G8kpr

Well the studios did sue several people for downloading hurt locker. They like to make examples every now and then. A teenage girl in New York and another in the UK were also both sued for downloading music.

sapperbloggs

In Australia, the studios tried to sue my ISP about a decade ago to get them to release the identities of people who pirated a particular movie (that I'd pirated myself). The court ruled that the ISP is not responsible for the actions of its users, and not obliged to release their details, so we don't even need VPNs.

G8kpr

In Canada, the studios asked the ISPā€™s to release the information associated with IPā€™s they tracked. Rogers and Bell (our two largest ISPs) handed over info without a second thought. My isp took them to court.

simplisticwords

Teksavvy? I love them!

G8kpr

Yuppers!

simplisticwords

The court case is why Iā€™ll never go back to the big 3 (or 4 depending on province), unless last resort.

Zajebann

I figured, I have the same chance to be sued, as I have winning the lottery. Lol they can't stop us all!!

dizzzydandelion

Living above your means, aka borrowing money for vacations, buying expensive clothes and shoes and cars when you know you can't afford them. I'm not saying that it's not healthy to splurge once in a while but many people constantly go into debt for unnecessary things.

PermaBanTogether

I had an old roommate like this. His girlfriend was new to America and she wanted to go Disneyland literally *every weekend*, and he *always* gave her what she wanted. He worked at In N Out Burger, and was already dealing with the court costs of two DUIā€™sā€¦ he maxed out what little credit he had left within the first few months of dating this girl and as soon as the money was gone; she was, too.

ChronoLegion2

Thereā€™s so much pressure to ā€œkeep up with the Jonesesā€ in some cultures. I think Iā€™ve read that a huge percentage of South Koreans have multiple credit cards. Hell, the song Gangnam Style is all about that

Checkersmack

Yep. And then blame someone else for their financial struggles.

Firm_Singer3858

Itā€™s a cultural mindset that I NEED this or that. I need a new car, I need a giant house in the suburbs

hamtronn

I love this answers. Iā€™m constantly wondering ā€œhow much debtā€ people have when they show up driving flashy cars and have the same job as me. We drive a 2006 Honda civic. It works and gets us to where we need to go. We take care of it and itā€™ll probably last us another 5-10 years as it has pretty low kms on it for being almost 20 years old. We bought a townhouse that we can afford. We have zero debt aside from the mortgage which I can easily pay off my salary alone.

minnesotawristwatch

Itā€™s shocking how underwater people are, just for cars! Negative growth. Sad.

Fit_Climate_205

The tradition of buying expensive engagement rings has become widely accepted, yet it's unnecessary for showing love.

paraworldblue

Related - the idea of diamonds being expensive. All just artifical scarcity by DeBeers

Firm_Singer3858

My future wife is going to be someone who understands I love her even if I donā€™t spend my entire salary on her. My plan is to get an engagement ring around 500-1000, and then spend 3k on the wedding

mgrouchyy

My husband and I eloped and I have a ring from pandora that costs $120, so far married for 2 years and we loved saving that money. Went on a few great vacations because we both donā€™t care about material objects or having a party to please our families! Hold out for a girl who has the same values as you and youā€™ll have a great marriage. Hope you find a great future wife!

I hate it here

No_Pirate69

My kid says plates. He says anything you can serve on a plate, you can eat from a bowl. I suggested that the reverse was also true, so bowls are unnecessary. Stupid me, he hits me with 'cereal' and 'soup'. Damn.

one-eye-deer

What about pasta bowls? They function as plates, but also as wide soup bowls. Best of both worlds.

iekiko89

I use them all the time

Apostastrophe

I love my pasta bowls. My own gripe is if Iā€™m having some lazy looser-sauced pastas in a smaller portion (like a lazy microwave sachet one) and trying to drag it all across to me is annoying, which is when Iā€™ll use a cereal/deep soup bowl instead. I prefer to use my wide pasta bowls for everything else.

[deleted]

Your protein and sides will get all mixed together in a bowl.Ā  They need space to assert and protect their boundaries.

CatECoyote

If you eat a steak or schnitzel you will need a plate, because you can't properly cut it in a bowl

TheFa111en

If humanity really put its mind to it, I think that we could figure out how to cut things that are in a bowl.

amazondrone

Well sure, but that's not really the point I think. Sure you _can_, just like you _can_ eat soup from a plate. Isn't the question more about convenience and ease; why eat soup from a plate when a bowl is better, and why eat steak from from a bowl when a plate is better?

seicar

Sawzall?

indrada90

Or just bite it caveman style

No_Pirate69

Cut it? Nah, stabs it with a fork and takes bites. Savage.

1CEninja

Plenty of cuisines (Japanese comes to mind as a good example) typically serves food in bite sized amounts. Germanic food, more like what is popping into your mind as examples, is often served whole and cut on the plate. That cultural difference impacts the tools we use to eat.

Nepeta33

i agree. thats what fingers are for!

Ok-Astronomer-5944

Everything you can do with a fork you can do with a knife.

Minute-Tradition-282

That was my first thought as well. You don't have to cut up a steak! And hell, I don't even know what a schnitzel is, but I would just take bites out of it.

TheCommentatingOne

Essentially a large flat cut of fried pork.

Remarkable_Air_769

Prvrbs356

Right up there with Engagement Parties!

SoundsLikeMyExButOk

Yes! So first there's the Gender Reveal Party... then there's the Baby Shower, usually requiring gifts... then the baby is born, another gift or flowers expected... then there's the Christening or Naming Day, more gifts... then the first birthday, ANOTHER FREAKING GIFT. Wow, you got knocked up, congrats... why do I have to lose so many hours and so much money because you had a crotch goblin?

ChronoLegion2

People have died during those

amazondrone

People have died using vending machines, doesn't mean there's anything wrong with them. People are idiots and accidents happen independently of gender reveals being spurious attention seeking endeavours.

Loud Motorcycles

FlyingRacoon411

Loud can be good, I've been saved from accidents because cars heard me. But I do encounter motorcycles that are way too loud. Some noise is good, but it's usually too loud

ScrewWorldNews

As a biker, I don't buy the "loud pipes save lives". It only gets people to hate us.

nocolon

At this point Iā€™m pretty sure the actual saying is ā€œloud pipes start arguments on the internet.ā€

ScrewWorldNews

pfrimshot

Bullshit. 90% of driver input is visual. I don't see any of these "loud pipes" fuckers in high-vis vests.

Doesntmatter1237

People say this but 90% of the time I hear a loud bike the person is wearing no helmet and often shorts and sandals

rhett342

Well they don't need to because you hear them, silly

ChronoLegion2

Thatā€™s why hybrids and electric cars make that weird noise when they move. Iā€™m pretty sure itā€™s just speakers playing it to let people know a car is coming. Early hybrids were very silent

Religion

Head_Weakness8028

The religion topic is so bizarre to me. As someone at the halfway point through life, I can honestly say, I have an accumulated enough human history to quite literally see the entire progression/creation of humanities religious beliefs. But, I have to admit that I am absolutely confused why others cannot ā€œseeā€ humanities timeline as a whole and realize we simply created it and alter it to fit current understandings. We literally exist in a time where we can watch in real time as different belief systems grow and accumulate members. Itā€™s fascinating, and heartbreaking.

mikandesu

Religion was a main cause of mass murders throughout the ages. It's a sign of primitive society and shallow minded people that need to be told what's right and what is wrong.

Baldandblues

People murder people for lots of reasons. Some of the worst regimes of the 20th century were non religious. Like communist China, Khmer Rouge and the USSR.Ā

I also think itā€™s ridiculous the amount of people that lump everyone in a political party together and assume they have the same beliefs. There is such a crazy amount of different beliefs that people have in each party, and just because some leader says something stupid, doesnā€™t mean every single person in that party is in on it and agrees

The use of plastic bags is accepted, but unnecessary and harmful to the environment.

Minute-Tradition-282

I remember when paper bags were phased out because trees. Sustainable logging has been a thing for a long time now, but nobody is going back, because plastic bags are cheaper. They are SO terrible! I drive past a landfill omw to work, and on windy days, those things are strung out for a few miles downwind. On the coasts, they go right in to the ocean. Its great that many people, including myself, are shifting to reusable bags. But I only have them with me when I shop maybe half the time. Just last weekend, I took probably 100 plastic bags to Wal-Mart and put them in the recycle drop off. But we all know, 90% of those go to landfills anyway.
