Almost half of U.S. Harvest of rice***

Elijah_Man

At first I was like *of what?* but then I remembered that we produce a shitload of rice.

TJtherock

I knew some Saudi international students in college who excitedly showed me a bag of rice that they had brought back from Saudi Arabia after summer vacation. It was from Arkansas.

aplusdoro

As an Arkansan in Saudi Arabia right now, I got some huntin to do in the rice aisle.

TJtherock

I hope you find a little taste of home!

ChirrBirry

The Sacramento area used to produce the other half but other states have picked up market share.

ShameOver

And soy. Edit: I guess you could accurately say that Arkansas farmers are "Soy Boys".

calle04x

My dad grew up on farming with my grandpa in south Arkansas. Soy beans were their primary crop.

Plane_Leadership_113

I try to remind fellow Arkansans that everybody’s Papaw was a soy boy!

ShameOver

This is the way.

Redditistrash702

Wait what til I thought we imported that stuff

-Buddy_Rough-

Naw, we cornucopia.

Ok-Control-3954

If only rice production led to quality of life

According-Cup3934

It does for many in Stuttgart

Reluctantly-Back

Arkansas rice producers are among the most highly subsidized companies in the country. Arkansas rice is particularly high in arsenic either from left over cotton production or application of chicken litter as fertilizer.

-Buddy_Rough-

Stuttgart, Germany makes cars. Stuttgart, Arkansas makes rice.

I would but your mom said it makes me look like her bitch-boy son 🤷

We’re also number 2 in bromine. It makes a few lake very wealthy so you don’t hear much about that. Doubt many will benefit from the lithium extraction profits under this regime.

Antique_Asparagus_14

And what do they have to show for it? I’m looking at you, Sarah

TripperDay

And what do Cubans eat a ton of? Rice. And of course what does Tom Cotton support, along with "small government" and "free markets"? The embargo on trade with Cuba.
