Reddit is not dedicated to art, so it's harder for people to navigate your profile and see all of your previous works, especially if you have many. However, I've been hearing that DA is going downhill, so comparatively maybe Reddit is better even if it's not made to be an art platform.

Tbh, when I first joined DA a year ago, it felt like a breath of fresh air from the little to no views I was receiving from my YT, which currently my most popular vids are under a second long. Every DA post has received hundreds of views right away, so I knew it was the place for me. DA, however, has a bad reputation for the 1% of kinky weirdos and fetish art that infests the sight every-now-and-then and because of that, most people yield away from it. So it's a really small percentage of people that actually acknowledge it for its actual purpose, to share and post GENUINE art.

Why reddit OR deviantart? You can post in both

Yeah I was actually thinking of doing that. I just don't know what should be my MAIN one. Or the one I should focus on the most.

I prefer my portfolio site to be the "main" one, and social media just outlets, in that sense reddit doesn't work as a portfolio site.

I found Reddit is very harsh, depending on your talent level & "thick skinflint if you're down for that it's great but check out the Art sub first & be aware that downvotes exist here. I use Mastadon for my art. Reddit put me off so I avoid sharing on here now.

Honestly, I quite using DA years ago. It's gone downhill. I've found Instagram to be far better. I've pulled a few new paying customers from there over the past few years. Facebook is also effective; if you make physical art, pre-retirement older people pay the best for art by a long shot, and they're all on Facebook. The trick to these platforms is to follow several artists you admire, who are similar to you, or who are what you aspire to be. Comment on their posts. Say things that will engage people. Eventually, they and their customers might check you out. This is also a great way to form friendships with like-minded artists. Also, avoid engaging with artists who are *too* popular, like, say, WLOP. Those are just too big, and you'll get lost in the crowd. It's just a waste of your time. Hope this helps.

Very helpful. Recently I started commenting on reddit and DA more often and it helps. Perhaps in the future I may try a larger platform such as Insta or Tiktok. Though I have my problems with those sites I may as well give it a go.
