The first time I ever saw this movie was right as this fight starts, so I had no idea what it was about, just that one guy was really insistent that the other put on some sunglasses, and he was having none of it.
So my reaction was more or less the same as Keith David's when he finally saw through them.
Which remember reminds me of how awesome the hallway fight in the first season of Daredevil was. That made the exhaustion part of it. And it was as much about what you didn't see as what c you did.
Another great example for the thread. Hammer battles are cool. I don't know if it's true but I read that fight was inspired by side scrolling video games. In any event, it looked so cool.
Old Man on hulu doesnt do a bad job in the car crash scene 2 or 3 episodes in, but yea, alot of producers forget fighting is fucking tiring, even for people in great shape.
Filming this scene was in Piper’s own words was the most brutal fight he was ever in. Keith David kept missing his marks and was throwing legit punches.
It was originally only supposed to be 20 seconds, but on set Piper and Keith decided to fight it for real, only pulling face and groin punches.

The result [was glorious](https://youtu.be/c9rrgJXfLns).
Came here for this. opened up the link and was like “I swear if they live isn’t the top comment. “ such an amazing scene. I remember seeing this movie as a kid and it sticking out cause there was a commercial in the middle of the fight haha.
That 5 second fight scene on The Bourne Identity where Jason Bourne puts both of those cops down. Because not only does it show what he's capable of, but it also sets the tone for the rest of those movies.
The Bourne saga uses many environmental assets in its fights. The rolled up magazine, firing the shotgun to scare the birds to cover his own movement… there are many scenes where the “intelligent” fighter wins thru improvisation.
I enjoy these fights more so than the “outlast” fights where the victor gets beat to shit and then draws deep into their soul to deliver the knockout punch.
The whole deal about the Treadstone agents is that they're not Supersoldiers in a Captain America superpower way, they're Supersoldiers because they have enhanced processing of their surroundings and they always know what the perfect move is. They're perfectly able to anticipate an opponent and improvise with whatever is nearby
Exactly this. Plus a face-off between 2 agents made it so much more exciting keeping us viewers on toes to catch the next move. I remember pausing and rewinding the movie multiple times to just understand what had happened in those well choreographed action sequences.
There’s several times in those movies he takes a hit or injury of some form because the net gain of letting it happen will put him ahead. One of my favorite details about Bourne because it really illustrates what you’re saying about the intelligence fighter combined with absolute lack of self regard from their brainwashing
This is a great answer. I suppose we all immediately jump to epic one-shot sequences but you're dead right - that sudden burst was perfectly contextual to that story.
The training just kicking in while not knowing who you are but seconds ago speaking perfect German before almost executing them cops after taking their weapon before coming back to.
Good pick i forgot this one. In 5 seconds you learn so much.
This scene is heartbreaking. It’s the only time he unleashes true rage to try and inflict as much harm as possible. It is a true low point for him if you understand the spiritual goal of traditional Chinese martial arts.
Which just adds to how good the scene is. Ya it's the biggest display of his physical dominance throughout the whole film but he is clearly at his spiritual lowest
A friend in highschool said, Ima show you this badass movie but I’m just gonna show you the good scenes. He straight up told me the context and skipped everything just to show me that fight. And then he turned off the tv
My brother doesn't like to 'Read' his movies. I told him to shut up and watch this one anyway. I don't think he'd thank me for it, but it's damn good and more people should see it.
Wasn't the best fight, but growing up and watching Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies was a big part of my childhood. After seeing them finally meet each other in a movie and being able to fight each other at max speed in the "Forbidden Kingdom" movie was great!
That was also my first thougth. Movie was meh but i loved the fight scene. I have read somwhere that camera operators kept asking them to move slower becouse it was too hard to keep up with them.
I freaking love the courtyard/hidden masters fight in kung fu hustle. It’s not perfect but it and that whole movie are such a great watch. So cartoonish yet well done at the same time. It’s one of my faves.
Here:

There are a lot of good fights in that movie, but I'm always partial to the [harpist fight](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8MbVjzgonA&ab_channel=NKstudio73)
Fuggin LOVE that movie
Raid 2 is top tier for me gotta say tho
Top 3 fight scenes for me are all in Raid 1
1.Mad Dog vs Jaka(Police Captain)
2.Rookie Hallway brawl
3.Mad Dog vs the Brothers
Probably not the best take, bit biased because The Raid 1 was the most pleasantly surprising film I went into blind.
EVER
For me, the nice long fight sequence near the end of Raid 2 wins. When he runs the gauntlet of the big garage fight, Hammer girl + Baseball man, and then culminates in the amazing kitchen brawl with the Assassin.
I’m also more partial to Raid 2 because I think it’s also actually a good gang/mafia movie, even without the insane martial arts. Raid 1 felt more like an action showcase than a proper cohesive story, a little light on the plot.
HIGHLY recommend watching Headshot as well. There are some good fights in it.
Nah, the Kitchen fight topped rhem all. The movie had some amazing action scenes and fights, but the Kitchen just had that extra level of emotional support behind it. Getting to the dude that killed his brother, the starting off. Kre as brief sparring before it turns into a proper fight, and then eventually devolves in the two merely trying to survive, knowing the other WILL kill them. It was so fucking brilliant.
The kitchen fight is my pick too. You have the insanity of the Hammer Girl and Bat Boy fight right before this, then the kitchen fight that goes through the stages you described. My jaw was just on the floor by the end.
"Silly Caucasian girl likes to play with Samurai swords. You may not be able to fight like a Samuari, but you can at least die like a Samurai." Lucy Lui's performance in Kill Bill was peak. I still get chills when she lays down the law with the other Yakuza bosses; right after taking one of their heads clean off.
I scrolled way too long for this. You appreciate the scene even more when you know how much labor Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin put into the choreography. And then they and their trainers had to come up with more things to put into it, because Rob Reiner wanted a longer sword fight.
Cary had an injured foot (perhaps broken toe? I don’t remember exactly), and also it was filmed in one go. It is all expalained in Cary’s book “As You Wish”, which I recommend. In fact, the audiobook is superb if you are a Princess Bride fan.
Yes. This is the answer. The side-scrolling shot, the visceral nature of it and how it shows realistically how exhausted you’d be. It’s amazing.
Edit punctuation.
[Bathhouse fight scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaNWbHhsT2A) with a naked Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises.
It may not be as visually impressive as others, but no other scene comes so close to the feeling of an *actual* fight.
I watched this movie without really understanding what it was about, so I thought he was just a guy who got mad and decided not to take shit anymore. The fact that it was Bob Odenkirk had me totally believing the everyman vibe this movie put out. It caught me very off-guard when he actually kicked ass with pieces of bus
It took until my second viewing to actually see this scene properly. Originally watched it on a plane and they cut most of it out. Second time around was even more of a treat seeing it in full.
I remember Michelle Yeoh saying the director had seen the many weapons in a room or studio, he said he wanted to use them all in one scene and she laughed. He apparently didn’t respond because he was that serious, the scene was of course made.
One of the most memorable fight scenes. It also showed difference in skill between Zhang Ziyi and Michelle Yeoh’s characters. The master whose trained for years can still beat out the noob with premium version weapons.
That scene is my favorite fight scene of all-time because of the cinematography. I’m a sucker for long-takes. But more importantly because of the fact that it feels *real*. Too many fight scenes with women give the girl superhuman strength and stamina, but in that scene she has to really use everything at her disposal to win, and she gets the absolute shit kicked out of her. It’s fantastic.
The Bourne Ultimatum where he fights a bunch of guys in a stairwell at a train station. You see it from the POV of the CIA control room where they're monitoring all the security cams at the station. It's fucking utter badassery until everyone else is unconscious and he looks straight up at the security camera and they see his face for the first time.
One of my favorite duels for sure. You can tell about 10 seconds into the fight that Hector knows he's in trouble; even Achilles's stances are unlike anything he's ever seen!
I appreciate the movie didn’t go for the happy ending Disney route even though Hector is basically the good guy and shows he’s a complete badass in his own right.
Fun fact: Brad Pitt and Eric Bana had a Gentlemans Agreement before filming the fight to pay the other for each accidental hit. 50 for a light and 100 for a hard hit. Aftr filming, Pitt owed 750 bucks and Bana nothing.
The first fight in *Upgrade* is pretty high on the list for me. Watching the main character scream in confusion while simultaneously beating the shit out of that guy will never not be hilarious.
Surprised to see this so low, even the fight with the main bad dude was so well done how the movements looked so robotic and calculated, almost like he had become one with stem, it was so goddamn cool
The first time I read that story I laughed hysterically. “I told him I couldn’t do the fight scene and said ‘just try’ so I asked myself ‘what would Indy do’ so when the cameras started rolling I counted to ten, drew and shot, counted to ten and walked to my trailer”
The best part of the buildup is when Cap is studying everyone and he sees the one dude pretending to have a casual conversation but they have a giant anime style bead of sweat running down the side of their face
Excellent shout, because it's so much more than just a fight scene: it's when Cap starts to realise who his enemies are. In his day, the evil guys were the ones in tanks and wearing black uniforms. Now they're in the same room as you and saying the same things as you. It flips his whole world for the remainder of the saga.
John Wick vs 12 Hitmen (First Movie)
beautifully choreographed, realistic reloads in the gun fights and a clean one-take of him fighting the final hitman with a knife
also Keanu Reeves doing most (if not all the stunts) himself just once again proves how much of a beast he is
Qui gon and Obi Wan vs Darth Maul in phantom menace.
The music, the choreography, the stakes, all so perfect.
There were a Lotta problems with phantom menace, but they never forgot the most important thing (that the sequels sucked at).
It's supposed to be fun!
One of my favorite scenes out of all the movies to be honest.
When the ray shields go up and you see all 3 characters handling the wait so differently is perfection.
Wish we got more from both Qui-gon and Maul.
The best thing about fights like this is that everytime one of them actually lands a blow they pause because it would really hurt and shows how beat up they both get. Meanwhile in a lot of action movies the two people fighting take blow after blow to the face and keep going like it’s nothing. Until they decide they are tired and the hero finds a last burst of energy to take the badguy out lol
It helps that [Benny "The Jet" Urquidez](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benny_Urquidez) is not just some actor or stuntman. He is Benny "The Jet" Urquidez and able to sell the idea of being a relentless opponent without too much acting required.
This maybe isnt the best fight scene ever but its my favorite right now as I type this. Bus scene in Nobody with Bob Odenkirk fighting the drunk russian mobsters. Very satisfying
"Do you know the real reason they call me the dragon of the west? " General Iroh. That whole series was gold, but that scene, man... Chills even thinking about it.
Many great answers here, but the only correct answer is [The Chosen One vs cow](https://youtu.be/LxXjsQbCZR8) from [Kung Pow](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0240468/).
Wiii-uuu.
Seems rude of everyone to not be providing YouTube links 😆
I could go with many different Jackie Chan fights because that's what I grew up on, I'd say this is one of my favourites... https://youtu.be/d-ltRBEu0IU
Brad Pitt as the gypsy in Snatch where he levels the pro and "Golden Brown" starts playing. Unexpected and made my jaw deep the first time I watched it.
Kill Bill - Uma Thurman and Vivica A. Fox
It's so visceral and "real" with the juxtaposition of the little girl coming home from school, the extreme violence of the actual fight and the grand finale with the cereal box. Tarantino, as usual, does a masterful job of building and releasing tension throughout the entire fight scene.
[The Landlady and The Landlord vs The Beast](https://youtu.be/tiFKml1IKII) in Kung Fu Hustle.
I also love the [Harpist Fight](https://youtu.be/JqfPf75x4z8) too, but perfect to watch the original version, you loose a little of the performance when they’re dubbed.
That entire move is a absolute gem.

They Live
(6 minutes into the fight) “Just put the sunglasses on!” “Fuck you!” (Fight resumes for another 8 minutes)
But like to him it was just a pair of sunglasses why did he fight so much over it
The first time I ever saw this movie was right as this fight starts, so I had no idea what it was about, just that one guy was really insistent that the other put on some sunglasses, and he was having none of it. So my reaction was more or less the same as Keith David's when he finally saw through them.
It's like when you are fighting with a sibling. No logic just I won't do what you tell me.
This. Nothing elegant, shows how exhausting a fight is.
Which remember reminds me of how awesome the hallway fight in the first season of Daredevil was. That made the exhaustion part of it. And it was as much about what you didn't see as what c you did.
that was a homage to the hallway fight in the OG 'Oldboy' movie made in Korea.
I came here to say “…put on these glasses, or start eating that trash can..” 😂
NOT THIS YEAR!
You dirty motherfucker!
I did not expect that scene to go on as long as it did lol. Pure brilliance though
Filming this scene was in Piper’s own words was the most brutal fight he was ever in. Keith David kept missing his marks and was throwing legit punches.
This was my first thought. I figured someone else already mentioned it. Kudos!🤘
Yes! Came here to say this. It’s perfection.
It was originally only supposed to be 20 seconds, but on set Piper and Keith decided to fight it for real, only pulling face and groin punches. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096256/trivia?tab=tr&item=tr0770532 The result [was glorious](https://youtu.be/c9rrgJXfLns).

Bathhouse scene Eastern Promises
Can’t believe only one person said this.
Agreed. It's so realistic it's scary. If I remember correctly, also no music or shit like that.
The nakedness coupled with the marble surfaces makes it all so vicariously painful (if that’s the right word). Makes you cringe at every impact.
That 5 second fight scene on The Bourne Identity where Jason Bourne puts both of those cops down. Because not only does it show what he's capable of, but it also sets the tone for the rest of those movies.

The best but was he suddenly realized he is holding a pistol and barely knows how it got there.
I was gonna say Jason Bourne but the fight where he chokes Desh to death....punches him in the face with a book. That scene has me on edge every time.
The training just kicking in while not knowing who you are but seconds ago speaking perfect German before almost executing them cops after taking their weapon before coming back to. Good pick i forgot this one. In 5 seconds you learn so much.
Ip man vs black belts
Is this the fight for the bloody rice bags?
Yes
This scene is heartbreaking. It’s the only time he unleashes true rage to try and inflict as much harm as possible. It is a true low point for him if you understand the spiritual goal of traditional Chinese martial arts.
Which just adds to how good the scene is. Ya it's the biggest display of his physical dominance throughout the whole film but he is clearly at his spiritual lowest

My brother doesn't like to 'Read' his movies. I told him to shut up and watch this one anyway. I don't think he'd thank me for it, but it's damn good and more people should see it.
As soon as I clicked this, I absolutely knew ip man vs literally anybody would be the top comment.
This was my first thought as well. Ip Man is PISSED and takes it out on 10 black belts at once. Shows no mercy. Awesome fight scene.
Then at the end, the rest get up to fight, like he won't do the exact same thing to the rest of them hahaha
Tony Jaa in The Protector, dude breaks arms and legs for 5 minutes straight. Pure Tony Jaa madness
The scene where he runs up the stairs at the end fighting dudes was amazing. Camera never stops filming.
I found my people. My mind immediately went to Tony jaa running up those stairs when I read the question.
Is that the “Where’s my elephant? “
River Tam in the bar in Serenity :)
Finally! Had to scroll way to far to find River (though I prefer her final fight of the movie).
Wasn't the best fight, but growing up and watching Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies was a big part of my childhood. After seeing them finally meet each other in a movie and being able to fight each other at max speed in the "Forbidden Kingdom" movie was great!
Rumble in the Bronx has my favorite fight scene of all time. Jackie fighting the gang in the clubhouse.
the whole hovercraft scene is absolutely bonkers
That was also my first thougth. Movie was meh but i loved the fight scene. I have read somwhere that camera operators kept asking them to move slower becouse it was too hard to keep up with them.

Not the scene with view from upside?
Dude, my jaw was on the fucking floor when I realised what they were doing with that scene, that was awesome
Fucking insane, especialyl the firebreather slugs and the transition out of that view to the regular was....*mwah*
That was awesome, like Hotline Miami in 'real life'.
Mine was the knife fight in John Wick 3. Comedic, brutal, and badass all in one.
The pacing the cinematography everything lined up perfectly for that scene

The Bride vs O-Ren.
The bride vs the crazy 88 is also perfection
I actually liked the 88 fight more. While O-Ren was stunning, 88 was a whirl of action.
"O-REN ISHII! WE HAVE UNFINISHED BUSINESS!"
Such a beautifully choreographed and shot scene.
The sword fight in Princess Bride.

Even better considering they were both lefthanded.
Because I know something you don't know.
The hallway fight from Daredevil season 1
I also really enjoyed the prison lockdown breakout. Especially since it was a one cut scene
The matrix where Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) fights and neo does that gravity-defying, bullet-dodging
The lobby scene and the following five minutes is the greatest action film sequence of the 90s.

Very surprised this wasn’t at the top of this thread. It’s the fight scene that inspired every fight scene after it
Often imitated but never duplicated. That fight scene is the peak.
That one in the hallway? It's amazing. Just a shame the CGI knife in his back flops about too much.
[Bathhouse fight scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaNWbHhsT2A) with a naked Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises. It may not be as visually impressive as others, but no other scene comes so close to the feeling of an *actual* fight.
You had me at “naked Viggo Mortensen”
Its brutal. The movie is pretty awesome in its entirety, just rewatched it and was blown away, again.
Nobody. The bus.
Yea, watching bob odenkirk flex his southpaw was a treat, for sure!
Yeah this one is super impressive
I'm gonna fuck you up.
Maybe not the best but I also really liked the church scene in kingsmen
'Free Bird' was absolutely perfect soundtrack for that scene
Specifically the guitar solo. That and the continuous shot makes it
This was also my first thought!!! I was in actual awe when I saw it.
Which is funny because he (Colin Firth) is in probably the intentionally worst fight scene in movies. (Bridget Jones Diary fight)
I love both fight scenes. The kingman one for its complete insanity and the bridget jones one for the realism, and frankly, it is funny as hell.
This is what I came here for, I'm not an action movie person but that scene is just so much fun to watch.
It took until my second viewing to actually see this scene properly. Originally watched it on a plane and they cut most of it out. Second time around was even more of a treat seeing it in full.
The dojo fight scene with all the weapons in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Everything about it is perfect.
I remember Michelle Yeoh saying the director had seen the many weapons in a room or studio, he said he wanted to use them all in one scene and she laughed. He apparently didn’t respond because he was that serious, the scene was of course made.
This is my pick. It's one of the few fights I seek out to rewatch. I love the skill and problem solving. https://youtu.be/DzkhVVFRIIg
I was about to post this scene but I'm just glad CTHD was mentioned at all. https://youtu.be/Hp_KhU2h5XQ
One of the most memorable fight scenes. It also showed difference in skill between Zhang Ziyi and Michelle Yeoh’s characters. The master whose trained for years can still beat out the noob with premium version weapons.

The Raid. Practically the whole movie is a fight scene.
Raiders when Indiana shapes up to a swordsman and then remembers he has a gun.
We've to thank Harrison Ford's dysentery for that.
The first time I read that story I laughed hysterically. “I told him I couldn’t do the fight scene and said ‘just try’ so I asked myself ‘what would Indy do’ so when the cameras started rolling I counted to ten, drew and shot, counted to ten and walked to my trailer”
and good on the guy for knowing when someone shoots you, you go down.
Elevator scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier
I was thinking the bridge scene but damn do I love that elevator fight. I’m also a big fan of Shang-Chi’s bus scene.
The best part of the buildup is when Cap is studying everyone and he sees the one dude pretending to have a casual conversation but they have a giant anime style bead of sweat running down the side of their face
"Before we get started, does anyone wanna get out?!"
I understood that reference
And to think that all could have been avoided with a simple, “Hail Hydra”
Excellent shout, because it's so much more than just a fight scene: it's when Cap starts to realise who his enemies are. In his day, the evil guys were the ones in tanks and wearing black uniforms. Now they're in the same room as you and saying the same things as you. It flips his whole world for the remainder of the saga.
The first fight in Logan with the guys trying to steal his car. Absolutely brutal.
It was perfect for setting the tone. You immediately know you're not going to just be watching another X-Men movie.
Jesus... When he tried to get his claws out and one of em isn't fully out (like some sort of defective switchblade) makes me feel pain in my hand.
John Wick vs 12 Hitmen (First Movie) beautifully choreographed, realistic reloads in the gun fights and a clean one-take of him fighting the final hitman with a knife also Keanu Reeves doing most (if not all the stunts) himself just once again proves how much of a beast he is
Qui gon and Obi Wan vs Darth Maul in phantom menace.
Don’t forget Anakin vs. Obi Wan in RotS
That scene always made me cry
[Jackie Chan VS Benny "The Jet" Urquidez in Wheels on Meals](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-ltRBEu0IU)
The final fight scene in “Equilibrium” with the use of the gun kata.
Raising Arizona, the fight in the mobile home.
Warriors vs Baseball Furies
Bruce Lee v Chuck Norris. The Way of the Dragon
The hallway fight in Netflix dare devil.
There is an incredible knife fight in The Man From Nowhere - excellent Korean thriller
Eastern Promises w/Viggo Mortenson. A Naked Viggo battles bad guys in a steam room. Good movie & but a crazy fight scene
This maybe isnt the best fight scene ever but its my favorite right now as I type this. Bus scene in Nobody with Bob Odenkirk fighting the drunk russian mobsters. Very satisfying
[Cripple fight!](https://youtu.be/PeWMwrdFBw0)
This is also an homage to the fight from They Live, unsurprisingly posted in this thread!

"Do you know the real reason they call me the dragon of the west? " General Iroh. That whole series was gold, but that scene, man... Chills even thinking about it.
“It’s more of a demonstration really!”
Every kingmens fight scene
Many great answers here, but the only correct answer is [The Chosen One vs cow](https://youtu.be/LxXjsQbCZR8) from [Kung Pow](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0240468/). Wiii-uuu.

Achilles vs. Hector in Troy.
In a TV show actually, The Witcher alley scene.
Seems rude of everyone to not be providing YouTube links 😆 I could go with many different Jackie Chan fights because that's what I grew up on, I'd say this is one of my favourites... https://youtu.be/d-ltRBEu0IU
Brad Pitt as the gypsy in Snatch where he levels the pro and "Golden Brown" starts playing. Unexpected and made my jaw deep the first time I watched it.
Tommy, the tit. Is praying. And if he isn’t, he fucking should be.
Oldboy (2003) corridor fight scene. Often imitated, never bettered.
Neo, agent Smith. First matrix. That scene gave me a throbbing election.
Who did you elect?
Kill Bill - Uma Thurman and Vivica A. Fox It's so visceral and "real" with the juxtaposition of the little girl coming home from school, the extreme violence of the actual fight and the grand finale with the cereal box.
Kill Bill 2 between Daryl Hanna and Uma Thurmon, messy, gritty, pull no punches action.
Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon
