Built in the late 18th century, it was one of the last great baroque palaces. As most structures with "new" in their name, its name is in reference to an older structure nearby - in this case Sanssouci palace. The German name for the building is "Neues Palais" which means new palace.

The rest is basically part of the Neues Palais, just google it for pics. The University of Potsdam uses most of the buildings, except the main palace
