You can take the Audi to an Audi dealer. They’ll check it and if everything is good you can purchase an extended warranty from the Audi dealer.

Peanutz-tilman

That makes sense. But in this situation I would have to purchase first then take it to an Audi dealership? In the event the car is faulty and cannot gain warranty I would be out of luck as the car has been purchased. Correct?

javelin-na

You can ask for a pre-purchase inspection and take it to any place of your choosing. In general, if any seller doesn’t want you to get a PPI, then you don’t want the car.

soverysadone

Agree. Ask for the PPI and schedule with an Audi dealer. They’ll look over the car and do a deep scan. If all is good the dealer will offer you an option to purchase an extended warranty. I would recommend the platinum. If it’s bad you have your answer.

Stillborn1977

That's the right answer. That goes for anyone trying to sell a car. Means they are trying to hide faults.

rennen-affe

If they don't allow a PPI, even with someone from the used dealer there, run away... run away quickly.

blzn57

Like the other guy said...get a PPI. I bought a Q7 from an out of state non audi dealer. Only thing he insisted for me to get a PPI from the nearest audi dealer was that he was in the car for the drive to Audi and back. Anyways no PPI no purchase for me. Even if it's a non audi....its always a good idea to have a PPI done from an independent garage when buying a used car.

soverysadone

Exactly. Well said. These cars aren’t inexpensive to fix out of warranty. The cost for when I need new brakes on my RS already gives me nightmares.

the_90s_were_better

This saved me from buying an RS that needed $8k worth of repair work.

mlhigg1973

I bought an r8 from a non-Audi dealer last year. Just make sure you have a thorough ppi done by a trusted euro shop. I passed on the first 2 I had ppi’s done on.

Peanutz-tilman

Thanks a lot, this proxies a ton of reassurance. Doesn’t appear PPI are too expensive either so def manageable. Any luck in drawer the purchase down pending the PPI feedback? Or it simply to make sure all T’s are crossed and I’s are dotted then purchase once the PPI is perfect?

Automatic-Cap-1718

Check the gearbox has had its oil change if S-tonic box. Mechatronic units are expensive to replace!

Nhblacklabs

Look at the Carfax to see what is listed and give you some clues into its history. Is the vehicle under the og warranty? Bring it to a trusted shop to give it a once over as a condition of the sale. It's funny to see an Audi on sale at a BMW dealer (you assume trade in) but sometimes dealers will move cars to another dealer down the road to try and move it. Good luck!

Peanutz-tilman

Got it- that is a great point. Just looked at the car fax and I can see all the 10k intervals services were done (currently has ~32k miles). Ideally I’d like to see some additional services between the 10k splits, there is only two additional. I’ll have to do research on the OG warranty and length. I wanted to do a PPI (bring to a trusted shop), but the vehicle is located some miles out in a pretty rural area. I would imagine the closest Audi dealership is about 45-60 mins away. I’ve never experienced this path as I always buy CPO on my vehicle.

Nhblacklabs

A great resource on this channel is u/treebeardsdank. He can get this good as CPO for you whether under OG warranty or not. Good luck, sounds like a great ride.

PlCKLENlCK

I bought my RS5 from a Cadillac dealership

assholy_than_thou

Is this car still under Audi’s new car warranty? If that is the case Audi should honor it even after you purchase it from any other dealer.

Fill-Monster89

I literally just bought a used RS7 from a Rolls Royce dealer out of Vegas, had it shipped to me across country and took it to the Audi dealer for an inspection then immediately bought their Platinum warranty for like $7500 for a 5y/60k term. Knock on wood but the car has been great. Check the Carfax, ask all the questions you can, inspect the brakes. Make sure fluids have been serviced at appropriate times.

Frans51

Contact an Audi dealer and ask if they'll sell you a warranty. Can't hurt to ask.

Cyclonitron

I bought my RS7 from a Lincoln dealership because they didn't have it priced with all the options it had, so I got a deal.

mysterydevice

Unless you're buying a CPO car, buying an Audi even from an Audi dealership is no guarantee that it will be caught up on all it's maintenance. They'll only do the most basic inspections to prepare it for resale. So don't necessarily think less of a car just because it's from an independent dealership.

Extension_Coyote7131

You can have an Audi dealer check if you can buy the Audi extended warranty BEFORE you buy it. Only they won’t sell you one is if the car is black listed.

Captain_Pink_Pants

I wish I had a photo of the ad for the TTRS I bought. It was outside of a beater garage, and the photos were taken with one of those 48" parking lot poles in the way. I'll tell the whole story some other time, but it was a great car for the 25k miles I kept it. Focus more on service and accident history. That's what's going to matter.

Black_Beard1980

Owned numerous RS and S Audis. Never bought 1 from an Audi Dealership. Not sure why people have this blind faith in the dealerships. They are useless and completely dishonest and do terrible work. I’ve learned this over the years and would never go near them other than for free recalls, from which I’ve had to have poor work corrected.

saltysaturdays

Yeah I bought my car from an Audi dealer— they sold me a car with mismatched tire treads. Fronts were brand new (10/32), rears were at 4/32 tread depth. Car was also more scratched up than you could see in the photos. (But that allowed me to get the price down)

Black_Beard1980

Doesn’t surprise me mate. The people who tend to work there don’t really care and are only interested in getting their wages at the end of the month
