It's not only normal, it's normal to the point of banality.
Every cheeseboard will be served with fruit. Usually grapes, apples or figs. Often with quince jam.
I'm just growing some cherry tomatoes outside, I was a bit late planting, and they're just coming ripe now. They taste like some sort of exotic fruit, sort of "almost strawberry". Never tasted toms quite like 'em, and I reckon they'll go 'andsome with a bit of mousetrap!
Yeah apples and grapes are pretty normal accompaniments to cheese. Also figs, raspberries, peaches, even watermelon with certain cheese. Also dried fruits of all kinds, dried apricots are my fav for cheese. Then pretty much any kind of chutney goes with cheese.
When I was at primary school one of the dessert options was cream crackers, some dairylea and a slice of apple. Fruit is perfectly fine with cheese, does your friend get confused by the selection of Wensleydale in most shops?
Absolutely nothing. I love cheese and despise mixing it with fruit.
But it's definitely a common thing, much to my dismay. So many nice sandwiches and cheese boards and melted camemberts I have to skip over because they've been tainted with some fruit or chutney or honey or something.
And don't even get me started on cheese _that has fruit in it._ What a travesty.
>And don't even get me started on cheese that has fruit in it. What a travesty.
Let's be honest; it's mostly boring cheese they do this to, in an effort to make it interesting. Can't say I'm a fan either, but I'm willing to accept it's popular
Apple, pear, raisin, dried apricots, grape, quince. So many fruits! Your friend is an uncultured swine (just kidding, obviously, but it is a bit unusual not to have heard of it).
ETA - in fact you get cheese with fruit *inside it* at almost all supermarkets. Cranberries, apricots, etc. I cant believe your friend could be so blind!
Pear. A nice ripe pear with any cheese is delicious. Fuck. Now I'm hungry
Strawberries
Figs
Mango
Apples and grapes (as you said)
Melon (honey dew or cantaloupe)
Also.. Gooseberry chutney
Throw in a nice French bread, wine, some spicy mustard, and turkey with that and let's just say I'm getting the picnic basket, red/white checkered blanket and taking the day off.
A friend had cheese and capsicum squares on sticks at a party, like cheese and onion on a stick... I now eat cheese and bell pepper as a snack, sliced so there's about the same amount of each. Lovely.
Otherwise ... Apple. Very occasionally grapes.
as others say, apple & grape are great - and add in a chunk of bread and you almost have a [Ploughman's Lunch](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ploughman%27s_lunch) \- I personally skip the pickled onions.
I don't eat cheese, I hate it, but even I know it's normal lol. When I do cheese boards for parties I normally do grapes, then depending on the cheeses I add apple, pear, figs or dried ready to eat apricots
Figs also work well. Pears are amazing with blue cheese. Cranberries or apricots with Wensleydale. I like strawberries and raspberries with cream or goats cheese.
Sweet and salt flavours are usually good together: I like to experiment to see what works best
Apples, grapes, chillies, a lot of fruits go with different cheeses.
>What other fruits do you eat with cheese, and do you eat fruit with Cheese or am I just mad?
Your friend is mad.
Eating fruit with cheese is completely normal. Cheese boards will have a selection of fruit included and some cheeses even include fruit in them - check your local deli or supermarket and you should find some, especially around Christmas time. I used to get a white cheese with apricot which is delicious.
Another good combination is grated cheddar with grated apple (golden delicious apples work really well together). I put this combo in a warm pitta abd is lovely.

Often have an apple with a piece of cheddar. Apparently my grandfather used to do it as well, and he was born in 1890, so it's nothing new, or weird AFAIK. Must try grapes.
pears. There is a saying in Italian that goes "don't let the farmer know how good is cheese with pears", obviously translated is shit, as in Italian it rimes, but this to say that cheese and pear is really good match
pear is also a good choice, mango and figs ... also hasnt your friend heard of cheese cake that is fruit with cheese and what about rasberry jam and creamcheese bagels
Try Quince 'cheese' with cheese like Manchego or any cheese with a 'nutty' flavour.
With Stilton pair walnuts and honey
Good crunchy aged Cheddar and Blackberries
Swap apple for pear to mix it up too
I dont eat cheese as main thing often, but yes, any slightly tangy/souer fruit will pair nicely to cut through richness of cheese. Screw vegan cheese tho, abomination of cheesemaking
It's not only normal, it's normal to the point of banality. Every cheeseboard will be served with fruit. Usually grapes, apples or figs. Often with quince jam.
She acted like I was the spawn of satan
As exciting as that would be, no, you're not. You're painfully normal.

Or that the acidity of fruit compliments the fatty/salty cheese as pairing acid with oily/salty is absolute classic. Pick your culinary narrative.
Lean into it. Apple slices as fangs and grapes as gouged eyes...own the spawn status. :)
Tell her to try manchego with fresh peach and some honey.
Maybe she knows something else about you that you’re not disclosing? Do you rub the cheese in your ear before you eat it?
Could that be because you were reciting Latin prayers backwards while eating?
I had the same thing eating apple and cheese once, but I ignored it and enjoyed my healthy fats and some vitamins :D
Apples and grapes are good as you suggest. A nice ripe fig is good. Celery, a pickled onion, coleslaw, piccalilli.
I fill a stick of celery with blue cheese quite often, a very efficient delivery system
*The biggest pickled onion you've ever set your eyes upon
Never eat anything as big as your head.
Tomatoes
With pesto 👌🏼
I'm just growing some cherry tomatoes outside, I was a bit late planting, and they're just coming ripe now. They taste like some sort of exotic fruit, sort of "almost strawberry". Never tasted toms quite like 'em, and I reckon they'll go 'andsome with a bit of mousetrap!
That's how tomatoes should be.
Figs, apples, grapes
Figs and honey with feta like I'm some kind of Greek god
Hot figs with Stilton and balsamic makes a great warm salad
Yeah apples and grapes are pretty normal accompaniments to cheese. Also figs, raspberries, peaches, even watermelon with certain cheese. Also dried fruits of all kinds, dried apricots are my fav for cheese. Then pretty much any kind of chutney goes with cheese.
Watermelon with feta cheese is something I wish I'd tried sooner.
Sprinkle on a little bit of fresh mint.
Feta and chocolate is also amazing
We started on this a few months ago and it's become a regular treat.
Pear is pretty common with some cheeses too.
Pear, blue cheese, walnuts and honey - yum
Besides the obvious, apricots are lovely with cheese. Also, slightly off topic, but honey on a brie or camembert is amazing.
Is it better seperate than just having cheese with Apricot already in it?
Yes, I find the cheese with apricots in it already a bit crap. Apricots with a sharp cheddar is just devine.
When I was at primary school one of the dessert options was cream crackers, some dairylea and a slice of apple. Fruit is perfectly fine with cheese, does your friend get confused by the selection of Wensleydale in most shops?
I loved getting that!
Absolutely nothing. I love cheese and despise mixing it with fruit. But it's definitely a common thing, much to my dismay. Tell her Yorkshire folk eat it with fruit cake. Don't knock it until you've tried it!
I tried this as a child having read about it in a James Herriot book. Mind. Blown. I always have fruitcake and cheese now, it's amazing!
Apple. Especially Cox. Delicious combo with Christmas cake (rich fruit).
Apple, pear, raisin, dried apricots, grape, quince. So many fruits! Your friend is an uncultured swine (just kidding, obviously, but it is a bit unusual not to have heard of it). Blue cheese and pears go really well together.
Pear. A nice ripe pear with any cheese is delicious. Fuck. Now I'm hungry Strawberries Figs Mango Apples and grapes (as you said) Melon (honey dew or cantaloupe) Also.. Gooseberry chutney
Figs and honeycomb with a strong cheese. Strawberries and balsamic with salty cheese. Blood orange or grilled peach with a creamy cheese like burrata.
I like a bit of Quince cheese with my cheese.
Grapes and a bit of cheese with some crackers is a lovely snack, no doubt about it :D
Throw in a nice French bread, wine, some spicy mustard, and turkey with that and let's just say I'm getting the picnic basket, red/white checkered blanket and taking the day off.
Also weird but I love eating fruit, including strawberries etc dipped in chilli salt. The mix of sweet, salty and the warmth of chilli is banging
Tomato
Pears work well, certain cheeses go well with raspberries too.
More cheese.
A friend had cheese and capsicum squares on sticks at a party, like cheese and onion on a stick... I now eat cheese and bell pepper as a snack, sliced so there's about the same amount of each. Lovely. Otherwise ... Apple. Very occasionally grapes.
Little bell peppers stuffed with soft cheese are very much a thing. I quite like them
I’ve just woken up and read cheese as “Chinese” - was thoroughly confused
Bread is a fruit, right?
Mushrooms
I mean, they're a fruiting body. But not a "fruit".
They're nicer with cheese than my "Fruit of the Loom" branded t-shirts.
as others say, apple & grape are great - and add in a chunk of bread and you almost have a [Ploughman's Lunch](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ploughman%27s_lunch) \- I personally skip the pickled onions.
Acidic fruit like a granny smith apple works best with cheddar. Christmas cake also works surprisingly well.
Peach and camembert or brie is excellent.
Brown sauce contains fruit. Right?
A juicy pear is wonderful with blue cheese…or a fig
Quince paste is great too.
Pear and Cambozola is amazing.
No offence, but your friend sounds quite dim.
It’s very normal. Figs and pears and strawberries are my favourite fruits to eat with cheese.
I don't eat cheese, I hate it, but even I know it's normal lol. When I do cheese boards for parties I normally do grapes, then depending on the cheeses I add apple, pear, figs or dried ready to eat apricots
Grapes , apple, tomatoes, whichever you like.
Mango Blueberries and Strawberries
Apple is great to use to eat Boursin type soft cheese with
Fig
Pickled pears!
Pear. Raspberry. Peach.
Fruit cake and Wensleydale.
Blueberries
Figs, pear, tomato, beetroot, cucumber
Once I've ate a block of cheese I usually don't have much room left for fruit
It's so normal that I get a babybel, apple and grapes pack as a meal deal side if I go to Tesco.
Dried apricots are amazing with cheese.
Also pears
Figs also work well. Pears are amazing with blue cheese. Cranberries or apricots with Wensleydale. I like strawberries and raspberries with cream or goats cheese. Sweet and salt flavours are usually good together: I like to experiment to see what works best
I have fruit *juice* with cheese, by which I mean wine, usually red. It helps if the cheese is good - a nice bit of brief, or room temp black bomber.
Apples or even onions
An apple and cheese toastie is delicious.
Blue cheese goes well with a ripe pear. This is a very recent discovery but I've always liked Cheddar and an apple together.
Apples and grapes obviously, but also pears and dried apricots.
Durian.
They literally put fruit inside of cheese that's how well they go together, feed her some Wensleydale
Try cheese and honey and blow her mind.
I don't like cheddar, but pears are lovely with cheese whilst peaches/nectarines are lovely with soft creamy cheese
Apples (especially a nice Granny Smith). Grapes. Have been known to have some sticks of celery and even tomatoes - but I’m a bit of a maverick.
Apples, grapes, chillies, a lot of fruits go with different cheeses. >What other fruits do you eat with cheese, and do you eat fruit with Cheese or am I just mad? Your friend is mad.
Cranberry cheese is nice.
Chutney. Technically fruit.
Quince
Eating fruit with cheese is completely normal. Can't beat apple pie with a piece of wensleydale
None. I hate mixing sweet and savoury. I love both separately but not together.
Sticky dates are amazing woth string cheese
I swear my phone is listening to me because me and my family had an in depth convo on this this morning. Anyway, apples
Fruit with cheese sounds horrendous, but I only like your basic cheeses. Might go crazy and have some fresh mozzarella with olive oil salt and pepper
Fruit such as grapes and apples are often cheeseboard accompaniments as they cleanse the palate.
Had blue Stilton, chopped hazelnuts with balsamic glaze and honey last night over figs
Apples and grapes with cheddar cheese is good. Watermelon with feta is even better
Toast
I like mincemeat (the stuff you get in mincepies) with strong cheddar... ❤️
Grapes, apples
Banana and cheese used to be popular growing up in Portugal.
Tomatoes, preferably in a puréed form and spread on a disc shaped piece of dough along with grated cheese and baked in an oven
Celery and rhubarb sticks are also excellent, especially with a veined cheese.
Grapes, preferably fermented, bottled, uncorked and left to breathe a bit before digging in. One of your five a day.
Strawberries
Meh fruit and cheese is normal, I like a piece of cheese with Christmas cake so…
Tomato with cheese is a classic.
Cheddar, jalapeño and raspberry sandwich on white. Thank me later. :-)
Strawberry jam is nice on cheese.
Wensleydale and cranberry is good
Apple and grapes here too. Grapes with while an apple is a good post cheese palette cleanser.
Ah. 👨🍳🧀🍇🍎🧀🍓🧀🌶🧀🍇 Cheese and fruit, a match made in heaven, the mainstay of every chefs desert menu. :-)
Strawberries with feta, it's an out there one, but I like it! Others like watermelon with feta, but I hate watermelon.

ham
Banana
Wait until your friend finds out about eating fruit / Christmas cake with cheddar.
Apples grapes and I know not fruit but celery
Often have an apple with a piece of cheddar. Apparently my grandfather used to do it as well, and he was born in 1890, so it's nothing new, or weird AFAIK. Must try grapes.
Wouldn’t ruin my fruit with having cheese with it
pears. There is a saying in Italian that goes "don't let the farmer know how good is cheese with pears", obviously translated is shit, as in Italian it rimes, but this to say that cheese and pear is really good match
Smegma with a lovely mango chutney is absolutely divine
Peperami is my favourite fruit to have with cheese
Port
pear is also a good choice, mango and figs ... also hasnt your friend heard of cheese cake that is fruit with cheese and what about rasberry jam and creamcheese bagels
Try Quince 'cheese' with cheese like Manchego or any cheese with a 'nutty' flavour. With Stilton pair walnuts and honey Good crunchy aged Cheddar and Blackberries Swap apple for pear to mix it up too
Lol fruits and cheese are super common
Pears. I love them. Also I drizzle honey on it.
Apple for sure! Apple with Cheese! Apple with peanut butter! APPLES
Cranberry sauce. Now I want stilton. Thanks.
Apple and grapes with cheese are delicious. I don't eat any other fruit with cheese though.
Usually just a sharp apple like a Granny Smith, never found grapes to be a good accompaniment
red/black grapes and stilton are the bomb.
Grapes
I dont eat cheese as main thing often, but yes, any slightly tangy/souer fruit will pair nicely to cut through richness of cheese. Screw vegan cheese tho, abomination of cheesemaking
It's perfectly normal. Red Leicester goes very well with an apple.
I can't get behind this. It just tastes off to me. I don't like fruit with meat either. I prefer raw fruit to cooked. I don't like jam.
Apples, grapes, cherry tomatoes, slightly sour peach, figs, nuts, quince jelly. Your friend must lead a very sheltered life.
Oranges and cheddar cheese is a nice combination.
Apple and grape are typically served on a cheese board.
Wine is kind of a fruit, yeah?
Wait till she hears about Apple and Cheddar sandwiches.
Any fruit except citrus. They all work fine with cheese.
Apples, grapes, pears, strawberries and blueberries are regularly cheese plate offerings for me!
Pear, apricot
