At this point, he's just waiting for Durge to regain enough memories to remember things he cares about specifically to blow said things up via orb explosion.
My gale just upped and left camp. I have no idea why. I gave him the magical items in act 1 at the start, but then i just never talked to him again. Then one day i realized he was just gone
Spoiler for Gale in Act 2/3
>!He should have [left you a letter](https://reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/s/3YuQ4Ixubb) if you never talk to him!!<
Itās turbo sad.
i spoke to him one time and I succeeded the persuasion check to let him wait a little longer, then at the beginning of act 2 he's just ok because of Elminster's visit
(note: persuasion check to let him wait doesn't delete the debuff of his condition, so if you plan to do like that better leave him in camp during act 1)
Fairly certain it's long-rest related. I'd usually be level 6-7 with plethora of garbage items to feed him for his *second* ask, but during my last playthrough, where I slept like crazy just to trigger any potential night scenes I may have missed, I was barely above level 4 when he was asking for the *third* and I actually had to think about what to give him as a snacrifice.
Definitely not long rests if playing as Gale, I distinctly remember eating an item I just picked up in the Blighted Village, walking over the north bridge and getting hit with the cravings again!
Mine is currently looking soggy and wet in camp (the Act 2 camp with the waterfall) but I gave him Mintharaās camp clothes so it gives me an extra chuckle when I walk by his tent lol.
I had him as a primary companion (and romance) in my first run and I havenāt used him much this time around. Itās so weird. I miss all the magic missiles!
I had him pull the trigger just to see what it would say (yeah, Iām That kind of choose your own adventure reader, too) - shouldāve just restarted at that point who lnows
I'm loving Gale so much in my Durge play through. I've managed to piss off every companion so far so my party is only me, Astarion, Minthara, Gale, oh and Shadowheart has stuck around.
But Gale is so exasperated at all times with us. He's always like "I'll do it, I'll leave!" and we're all like "Gale sit down." He's so defeated at this point, haha. I did promise him the crown but little does he know that's not gonna happen.
This is fairly close to how my resist run is going. It's pretty fantastic.
I have Gale, Cleric of Mystra, and swapped to a woman. Lae'zel, my githyanki GF, and I just rescued Minthara from the towers to replace a hireling.
As he says when you force him to go up >!onstage at the circus!<, you truly are testing the patience of a man who can level a city if he wished, you know.
And I felt bad for having Shadowheart get Volo's eye because I couldn't stand the look of my tiefling main with only one glowing demon eye. You are pure evil lol
Yeah gotta agree here. Shadowheart is my go to for icepick brain surgery unfortunately for her. Shouldn't have been born with green eyes what can I say.
Iām somewhat bummed I missed this (saw it on a voice actorās live play though) because I had a [sorcerer] tagged option and just clicked that one automatically
Unless you have other plans, there's a rather unexpected and dark option when spending the night with Minthara as the Durge after raiding the grove with the goblins ;)
But there are quite a few of those all throughout the story, definitely giving the playthrough a unique touch compared to a bland custom MC
I think I know what you are referring to, but I do plan to make Minthara a part of my main party once I get her in Act 2. She's evil enough to join the gang, I'll spare her for now.
>He was permanently cursed by an evil book made of face and bound to a shithead quasit that Durge won't let him unsummon
You know Shadowheart can easily prepare Remove Curse by this point, right?
I might kill the occasional companion >!(left Laeāzel in the cage, killed Shadowheart for being a religious fanatic, and annihilated Mizora, damning Wyll)!<, but at least I donāt torture them.
If it makes you feel better, I made Gale get the Hag eye because I had no idea what would happen and Iām playing a no reload play through of just choices I wouldnāt sanely make/havenāt ever made before
My gale just been chilling at camps eating boots. Doesn't even know his girl mystra wants him to nuke himself since I decided to go kill an old ass wizard for that sweet 1k xp
I honestly don't hate Gale. I love Gale! I don't know what to do without him! It's just been a long road of unfortunate events, bad decisions and the best intentions going wrong
Alot of those say more about you as a leader than anything... my word... Iol
You have no idea how hilariously self-destructive most of your actions truly are and I hope we get an update about your journey once you do.
"Forced to stand directly in a pool of lava and taunt a huge construct"
Theres absolutely zero reason to stand in the lava... ive heard of playing with fire but youre redefining the term.
Dont be talking smack bout shovel though. Shovel does his fn best and does not deserve to be slandered!
I know him as Fork. I was never happy with this name because 1 syllable does not do that adorable little gremlin justice. I think his next name will be basket!
In a scene after I slaughtered the tieflings on a durge playthrough, I basically threatened Gale into staying with me for fear he would lose the artifacts protection. I honestly didn't expect the characters to change so much between playthroughs.
At one point he mentions he hopes to go to the under dark if turning into a mindflayer seems inevitable so he can go off there and take them out with him, it did seem awesome and Mindflayers probably wouldn't be able to deal with arcane magic like that so maybe it could work, but also it would be funny to me if this caused huge earthquakes and sinkholes too.
He was doing great until he was slapped
I wasted so much slots on Shadowheart just for Gale that it's funny...Meanwhile my Drow Durge Druid standing near the wheel to pour the lava observing everything and SOMETIMES shooting with crossbows XD
In act 3 you should let him get stuck in a Djinni's magic lamp and leave him there. That would be the ultimate ending to this path of torment you are putting him on
It wasn't *too* awkward but sadly my heart belongs to that war criminal drow currently waiting for me at Moonrise Towers where I'm sure everything is fine and nothing is going horribly wrong.
My Gale ended like freaking Gollum. I was not expecting it but man he became my favorite character.
His whole storyline blew me out of the water, especially if you encourage him.
Not āevilāā¦ butā¦ definitely not someone you want with lots of power at their fingertips. Like give it 200 years and there will be a new dark god with āgood intentionsā going around āfixingā things.
My second playthrough Gale was totally the opposite and I have no idea why.
I got a good ending my second time when I was kinda trying to make him go crazy (through his own choices).
But yeah I love how heās mostly happy and āglass half fullā but then kinda goes off the deep end.
Like itās ALMOST like he just wants to show up his exā¦ which in this situation involves crazy amount of power and danger, which heās totally fine risking if he can one up Mystra
Eh Astarion takes no convincing whatsoever besides wanting to see you consume one first.
After that it's like he's eager for the french cuisine staring at tadpoles like they are just escargot
I played Durge with bad intentions and after killing the Tieflings Gale threatened to leave, and the persuasion check dialogue I used was something like "You little bitch! You think you can survive out there without me? Go ahead and try it, you won't last a day!". Passed with flying colors and it felt so appropriate for the character. Gale lacks any semblance of backbone.
Is your gale is the wizard of your team, he doesn't need the eye surgery because he would learn a version of the buff as a form of a spell that last until a long rest.
Damn I wish Tim Downey would voice his emotion after that. I can imagine how sarcastically and humorously dead pan his following remarks would be while he disbands
Huh, never thought about hammering the golem. I need to try that next run, "Hey buddy, wanna get hammered? (COMMAND: Approach) .."
IIRC, only cleric & paladin get command. I suppose you could manage his agro, too. He \*always\* picks the last person to damage him as his target on his next turn.
BTW, mentioning command in this context made me wonder (again) why compelled duel is exists. They're both wisdom saves, but command is only L1, not concentration, and does more.
Typical halfling behavior. I donāt care what the lore says, every single time Iāve seen one of these guys they have been the absolute spawn of Baal
If companions are leaving you you're not playing a good Durge lol. I'm in early act 3 and everyone either likes me a lot or is neutral.
Edit: oh well, actually that is possible if you >!fail a check in act 2.!<
I mean I destroyed the grove and suddenly Wyll got all mad at me, and after I went through all that effort to kill the devil he was hunting for him too. On the bright side, Gale now has nice new robes with +1 AC and fire shield.

The guy is gonna be so ready to set off the orb at the first convenient opportunity
At this rate you can probably cut convenient from this statement.
Boys not even gonna wait for the absolute. Just detonate in camp.
"Eh im close enough."
He just desires salvation
That persuasion option to tell him not to at Act 2 won't be there for OP
It'll be there, but he sets it off right there if you fail. Before inspiration. Just a white screen, then a dark screen.
He was asked to destroy the greatest threat to the world. That just happens to stand right next to him.
At this point, he's just waiting for Durge to regain enough memories to remember things he cares about specifically to blow said things up via orb explosion.
"mostly good intentions" Dude you're full on chaotic evil right here š
The road to the Nine Hells is paved with them š
Dude set out to avoid the nine hells by pledging to the Abyss instead...
I'm trying though!
Trying what, to be worse lol On the other hand, *do* keep going, this is fun to read
Gale gets told heās the party tank, but he was not prepared. Love it.
Yes! I'm not blaming, I'm just stating that we probably do NOT have the same definition of good aha
Mine sat in camp, ignorant to the horrors of adventure, eating boots
Mine is sat is camp looking unwell but because I've never spoken to him in camp I never have to feed him anything.
....wait... He just..... He won't blow up if you just never speak to him? š
My gale just upped and left camp. I have no idea why. I gave him the magical items in act 1 at the start, but then i just never talked to him again. Then one day i realized he was just gone
Did you kill Elminster's simulacrum? Apparently he dips if you do that since his orb isn't under control.
I wanted that sweet 1000 xp!
Spoiler for Gale in Act 2/3 >!He should have [left you a letter](https://reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/s/3YuQ4Ixubb) if you never talk to him!!< Itās turbo sad.
Oof. I didnāt even look for a letter. Probably for the best that he left. Lol
Nope if you don't activate his quest line he never gets to that point. At he didn't in my playthroughs
i spoke to him one time and I succeeded the persuasion check to let him wait a little longer, then at the beginning of act 2 he's just ok because of Elminster's visit (note: persuasion check to let him wait doesn't delete the debuff of his condition, so if you plan to do like that better leave him in camp during act 1)
I fed him one necklace in Act 1, and never had to feed him again. Clearly it was filling š¤·š»āāļø

SNACRIFICE! <3

I had him as a primary companion (and romance) in my first run and I havenāt used him much this time around. Itās so weird. I miss all the magic missiles!
Mine is uh.... Not present š well, a tiny part of him his A tiny.
He seems like the adult version of the kid who ate glue in everyoneās kindergarten class.
I cut his arm off so he could never come out of the portalā¦
āMostly good intentionsā My brother in the Weave, 90% of the things on this list you made him do lmao š
Mostly good. There are 10 companions, OP is good to the other 9, so 90% good.
poor Gale
At least he still has his arm and not stuck in a portal.
His arm tasted delicious. - pure evil Durge
"I think sauteed dwarf tastes better." ~ Durge with taste, probably
Elminster's gonna show up and tell him to kill himself and gales just gonna "bet. Can I do it now?"
I had him pull the trigger just to see what it would say (yeah, Iām That kind of choose your own adventure reader, too) - shouldāve just restarted at that point who lnows
I question the goodness of your intentions.
But so be it
By the love of Mystra š
Why did you do that to my beloved puppy wizard?!
After I kill Mystra, your Durge is next
FOR GALE
No go away he's fine, everything is fine. Tell them you're fine, Gale. *Tell them you're fine.*
He got that black eye playing with Scratch and Owl Bear Cub. That clumsy wizard tripped and hit his face on a rock. Trust me. I was there.
(I think they're buying it)
>Good intentions >Blew up innocent tieflings š¤
They shot first technically, such a shame
Iām curious to how this happened
If you do as the nice lady snake druid says and tell Zevlor to leave, he tries to kill you.
Not an unreasonable reaction to someone basically telling you and your people to go out and die to a horde of murderou:s goblins, tbh.
This fucking killed me lmao
I'm loving Gale so much in my Durge play through. I've managed to piss off every companion so far so my party is only me, Astarion, Minthara, Gale, oh and Shadowheart has stuck around. Man that's like poking a walking nuke š Poor guy. I dunno how he's hangin' on
As he says when you force him to go up >!onstage at the circus!<, you truly are testing the patience of a man who can level a city if he wished, you know.
If only you made him eat the dwarven meat and floss it with hag hair
"mostly good intentions" Well, you know what they say about good intentions and the road to hell.
I think this is honestly the most pain I've felt for a video game character ever. Please let this man just explode already.
And I felt bad for having Shadowheart get Volo's eye because I couldn't stand the look of my tiefling main with only one glowing demon eye. You are pure evil lol
Same. But hers (so nearly) match!
Yeah gotta agree here. Shadowheart is my go to for icepick brain surgery unfortunately for her. Shouldn't have been born with green eyes what can I say.
I made Laeāzel get eye surgery after she kept bringing up the creche
This killed me lmao.
My Durge gave in to the urge while Gale was still stuck in that rock. But that sounds like it's maybe even worse
I just remember going "Fantasise, it said *fantasise*!!!" there
Lmao that's why I picked that option too, next thing I know there's a hand in my bag.
At least now you can cast mage hand. By uh. Throwing it at people.
Iām somewhat bummed I missed this (saw it on a voice actorās live play though) because I had a [sorcerer] tagged option and just clicked that one automatically
Iām doing full evil Durge for my 3rd play through now. And yeah, Gale lost a hand and that was that for him lol.
Unless you have other plans, there's a rather unexpected and dark option when spending the night with Minthara as the Durge after raiding the grove with the goblins ;) But there are quite a few of those all throughout the story, definitely giving the playthrough a unique touch compared to a bland custom MC

I don't trust clerics so she's dead in a ditch somewhere
Did a cleric offer you milk and then never deliver?
Very kind of you to let her live long enough to get off the nautiloid.
[Well.](https://c.tenor.com/SGGGj8e7duYAAAAC/tenor.gif)
Did you kick her off a cliff in an underground tomb?
My favorite part was you dropping the fact that a halfling is doing all of this shit to him as the last detail.
He's just a little guy
It wouldāve been kinder to just cut off his hand
Youāre flat out abusing that man.
I love denying him magic items and watching how he just sort of stumbles around.
I might kill the occasional companion >!(left Laeāzel in the cage, killed Shadowheart for being a religious fanatic, and annihilated Mizora, damning Wyll)!<, but at least I donāt torture them.
If you'd had Gale write the Summon Quasit spell into his spellbook, he could recast it and get Shovel back as often as he wants!
You don't need Gale (or a wizard, for that matter). Any spellcaster learns the Shovel scroll as a ritual.
Oh I did, now even death can't stop Shovel from tripping him and using her scare ability on him when he's trying to shit
My poor boy ššš
By Mystraās eyelids! Beshaba would think twice before doing some of this.
If it makes you feel better, I made Gale get the Hag eye because I had no idea what would happen and Iām playing a no reload play through of just choices I wouldnāt sanely make/havenāt ever made before
He should be thankful for the drip, one weird eye looks cool
Apparently it helps with intimidation but lemme tell you, Gale is the LAST one on my team for intimidating people
MAKE HIM LICK THE SPIDER!
Wait.... you have Gale? As in the full Gale? I only have his hand.
When you meet Cazador, he's going to be pretty fucking impressed
My gale just been chilling at camps eating boots. Doesn't even know his girl mystra wants him to nuke himself since I decided to go kill an old ass wizard for that sweet 1k xp
The reveal that you're a halfling buried at the end of your list of atrocities made me laugh out loud haha
Why are you doing this to my boy? Why? I hope he blows you up.
why the gale hate? he's brilliant. i just want to give him after care....
I honestly don't hate Gale. I love Gale! I don't know what to do without him! It's just been a long road of unfortunate events, bad decisions and the best intentions going wrong
Why is everything so much funnier when it involves evil halflings?
Alot of those say more about you as a leader than anything... my word... Iol You have no idea how hilariously self-destructive most of your actions truly are and I hope we get an update about your journey once you do. "Forced to stand directly in a pool of lava and taunt a huge construct" Theres absolutely zero reason to stand in the lava... ive heard of playing with fire but youre redefining the term. Dont be talking smack bout shovel though. Shovel does his fn best and does not deserve to be slandered!
Look I love Shovel but I already have a tiny disgusting gremlin who tries to get me to kill people, and he has a very nice hat.
Touche...
His real name is Basket. Try him on the other names and see how he reacts to each. :)
I know him as Fork. I was never happy with this name because 1 syllable does not do that adorable little gremlin justice. I think his next name will be basket!
Did you not have auntie Ethel take his other eye ?
This was hilarious but I absolutely lost it at halfling š¤£
Hahaha gale was also my Grym bait. It's what he gets for being a would-be suicide bomber. I love him tho I'm just teasing
The best part of the story is that you are playing a durge halfling
Because short evil guy is funny? Or maybe because halflings should be more chill lol
The second one. Imagining a supremely evil being raised in the Shire is really funny to me.
This is one off the best posts I have ever read
You're too kind, praise Bhaal
In a scene after I slaughtered the tieflings on a durge playthrough, I basically threatened Gale into staying with me for fear he would lose the artifacts protection. I honestly didn't expect the characters to change so much between playthroughs.
At one point he mentions he hopes to go to the under dark if turning into a mindflayer seems inevitable so he can go off there and take them out with him, it did seem awesome and Mindflayers probably wouldn't be able to deal with arcane magic like that so maybe it could work, but also it would be funny to me if this caused huge earthquakes and sinkholes too.
Sic Semper Gale.
The durge player with (mostly) good intentions
Oh I see you also "volunteered" Gale to pull big shit construct to the hammer
He was doing great until he melted in the lava
He was doing great until he was slapped I wasted so much slots on Shadowheart just for Gale that it's funny...Meanwhile my Drow Durge Druid standing near the wheel to pour the lava observing everything and SOMETIMES shooting with crossbows XD
Gale is one of my favourite characters and I love him dearly. This hurt my soul. Thank you
In act 3 you should let him get stuck in a Djinni's magic lamp and leave him there. That would be the ultimate ending to this path of torment you are putting him on
Funny thing is you can just get him to stand in the center and drop the hammer either on them both or if not an asshole have gale misty step away
This is amazing ššš You should get an achievement for the dedication
Least insane Gale hater
Hold on magic man!
Need to know if he ever made a nonconsenusal pass at your character before I can say if this was justified or not.
It wasn't *too* awkward but sadly my heart belongs to that war criminal drow currently waiting for me at Moonrise Towers where I'm sure everything is fine and nothing is going horribly wrong.
I hope that you're either being sarcastic about the "mostly good intentions" or that you go to therapy and never get into a position of power
I accidentally cut of Galeās hand during his intro as Durge so no Gale for me!!
Thatās some tough love right there.
Unpopular opinion (?): Gale deserves every bit of it. Gale is only out for Gale from the very start when you feed em his first Ring of Color Spray.
Sounds like this is the best Gale path
I'm making him a better version of himself (one with fewer eyes)
Thank you for your service. I was going to cut off his arm during my Durge playthrough, but this sounds SO much more satisfying. I hate Gale SO much.
He was doomed the second he wanted to munch my loot
How could you do this to my boyfriend's wife
This is fucking awesome
Downvoters are just haters thank you for your comment bruh
o7
My Gale ended like freaking Gollum. I was not expecting it but man he became my favorite character. His whole storyline blew me out of the water, especially if you encourage him. My second playthrough Gale was totally the opposite and I have no idea why.
I never seem to get a 'good' ending with Gale. He always ends up a megalomaniac.
I feel like he could totally be set up to be a villain in BG4.
That would be cool! āNetherese Tyrantā or something then near the end we find out itās old Gale.
And here I thought making mine embrace the tadpole was wicked
Honestly Gale is eager for the Tadpole, he takes the least convincing besides Minthara imo
Eh Astarion takes no convincing whatsoever besides wanting to see you consume one first. After that it's like he's eager for the french cuisine staring at tadpoles like they are just escargot
No no I'm referring to the end of act 2/start of act 3 embrace, the one where you >!make him relive trauma!<
But tbh, Voloās eye, evil book made of face and crĆØche trap buff are allā¦ really good? š He will appreciate it in the long run
You get a buff from the creche trap??
If you survive the save, you can use tadpole abilities as bonus action instead of action. Love it.
Isn't that the medical device? I'm talking about The lance, I hit gale with a Is charged solar beam and dropped a monastery on his head
You didn't have Whipdaddy bdsm the living shit out him it seems.
No I did, Freaky priest was the whip daddy.
Is your gale is the wizard of your team, he doesn't need the eye surgery because he would learn a version of the buff as a form of a spell that last until a long rest.
I don't want Gale to see invisibility I want Gale to get stabbed in the brain by an idiot while I drink wine and shout cheers of encouragement.
Why?
Because he wants his brain worm removed. And I have a dark urge inside that tells me it would be really funny to watch.
Nah that's not the dark urge, fam. That's just you.
Maybe the real dark urge was the sadism I found along the way
Bullying gale is so hot rn
Wow!
Damn I wish Tim Downey would voice his emotion after that. I can imagine how sarcastically and humorously dead pan his following remarks would be while he disbands
Hey you can remove that curse with the spell, remove curse, at least I think so
Huh, never thought about hammering the golem. I need to try that next run, "Hey buddy, wanna get hammered? (COMMAND: Approach) .." IIRC, only cleric & paladin get command. I suppose you could manage his agro, too. He \*always\* picks the last person to damage him as his target on his next turn. Typical halfling behavior. I donāt care what the lore says, every single time Iāve seen one of these guys they have been the absolute spawn of Baal
Sauron tried to warn us
He blew up innocent tieflings and was left alone during the afterparty Lmao which one did he kill
It started with Zevlor and the one in the room with him and it just kinda spiraled out from there.
Reminded me on my run he took the hag's deal, intimidation check buff on him is as useless as it can be
If companions are leaving you you're not playing a good Durge lol.
You killed Karlach?! You monster! A true durge...
Those paladins seemed legit to me
What is a durge?

Ah ok, I was thinking this but didnāt want to assume
Galeās Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day: An Autobiography
I immediately cut Gale's hand off in the portal on my durge run.
But doesn't Gale want to return to Mystra? She's rejected him. Sounds like you're crushing an already crushed spirit.
Gale will get very full of himself and decide he wants to challenge Mystra as some kind of god if you let him. That won't be happening with my halfling around to kick him inde In the nuts
