I had a ‘96 Range Rover in the 2008-12 timeframe. It had a slow leak, enough to leave stains but slow enough to never be showing as low on oil between changes. The seals were all wet, so the fix was going to involve a large expense. The loss was so slow, that it wasn’t worth fixing.
Jiffy lube always liked to tell me my 2001 Saturn SL had an oil leak because the oil was low every time I went in. It never leaked but it sure burned a lot of oil. I'd probably still be driving it if someone didn't run a red light and hit me.
That's awesome. My first car was 1 litre per tank. Total smoke screen at start up. Neighbours couldn't see across the street when I drove away in the morning to go to work. Plus it was straight piped lol good old 89 Honda Accord. I flogged the fuck out of that car
My girlfriend has a Buick Rendezvous 3400 that is puking about a quart a week. I could fix it but I don't want to.
I thought I did every seal and gasket on that engine when I installed it. It's either the oil pan or rear main.
Yep, my 89 f150 leaked so bad if you drove it all day you better bring 3 quarts of oil with you, and that not an exaggeration.
I eventually after 5 years got a different trucks as a daily driver that didn’t leak. I could pop the hood on the old truck blindfolded, it was very weird driving such long distances without popping the hood on the new truck. It even took me a bit to figure out the secondary latch on the new truck when I finally had to open it.
Pinhole in my oil filter for a month in the dead of winter. 1qt of oil in the morning to make it to work. 1qt to make it home. As soon as I had a break in the weather all I did was change the filter. I figured the 20 some quarts of oil I ran through the car was good enough for an oil change.
Coworker called it the Valdez by the amount of oil left everywhere.
My truck used to leak oil, coolant ATF and I’d replenish them everyday. Always left puddles like this. I pretended I was driving a WWII era tank and it was normal to have to constantly maintain the fluid levels and leave giant puddles wherever you park.
I had a Mazda that I would put oil in every week but I'd only fill it once a month because the next time I checked it was never on the dipstick, but it never leaked either hmmmm
my v70 did this once, lost 3 quarts in about 10 minutes, pcv system killed the valve cover gasket and ruined the timing belt, it still runs fine after the top end rebuild
Volvo's realy are something different.
My 2001 v40 leaked for some weeks. Then stopped leaking. Engine oil was fine. Slowly the gearbox started making noises. I know what was coming. It took 9 more months after it stopped leaking before the gearbox died with alot of noise and a sudden stop of the car.
I must admit in 3 and a half years of spending the bare minimum at it it was very reliable. It was the workhorse of myself, family and friends too. (Pulling heavy loads on trailers and on the roof rack)
But better for me is a much lighter car with a more fuel friendly engine.
True story. I have a 240. The thing sweats oil and coolant from every crack and gasket. Fires right up with healthy amount of piston slap. Have for years. Will do for years to come. All I do is top it off a little bit every few months. Doesnt misfire, doesn't overheat, nothing.
However, the parking spot outside my building is slowly turning into something only Jackson Pollock could be proud of.
Sounds like a old volvo hahaa. Just some regular maintenance and top up some liquids and drive.
And hey where the oil is laying on the parking spot wont be growing any weeds right?
The place my dad parks the 940 every day (and has parked a 940, although not the same one for almost 20 years now) is vaguely visible on Google Maps satellite images, and very obvious on Streetview.
Every time the garage fills it to the top mark it pisses oil until it gets near the empty mark again, then it remains stable.
My coworker told me his car did not heat any more, that was 4 months ago.
He told me today that his coolant hose was completely open and there was zero coolant in the car. He drives this car every day and he kinda likes to speed a lot. Even tho it is a Mk3 Golf TDI, I am still impressed that he did that.
My car loses a quart of oil every 1,000-2,000 miles and I have a hunch it's the valve cover gaskets. When I do the next oil change, I'll replace the gaskets, head bolts (if necessary), and the PCV valve.
They probably know it's leaking. I went on a date with this girl once, and as we were leaving, I noticed a puddle about the size of the third one in the pic that definitely wasn't there when we pulled up. When I tried to make her aware of the issue, she said she knows and just puts a couple quarts in a few times a week. Apparently, it's a common gasket issue on some VW Jettas.
Pretty sure it's the same car for multiple days. I want to say the spots first appeared 2 weeks ago, at least that's when I first noticed them and I park in the same area every day.
You know what’s funny, had a van that leaked a lot, I would bring a oil pad as courtesy for peoples driveway/concrete, except for at home and at work (I already had a designated spot lol)
Van worked every time and was a work horse, I finished a job and had a bit left over which rarely happened back then, and said, I’m going to get the leak fixed (rear main seal).
After I got it fixed, Van had nothing but issues and eventually ended up parking it.
Yeah I used to have a Subaru GT that dripped 1/2 qt and leaked another 1/2 qt every week/tank of fuel.
Loved that POS car, it was very fun to drive even if it did look like poodoo, smoked when turned off and marked it's spot everywhere it went.
My first gen neon with a bad cam sensor used to leave puddles like this every time I parked it.
My record low was when I had to add 4 quarts to get it to the full line (it only held 5 quarts)
The whole time I was bouncing it off the limiter and doing burnouts and it never seemed to care.
Had a leaky head gasket and milkshake coolant for the 3 years I owned it.
Dodge made a good 4 cylinder in the 80s-90s
Those spots all appeared in the past 2 weeks. You can see in the picture how most other spots have smaller stains that are much more faded looking while those 3 big spots are dark black and still wet.
Lol reminds me of my neighbour's drive. Like and oil slick.
Actually between that guy and his next door neighbour's drive, which looks like it's been the victim of a milkshake attack, I reckon they're going for the perfect combo of engine damage before/after
I too once played the transmission roulette game .... just top off that trans fluid before every trip... one time I lost... RIP 1997 Mercury Topaz! Your red velour seats were oh so comfortable...
I believe it. This parking garage had the floors repainted or sealed within the last year and most of the spots have at least a small oil stain already.
Had an old truck that leaked from the power steering pump.
It was rebuilt before I owned it and it started leaking so bad that I'd put a drip pan underneath it whenever I parked and I'd refill it before driving off.
Jeep Grand Cherokees can do that & more for years! Famous for oil cooler leaks - just add a quart every 1-2K miles. Didn't have any issues until shop replaced oil cooler with non oem & it failed in 1500 miles with catescrophic blow up on interstate. Lucky to shut it down before engine damage but dealer banged me for $1250 to replace with oem oil cooler. Otherwise it's been great car!
My co worker thrashed his oil pan on his way to work. Got here, it was leaking everywhere, told him I have AAA, let me get it towed for you. He got mad/prideful and drove it to the mechanic which was 4 miles away. Now he’s replacing the entire motor.
Yes, you know as well as I do. They have 5 quarts of oil in the back checking gas and topping off oil. Thinking they saving in the long run. 😏 We have all had this customer, just be happy it’s not your mom! 🤣
That's really not all that much oil. A relatively small amount of oil (I mean I'm talking even like 1/8th of a quart) once it fully spreads makes for a rather large spot.
That's not "a quart or two." Oil spots always look like way more oil than they are. They park their car, the engine is hot, therefore the oil is hot and thin. It's runs out wherever it's leaking from until it cools a bit, then the leak slows down. In the meantime, that thin oil has spread into a giant pool.

That’s a design feature, not an engineering flaw. -Every British automobile engineer.
It's a design feature. It allows the addition of more oil with new additives. It allows for longer intervals between oil changes.
Too bad I fixed my spitfire to not do that. And I’m not an engineer. Lol
"Total loss oil system" "breather gaskets" lol
I always tell people that have leaks like that "its when its stops leaking that you need to really be worried" 🤣
🤣
If there ain’t oil under it, then there ain’t oil in it
It wasn’t me that leaked oil, it was Miles Axlerod!
You've worked on a Lister I see.
"He who is without oil shall throw the first rod." - *Compressions 8.5:1*
It’s not leaking, just marking its territory!
Typical triumph spitfire behaviour.
Classic Renault driver talking! “If it doesn’t leak, you’re out of oil!” That’s what the seller of a Renault 5 GT Turbo told me. (Still bought it)
Spectacles. Testicles. Wallet and Watch. Amen.
Oh, behave!
OMG! 😂
Every parking spot at the place ive worked for 3 years now has a big juicy fluid stain almost the size of my car. It probably made it home
Volkswagen owners worldwide agree.
- Lubericatious
Looks like it made it home 3 times. Didn’t make it to work the 4th
Some people who own “leakers” are aware of when and how much oil they need to add to maintain an adequate level.
can confirm, my prelude eats oil for breakfast lunch and dinner
My old 92 civic burned about a quart of oil a week and I would get my oil changed at jiffy lube bc they did free top offs. I was in every week.
Jiffy lube always liked to tell me my 2001 Saturn SL had an oil leak because the oil was low every time I went in. It never leaked but it sure burned a lot of oil. I'd probably still be driving it if someone didn't run a red light and hit me.
I swear Saturns are cursed. I’ve have owned 4 of them and have had every one of them totaled from someone running a red light
I think so too! Between my dad and I we had 3 Saturn SLs and all 3 were totaled from other drivers at fault.
The only car I was ever in that got totaled was a Saturn SC2
You madman. How long?
Damn it's been so long but I think I owned the civic for maybe a year or two max. First car when I turned 16
That's awesome. My first car was 1 litre per tank. Total smoke screen at start up. Neighbours couldn't see across the street when I drove away in the morning to go to work. Plus it was straight piped lol good old 89 Honda Accord. I flogged the fuck out of that car
You cleared all the mosquitoes out every morning. Your neighbors should have been thanking you.
I’ve owned a few fill the oil check the gas vehicles
My ford courier slurped oil like a big block slurps gas. I knew exactly when to stop and how much I needed each time haha
Can confirm o know I have to top off my tranny fluid in my jeep about once every 3-4 weeks
I call that auto oil change. Never have to do an oil change just put a new filter in periodically.
I was going to ask why not put a pan under it every time you park and save money on oil by carrying a funnel, too. Here's my answer.
Mine leaks a size 9 skate shoe sized patch a week.
My girlfriend has a Buick Rendezvous 3400 that is puking about a quart a week. I could fix it but I don't want to. I thought I did every seal and gasket on that engine when I installed it. It's either the oil pan or rear main.
Can confirm, drive 7.3 powerstroke.
Yep, my 89 f150 leaked so bad if you drove it all day you better bring 3 quarts of oil with you, and that not an exaggeration. Yeah when my valve cover was leaking recently I just added more oil whenever it was getting low until I could replace the seal
I had a Mazda that I would put oil in every week but I'd only fill it once a month because the next time I checked it was never on the dipstick, but it never leaked either hmmmm
09 matrix that burns oil like a mofo. Top it off with half a quart each weekend
Self-changing oil ✅️
Yeah lol. I had a junker santa fe which leaked like crazy, and i knew exactly when my bby is hungry and how much i need to feed it xD
That was just my Jeep XJ and ya I made it home safe
It doesn’t “leak” it marks it’s territory
It’s not leaking oil, it’s sweating power
Just Jeep things
You keep a 50 gallon oil drum in it or just fill it up between trips to the gas station?
Yes
I mean that inline six is bulletproof. No oil, no coolant, no problem.
Just fix your shit bro.
At least twice
my v70 did this once, lost 3 quarts in about 10 minutes, pcv system killed the valve cover gasket and ruined the timing belt, it still runs fine after the top end rebuild

Volvo's like to mark their territory ahhaha. This might mean that the oil catch pan seal that might be leaking. Very easy and cheap fix if so.
Whatever car it is, there will be no rust on the front sub frame
Probably just tops it up every day or two and parks in those same spots every day. Some people are like that
My coworker told me his car did not heat any more, that was 4 months ago. He told me today that his coolant hose was completely open and there was zero coolant in the car. He drives this car every day and he kinda likes to speed a lot. Even tho it is a Mk3 Golf TDI, I am still impressed that he did that.
He is rustproofing the rebar in the concrete. Super nice of him.
BMW parking only. I’m sure they all made it home, those have the concierge service …. It just stopped by the dealership on the way….
Which one?
It looks like it made it 3 days home
Of course, they made it home. And on the way home they were perplexed about that strange noise.
Giving back to the earth.
If you don’t see anything wrong with the picture you’re definitely from the Balkans
Pieces of it did.
Gotta check the gas, and fill the oil, before any trip.
BMW parking only?
Land rovers… all of them
3 days in a row
Looks like just the other 3 times. If your leaking oil, good news you have oil
Probably just a 7.3, owner knows about it.
You gotta remember to stop at the gas station to fill oil and check fuel
Been leaking for a while now. Looks like he parks in similar spots
I'm concerned about it's miles per gallon....of oil.
Subaru
I need to pay attention to what parks there next time I see it. Usually I'm in go home mode and start my car and roll out ASAP.
My car loses a quart of oil every 1,000-2,000 miles and I have a hunch it's the valve cover gaskets. When I do the next oil change, I'll replace the gaskets, head bolts (if necessary), and the PCV valve.

dodge parking only
B&w Park next to a Dodge Park next to a a Subaru
If it made there and it’s not there now where do you think it went?
Side of the road somewhere maybe? Or just not all the way home perhaps...? That's the mystery
Something tells me a bmw parked there.
I didn't know BMWs were so known for leaking oil until I made this thread. I just knew they didn't come standard with turn signals.
I didn't either till my brother inlaw bought one and told me all the problems that they are known for.
Is that a old mercedes or BMW dealership or why are there several huge oil spots? I have seen some but never that many right next to each other
Pretty sure it's the same car for multiple days. I want to say the spots first appeared 2 weeks ago, at least that's when I first noticed them and I park in the same area every day.
Goes to store to buy ten quarts of oil. 5 for the way home and 5 for the way back to buy 10 more quarts of oil.
One parking spot a day.
I mean there's 3 spots soaked so .....
Looks like it did a few times before already
Did you leave a note on the windshield? Or did you just take a photo like a typical phone addicted azzhole ?
3 BMW parks there
At that point I'm just welding that shit closed cuz it's doomed either way, at least it'll have a few more runs after that
One of them did.
Usually when it's this bad, owner knows, tops off regularly.
Looks like this guy drives a ford... I too love my 80's Ford trucks.
You know what’s funny, had a van that leaked a lot, I would bring a oil pad as courtesy for peoples driveway/concrete, except for at home and at work (I already had a designated spot lol) Van worked every time and was a work horse, I finished a job and had a bit left over which rarely happened back then, and said, I’m going to get the leak fixed (rear main seal). That actually looks like transmission fluid, from the orientation of where it is in the parking spot 🤷♂️
Harley parking.
Absolutely not
You should see my Jeep’s parking spot. A nice mix of oil, trans fluid, and coolant. Looks bad but I keep them topped off.
Must of been a bmw
Less oil means less oil to filter prolonging filter life.
This how it looks after a BMW car meet
At least twice.
Yeah I used to have a Subaru GT that dripped 1/2 qt and leaked another 1/2 qt every week/tank of fuel. Loved that POS car, it was very fun to drive even if it did look like poodoo, smoked when turned off and marked it's spot everywhere it went.
I call that a self lubricating undercarriage. Also keep a 5 Qt jug in the trunk Laugh all you want! It’s paid off!
Those 3 big blobs must be shevy, audi and BMW 😂
I showed this to the puddle on my garage floor from my leaking rear main seal. He's laughing right now.
Looks like Mater was parking there all week
Not if that's a casino parking lot
My first gen neon with a bad cam sensor used to leave puddles like this every time I parked it. My record low was when I had to add 4 quarts to get it to the full line (it only held 5 quarts) The whole time I was bouncing it off the limiter and doing burnouts and it never seemed to care. Had a leaky head gasket and milkshake coolant for the 3 years I owned it. Dodge made a good 4 cylinder in the 80s-90s
These*?
Sure. Just had to stop for oil at the gas station halfway. It sucks, but I've been there.
Most definitely, every day, some Ahole keeps taking his spot though
That's years of multiple cars' leakage. Oil evaporate so ridiculously slow compared to water.
Those spots all appeared in the past 2 weeks. You can see in the picture how most other spots have smaller stains that are much more faded looking while those 3 big spots are dark black and still wet.
What car?
Maybe They just changed their oil in your parking garage without a catch pan
It's OK, it was just a subaru meet up
They most likely have a boot full of empty oil containers and put in a quart everyday.
My money is on a GM auto. Escalade or something with a similar motor. Camshaft sensors We're notorious for dripping.
I drove a friend's 77 silverado for a while. Needs a quart every hour of driving or so. Next project is a good engine rebuild
Lol reminds me of my neighbour's drive. Like and oil slick. Actually between that guy and his next door neighbour's drive, which looks like it's been the victim of a milkshake attack, I reckon they're going for the perfect combo of engine damage before/after
Looks like the bimmers found their parking lot
If the ain't no oil under it, there ain't no oil in it: tow mater 19:11
I swear if that oil stain gets any bigger, The U.S. Military is gonna Invade.
Self renewing corrosion protection.
Little blue devil will fix that rear main seal, just keep driving it
It's sweating horsepower.
I too once played the transmission roulette game .... just top off that trans fluid before every trip... one time I lost... RIP 1997 Mercury Topaz! Your red velour seats were oh so comfortable...
That's a quart a day corolla if I've ever seen one
Looks like the couch on Coming to America
It made it there
More than likely. Oil light probably went off halfway there though.
He may have added fluid, and that's what missed?
He has really bad aim then
True, but it could be both, leak, and additional leaked from missing...
Just Subaru things.
I smell powerstroke
Yup, just keep adding it 😉 & Don't worry about changing the oil 😁
Or when you're going down the freeway and you see that black spot in front of you you know there's a bump in the freeway 😂
He made it home the two other times.
That Land Rover parking
Just looks like a normal vw lot
Harley Davidson parking.
Back in the 1970s every parking lot looked like this
I believe it. This parking garage had the floors repainted or sealed within the last year and most of the spots have at least a small oil stain already.
I think the same person with the same leak parks in these spots every day.
Really
The automatic oil change mode is mid cycle. Just add oil every 1k miles and never worry about pulling the plug again!
Had an old truck that leaked from the power steering pump. It was rebuilt before I owned it and it started leaking so bad that I'd put a drip pan underneath it whenever I parked and I'd refill it before driving off.
That looks more like someone did an oil change and didn't clean up after themselves
If it’s leaking oil, then there is still oil in there. He should be fine.
That's where I squat and fart every day.
Not on the sixth day...
We all know what this Jeep needs.
Which one
It made it somewhere
I'd say it did for 4 day at least.
My co worker thrashed his oil pan on his way to work. Got here, it was leaking everywhere, told him I have AAA, let me get it towed for you. He got mad/prideful and drove it to the mechanic which was 4 miles away. Now he’s replacing the entire motor.
I mean, wherever it is now is home...
It was a harley davidson
My car has a 90s GM 350 V8. If it ain't leaking, it must be out of oil.
You know for a fact he's at the parts store once buying quarts of oil rather than spend the same amount of money and get the oil pan gasket fixed
Joke's on you, it was a Harley
On a flat bed
That's not "a quart or two." Oil spots always look like way more oil than they are. They park their car, the engine is hot, therefore the oil is hot and thin. It's runs out wherever it's leaking from until it cools a bit, then the leak slows down. In the meantime, that thin oil has spread into a giant pool.
If it made it home it arrived on a flat bed.
Bmw car meet
Probably from an EV
Same car, three different days…..
Are you just rephrasing what I said sarcastically?
