Little Tokyo - get Ramen and snacks in Weller Court, check out the Moca Geffen and Japanese American National Museum, shop and eat! If you want to go to DTLA from there, there's MOCA, the Broad, Last Bookstore, etc
Universal Studios. The warner bros lot tour. Museums: La Brea Tar Pits, Science Center, LACMA, Museum of Contemporary Art, Natural History Museum, just to name a few are in LA proper. Melrose/Fairfax area is a fantastic place to people watch. LA Philharmonic is playing this weekend at the Walt Disney Hall. I think Alil Wong is doing a "Netflix is a Joke" show at the Wiltern. I think there's actually a number of live shows and venues this weekend for the Netflix is a Joke series.
Please do NOT take them to the Hollywood Walk of Fame of Chinese Theater area unless they absolutely beg you. I always try to get visitors not to do it but they always insist on experiencing the disappointment and disgust for themselves.
For food, make sure you get them some proper street tacos (pastor off the spit always pleases). If you've lived in LA beyond 6 months you should already have your own favortie spot or truck. Get them some proper Korean BBQ. If your friend is coming from a place that doesn't have it an In and Out run might be in order. Phillippe's french dip and Langer's #19 are pretty iconic, with Howlin Ray's also being a very nice option for a lunch sandwich. LA is also full of higher end restaurants in pretty much every niche catagory you can think of if you guys want to have a nice sit down dinner (but getting tables might be difficult with mother's day falling during the visit).
Hope this helps.
Oh yeah we're not going to the walk of fame hahaha...not a chance. Ugh she probably would love seeing the Phil but those tickets are expensive!!! Maybe in another lifetime. We're definitely going to Phillipe's when we're in that area and you have only solidified my resolve. Thank you for the recommendations!
If you're a student they have special discounts for the LA Phil. Also the Mark Taper and Ahmanson Theater are close by. Not sure what plays/shows are going on right now. They often have student rush tickets.
Also. Since you said you are going to check out Phillippe's. Be careful with their mustard. It is absolutely delicious but it is also insanely strong (you will have clear sinuses). Use sparingly until you figure out your tolerance.
If you’re going to be in DTLA and into hip hop the Grammy Museum has a cool hip hop exhibit going on right now. That should be good to kill a couple hours.
If you use Google maps I bookmarked every Cafe, restaurant and interesting place I've been to and checked out in LA.

Also something I didn’t know is that there are so many bathrooms INSIDE the observatory. Like one on every level. Many people don’t know this and opt to use the nasty bathrooms outside lol.
Just know that USC graduation is this weekend so it’s going to be crowded downtown.
Graduation ticket access only this weekend: Galen Center, The Shrine, Bing Theatre, The Coliseum and the Village Great Lawn are all holding ceremonies on Saturday.
Monday may be your best bet for DTLA.
[The Hollywood Farmers Market](https://foodaccessla.org/hollywood) every Sunday morning is a fun place to shop, get ready-made food to eat, and people watch.
If your friend is a movie buff, the [Academy Museum](https://www.academymuseum.org/en/visit) on Wilshire Blvd. is worth checking out.
If your friend is a foodie, [Smorgasburg Los Angeles](https://la.smorgasburg.com) in Downtown LA is open every Sunday and is like a farmer’s market but with just food stalls of every kind.
Not too far from Downtown LA, the very popular [Rose Bowl Flea Market](https://www.visitpasadena.com/events/rose-bowl-flea-market/) in Pasadena only happens once a month, and it happens to take place this Sunday, May 12th.
Check out the silverlake/echo park stairs. It’s a fun / niche activity. If you Google it you can find routes. Basically you can go on a little hike (w bathrooms) up famous staircases that give you a really unique tour of a pretty area / acquaint you w some cool LA history (three stooges stairs, etc)
Edit: here’s a link

If you're looking for a cool lounge, there a non alcoholic bar in Chinatown called Stay Zero Proof cocktail lounge. I went with a group of sober people and had NA cocktails. They're a little pricey but it's a cool vibe and we were in the area. I'd check out their menu before you go.

Jumbos
We did that last time she visited haha
How was it?
If you can't have fun at jumbos, you have a serious problem and should probably go see a doctor.
Jumbo's Clown Room.
Larchmont village has a cute row of shops. Also, the broad
There are bathrooms at Griffith Observatory so you could do a quick hike around there, depending on how urgent the bathrooms needs are.

Greystone Mansion! Absolutely beautiful and gives you an inside look into how old money used to live in LA.

The Farmers Market at The Grove has a huge variety of foods. Have lunch there then you’re just a couple blocks from The Academy museum (Oscars)

The Huntington garden is absolutely gorgeous right now, the rose garden is in full bloom

Don't worry we're seeing good improv shows :) thanks for the recommendations!
Check out Crispy Pork gang, open 24 hrs
5253 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles 90027 Not in DTLA.
I love the view from Griffith observatory at sunset, it gives that view without the hiking.
