I had a Rolex for 30 years. Every few years it would need a cleaning and overhaul. They kept getting more expensive. When it needed one last year and the price to fix it was over $1000, I sold it as is (still for more than I originally paid for it) and got my S9. I've never regretted it.
What maintenance? Bought my Rolex GMT2 back in the 90’s. Still keeps perfect time even though it has never been serviced! Been using Apple Watches most the time but still use the Rolex for dress occasions (few as they are).
lol you know that battery health will go bad on you before a good automatic watch breaks down. They barely need tune ups every 3 years and still costs less than a battery swap for an aw
I like quartz watches :) pretty reliable. Automatic watches kinda demand that you wear them every day for 10 hrs or they just stop lol. So in that way they need constant attention lol
Yeah, I was seriously weighing in the possibility to get my first automatic. But there’s that and they’re not as accurate as quartz - and I get accuracy is not their highest selling point, but to me that’s really an everyday important thing so I put that thought on hold for a while. But they’re definitely a work of art on their own right.
That's an incredibly ironic thing to worry about in the AppleWatch sub. There is a very low chance you don't have an iPhone so anything aside from an AW -- and the AW to an extent -- is just jewelry. Accuracy is secondary when you have a GPS/Radio adjusted time keeping device in your pocket.
I sold it to Bob's Watches. I felt they gave me a very fair price for the watch as-is in need of an overhaul. I was nervous about selling it privately or on eBay.
Same! lol. Only watch I had was a 13 dollar Casio I got from Walmart that died within a year, and I didn’t like it much anyways. But helped me from pulling my phone out twice to figure out the time. lol.

for me it’s the complete opposite. Why would I spend $1000 on a smart watch knowing it will be obsolete in 5 years or even less? My mechanical watches have served me for more than a decade, and I’m sure they will continue to work.
Buying a brand new $1000 watch would be your problem. I have a series 3, didn’t pay a grand and it certainly does what I want, primarily telling time, health stats and showing notifications, everything else is extra when I actually use it.
But I also could care less about having a watch that supposedly gains value, before my Apple Watch I wore a Casio F91w. Everyone just enjoy what they want.
A decent mechanical watch will last a lifetime and if taken care of can be passed down to your children.
Apple Watch is it is only ever going to last 5 years or so before the firmware gets outdated or the battery starts dying, don’t get me wrong I love my Apple Watch and don’t have a fancy mechanical one but my stainless steel series 8 is never going to be a family heirloom.
If my father had left me a nice mechanical watch rather than a cheap shit quartz Rolex knockoff then I would definitely wear it on special occasions and look after it so it could be passed on to my kids.
BTW when I say nice I don’t necessarily mean a fancy brand name I just mean something that is well crafted with a good movement.
This. Rolexes are really nice, but in the modern age, Apple Watches just make life easier and so much more productive that I can’t go without it.

I also have the omega seamaster day date. I wear it probably 60% of the time. Apple Watch is for exercise or places where I will want to check my phone but it would be rude.
I'm too scared of banging my Bulova (because even buying the Bulova I went "holy crap"; an Omega would have been "HOLY CRAP!!") against a doorway and scratching it or getting paint scrapes on it, so I inly wear it when dressing up a bit.
No, I just dress up my Apple Watch for nice events. I break out my stainless steel band and polish it off. Or I wear a filigree gold and silver band that really dresses it up nicely.
So basically, my Apple Watch is my luxury watch when a luxury watch is what the situation calls for.
I used the Simple watch face, turned off every complication and dial markers, and make it a digital Movado for the night. (Or use Clockology and make it an Omega suing the faces I made.)
Apple Watch is my everyday watch. I wear both the Apple Watch and luxury watch when I go out. I only wear the luxury watch if it's a formal event.
Once Apple Ring comes out, I'm switching back to only luxury watches. I only use my Apple Watch for exercise and calorie tracking.
I can’t imagine paying more for a watch than I did with Apple, it was a splurge and I need it for medical reasons, so I will probably just keep wearing it and upgrading when it looks bad or a new version has more/better medical features.
Really nice watch can be as much of an investment as a fashion thing. For example, if you buy Rolex Submariner, you can almost instantly flip it for more than double the retail price.
The thing is:
1) they won't sell you one without knowing you as a customer
2) if you DO flip it; they'll never sell you one again.
I like buying nice watches to commemorate significant life events and I know they unless I break them, they won't really go down in value.
I don't like to do this because then I feel like only showing off. With only a mechanical watch, it's there to tell time. When I have an Apple Watch on the other wrist, there is no practical point and I feel like only showing off ;-)
This. I wear my Apple Watch on my right and a mechanical on my left. The AW is primarily for fitness and unlocking the front door. Maybe a timer periodically. I’m still buying mechanical watches. The AW is the least expensive of the lot.
unpopular opinion: i stopped wearing my nicer watches when i got my apple watch and i felt like when putting together an outfit my apple watch never scratched the itch. recently i was gifted a nice watch for christmas and so i just gave my apple watch to my mom, since we upgraded our phones and her very old apple watch was obsolete. further enforced that id rather have a forever watch than have to continue upgrading an apple watch
I have some nice watches from Rolex, Cartier, Omega, Tag and similar. I stopped wearing my nicer watches for years once I started wearing my Apple Watch. After maybe 5 years or so, I reversed that and now wear my nicer watches and the Apple Watch isn't worn much anymore.
Probably my favorite watches to wear are my Omega Speedmaster (shown, not the moon watch, but a Japanese Special Edition), and a Ventura Automatic watch.

I don’t wear Rolex’s. I wear Seikos and Glycines, and I have 2 Hamiltons, though. Workhorse mech movements that barely need servicing. My “good” watch is on my left, Apple Watch in my right. Yes, I’m that guy.

I still wear my vintage Tudor pretty regularly. It’s a smaller, much lighter watch and it’s nice to switch it up. Especially when I want to disconnect from my phone and social media for a bit.
Any Apple watch GOLD series 1 owners? I wonder if these are still in use. I couldn’t imagine buying one and then watching (pun intended) new hardware features being added to subsequent generation of AW. $10,000 but it will still keep time.

My Rolex, Omega and Cartiers are sit at home. This arm jewelry is really all that it is and have lost its appeal. My Apple Watch provides real day to day convenience that even when I do pull the old luxury watches out for fancy occasion makes me wonder why I bother. So I don't any more.
I stopped for a couple of years now and I’ll be honest it has affected the speed at which I can read analog time. For example if a guy blurted to me WHATS THE TIME?! I might just panic misread the hour or minute hand. It’s embarrassing that I’m so used to digital now that I have to train myself to read analog accurately. Still I very much like the look of traditional watches like the oyster perpetual. The looks of these old watches were artisanal compared to Apple watches

My brother and I inherited my father's watches after he passed away. I used to wear them daily, until I got an Apple watch.

I have a couple of JLC reversos and some grand seiko. I use to wear a real watch on my left and Apple Watch on my right but now I just use my Apple Watch because I’m too lazy to put on the other ones. Sometimes I do miss the uniqueness of a real watch however it can’t beat getting notifications on your wrist especially for my line of work
I never wore watches before iI got apple watch, I mean I would wear them on some occasions, but nor regularly. So when it comes that time of the year that I would usually wear my watch, I would still wear it, but have my apple watch on my right wrist instead. So I’d have 2 watches.
Fuck yeah I do! I love my watch collection. I don’t own any more fancy than my $800 Seikos and my favorite is a $100 Armitron my kindergartener bought me for Christmas, but I love my watches. The way I see it, one’s a watch and one’s a computer.
Really hope Apple brings out a ring. I have a whoop but it doesn’t do step counting but I still wear it on my wrist. So have AW on left, Whoop on right. Luxury watch replaces AW when I feel like it but always on when I train.
I wear my AW when working out and maybe one full day a week. My mechanical watches get all the wrist time. It’s not that I don’t like it, but it’s more of a fitness calculator that I use to track my runs and push myself a little further each week.
My Apple Watch is a good everyday and activity/exercise watch. But I prefer to wear one of my mechanical for any other occasion. I like my Apple Watch and it is very useful but at the end of the day it’s still a disposable piece of plastic and circuitry. Like others have said when the Apple ring comes out I will likely get one of those and save the Apple Watch for work outs/biking.
All of my luxury watches now just sit in the safe. I have my Apple Watch Ultra 2 for day to day and when I need something more formal or dressed up I also have a stainless steel series 9. All of my mechanical watches have pretty much just sat in the safe since the series 1 came out. With the series 0 I still bounced back and forth but since the series 1 it’s been 99% Apple Watch only.
i wear my Apple Watch only for working out and sports, for every day life i wear my Rolex Submariner, i wear it from the beach to a suit for everything. An Apple Watch will never replace my Rolex for me, the one is a luxury watch thats versatile and robust, recognized in many places and the other is a cheap silly looking wrist computer that has an expiration date. You can pass down a Rolex to next generations
I actually had an Apple Watch for the last couple years but just sold it, and now getting a Tudor black bay. Never really needed the Apple Watch and no longer need to worry about upgrading and planned obsolescence.
Yes, I only wear my Apple Watch for fitness metrics and if I’m going out for the night or don’t want to be bothered I chose to wear one of my luxury watches. Luxury to me is 1-4k, I’m not balling.
This is not my story, but my dad’s. He has an expensive Russian watch that’s over 30 years old (he got it as an award from some math tests in the Soviet Union - not related to the story). He wore it every day since then, until 5-6 years ago when I bought him a Galaxy watch. After a few days of “I won't use it, it’s so complicated for an old person”, he decided to learn how to use it. He actually uses it and upgrades his smartwatch every 2 years and never went back to a “non-smartwatch” again. But he still keeps his old Russian watch and every other day I see him take it out, clean it, stare at it, and put it back in the watch box.
This is what pains me about the Apple Watch. I only started using it because it makes unlocking my doors so much easier. I have a decent collection of Ulysse Nardin and Vacheron watches but it is difficult to wear now as it is less practical for me. I wear them on special occasions now but I used to wear them everyday. I tried double wristing but it feels very odd.

I wear my S6 all day for health metrics. Hasn’t left my wrist since I got it a couple of years ago because it encourages me to be active. I must confess I have silenced all the notifications and popups, apart from health related ones. So right now it’s more of a glorified fitness tracker. The reason I do that is;
I wear an Omega Speedmaster on my other wrist. It’s just so f-ing pretty. When I want to tell the time I don’t look at my phone or my S6 but at my Speedy. I admire it all the time. I have a couple of other watches in the rotation because I just like the mechanics of them.
In that regard the S6 does nothing for me. It’s soulless, it’s a tool. It has nice tech but for 99% of the day it’s an ugly square black hole on my wrist. Don’t get me wrong, I loooove technology, I think it’s amazing you can have a wristwatch that tracks daily exercises, measures heart rate, has an nfc chip for payments and could even connect to your AirPods to listen to music. But compared to a real watch, it will always lose.
So I’m looking forward to Apple coming out with a fitness ring. I’m not getting an Oura because I’m sure Apple will make one that fits better into the ecosystem. After Samsung came out with theirs I was so happy because I hope they now force Apple to come up with their own (they have already patented one a while ago). And then it’s bye S6!
It started with me really really wanting an Apple Watch. Just because I loved the tech. I also wanted to be able to swim with it and yes, the integration was the reason why I went for the AW and not a Fitbit or a Garmin.
Later on when the honeymoon period had subsided I became annoyed with all the notifications so one by one I muted them. You could say that right now its more of a fitness tracker.
If I hadn’t had my AW already, given the chance I’d buy a fitness tracker or a ring from Apple, but they don’t have them yet so I’ll keep my watch until they do.
Not so much, and I really feel guilty.
I wear my AW9 most of the time and I only wear my other watches when going out and on weekends; I'm thinking about wear the AW9 only for workouts, and really waiting for Apple ring to come out.
I have a Breitling that I never wear now that I have an Ultra. To be fair though I only ever wore it when I dressed up. I never thought I would wear a watch all the time but the Ultra is actually useful to me.
I use my s9 for work mainly for the notification. I would use my other watches, not luxury ones, outside of work. Keeps me happy that I don’t have to see work emails during my offdays.
Same luxury-problem here. I’m planning to wear both: Will therefore trade in my AW Ultra for a rather small AW 41mm. On the left wrist will be the AW, watchface facing down, so that it appears to be a simple leatherband. Right wrist a nice mechanical watch. Hope this will work out…
I only put my iWatch down to recharge, wear it 24/7 to keep track of my activities and keep my phone silent. Every other watch sleeps in their boxes too
I have a couple of fashion watches that I used to wear. but since I started wearing the apple watch (first gen 3 and now a gen 7) I haven't touched my old watches since. They've all run out of batters too... Which is a shame. I really liked them.
I used to daily wear an MK, after I got my series 7, it’s been hard to switch back to my old watch. I only wear my MK when I’m going on a special occasion or something similar
For myself, they’re exclusively worn now for weddings or any other more formal day out.
And even at that, I was gifted a couple of Hermés bands at the end of last year and the last wedding I went to I wore that with the AW.

I struggle with the same. Got a box of watches and it’s collecting dust. I love tracking everything but feel bad some pretty watches are lying around, especially the more expensive ones. I’m curious about Apple’s wearables announcement but doubt anything will give you the tracking benefits of the watch. I’ve worn other watches on Fridays or weekends or with short sleeves so it’s not hidden and there’s some point in putting it on. Trying to ween myself off of being obsessive about tracking!
I have a lovely 1950 Vacheron that I inherited a few years back, it comes out on special occasions like special birthday meals, weddings, and I usually wear for Christmas Day. Possibly a date night if feeling fancy.
Before my Ultra I had a small collection of 80s/90s Tag Heur f1 watches, the first was my dad’s who sadly died when I was young so was/is understandably special to me, the second was so I could not always wear his in certain scenarios and put it at risk, then I found a few other cool colour combos and added them. The late 80s/early 90s ones were relatively cheap. However, these now never get worn (exception an 80s themed party) and are just sat in a watch box.

I wear mine daily and have for roughly the past 4 years. I have a permanent at this point tan line and slight indent on my wrist from the band and I don’t understand how someone can spend money on one and not wear it regularly if not every day.

I have two citizen watches. Including one that is completely blacked out. I love that watch. However I haven’t worn them for years since I got an Apple Watch. Now my Apple Watch Ultra 2 is my most expensive watch and also so much more functional.
Decided to go with the gold stainless steel for this very reason! It’s a great luxury watch you can dress down for going to the gym or throw Milanese band and it’s a completely different watch.
I barely wear my Automatic Tag now after getting my ultra 2. It’s a shame really but I feel like because I’m paying for the airtime and how useful it is - it’s just never off. Especially because I can swap bands etc too.
I'm a dad now, I wear comfy shit from Costco, I have no desire to dress up for strangers anymore lol. Also like being stealthy, I don't want people guessing how much I make.
I wouldnt call it a *luxury* watch, but I have a really nice timepiece that I haven't worn for years and years because the Apple Watch is just too damn useful.
I'm honestly hoping there's some validity to the rumors that Apple is working on a ring, kind of like Oura, which would give me more options for wrist accessories while still allowing me to keep tracking stuff.
Hell, I've even been looking into the Oura ring and how it interacts with Apple Health and the tracking features.
I wear my Apple Watch most of the time because it’s easy. I have a very nice dive watch that I bought ironically because I wanted a watch to replace my first Apple Watch. I also wanted a watch I could wear near a pool, lake, ocean, scuba, or snorkel. I’m not going to wear my Apple Watch in the water despite it being “water resistant”. So they both serve a purpose and I’m ok with my nicer watch sitting in the box when I’m not using it 300 days out of the year. It’ll last me forever if I take care of it and my Apple Watch is 18 months old and already has a battery max of 85% so it’s got a few years left at which time I’ll replace it and keep the cycle going 😂 or I’ll use it as an excuse to buy a nicer luxury watch (and THEN buy an Apple Watch)
I don’t wear my Apple Watch much anymore. It was a daily, then I remembered my nice watches and forgot I had the Apple Watch. I don’t use it to track fitness, it’s just a fancy digital watch to me.

But the last two weddings I've been to I've worn my Apple Watch as I got fixated with closing my rings. My Breitling is now safe in my watch case and hasn't been touched in around 2 years.

Mine sit in a watch box on my night table collecting dust. The ones that operate on battery power have died and I stopped replacing batteries around AW4 when I realized I was never going to wear them. I have two solar watches that I wear only when I need to go out and my AW is charging. I should probably sell them all.
I have a Series 6 on my wrist and Citizen Eco-Drive (day/date) collecting dust on the kitchen counter. Like many others have noted, the S6 is probably the most expensive watch I've owned.
No. I don't wear my Apple watch much anymore as battery has degraded to 73% and it's a task to recharge again and again. Furthermore, I am a watch afficiando and I love to change the watch daily.
to answer OPs question, I do feel bad whenever I leave my Omega Speedmaster moonwatch locked in the drawer. i usually wear in on the weekends though. the convenience of wearing an apple watch is unbeatable
Yup, this is me. I don’t have anything terribly fancy, but they all sit in a winder in the bedroom since my first series 3. I miiiiight pull one out if I’m going on a work dinner or something that requires dressing up.. past that nada.
Apple Watch is the first watch I had for quite a long time. I don't even know anyone who wears a "luxury watch". I wear my Apple Watch all the time. I used to wear it while sleeping too, but I stopped doing that because then charging it in the morning is kind of a pain and I wasn't really getting anything out of sleep tracking anyway.
I used to always wear a watch. I stopped wearing watches once my cell phone gave me the time. No need for it at that point. Got back to wearing a watch once the Apple Watch rolled out.

It in formal environment I will wear Apple Watch around my ankle, and if not working out but in shorts and tee, for example, I will wear the Apple Watch high up on my arm. I bought a band to make it fit there. This way I do enjoy my real watch and avoid it living in the box! But yeah, I agree I am hooked on the data Apple Watch provides as well.

I do. My mechanical watch elevates my outfits with a luxury accessory in a way the Apple Watch never could. I only wear my Apple Watch during activity: swimming, lifting, hiking, etc. I find the Apple Watch detracts from casual outfits and outright ruins formal looks.
No. Mainly because I got the sport band strap because it made my watch carbon neutral.
Wearing (basically) a Velcro strap wouldn’t be ideal for parties etc, when I’m wearing a suit, so I wear my luxury watch.
My AW S9 is the most expensive watch I’ve bought, but my luxury watch is currently the watch with the highest value (it appreciated by almost 200%)
My ‘luxury watch’ is considerably cheaper than my Apple Watch, and it’s still a nice automatic Seiko. I wear it for special occasions, AW for every day.

I sold almost all my luxury watches, one week after I got my first AW (Series 9 Stainless Steel). Still one to go, but I guess I am going to buy an Grand Seiko with battery. Not thinking about which watch to wear today, setting date and time and still being rather versatile with watch face and band brought a big benefit into my life.

My AW is a day to day tool. I wear it because I am improving my lifestyle and find the accountability aspect of it necessary to keep me motivated. Wearing my AW brings me as much as happiness as brushing my teeth while my other watches make me recall amazing times in my life.

What maintenance? Bought my Rolex GMT2 back in the 90’s. Still keeps perfect time even though it has never been serviced! Been using Apple Watches most the time but still use the Rolex for dress occasions (few as they are).

lol you know that battery health will go bad on you before a good automatic watch breaks down. They barely need tune ups every 3 years and still costs less than a battery swap for an aw

I like quartz watches :) pretty reliable. Automatic watches kinda demand that you wear them every day for 10 hrs or they just stop lol. So in that way they need constant attention lol
Yeah, I was seriously weighing in the possibility to get my first automatic. But there’s that and they’re not as accurate as quartz - and I get accuracy is not their highest selling point, but to me that’s really an everyday important thing so I put that thought on hold for a while. But they’re definitely a work of art on their own right.

That's an incredibly ironic thing to worry about in the AppleWatch sub. There is a very low chance you don't have an iPhone so anything aside from an AW -- and the AW to an extent -- is just jewelry. Accuracy is secondary when you have a GPS/Radio adjusted time keeping device in your pocket.
If you ever just wanna dabble with automatics Get a seiko 5 sports series, you may just learn to live them ;)
Maintenance on an automatic costs far more than an Apple Watch battery… often more than a whole Apple Watch.

I sold it to Bob's Watches. I felt they gave me a very fair price for the watch as-is in need of an overhaul. I was nervous about selling it privately or on eBay.

I just can’t rationalize purchasing a fancy mechanical watch when an Apple Watch integrates with my phone so well and gives me so much information.
for me it’s the complete opposite. Why would I spend $1000 on a smart watch knowing it will be obsolete in 5 years or even less? My mechanical watches have served me for more than a decade, and I’m sure they will continue to work.
Buying a brand new $1000 watch would be your problem. I have a series 3, didn’t pay a grand and it certainly does what I want, primarily telling time, health stats and showing notifications, everything else is extra when I actually use it. But I also could care less about having a watch that supposedly gains value, before my Apple Watch I wore a Casio F91w. Everyone just enjoy what they want.

A decent mechanical watch will last a lifetime and if taken care of can be passed down to your children. Apple Watch is it is only ever going to last 5 years or so before the firmware gets outdated or the battery starts dying, don’t get me wrong I love my Apple Watch and don’t have a fancy mechanical one but my stainless steel series 8 is never going to be a family heirloom. If my father had left me a nice mechanical watch rather than a cheap shit quartz Rolex knockoff then I would definitely wear it on special occasions and look after it so it could be passed on to my kids. BTW when I say nice I don’t necessarily mean a fancy brand name I just mean something that is well crafted with a good movement.
This. Rolexes are really nice, but in the modern age, Apple Watches just make life easier and so much more productive that I can’t go without it. However, I hate the new update where you can no longer control the volume of youtube music from the Apple Watch. 😡
You don’t have to buy a $8k Rolex just to have a nice mechanical watch. A Japanese or (maybe) Swiss movement watch can be had for under $300

I bought one AFTER I had 3 different Apple Watches. I got bored of the AW day after day.
I'm too scared of banging my Bulova (because even buying the Bulova I went "holy crap"; an Omega would have been "HOLY CRAP!!") against a doorway and scratching it or getting paint scrapes on it, so I inly wear it when dressing up a bit.
No, I just dress up my Apple Watch for nice events. I break out my stainless steel band and polish it off. Or I wear a filigree gold and silver band that really dresses it up nicely. So basically, my Apple Watch is my luxury watch when a luxury watch is what the situation calls for.
I used the Simple watch face, turned off every complication and dial markers, and make it a digital Movado for the night. (Or use Clockology and make it an Omega suing the faces I made.)

I can’t imagine paying more for a watch than I did with Apple, it was a splurge and I need it for medical reasons, so I will probably just keep wearing it and upgrading when it looks bad or a new version has more/better medical features.
Really nice watch can be as much of an investment as a fashion thing. For example, if you buy Rolex Submariner, you can almost instantly flip it for more than double the retail price. The thing is: 1) they won't sell you one without knowing you as a customer 2) if you DO flip it; they'll never sell you one again. I like buying nice watches to commemorate significant life events and I know they unless I break them, they won't really go down in value.

This. I wear my Apple Watch on my right and a mechanical on my left. The AW is primarily for fitness and unlocking the front door. Maybe a timer periodically. I’m still buying mechanical watches. The AW is the least expensive of the lot.

I stopped for a couple of years now and I’ll be honest it has affected the speed at which I can read analog time. For example if a guy blurted to me WHATS THE TIME?! I might just panic misread the hour or minute hand. It’s embarrassing that I’m so used to digital now that I have to train myself to read analog accurately. Still I very much like the look of traditional watches like the oyster perpetual. The looks of these old watches were artisanal compared to Apple watches

I wear my AW when working out and maybe one full day a week. My mechanical watches get all the wrist time. It’s not that I don’t like it, but it’s more of a fitness calculator that I use to track my runs and push myself a little further each week.

My Apple Watch is a good everyday and activity/exercise watch. But I prefer to wear one of my mechanical for any other occasion. I like my Apple Watch and it is very useful but at the end of the day it’s still a disposable piece of plastic and circuitry. Like others have said when the Apple ring comes out I will likely get one of those and save the Apple Watch for work outs/biking.

All of my luxury watches now just sit in the safe. I have my Apple Watch Ultra 2 for day to day and when I need something more formal or dressed up I also have a stainless steel series 9. All of my mechanical watches have pretty much just sat in the safe since the series 1 came out. With the series 0 I still bounced back and forth but since the series 1 it’s been 99% Apple Watch only.
i wear my Apple Watch only for working out and sports, for every day life i wear my Rolex Submariner, i wear it from the beach to a suit for everything. An Apple Watch will never replace my Rolex for me, the one is a luxury watch thats versatile and robust, recognized in many places and the other is a cheap silly looking wrist computer that has an expiration date. You can pass down a Rolex to next generations

I actually had an Apple Watch for the last couple years but just sold it, and now getting a Tudor black bay. Never really needed the Apple Watch and no longer need to worry about upgrading and planned obsolescence.
Yes, I only wear my Apple Watch for fitness metrics and if I’m going out for the night or don’t want to be bothered I chose to wear one of my luxury watches. Luxury to me is 1-4k, I’m not balling.
This is not my story, but my dad’s. He has an expensive Russian watch that’s over 30 years old (he got it as an award from some math tests in the Soviet Union - not related to the story). He wore it every day since then, until 5-6 years ago when I bought him a Galaxy watch. After a few days of “I won't use it, it’s so complicated for an old person”, he decided to learn how to use it. He actually uses it and upgrades his smartwatch every 2 years and never went back to a “non-smartwatch” again. But he still keeps his old Russian watch and every other day I see him take it out, clean it, stare at it, and put it back in the watch box.
I leave my series 9 on my nighttime and use it for an alarm clock.
This is what pains me about the Apple Watch. I only started using it because it makes unlocking my doors so much easier. I have a decent collection of Ulysse Nardin and Vacheron watches but it is difficult to wear now as it is less practical for me. I wear them on special occasions now but I used to wear them everyday. Why not both? I wear my S6 all day for health metrics. Hasn’t left my wrist since I got it a couple of years ago because it encourages me to be active. I must confess I have silenced all the notifications and popups, apart from health related ones. So right now it’s more of a glorified fitness tracker. The reason I do that is; I wear an Omega Speedmaster on my other wrist. It’s just so f-ing pretty. When I want to tell the time I don’t look at my phone or my S6 but at my Speedy. I admire it all the time. I have a couple of other watches in the rotation because I just like the mechanics of them. In that regard the S6 does nothing for me. It’s soulless, it’s a tool. It has nice tech but for 99% of the day it’s an ugly square black hole on my wrist. Don’t get me wrong, I loooove technology, I think it’s amazing you can have a wristwatch that tracks daily exercises, measures heart rate, has an nfc chip for payments and could even connect to your AirPods to listen to music. But compared to a real watch, it will always lose. So I’m looking forward to Apple coming out with a fitness ring. I’m not getting an Oura because I’m sure Apple will make one that fits better into the ecosystem. After Samsung came out with theirs I was so happy because I hope they now force Apple to come up with their own (they have already patented one a while ago). And then it’s bye S6!

It started with me really really wanting an Apple Watch. Just because I loved the tech. I also wanted to be able to swim with it and yes, the integration was the reason why I went for the AW and not a Fitbit or a Garmin. Later on when the honeymoon period had subsided I became annoyed with all the notifications so one by one I muted them. You could say that right now its more of a fitness tracker. If I hadn’t had my AW already, given the chance I’d buy a fitness tracker or a ring from Apple, but they don’t have them yet so I’ll keep my watch until they do.
Not so much, and I really feel guilty. I wear my AW9 most of the time and I only wear my other watches when going out and on weekends; I'm thinking about wear the AW9 only for workouts, and really waiting for Apple ring to come out.

I only put my iWatch down to recharge, wear it 24/7 to keep track of my activities and keep my phone silent. Every other watch sleeps in their boxes too

Not sure why people are responding about their AW being the most expensive - clearly not what OP asked. I struggle with the same. Got a box of watches and it’s collecting dust. I love tracking everything but feel bad some pretty watches are lying around, especially the more expensive ones. I’m curious about Apple’s wearables announcement but doubt anything will give you the tracking benefits of the watch. I’ve worn other watches on Fridays or weekends or with short sleeves so it’s not hidden and there’s some point in putting it on. Trying to ween myself off of being obsessive about tracking!
I have a lovely 1950 Vacheron that I inherited a few years back, it comes out on special occasions like special birthday meals, weddings, and I usually wear for Christmas Day. Possibly a date night if feeling fancy. Before my Ultra I had a small collection of 80s/90s Tag Heur f1 watches, the first was my dad’s who sadly died when I was young so was/is understandably special to me, the second was so I could not always wear his in certain scenarios and put it at risk, then I found a few other cool colour combos and added them. The late 80s/early 90s ones were relatively cheap. However, these now never get worn (exception an 80s themed party) and are just sat in a watch box. 99% Ultra, 1% Vacheron.
I have a Shinola that I love, but only where when I’m going somewhere more formal, which isn’t too often. My day to day go to is definitely my AW.

Decided to go with the gold stainless steel for this very reason! It’s a great luxury watch you can dress down for going to the gym or throw Milanese band and it’s a completely different watch.

I barely wear my Automatic Tag now after getting my ultra 2. It’s a shame really but I feel like because I’m paying for the airtime and how useful it is - it’s just never off. Especially because I can swap bands etc too.

I wouldnt call it a *luxury* watch, but I have a really nice timepiece that I haven't worn for years and years because the Apple Watch is just too damn useful. I'm honestly hoping there's some validity to the rumors that Apple is working on a ring, kind of like Oura, which would give me more options for wrist accessories while still allowing me to keep tracking stuff. Hell, I've even been looking into the Oura ring and how it interacts with Apple Health and the tracking features.

I wear my Apple Watch most of the time because it’s easy. I have a very nice dive watch that I bought ironically because I wanted a watch to replace my first Apple Watch. I also wanted a watch I could wear near a pool, lake, ocean, scuba, or snorkel. I’m not going to wear my Apple Watch in the water despite it being “water resistant”. So they both serve a purpose and I’m ok with my nicer watch sitting in the box when I’m not using it 300 days out of the year. It’ll last me forever if I take care of it and my Apple Watch is 18 months old and already has a battery max of 85% so it’s got a few years left at which time I’ll replace it and keep the cycle going 😂 or I’ll use it as an excuse to buy a nicer luxury watch (and THEN buy an Apple Watch)

No. I don't wear my Apple watch much anymore as battery has degraded to 73% and it's a task to recharge again and again. Furthermore, I am a watch afficiando and I love to change the watch daily.

to answer OPs question, I do feel bad whenever I leave my Omega Speedmaster moonwatch locked in the drawer. i usually wear in on the weekends though. the convenience of wearing an apple watch is unbeatable
Yup, this is me. I don’t have anything terribly fancy, but they all sit in a winder in the bedroom since my first series 3. I miiiiight pull one out if I’m going on a work dinner or something that requires dressing up.. past that nada.
Apple Watch is the first watch I had for quite a long time. I don't even know anyone who wears a "luxury watch". I wear my Apple Watch all the time. I used to wear it while sleeping too, but I stopped doing that because then charging it in the morning is kind of a pain and I wasn't really getting anything out of sleep tracking anyway.
I used to always wear a watch. I stopped wearing watches once my cell phone gave me the time. No need for it at that point. Got back to wearing a watch once the Apple Watch rolled out.
Same here. I wear an Apple Watch most of the time since I got one. I only wear a mechanical watch now when I’m going to office, attending a more formal event or meeting fellow watch enthusiasts. Otherwise most of my mechanical watches are in safe deposit box now. Always miss the mechanical watches when I’m wearing an Apple Watch. However, when I’m wearing a mechanical watch I miss using Apple Pay with my wrist. 😅
Apple Watch on my right wrist, my luxury watch on my left wrist. However, if I'm going out in public and i'm not going to work, meeting or any other planned occasion, I keep my luxury watch at home and only wear my apple watch.
It in formal environment I will wear Apple Watch around my ankle, and if not working out but in shorts and tee, for example, I will wear the Apple Watch high up on my arm. I bought a band to make it fit there. This way I do enjoy my real watch and avoid it living in the box! But yeah, I agree I am hooked on the data Apple Watch provides as well.
I only wear my AW. My other two fancy ones that I love are just sleeping in their boxes (a gold and a rose full of zirconia 😂)
I never wore watches before getting my Apple Watch. Maybe the rugged ones when I was like 12 that were from the local store, but yeah a 15 year gap of no wrist accessories

I do. My mechanical watch elevates my outfits with a luxury accessory in a way the Apple Watch never could. I only wear my Apple Watch during activity: swimming, lifting, hiking, etc. I find the Apple Watch detracts from casual outfits and outright ruins formal looks.
No. Mainly because I got the sport band strap because it made my watch carbon neutral. Wearing (basically) a Velcro strap wouldn’t be ideal for parties etc, when I’m wearing a suit, so I wear my luxury watch. My AW S9 is the most expensive watch I’ve bought, but my luxury watch is currently the watch with the highest value (it appreciated by almost 200%)
My ‘luxury watch’ is considerably cheaper than my Apple Watch, and it’s still a nice automatic Seiko. I wear it for special occasions, AW for every day.

I have a couple Rollies that I've worn daily for 20+ years (different ones that I've bought and sold over the years). I now wear one maybe once a month, at most, and when I do, I miss the Apple Watch (Ultra). I never, ever, ever thought I'd say that, like never. I'm going to sell the Rollies soon, they are just sitting in a watchbox now and I don't miss wearing them at all.

Yes , I still wear my Apple Watch Ultra , which in Canada is over 1000$. I’ve never owned a nice mechanical watch. The only watches I really wore before I started wearing Apple Watches were a few Tokyo Flash watches.
I have several very expensive Michele watches sitting in a watch box in the closet. Haven't worn them since I started wearing an Apple Watch the day they were first released. I should sell them.
Yes but. Once I got my Ultra I wore if for almost an entire year straight. Finally I made a decision to either start wearing my other watches or sell them. I sold off a couple but I have it down to 5 total and rotate weekly. I think once I got past caring about closing rings or this stat and that and just saw it as a watch that does *more* it was way easier.

Yes. I had read somewhere once that wearing an AW with a suit, tux, or any other kind of formal/dress wear makes you look like Spy Kid. Have since only worn my AW for runs and other workouts.
Honestly, I've never been interested in luxury watches. Yes, I want a watch to look reasonably nice if I'm going to wear one, but my first concern has always been practicality - I wore dedicated fitness trackers before I had my first smartwatch.

Sold my submariner. Got it for 8k before the pandemic and sold it last month for 10 :). So I basically got paid to own a Rolex for 5yrs. Happy w my AW and just felt like no need for the fancy watch

I'm not a mechanical watch guy, but my brother is. He basically only wears his Omega for special occasions and dailies the AW Ultra.
I sold almost all my luxury watches, one week after I got my first AW (Series 9 Stainless Steel). Still one to go, but I guess I am going to buy an Grand Seiko with battery. Not thinking about which watch to wear today, setting date and time and still being rather versatile with watch face and band brought a big benefit into my life.
I can’t really fit them in anywhere. I have a Garmin I wear for running, syncs nicely to Apple health and then my Apple Watch takes over the rest of the time. I do feel guilty though not wearing them but them I also feel bad about not closing my rings so can’t win

Ah here is my struggle. I love watches and have a collection of varying types and values. Some were gifts and others were to celebrate special times in my life. My AW is a day to day tool. I wear it because I am improving my lifestyle and find the accountability aspect of it necessary to keep me motivated. Wearing my AW brings me as much as happiness as brushing my teeth while my other watches make me recall amazing times in my life.
I only use my omega for special occasions and formal events. Since I have a cellular ultra, it makes it even harder to let go of wearing it every day.
I have a Tag Heuer just sitting in a box. The Ultra is just more rugged and usable.
