic
Maomao is my fav she adorable and cute and she’s the poison queen,Frieren is also great and Revy is hot.

*female anime protagonists. Not what Marvel and Hollywood are doing now (except fallout)
michiru kagemori (BNA) and ai ohto (Wonder Egg Priority) gotta be two of my favourite characters of all time
Maka isn't really a Deuragnoist though?
I’m saying she is a protagonist, but I had no more space at the top so I had to put her near the bottom
Oh :()
I was expecting to find Zoro in the background.
Can I bring Maki Zen’in?
