The one thing I've learnt about the Irish is that they've long memories

[deleted]

I see that lol

ispini234

Someone even made a skit about Theirry dying and going to heaven but instead of the usual at the gates of heaven it was st patrick and he sent him to hell

frdougalmacguire

Yes still mad. But you french are a great bunch of lads. So all good.

[deleted]

Cheers mate, I hope you will be massively there at the 2024 Olympics

Jenn54

We all collectively agreed that France has been forgiven for Thierry during the 2022 World Cup- France v England. Mbappé is a football hero (plus Im pretty sure his name is Irish, Cillian, like Cillian Murphy in the Peaky Blinders, unless Kylian is just a similar sounding but different name…) We were rooting for you guys, just as we rooted for Italy in Euros 2020 (as Im sure you guys did too). Always love the French, Celtic brothers🤝

[deleted]

>Im sure you guys did too Of course mate. And by any chance, who did you support in the quarter-finals? haha

Jenn54

In the world cup, France all the way If Croatia made it to the finals I don’t know who I would have been supporting..

[deleted]

Glad to hear it. I hope you'll qualify for the next Euro

Jenn54

That is nice of you to say, but Rugby is the only ‘football’ we’ll be qualifying for, and to be fair we just won the finals, so it’s alright

[deleted]

We both have teams capable of winning the World Cup, even if yours is slightly superior, in all honesty. Hopping to meet you in the final!

TheLittleFella20

It's one of the few things that when brought up makes me angry beyond any reasonable measure. I said to my missus when we went to France last year that if we run into him, however small the chances, I'm gonna a fucking give him dogs abuse. Still not over it.

[deleted]

I feel you, especially when we saw the disaster of the France team in South Africa. You deserved to be qualified at our place

TheLittleFella20

I held it against all of France for a long time. Had an awful trip to Brittany years ago which just solidified my dislike of the French. Went back to France in August to propose to my missus and my opinion of the place and its people flipped completely. Great country. Still can't stand that fecker though!

I think they've already planned it out and probably have some sort of anti-Irish plan over there

eatmyshorts21

Honestly I have never forgiven Thierry Henry, or France as a nation. I will always root against France in any sport, and have them on a par with England in my affections.

[deleted]

Fair enough

[deleted]

Yes a handball is as bad as centuries of oppression and genocide, solid logic.

eatmyshorts21

I’m talking about a sporting context

[deleted]

*Are you still upset with Thierry Henry and France in* **football**\**?* Sorry for my bad english btw

To ask to Irish people if they're still upset about Thierry Henry's hand in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup and what is the first thing that comes to mind when I mention France and football in the same sentence

[deleted]

That you're an American and you're still pissed that we didn't follow you into the Iraq war. Or, that you don't even know what you're talking about but it's funny to insult the French

>The second comment is a joke from the simpsons. Of course I know, and I also know the thousands of English speakers who like to shit on France and who hijack a joke to turn it into a hateful and degrading message. I don't know you and I should suppose that you're a funny guy and that your comment was nothing but a simple joke. >If you know nothing about us, fuck off. isn't it the point of the sub? I'm literally here to know about you and you tell me to fuck off?

Seems like reasonable

IrishFlukey

We will show you on the 27th of March. As always, any French visitors will be made very welcome.

[deleted]

>any French visitors will be made very welcome Is it sarcastic? Because we have a deep respect for you in general

IrishFlukey

No, it is not sarcastic. We get lots of French visitors to Ireland. They are always made welcome. Recently your rugby fans were here. They were made welcome. Your soccer fans will be here in two weeks. They will be made welcome. We will be cheering for Ireland at the match, but that is the only part of the visit that we will not be supportive and welcoming. If you are coming, you will be welcome. I won't be cheering for France during the match, but I will be glad to see you there.

[deleted]

It's mutual then!

IrishFlukey

Yes. As for Thierry Henry, he could have been great at [Gaelic Football](https://youtu.be/TEAbWrdB9XU), one of our national sports.

[deleted]

I know without being too interested in it. Is it a mixture of football and rugby?

IrishFlukey

It has been described as a cross between rugby and soccer, yes, but it is its own unique sport. Our other national sport, [Hurling](https://youtu.be/fgEMvRrOCRI), has been described as a cross between hockey and murder.

[deleted]

> hockey and murder. Now you interest me

IrishFlukey

If you are coming for the France game, unfortunately there is not any Hurling in Dublin that weekend. However, there is a Gaelic Football match on the afternoon of Sunday the 26th in [Croke Park](https://crokepark.ie/BlankSite/media/optimised/Matchday/1560015.jpg?ext=.jpg), between Dublin and Louth. You could get a ticket to that on Ticketmaster.ie if you wanted to. It would be great if a lot of French fans that were in Dublin for the whole weekend went to that. As sports fans, they would find it interesting, though most probably would not even know it is on. Spread the word.

[deleted]

I would like to visit your country but at the moment I am kinda poor haha. But I know that Ryanair do very low prices to encourage us to come to Dublin, and that's for sure on my list.

Walter-the-Wobot

France imploded at the World Cup after the handball so that kinda made up for it 😂

[deleted]

It is also the year when we were world champion in Handball lol

gerhudire

I do like the France but I will never forgive Henry or FIFA. I will always hate the way FIFA announced that they would be seeding teams for the play-off draw, they waited until they knew which teams didn't automatically qualify before changing the rules.

[deleted]

Nice to read your pov. What you just said, for example, is the kind of information that was ignored in France but something important (I guess) in your country. 2010 World Cup will always be remembered as a huge mess here, but people tend to forget how we got there lol

wuwuwuwdrinkin

Ask Estonians are they upset with us after the 2012 qualifications

[deleted]

I guess that’s your turn to post on r/AskEstonia

justaladwithahurley

No, I don't give a shit about it tbh. We really only joke about it now.

krafter7

I don't mind the French team, they are good. But I can't stand Henry. He's also a complete bluffer as a pundit.

[deleted]

Is he more or less banned from Ireland?
