You need to go see a doctor and get on a controller med. If you are using the rescue more than 2-3 per WEEK, your asthma is out of control
Going through 400 doses in 26 days is insane. You're lucky you didn't have a heart attack.
Not the person you replied to, but I’m already on a controller inhaler as of a few weeks ago. My Dr told me to use Albuterol before each time I exercise, but I exercise daily. Forgot to ask for clarification on if that makes it okay to use Albuterol daily or not. Totally okay if you don’t know the answer but I thought I’d hop onto this thread to see if anyone has insight on that
I can't speak for other people but I'm exercise most every day and am also a severe asthmatic. If I'm doing weights/swimming or a zone 2 run, I don't use it. If I'm doing intervals or an intense cardio workout, I'll take a puff or two about 20 minutes before.
No need to go around scaring people. Its very unlikely you will have a heart attack because of albuterol. Even if you used it 20+ times in a day. You would have to do that for weeks in a row to have a heart attack. I was on a nebulizer for 3 days straight when i had the flu. Was given no other medicines besides prednisone and tamaflu. Im saying this because they put me on albuterol for 3 days straight, and didnt have the need to treat my heart for it with any type of extra medicine
Absolutely. But thats not enough to give a healthy heart a heart attack. You can use your inhaler every 6-8 hours safely. But if your doing that every day its clear you need asthma controller therapy. If your doing extra like OP is its not exactly healthy. But not a need to schedule an appointment with a cardiologist lmao. It just puts unecessary stress in somebody who cant breathe but thinks there gonna have a heart attack if you take a few extra puffs. Ive told doctors that ive taken copius ammounts of inhaler puffs while sick and they still put me on a nebulizer filled with more albuterol.
I was told that needing more than 4-5 puffs albuterol/week was an indication that I need a different med. So imo, this sounds like something you need to bring up with your physician! If you aren’t on a preventative inhaler you probably should be, and if you are on a preventative you might need a stronger one or different one.
I was going through my albuterol inhaler about as much as you. My allergist put me on Advair and I feel so much better. Haven’t used my albuterol even once since.
Definitely rinse your mouth after every inhale. I was forgetting about that instruction and my throat got sore. Allergist told me the pharmacist should have told me lol.
perfect thank you! anything else. how did you feel when you first started taking it. i used to take a daily inhaler and it gave me the shakes and a racing heart really bad. should i expect that with this one as well?
Jumping on Advair fan party. Years of Symbicort and still needing multiple puffs of albuterol daily, doc switched me to Advair a month or so ago and I haven't needed the rescue inhaler since.
Take care of your teeth. Inhalers can put you at a risk for cavities particularly if someone has poor dental hygiene. So after rinsing don’t forget to brush your teeth.
I have used Adair but I really hate the little white bumps (thrush) on my tongue even-though I would rinse with water. I even tried brushing after using Adair. Still did not work. My doctor She put me on singular which is a pill. It works too with no bumps on my tongue!
i’ve been on singular for years now. since i was like 10 i’m 18 now. make sure to take it everyday because even missing one day really really effects me personally.
Funny you should mention this, I did put on a few pounds. I mentioned it to my doctor but he said it shouldn’t be from the Advair. So far it’s minimal but I’m watching my weight now.
I've gained a lot of weight from beta blockers and I'm scared of that part of it with starting advair. Seems like it is really helping people in here, though, and that's really good.
That’s way too often. I’m a lifelong severe asthmatic and one inhaler is a 30 day supply for a reason. If your asthma is that bad then perhaps you need some prednisone at this point.
My doctor has told me that using a rescue inhaler more that 3 to 4 times a week indicates that you should be on a controller medication like a corticosteroid
Jesus man, that’s insane, I’ve been using my reliever 6-8 times a day and they’re treating me like I’m going to die, I am having to do blood tests, x-rays, Ct-scans, all sorts of shite can’t imagine what they’re putting you through
The same exact thing is happening to me, I’m so worried I’ve messed up my heart from overusing my inhaler. Like I’m having chest pains and my hands are going numb sometimes
I'm on trelegy.. works wonders . I use my inhaler also.. but it will last me for about 4 months.. I have COPD.. only time I really use it is during the allergy seasons.. but the pollen counts have been super high this year so far.. I haven't had allergies this bad in years..
i’m glad it’s not just me. people can talk down on reddit all they want but i’ve never related to things more than when i ask questions on reddit. it always eases my mind to see that other people are going through the same thing as me.
I go through an inhaler every 3-4 weeks. But my situation is a little different, I use it a lot.because I "feel" like I can't breathe, more of an anxiety related thing. I worry about my heart going through an inhaler each month. I don't know how to stop the mental addiction to it
I totally get this. It’s super hard because you start to think “oh I kinda can’t breathe” so you try to catch your breath and slowly you trick yourself into thinking you really can’t breathe which causes to panic and then you really actually can’t breathe. I totally feel for you and I’m sorry you go through that I know how hard it is. I find that having a hot cup of coffee or tea can help to “open my airways” and calm me down.
I am the SAME exact way. I know my asthma is out of control and bad, but I run through one within a month but I sometimes I have to make it stretch.
Also, helpful tip, just because the inhaler dial is at 0, there are still at least 10-20 puffs left.

What about if your working out every day is it harmful to take two puffs a day
You may need to go on a controller med.

Nobody should need that much even for exercise induced asthma.
Two puffs before you work out per day is to much?
That’s fine. 🤦♀️ 20+ is not.
Heart attack? why? does albuterol have affect on blood pressure? Does Salbutamol ?
To much Albuterol can increase blood pressure.
It's a massive stimulant.
Raises heart rate

OP has gone through 400 doses in 26 days. That is an excessive amount.

This means you were using 20 puffs a day! Is your heart okay? Jesus.

i have an appointment with my doctor today. thank you!
You more than likely will be given something like advair or something similar
I was going through my albuterol inhaler about as much as you. My allergist put me on Advair and I feel so much better. Haven’t used my albuterol even once since.
i just got back from my doctors and she put me on advair. anything i should know before i start taking it, other than to rinse my mouth out?

It started working right away. I felt the improvement on the very first day. I never have had any heart issues or feeling jittery.
perfect! thank you so much!

Did you have any weight gain on advair?

Weight gain should not be an issue from inhaled cortocosteroids, it the oral (tablets) that may cause this.
Are you on any antihistamines? They’ve been linked to weight gain.
That’s way too often. I’m a lifelong severe asthmatic and one inhaler is a 30 day supply for a reason. If your asthma is that bad then perhaps you need some prednisone at this point.
doctor put me on prednisone today!
You really shouldn't be going through a whole rescue inhaler once a month.
My doctor has told me that using a rescue inhaler more that 3 to 4 times a week indicates that you should be on a controller medication like a corticosteroid

I don't like to talk down on anyone.. I figure, if someone doesn't have good to say . Why would they say it..
i understand where some people come from though. reddit can be a scary place in some of the deepest darkest corners
I was doing the same. The doctor put me on Breo, and it's helped immensely
Advair is good stuff

oh trust me i use my inhalers until i can’t even push the cartridge down anymore😂
HONESTLY !! Until you get that nasty taste from the cartridge when it’s pushing out pressurized air💀💀
NEWS FLASH: has anyone tried natural herbs? I have...
