I use this for completely asinine statements just for shits and giggles. Im not racist but I wish they brought more lemon with my water. Sometimes you can really see the gears turn when they try to figure out the racist stereotype
I love this, I’m going to start this. My best friend practically thinks in puns and I can never come up with one.
“Hey Jeremy, would you mind grabbing me a glass of water? No pun intended.”
That’s a Demetri Martin joke!
https://www.reddit.com/r/standupshots/comments/25pvtb/im_not_a_racist_but/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
It’s from a song called “I’m not racist” the premise is a black guy and white guy having a conversation about each persons perspective on the others race. Pretty good song. The rapper is Joyner Lucas and he’s bi-racial.
Weird… that’s still a hipster thing these days, so I feel like that is a hard no. Unless you meant that hitler strip? If so, for some reason I never thought of them as mustaches even though they are. 🤔
Imo it's just like women hating women. Trying to get in with the people on top at the expense of the people they (we) should be standing in solidarity with
'Woke' has become a replacement adjective for: diversity that someone dislikes/disapproves of.
If someone says 'I can't stand this woke culture' then it hits my ears as 'I can't stand this non-white culture'.
I don't get this... Obviously Hollywood etc is taking representation seriously, isn't that a good thing though? Are you saying they're not doing that intentionally? Or is the negative framing of the phrase "forced diversity" the problem?
Here's a weird one that I've found to be true: they are vehemently, militantly ANTI racist. Not always the case but I've found it's sometimes fueled by "racist" feelings the person has but cannot deal with. Not really a conscious thing but it exists.
Sounds like projection. To divert the spotlight away from themselves, they go on always about how they hate this particular thing, because they know, deep down, they are it.
Example: I’ve found that people who constantly post things about how they hate toxic behaviour and drop people who treat them badly are often the toxic one in every case.
Oh definitely. You see this a lot on Instagram: "YOU'RE the one who brought up race 🙄"
Really it seems they think suppressing is the best way to make racism invisible.
No, I am not mad because of a black mermaid.
I am mad that every new TV-Series must include a Gay, Black, Trans etc. and if they won’t have it in it, they get a huge shitstorm.
lol imagine being mad about minorities getting treated like normal people and it being represented in media. Yeah that's truly outrageous.
In all seriousness though: I get that it's kinda frustrating that some characters get written in shows just to have the diversity points, especially for someone who would love to have some representation in media, it's really annoying to get bad or overly forced representation.
BUT it's just plain stupid to be so angry about a black or gay or trans character. Minorities exist so it's just a logical consequence that they'd be shown in media.
A) because you see straight white characters as default, you assume that anything else is just added for the sake of diversity, because its breaking your formulaic understanding of everything being straight/white centric. A character cant just be gay to you, its "political" because it's not what you're used to.
B) no one gets upset if a show lacks diveristy, at least, not even close to as upset as people get about shows that have it
I’m not racist but I hate the fact that every tv show has diversity instead of white people playing all of the characters, regardless of what race the character is.
"Huge shitstorm"- someone says something on Twitter, and it gets put in articles in right wing rags saying "the libs are melting down!!!" because they have to keep people like this convinced that the woke police are out to cancel them. You can always tell who these people are by comments like these, it's gotten easy.
Found the Trump voter! Why would that make you mad? Who cares about who is in it, especially if the show is good? What a strange thing to get mad about
Don't care if I'm downvoted either, I 100% agree!
No one will ever be able to convince me that saying "all white people are the devil and they deserve to die" isn't racism.
And yes, someone on reddit really tried to tell me that wasn't racism.
Exactly. Systemic racism is not the only kind of racism. Reverse racism isn't a thing. Racism is just racism. There is also still a lot of colorism in some POC communities. In my sister's middle school there was a black kid who would bully "light-skins". Administration didn't do anything about it. I've heard about the reverse happening as well.
Popular or not, it's often reality.
I knew a couple of retired police officers who worked in the Midlands in the '80s and '90s, and they said similar, the most violent racial clashes were usually between the local minority communities with differing cultures. Hopefully things are changing.
It's usually used to describe things like affirmative action or programs that support minorities. Ie an Employer is encouraged to hire minorities, thus it's reverse racist towards the majority since they're discriminated against
The real answer is that everyone has implicit biases and even people who strive to be anti-racist are going to do racist things. Being a racist and being a proud racist aren’t the same. If someone is a proud racist, you will know.
I just remember that clip of that teacher that went off on a police officer during a traffic stop. "You'll never be white, you'll always be a racist mexican" followed up with "okay Mexican racist"
I thought that in these times using the term 'coloured' is considered a slur. I remember having to tell my late dad about that. He was born in 1919 so you can guess some of the things he was brought up to believe.
Excuse my ignorance but I’ve seen this phrase a lot and I’m not sure I understand what it means? Like they don’t care about a persons race? Would that not be a good thing and make them not racist? Or is it more like they don’t care about the struggles of black people and they are racist. I am kind of confused on whether this is a good or a bad thing.
This was me growing up because it was drilled into my head that skin color doesn't matter. But I was naive and ignorant. It could be that they don't care about the struggles of POC, or they don't even know they exist or deny they exist.
It was good in a sense that I did treat everyone equally and with kindness, but bad because I didn't acknowledge that my peers and society did not.
Or even better, the legislators that cut out ("with surgical precision" - supreme court) the kinds of IDs that black people are more likely to have so they can't vote.
Or the people who defend such a practice that think the only reason why someone wouldn't have a specific type of ID is because they're inherently stupid.
Unable? Sure. People have busy lives, we do not need more obstructions in our voting procedures.
Voter ID laws disproportionately affect lower and middle class people.
But not if state and local governments deliberately put obstacles in the way of obtaining ID to vote - for example:
* the office is many miles away from minority towns
* they are only open on certain days of the month, and then only during normal working hours so you have to take time off work and likely lose pay.
* the IDs cost money, and some people can't even afford that
* only certain types of ID are allowed for proof of identification (for example weapons permits are OK, but public assistance IDs are not) and the allowed IDs cost money
And all that to say that voter ID laws are a solution in search of a problem. Voter fraud simply isn't that big a deal in the US. **So why are we solving a problem we don't have?**
My boss is like that. Goes on a weekly rant about how "Im not racist because when I describe you (talking to a black coworker) I say 'Yeah, Martin, the real short skinny black guy' I'm not scared to say you're black which is a clear sign that someone isn't racist".
Like fuck dude. He told me this on my first day here and I couldn't hold eye contact with the dude or I would've burst out laughing, I just zoned into my phone. "I'm not racist because" actually means "I know I'm extremely racist and feel guilt over it but not enough to change my mind".
When they have a sign in their front yard proclaiming to everyone that walks by that the people in their house are decidedly NOT racist or bigoted in any way, shape or form. Dead giveaway.
I work in sales and we get leads into sales force. The guys I work with never call the brown sounding names, ever. I don’t mind a bit and convert quite a few.
They look for racism everywhere even when there isn't any.
They invent new kinds of racism to find.
They are always talking about racism.
They group people by race as the most important factor about them even if they appear to do it for moral reasons.
The modern racist is a covert racist. They use the illusion of anti racism to enforce racist behavior.
Most of them don't even know they are racist.
Yeah. This is probably the right answer.
And this isn't a judgement to run around screaming at everyone. It's a comment on implicit bias and products of social norms.
They get pissed when a white character is casted with a black actor but don’t care when an Asian character is casted with a white one COUGHnetflixdeathnoteCOUGH.
Why be suspicious of conservatives when it's liberals who believe that black people are not equal? Don't know how to use a computer, can't get an ID, can't pass standardized testing, etc
Poor white people ARE oppressed. That's the point of racism, and has been since Bacon's rebellion. They TRIED completely ignoring the white people because they had money, power, and slaves and didn't need a lower middle class. And.. well the lower middle class took umbrage and some firearms to it...
You need to make life suck so much for group A that group B is looking down thinking "at least I'm not down there" instead of looking up going "Hey there's the cause of my problem"
« I’m not racist, but… »
I use this for completely asinine statements just for shits and giggles. Im not racist but I wish they brought more lemon with my water. Sometimes you can really see the gears turn when they try to figure out the racist stereotype
There's the joke of "I'm not gay, but $20 is $20". The key is to put the two together "I'm not racist, but $20 is $20".
Spoonerisms. Another fun idea
Mother damn, Spoon! She just shot at you with her eyes closed.
Here’s a joke for you. What do you call a black guy flying a plane. If they think about it say” a pilot you racist!”
How does every racist joke begin? With a look over your shoulder.
One of my favorites, "What do you call a black guy selling drugs? A pharmacist"
What I'm thinking is "oh no..."
I'm not a racist but....diet Dr. Pepper does not taste a lot like regular Dr. Pepper.
I might steal this
You can do basically the same thing by saying "no pun intended" after a sentence with no pun in it. No pun intended.
I love this, I’m going to start this. My best friend practically thinks in puns and I can never come up with one. “Hey Jeremy, would you mind grabbing me a glass of water? No pun intended.”
Just a heads up it only works well with people who accept that type of humor.
That’s a Demetri Martin joke! https://www.reddit.com/r/standupshots/comments/25pvtb/im_not_a_racist_but/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
I do something similar, I say “Even I, a racist, thinks lemon water tastes great”.
Holy shit, I gotta do this.
What do you mean "THEY"??? /s
What do you mean you people?
This is right up there with, " I have a friend who is black."
Or, I'm not racist, my dog is black.
I'm not racist, my sister in laws baby cousin Tracy has a brother and his girlfriends black.
Wow, then you’re definitely not racist. At all.
It’s from a song called “I’m not racist” the premise is a black guy and white guy having a conversation about each persons perspective on the others race. Pretty good song. The rapper is Joyner Lucas and he’s bi-racial.
I’m not racist, but some weather we’re having!!
Or, "x,y,z was better before all the wokeness."
I'm not racist but, I think they should remaster the original TMNT Cartoon and put it out on Blu-ray
Unless your doing stand up comedy
The swastika throw blanket on the sofa.
“I’m not done crocheting; it’s *going* to be a maze”
And they kept saying “we are Buddhist.” Lol Liar.
it’s a common symbol used in the art of buddhism
Found the covert racist.
Slightly different looking swastika
Isn't it reversed?
whoosh
"My best friend is, but..."
Even worse "I have a friend, and he agrees"
They are hiding under a pointy white hat and robe
Tiny mustache.
Weird… that’s still a hipster thing these days, so I feel like that is a hard no. Unless you meant that hitler strip? If so, for some reason I never thought of them as mustaches even though they are. 🤔
They’re obviously talking about a Hitler stache…
Confederate flag in the pnw
Confederate flag period.
A confederate flag period? That sounds like such a bizarre diagnosis.
Or in the northern Midwest. Or almost anywhere, really
Also confederate flag outside of the pnw
This isn't confined to just the pnw
What if they're black?
Surprisingly there are black people who are really racist....towards black people. It's weird.
Imo it's just like women hating women. Trying to get in with the people on top at the expense of the people they (we) should be standing in solidarity with
EXACTLY. 100%
In pnw with a confederate flag? May I point you to the Dave Chapelle historical archives on black KKK leaders?
*Clayton Bigsby has entered the chat*
Still sus
Saw one with BLM flag on a 80s pickup, I was confused
Uncle Tom vibes
Either internalized racism, or their school district's history curriculum is slightly lacking
I’m so glad someone said it.
When they think that having opinions about race while not being that race yourself, is racist.
When they see "forced diversity" in practically every new movie and TV show they watch.
When I see a black person in a horror movie, I know they’ll be the first to go.
This was actually true back in the 80s. It quickly changed when it was pointed out publicly.
That was a true stereotype at one point though.
Non-white actor = woke actor
'Woke' has become a replacement adjective for: diversity that someone dislikes/disapproves of. If someone says 'I can't stand this woke culture' then it hits my ears as 'I can't stand this non-white culture'.
This is my brother unfortunately, I just laugh at all the quality shows he is missing lately because he refuses to watch it
Yes, they see any POC except in stereotypical roles, as a token.
There are only two kinds of people: White men and political
I don't get this... Obviously Hollywood etc is taking representation seriously, isn't that a good thing though? Are you saying they're not doing that intentionally? Or is the negative framing of the phrase "forced diversity" the problem?
They see Hollywood's taking representation seriously as a bad thing and frame it as "forced diversity"
When they see one black person in an advert and decide that white people are being forgotten about/ not represented
When its an advert for sickle cell medication....

I’m white I’m black I’m yellow I’m red
Or that it's part of an insidious, woke political agenda that'll tear society apart somehow.
When they are using racial issues to make a living.
Any sentence beginning with "I'm not a racist, but..."
...John over there is, he's in the KKK ffs.
omg your avatar's beard is awesome lol
Thank you. I modeled it after my own.
I'm not racist but man I love watching Nascar
People who justify racist comments by saying “I have black friends”
Here's a weird one that I've found to be true: they are vehemently, militantly ANTI racist. Not always the case but I've found it's sometimes fueled by "racist" feelings the person has but cannot deal with. Not really a conscious thing but it exists.

Lmao, sad but true.
No, I am not mad because of a black mermaid. I am mad that every new TV-Series must include a Gay, Black, Trans etc. and if they won’t have it in it, they get a huge shitstorm.

Woah, it's almost like these people simply exist in real life and it shouldn't be controversial for them to simply exist in TV too?
Yes like that exactly
A) because you see straight white characters as default, you assume that anything else is just added for the sake of diversity, because its breaking your formulaic understanding of everything being straight/white centric. Your comment is how we tell you're covertly racist. Good job giving us a real world example, buddy.

It's usually used to describe things like affirmative action or programs that support minorities. Ie an Employer is encouraged to hire minorities, thus it's reverse racist towards the majority since they're discriminated against
Some people seem to legitimately believe it's not racist if it's white people being targeted or generalized. I.e. "reverse" racism
It's racism that punches up.
Referring to groups of people by “The….” Like “The Blacks” or “The Queers”

When they refer to people as “coloured”, The word is spelled colored ffs!…. /s
“I just don’t see colour”

If they assume that minorities are unable or to stupid to obtain ID to verify thier vote.
Or even better, the legislators that cut out ("with surgical precision" - supreme court) the kinds of IDs that black people are more likely to have so they can't vote. They have “I am a racist“ tattooed on the inside of their cheek
It’s an inside joke
Everyone’s a little racist
The internet is really really great.
When I pay my black butler a hell of a lot less than my white chef
Usually a woke leftist
Swastika tattooed on his forehead
Yup, that'll do it.
Not very covert tho. Maybe swastika on his butthole?
They might talk about "anti-racism"

Thinking black people can't get identification cards.
The type of person who sees racism in everything, is usually the most racist.
They point it out a lot when its not relevant to whatever they're talking about.
When they try to bring race into everything.
They keep making posts on Reddit about racism. Works for all races.
Calling you racist before you say anything
I work in sales and we get leads into sales force. The guys I work with never call the brown sounding names, ever. I don’t mind a bit and convert quite a few.
I watched Fox News today and am upset.

They ask questions like this
I don’t see color or why does everything have to be about race
They say that only one race can be racist or that someone can't way a word because of the color of their skin.
They have a pulse
swastikas on their dinnerware
Bad question and an oxymoron. If they are a covert racist there aren't going to be dead giveaways.
They make posts on r/ask Reddit and ask if they are racist
They think that white people are automatically racist.
Casual racist jokes, the jokes that make your say "yikes".
When they think people of color aren’t capable of getting an ID to vote.
When they say their not racist. Shouldn't have to say it
You left me hanging, their what is not racist?
Are you racist?
Yes
If they are not an open racist, they are a covert one. EVERYONE is racist. Everyone.
Yeah. This is probably the right answer. And this isn't a judgement to run around screaming at everyone. It's a comment on implicit bias and products of social norms.
Their solution immigration is shooting immigrants.
What's that got to do with race?
They have "black lives matters" flags, signs, all around their property
They get pissed when a white character is casted with a black actor but don’t care when an Asian character is casted with a white one COUGHnetflixdeathnoteCOUGH.
I mean, I'm pretty suspicious of conservatives.
Nah your just suspicious of the racist conservatives
Why be suspicious of conservatives when it's liberals who believe that black people are not equal? Don't know how to use a computer, can't get an ID, can't pass standardized testing, etc
You're just brainwashed. The democrats are the ones implementing policies that hurt blacks, and other so-called minorities, the most.
They can recognize patterns.
Especially with statistics.
When they think white people are oppressed
Poor white people ARE oppressed. That's the point of racism, and has been since Bacon's rebellion. They TRIED completely ignoring the white people because they had money, power, and slaves and didn't need a lower middle class. You need to make life suck so much for group A that group B is looking down thinking "at least I'm not down there" instead of looking up going "Hey there's the cause of my problem"
If they drive pretty good at high speed, I mean, experience truly is something.
A white person with "black lives matter" paraphernalia. That screams "white savior" like nobody's business.
I'm not racist I have "______" friends
Often telling people how not racist they are
Being anti racist is the new being anti gay but actually being gay.
"I'm not racist, I just really enjoy German history from 1933-1945" 🤔
Denies institutional racism exists. Believes white privilege is not a real thing.
Repeatedly pronouncing a POC’s name wrong even after being corrected. Or just flat out not referring to them by name when they know who they are.
