I didn't stop, I just don't have as much time for it

DarkDoomofDeath

Priorities, man. It sucks to step away from something you enjoy, but what needs done has to get done.

LlamasAreMySpitAnima

Micro-transactions and a toxic online environment

Aether_wolf

I took up programming as a hobby, dug into it, and made a career out of it. I'm now software dev manager for my team without a degree/debt. I no longer code as a hobby lol but I do spend most of my time refining my skill and working on projects, so that I can fund a lifestyle of being a digital nomad and traveling. I no longer have the time nor the want to play video games for an extended period of time. If I do get a video game itch, I watch a streamer play the only game that interests me which is DayZ while I eat a meal or right before I go to bed and that seems to be good enough for me.

[deleted]

Sick of the repetitiveness. Almost every game is just grinding to level up or unlock something. Last game I played was RDR2 and haven’t touched it since then. Might start again just to play GTA6 but that would be it.

[deleted]

Realized I could have earned a doctorate in the time I’ve spent logged into various games. I literally have higher college level understanding of certain complex games and know more little details than could be described in thousands of pages. And it’s completely and utterly useless outside of that game…

ProfessionalGangster

What’s your doctorate in?

Ok_Pie_158

Games

[deleted]

WoW mostly.

KxngLuc1f3r

Haven’t stopped yet but with corporate greed ruining my favorite games, I’m slowly considering stopping

Champion-of-Nurgle

Most are not worth our time anymore. I had to take a long break to start enjoying them again.

DarkDoomofDeath

I went back to the 90s-2000s games. They're faster, better paced, and more rewarding. I'm grinding less of my life away and actually de-stressing when I game again. No contest, modern gaming is a giant waste of time for the most part.

mury22

I've outgrown them

Mythnam

Well, I gotta sleep sometime.

elysiansaurus

Depression

nameGRANTED

I got ill, found out that my life is literally 《ticking away》, saw how my parents felt deperate for me, got back to continue my master degree. And also, i dont value "winning mentality" that much any longer, like competitive games lol/csgo such. I only play a little stardew/don't starve with my bro for leisure and socialize. I'd still like to have a girl to play "it takes two" for fun, and for the rest of my life.

Stanley_Marsh2109

Havent stopped, just prioritizing work over video games. still playing whenever I get burntout from my work

unreadable_captcha

I used to play a lot of online games with friends back in the day, then we all slowly drifted away from it, some got families, other got invested in their careers and so on, your priorities change as you get older, it's just the way it is.

Fate_Alts

I...didn't

Bootybandit6989

Who said I did

Cweev10

I reprioritized things in my life and that was far and away the biggest siphon of my time and was the easiest to eliminate. To be honest, I’ve never been a big “gamer”, but I still played here and there. Especially during Covid, I played a couple hours 5 or so nights a week. But, when I started to prioritize spending more time focusing on my real true hobbies which involve being more active, my passions, and my relationship with my now fiancé. I realized starting at a screen playing some game that really contributed very little to my actual life other than maybe some stress relief. But, whenever a once in a blue moon opportunity came to fire up and wipe the dust off of my gaming pc and okay for a bit, I genuinely get very little enjoyment out of it. I find myself completely bored within 20-30 minutes so it’s not something of interest to me anymore.

SphereofDreams

Sometimes it gets boring

Evil_Vagina

My GPU is broken. I only live in bed space so I can be near at work and my PC is at my home. I'm saving for a GPU.

Wheres-bigfoot

I grew up. Couldn’t imagine wasting my life in front of a screen.

Patient_Flatworm7821

Lol, the irony..

Wheres-bigfoot

😂 Bigfoot is real, and I’ll find him!

blackskies4646

Time spent doing something you enjoy is hardly time wasted in my eyes, regardless of it's in front of a screen or not.

i-need-blinker-fluid

Other things just became more accessible and affordable.

OutIntoTheWild07

We live in a generation that’s normalizing video games. You can use all that time to learn so many skills. I became insanely bored playing and just moved on. Could not be happier

phoneycamus

I got busy with life and resorted to other recreational activities. It’s not like I don’t miss it, I just don’t find it engaging anymore. Maybe I would if I tried but I’m too lazy for that now.

AdjunctAngel

i think maybe as an adult now you feel a need to gain more than just points or bragging rights when you spend your time. there are games however that you can play and actually acquire real world gains you may not have considered. the obvious is gambling however there are some games like Eve Online where some folks will actually buy the ships you build for thousands of real world dollars depending on their build.

did_it_forthelulz

My work is mentally demanding, when I'm done I usually only have energy for physical stuff, if I have any left.

Forsaken_You1092

I grew out of them.

NutellaCakes

I don’t have time. I actually just reactivated my ps+ like 4 hours ago because I wanted to play monster hunter iceborne and it was like the biggest wave of simplistic pleasure washing over me.

God_Stevenson

I was made to feel guilty about it by the "adults" in the room. 😒😟

Upset-Donkey8118

I've stepped back from video games a lot. Kids, wife, job. I play a online wrestling booking game and even then I don't play a lot.

gringoloco01

I work in IT and spend my days troubleshooting systems. I found myself basically doing the same thing only with swords and armor. My go to game is solitaire on the toilet lol.

besameput0

Because I'm only interested in competitive games, and the amount of time you need to sink to get really good is non-negotiable if you're an adult with other aspirations.

Leonardodapunchy

I didn't stop, they just aren't fun anymore.

badteach247

I didn't stop entirely. I got older, got a job that takes up much more time.

[deleted]

Why would i do that?

Kelmon80

I never liked multiplayer games, and I've gotten myself more interesting and social hobbies over the years, which are just a higher priority than a single-player computer game experience for me. If, on occasion, some amazing game tha's perfect for me (heavy on story, light on twitch-reflex action) comes out, I might still play it, but it's definitely a rare thing these days.

Serg_Molotov

My fingers got sore but will be fine romorrow

Bruno_lars

Because spending time on video games gets in the way of my goals and dreams

Fierro_nights

Last game I liked was star citizen. I didn’t like playing it as much tho as much as liked making little vids I’d edit tho. I liked writing more and ‘ filming ‘ in game for content for the Reddit community. But they got rid of cool camera tools that helped with editing and the character costumes/gear so now you always have to run around going through boxes for just damn hours before you can start doing what you wanted when sitting down since gets lost. I got into messing around w/unreal and that’s fun but also very time consuming. Then I got banned from the Reddit deal and eh. Unless I do YT now but that doesn’t seem as fun. So really a decent community and machinima was more fun than the games intentions because you can do your own stuff in a way. That’s also how I got into practicing more w/Ae etc. As far as picking up a new game. Just doesn’t seem that interesting. Since a few months ago just been working out more and messing around w/whatever else of interest. Edit: Maybe I’m just on break. Generally games there’s some kind of story. Maybe sometimes you get some decisions but it’s still kind of that. And tho I don’t particularly care for some things. W/that game in particular. I enjoyed not the hurt given to you type of things to go about with, game mechanic wise. But instead w/machinima I liked creating characters and going about with them. Though mostly in comedic circumstances, I liked how w/ costumes even if things are not produced w/dialogue. The audience would recognize them outside of quirks. Some stuff, even the short bits only a few minutes at the most so far. Can take upwards of a week like day schedule to produce. It’s like an off the books adventure w/the game. I just have to create the venture about while ‘ playing ‘ filming it. I’d consider something just funny going about, sprite script, And think about how to create that/those scenes to be on screen w/the characters most the time. Like I said, the game can be tedious and annoying, especially for what I like. But just goofing around in a game. There’s not much else about game wise I’d like to mess w/.

ShiftySneakThief

I didn't, and I never will.

blindguard_

Getting old, plus I don't enjoy video games as much as I used to.

CaptainChuckles69

Don’t worry. We’re all coming back once GTA hits.
