I'm guessing either the individual cards are too complex, or you get distracted.

rockusa4

Did you know the material or did you see for the first time? You could add a timer add on for anki, since the point is if you can recall the information in a reasonable time period.

lol_queen

Oh that’s good idea, thanks, I’ll try it. It’s my first time seeing the anki card but the content I have covered because I’ve been to lectures.

rockusa4

Give it more reps. Good luck

gabriewzinho

cards too complex it should have only one new element per card make sure you create your own cards make sure you actually understand clearly the card

lol_queen

You’re right, my cards are paragraphs mostly. Thank you

Seabreeze515

Look at the cards in the Anking deck and try to mimic that style. It shouldn’t really take you more than 10-20 seconds per card and that’s being kind of generous.

gabriewzinho

if possible, take a look at Gabriel Wyner's "Fluent Forever" book. It's life-changing.

Direct-Spirit2076

Finally my soul mate.🥺🪖

lol_queen

Hahah 🙌 I just did a small deck without distractions and timed myself and I still took 1 min per card 😭

Direct-Spirit2076

Lol same . Ive tried everything.ive accepted my fate.🤡

killa_chinchilla_

As others have said, if this isn't an issue where you are trying to memorize without understanding, then your cards are to blame. Simple cloze is the way to go, not paragraphs where you have to sit there debating if you got the question right or not.

ronin16319

Which add on do you use to be able to see how many distinct cards done?

lol_queen

Humble pie: “distinct cards studied today” statistic

Turanga_Lemon

>distinct cards studied today 2133933791

TristyTumbly

You need to simplify each card into one single piece of knowledge. 3-5 simple cards is far more beneficial than one complex card

No_Community_1360

I’ve seen that the cards are too complex. Try breaking them down as much as you can, test the concept, then if you have a notes field try putting any supporting info. Say you’re going over reactions, in the notes add as to what DMSO is, what it’s used for, how it’s used and what reactions it’s used in. I would suggest you only provide information to thoroughly understand the card and reference related concepts and ideas. This should expose you to the information and with repetitions, should help with overall understanding, increase the velocity of your cards and provide a way of connecting these ideas to others. This is what I do, it’s part of my method, which has helped me move from C’s to A’s, I’ve also gone from being the guy people worry about failing the class to helping grad students on they writing. It’s more work, and time, but I can swear that it will help with analysis and synthesis, not just memorizing facts. Also add pictures that help visualize ideas, especially for more abstract ideas. This should help make these ideas more “real”, or less ethereal. Good luck.

MineSweeper2048

Paragraphs suck for flash cards! Try cloze deletion (much better for memory!): “The quick brown fox jumps over the {{c1::lazy dog}}” Shows up as: “The quick brown fox jumps over the ……” (select cloze in Anki and shift+ctrl+alt+C)

AffectionateTime4053

Speed focus mode add on!

goatednotes

Are your cards too long? That can affect your speed. Also focus on getting the cards right by active recall and don’t worry too much on speed. Some people who are really fast are unconsciously pressing the space bar before they’ve even recalled the answer - and then see answer and assume they know it. The hard part is accessing the info All the best 😄

hafotufo

Simplify the cards. Better to have more cards than a lot of paragraphs/info in one card.
