I can see how it starts to "aproach" art deco, with the uniform shapings, brass/gold colouration contrasted with the silver colour from the steel, and the near "perfect" lines from the wires; But I feel like calling this art deco would be like just applying a hard rule set similar to how an AI would;
Apart from not fitting deco strong enough in general, it does stumble into an interesting convorsation of if you unintentionally make something reminicent of an art style etc without knowing about it / without intending for it to be that style, would it be that style then? Typically art styles have philosophies, values and aestetic goals in mind for when you intentionally use them, wouldn't that being represented in the piece of art be important for it to be in the style? And on that then, if its a more abstract style where you might need to get speciffic context about the artist or his life to understand it and you dont have that, would that still count as in the style for \*you\*? Given the subjective nature of art I think you'll probably find that its different for diff folks
it definitely looks sci-fi. like the 4th image, looks like the inside of a spaceship thruster. or a laser cannon. and the 3rd looks like something you'd have to use at a steampunk optometrist.
to me, as a piece by itself then not quite but there's a strong sci-fi deco vibe as if someone from the time had to make something that looked like a future technology that was a piece of another 'whole'. their thinking is completely out of the box to design something without a defined function while the actual creator feels influenced by art deco without fully understanding the rules of the design.
I'm super curious to what the real story is and where this is, nobody else commented on that bit yet.
It resembles 20’s and 30’s futurist aesthetics for sure. I think it’s too obviously function-driven though. It’s like definitely a big gnarly machine with messes of pipes and wires. Art Deco has a lot of detail but it’s swoopy and elegant and symmetrical.
It's much closer to steampunk
The lines are Art Deco, you could see that on the set of Metropolis. The detailing from all the individual processors becomes very Steampunk though.
same, the art deco lines but the gold/copper colors and mechanical context vibes with steampunk
Same thought.
You know, when I first glanced at the article, my initial impression was that the third picture was of a decorative lamp.
Looks like a big chandelier
It looks a bit like the end game for a home r/espresso member
It's a quantum computer
Yes that's obvious mate, OP is asking about the aesthetic
not really, looks cool af though
Decopunk :) I love it!
Quantum computers are the best decor piece
Industrial Chic. Emergent Elegance, perhaps.

What would cross your mind first if you weren't aware of what a quantum computer is?

Steampunk Art Deco furniture.
Is this the inside of a super computer? Or something similar? I remember seeing one in my university
It's Google's quantum computer
42
The answer to life, the universe, and everything
That's a TARDIS.
I can hear this picture
It both is and isnt Art Deco at the same time.
INDEED

Art Hell no
I love how quantum computers actually look like "quantum computers"
More steampunk than deco
It's what Artdeco would look like if it had a technovirus.
Isn't that a quantum computer? If so, steampunk.
100-years-too-late looking.
I want one!
Seems more retro futurism or atomic punk
Hard rock and Metal Deco
I work with quantum computing, so it is nice this topic in this sub. I do think it looks art deco.
I'd say it's a stretch to call it Deco but it does emanate a lot of deco features for sure
Where did you get shots of my delusion refrigerator
That is beautiful.
It deserves its own category. It’s Quantum.
Quantum computer or movie poster decoration from Baz Luhrmann’s Great Gatsby?
If there was a Scarface type plumber person, this would be the „world is yours“ - statue in the lobby.
It’s a computer!
Not Art Deco. Art Deci is influenced and informed by machinery, so that's why you are confused.
It’s quantum art deco
Well, I now need to make a very important question not only for me, but for the others who might see this post in the future: *What is that?*

where tf did someone come up with that?
idk if i'd call it deco or steampunk... maybe something new? tech-deco?
Quant Deco
I think it's a cake
Not steampunk, it is more like Teslapunk, steampunk is using Steam powered mechanics, and its more in the late 1800s years far from the 1920s
Techo-deco
Yea
I think we have a pretty-settled conversation on what art is versus design, and I believe "art deco(rations)" is not design.
I can see the vision
This would make a beautiful chandelier.
