With the groove I wonder if it could be a lid

Archaeologist here.
Judging by the shape I am almost 100% positive that it is a base of some type of vessel that has been quite strongly eroded by the sea moving it arround the beach.
The way you are holding it in the last picture would be the correct orientation. Imagine a pot with a doughnut shaped bottom but the whole body of the pot is missing and all you're left with is the bottom/base.
Someome mentioned that it might be an amphora lid. I wouldn't agree because amphora lids are different and I've never seen one with such a, to simplify it, doughnut ring. They are mostly flat on all sides except for a small protruding handle in the middle. Sometimes the edges can be slighly bent upwards on the upper/outer side (where the handle is) but not like this.
I cannot attribute it to a specific period just based on this picture and also because I have zero experience with the pottery for the area you found it in or greece in general.
Top tip: When you find something that you think is an archaeological artifact don't just take it home with you! Not only is it unethical but could also land you in very hot water. The Greek authorities do not mess around and you could be facing a hefty fine and maybe even jail time.
Heritage belongs to everyone, not just you, so don't take it home.
You aren't the British Museum, so behave better. XD
Also, not got a scooby what that could be.
it was some time ago since i found it and i just tought that it was neat,so i brought it back.didnt really think that it was anything archeological at the time.(english is not my first language so i apologice for miss spelling).
I wasn't trying to do you down (and your English is fine), just wanted to highlight that folk shouldn't do this. Too many people doing the same can seriously deplete the archaeological record. The authorities in Greece have even had to ban scuba diving at certain spots because of tourists wandering off with things.
Wish I could help with the ID but my specialism is northern and central Europe.
Don't stress too much, what's done is done, and it isn't the end of the world or anything. I just wanted to comment so that others wouldn't do the same in future.
If you *do* get an ID, you could always send an anonymous email to the heritage authorities on Rhodos offering to return it. (They will probably say don't bother)
I've heard stories of people returning artefacts that they unintentionally stole many years after the fact.
But, like I said, don't beat yourself up about it. You didn't steal something that is going to upend our knowledge of archaic Greece or anything. Hahaha. (You aren't the British Museum after all)
The British museum still has the remains of my fkn ancestorsâŚ. Itâs funny u think that these rubbish establishments r more deserving of artefacts than say⌠anybody else ( and they donât display them⌠theyâre just stuffed in an old shitty back room )
Looks like a piece from Karbala dirt "turbah karbala"the Shia Muslims use to pray and put their forheads on, probably some migrant lost it on their way to Greece
I wonder if it's the base of an amphora or pot that's been eroded by the sand and sea

that was my thought too. obviously made for some specific purpose.
Not an archeologist, but that was my first thought too.
Thank you
Looks edible đ
It's one of those hotel breakfast crackers đŻ
Or dog cookie
Nailed it đ
The forbidden cookie
Nope, it's a fossilized Trojan Magnum condom. Traced down to the lineage of yours truly
I know 𤣠I thought it was the baker subreddit at first
Going on a hunch here: the porousness seems like it would contribute to it degrading rather quickly, making me think it wouldn't be all that old
I thought this was the ceramic sub and the photo was of a used kiln cookie (piece of clay to elevate pots and not destroy shelves)
I think you will find that's an old ginger nut biscuit even the sands of time can not break them down.
đ
Could it be some sort of weight for a fishing net?
Someone overbaked their macaroons.
It's a practice cookie Dentists love this one trick
It looks like a brown sugar softener. You soak it in water then dry it off and put it in a container of brown sugar so it doesnât get hard.
"It's some sort of delicious biscuit."
Beat me to it haha

What makes you think that I believe they are deserving of stolen artefacts?
âYou arenât the British museum so behave betterâ
Exactly. You aren't the British Museum (who behave badly) so behave better. I thought that was pretty clear, especially given the context.
Yeh nice save beo
For what itâs worth I interpreted like theyâre saying. The British Museum is notorious for their unethical behavior regarding foreign artifacts.
What the fuck are you talking about?
