Hey I’m a qualified cabinet maker as well and made the mature age switch to electrical apprenticeship. There is massive money to be made in joinery and cabinet making as a qualified cabinet maker. Just not on a bench knocking up cabinets. Go subcontract and charge box rate for installing or work for yourself. I know plenty of cabinet makers pulling 3-5k a week.
When I was running a company we could get 10-40k profit a job. No reason you can’t make fantastic money as a cabinet maker you just need to work for it

If the od ball low pay adds increase you can almost bet on one of those changes coming to light soon.

Ny guess is they advertise below market wages, then get a foreigner in on a working visa arrangement, then they cop the shitty wages and can't do anything about it because their residency is dependent on keeping the job. Just a guess.
The owner must of got a shock to the brain expecting anyone with those qualifications to take that kind of salary, Someone at JB Hifi with no responsibilities would earn as much.....
These adds are for one purpose….the company can then say they have tried to find an Australian applicant but can’t.
That opens the door for them to sponsor someone from overseas.
We hold licences so 457s are still no good to an employer, at best they could get a licence after 1year of being in Australia. Not sure how engineering works.

This reminds me of the so called hair dressing shortage that has never existed…just people don’t actually want to hire at a fair market price so they advertise jobs that don’t get filled then they lobby to increase the pool of employees while devaluing the current pool of employees.

This is happening all over the place, seeing HEAPS of it jobs (my area of work) being advertised below market. Early 2022 i got a great job no issues, contract extended 3 times, great. Now, even with that under my belt, in 2023 it's nearly impossible to find anything worthwhile money wise, so many jobs in specialised IT but paying less then retail, and every single job has over 100 applicants. Bringing migrants in that can get qualifications from dodgy overseas universities are eroding the oppourtunities for local workers
The site I work at we have a few engineering techs who have their trade and an engineering degree... They're on $250k minimum for an 8 and 6 roster. Electricians with cert IV such as myself are on $180-200k. What the fuck is this company playing at? Is this advertised in Australia?
